Pros - Server was very attentive and appetizers/drinks came out promptly. Cons - Rice to Fish ratio was terrible, never had AYCE put so much rice and so little fish on a nigiri. Qualify of the fish was questionable and looked just shy of being tossed out. The menu was also very small for an AYCE and the rolls were not clearly marked so we ordered two rolls but they were deep fried, without any clarification on the menu. Overall - I tried to try a new restaurant but ended up regretting it. $31.99 for AYCE but I've had buffet sushi that's way better. Sushi Uokura is the only AYCE (all you can eat) sushi place in that general area (Golden/West Lakewood) and it is very unfortunate that they seemed to have gone downhill quite a bit. Sushi Uokura used to have the best fish to rice ratio amongst all the AYCE places in the Denver metropolitan area which is no longer the case. The menu has always been the smallest as well which wasn't too much of an issue until recently where it has shrunk even more (I believe they only offer 7-8 nigiri) and no unagi (fresh water eel). Another unfortunate change is that the service used to be really good but lately it's been bad with long wait times to be seated and to put in our orders, infrequent check-ins, and incorrect food coming out at times. It seems like it is more of a management issue than the servers themselves. I used to really like this small, family-feeling AYCE spot and I hope they return to their previous, better form. read more

Sushi is one of those places I didn't care for growing up, but I would always accompany my mom, and because of this restaurant, i slowly acquired a taste for sushi and now love this cuisine! We always tend to order the same 3 items when we visit: the green mussels for appetizer and the Las Vegas Roll and Eel Roll. (In the past, I used to also order the Teriyaki Chicken lunch special, which I'd highly roccomend for those non sushi enthusiasts). The green mussels are so tasty. Each order comes in 5 shells with 2 mussels in each, drizzled in a couple of tasty sauces. I'd highly recommend this as an appetizer as the flavors are unique and the value of this item is great as well. The Eel Roll is very tasty. It's a more traditional sushi roll where the eel, cucumber, and usually the avocado are wrapped on all sides by rice (I order the avocado on the side as I'm allergic). It's a lighter but tasty and healthier sushi option. The Las Vegas Roll is a cream cheese roll with crab and lightly fried. It is beyond tasty! (If you do order these two rolls, I'd recommend eating the Eel Roll before the Las Vegas Roll as it is a slightly lighter flavor). Another roll we've ordered in the past, which is also tasty, is the Dragon Roll. Overall, the service is always nice, and you can tell they appreciate every single customer and treat you with nothing but smiles. There is also plenty of seating, even during a lunch rush, so there's really no reason not to give this place a try! read more

