This was the best sushi restaurant in Delta, ate here a few times a month. Always busy and lots of people getting to go orders. Walked in a few weeks ago and the place was hardly busy, new ownership. Food was okay, husband had bones in his salmon sashimi. I gave it another chance yesterday when I got an order to go. Restaurant at 5:00 on a Sunday did not one person eating in the restaurant. Bad sign! The food is now like a food court sushi place, bland overcooked rice, my rainbow roll, which use to have a wasabi mayo on it, now had a brown, sweet sauce on it. I will not go back, probably what happened to all the other regulars also. read more

Used to like going to this sushi place a few years back until they changed ownership 3 years ago or so. After that I stopped going because the food was not the same. A couple of weeks ago I thought I would give it another try thinking maybe they have improved. Nope. I was wrong. Food is ok and service is not the greatest. Went to pick up my take out and 3 of the workers were so clueless. One started to pack my food. After I was packed I went to my pay, she gave me the credit card machine and walked away. I had to print my own customer receipt. Meanwhile another worker was standing there just looking at the computer screen. I asked her for a stamp card. She didn't even acknowledge me or turn her head. She grabbed the card and directed it to my direction. I grabbed it and said thank you. Again no response. As I was about to leave I notice there was not enough soy sauce. Again another challenge to get someone's attention to do this small task. Also, the sashimi was not very good. It was still semi frozen when I ate it. Will not be returning. Advice to owner. Tonight's experience at Sushi Wara will keep me from returning. Myself and my family have enjoyed this sushi bar on a couple of occasions. It is relatively new, but was a nice change to our regular sushi joint. It was very busy when we arrived. Mostly people waiting for take out orders. We waited about 15 minutes before we got a table. We sat with our menus and waited...and waited. Other people arrived, were seated and served drinks and had orders taken. We waited. We finally caught the attention of a waitress who promptly "shushed" us as she turned to the table next to us. That was the straw that broke the camels back. 20 minutes of waiting and being treated in that disrespectful way and we were out the door to our "old faithful" sushi joint. My favourite sushi place - I was hooked on my first visit! I suggest trying the specialty rolls such as the popcorn roll or French kiss roll, it'll change your view of sushi forever! I always return for the atmosphere and wonderful service. Chefs greet you as you enter and leave too! read more

I'm pretty picky when it come to sushi, and I have to say this place is one of the best in the Surrey / North Delta area. This is our regular go to place. The food is always very fresh and tasty. The presentation is top notch. Try their spicy rolls and their BC rolls. Their traditional sushi is great too. The staff is very friendly. My only minor complaint is that when it gets super busy the staff struggles to keep up with the rush. Other than that though, it's fantastic. read more

I'm very picky about sushi but here you can never go wrong! There salads and bento boxes are really good!

We have been doing take out from here for 3 years and always felt we got good food and value- until last night. Our usual dinner bento boxes, one chicken one salmon went up 2.00 from 14.50 to 16.50 from our last order in October. That probably would have been ok BUT they were also half the size!!! The roll that comes with the box used to be packed in a separate container....now, because they have halved the portion of the teriyaki there is room for it to sit beside the main dish. I'm not sure why they decided to up the price and reduce the portion size at the same time but it's enough for us to move on. It's too bad. The service was always good and the food is delicious. We're just not prepared to pay so much for so little...... read more

it is always challenging to pick a lunch place in a unfamiliar area. Lunch box was good, and the tempuras were great. Miso soup was good. Unfortunately sushi wasn't good. I mean the ingredients were good, but the rice wasn't fully cooked The waitress asked me how the food was. I hesitated to say about the partially uncooked rice because I don't want to make them feel bad. Just not going to this place again is the easiest solution to me. But the waitress asked me again. So I shared my experience. " partially uncooked rice" The kitchen staff said rice is no problem and they made me the new roll. Ok. But the new roll's rice is the same. Uncooked rice was mixed. I spit out a piece of uncooked rice and showed them. They said ' we used the same steam rice to every customer, but no one complained. We will give you a 10% discount ' What? I couldn't finished my lunch. And all the people who ate with me were so unpleasant. I don't know why the waitress asked me about their food. They don't really accept their mistakes even though i showed the piece of uncooked rice. I felt bad and sorry to the staff that I leave only 2 stars here. I wanted to help their business but it didn't work out. Rice is the main ingredient in rolls! Maybe it was only that day which had a bit of cooking problem, But that is not a proper way to solve the customer's complaints. If customers complained, give them 10% discount and make them go away. We are from out of town and were looking for a sushi place on a whim. Wow! This place is great! Tucked beside Brown's Social House, it has a great and inviting atmosphere. Quiet, and comfy. Service was excellent and super fast. Best of all, the sushi was top notch, and very good!! They even threw in a free sample of maki rolls that they were soon going to add to their menu, which was delicious. Prices were great for the generous portion sizes. This place is new so need to keep trying it out!! We had takeout sushi platter incl California Rolls which had real crab, rice tasted fresh too. My son, however, had some comments about his hot dish (can't remember what it was). I think when its new, you need to give it a few chances as they iron out their kinks. Read about this place online and decided to try it. While it may be a little pricier than other sushi joints, the food here is that much better. Really great, fresh sushi and dishes. The only downside for us was the service was pretty terrible. Staff is slow, unwilling to acknowledge customers and generally unaware. If the staff could get up to snuff, this place would be amazing. For now, I'd recommend takeout. read more