I had a fantastic birthday lunch here with a 4 year old on her birthday with her mom, her brother and Jamie. The occasion was extraordinary with the 4 year old and her 2 year old brother loving and devouring the sushi, from 2 veggie rolls to salmon sushi and miso soup too! The food is good. Not the best in town but still good. Service on for a late lunch on a Friday was slow and a bit disorganized. The ambiance is a bit eclectic and indicative of a conversion to a restaurant from a prior use - apparently a home. Employees at the sushi bar encourage you to order anything from the menu you don't see listed but don't tell you that they'll charge you for an entire extra roll because it's not included in the 'all you can eat menu'. I asked my server about the miscommunication and although he apologized and told me it was his fault for not communicating this he still charged me anyways and wouldn't do anything else about it. Sushi Uokura is our family's go-to when craving sushi. They have such a great selection of fresh fish. We started with green tea which was served extra hot and appreciated on a cold day in Colorado. Our server was on top of refills for both water and tea. Since it was my mom's birthday she picked our sushi selection. Everything we had was SOOOO delicious. We had one order of sashimi, several selections of the nigiri and a couple of rolls. This was enough for 3 of us to share and still have a few pieces to take home. I've been visiting sushi Uokura for years. It's a really good sushi staple in the Denver west area. My favorite roll as of late is the Tokyo roll. If you can handle a bit of spice it is great! They also do all you can eat sushi for $32 per person and it's a great deal considering the amount of sushi you can order, if you can handle it. Seriously a hidden gem! The sushi is great! They have great service! We had the seaweed salad, miso soup, carpaccio (red snapper), spicy salmon tempura roll, Tokyo tower and mangra roll. My only hangup was how the carpaccio was served. I guess I thought it came on a plate over sauce but it came on lettuce kind of like a salad...? I only ate the fish and avocado. I started coming to Uokura about 20 years ago. Haven't been in a very long time but I wanted to try out the AYCE lunch. $24 and the fish is better than other AYCE places. Problem is the selection for lunch. It's so limited. Barely any appetizers like the basics (tempura, teriyaki etc.). The sushi selection is very limited as well, no unagi, no hamachi... They were able to get us a reservation for 4 the same day which was great because it was packed when we arrived. I didn't know they had an AYCE option and after we perused the menu, we went for it! The options aren't huge but include enough to make it worth it. All the nigiri was delish, crazy roll was great, and I liked the apps. A lot of the rolls did have cream cheese which was unfortunate as someone if our group couldn't eat those ones. Honestly, I rate sushi places by what you "SHOULD" expect, i.e., suburban sushi has different standards (for me) than a high-end downtown place. But even with that, this place was a disappointment. We went for the all-you-can-eat lunch. The choices are mediocre, but what really was disappointing was the quality of the fish, the rice, and the inattentive service (though she was very nice/sweet). Wow, If I lived in Colorado, I would be here once a month. The all you can eat sushi menu is super fire. We loved how you could order more miso soup. We did the all you can eat sushi and it was all good. The website says $28 pp but its actually $31. I do feel the menu is a tad limited and you cant customize anything, which isnt a huge deal. I love that the price includes the appetizers. We both loved the vegas roll the best. Husband said the spicy tuna was too spicy for him. No sweet tea which is always a bummer for me lol. They do tell you that anything leftover/uneaten youre charged full price for, which doesnt make sense to me. But thank God We ate it all lol. My family and I have been coming here for many many years. The food is great and we've never had an issue with service...until tonight. This review is based only on the horrible server we had. Our server, a tall skinny guy with a man bun, was HORRIBLE. He was not welcoming, didn't want to deal with us at all. Didn't speak much just stood there waiting for us to telepath our order to him. After filling our waters he also stopped to take our order for appetizers. Needing his hands free, he set the water jug on the floor. When we asked him to pick it up because the floor is DIRTY (hmm what a concept) he gave us the funniest look. We asked for more green tea. His response "I'll get it to you EVENTUALLY." Eventually never came. When we needed to pause to look at the menu again, he let out a loud audible SIGHHHH. There was a miscommunication on one of our items ordered. He stated it was not served during dinner and to choose another option. Come to find out when he brought the food out, it was for another dish we ordered and not the one he said when asking to choose another item. This is when he got really snippy. "What YOU communicated to me then was....so what are you COMMUNICATING to me now??" All because he stated the wrong meal initially. Seeing that he wasn't listening nor trying to understand what went wrong or what he thought he COMMUNICATED, we just accepted the meal. Wish we would have just stopped and spoke to the manager then but here we go with this review solely based on his horrible attitude and service. Saw a recent review and seems like it's the same waiter plaguing this great place. Hope they kick him to the curb quickly. He clearly doesn't want to be doing what he's being paid to do and it definitely had an impact on his tip so why he bothers clocking in, no one will ever know. read more

The only redeeming quality of this restaurant is the sushi itself. Otherwise, we had a terrible experience. We came in on a Sunday night at 7:30. They're incredibly understaffed, with only 2 waitresses for the whole restaurant. They literally looked like they were running around with their heads chopped off because they were so busy. The hostess also had 5 jobs so she wasn't there to guide the groups of people that arrived. Needless to say, the wait was outrageous while there were open tables. After we were seated, we waited another 20 min for someone to greet us. When we did get our food, she said the kitchen was closing so if we wanted more food we'd have to order now. We had no idea if it was enough food cause we had not taken a single bite. Why would we do all you can eat when you really got one order? The sushi was really good! I was totally a fan of the food and I probably ate waaaay more than I should have. They have Kirin which is one of my favorite beers too so yummmm. I've never seen the word "smelt" for Masago haha so we had to google it. My first time after hearing so many raves, and it did not disappoint, I got take out and a big order, loved it all. Two comments - one good, the way they put saran wrap over the styrofoam soup containers so the lid stays on no matter what - brilliant! So often things go sideways while driving and you end up with a bag full of liquid, ingenious! The other not good, that back parking lot is a rutted muddy mess. At least get some gravel and fill those huge potholes that right now are full of water and mud. Parking is a bit tight around there with Honda right next door. We'll be back. read more
