I'm a huge fan of all-you-can-eat sushi, but dropping $19-$25 per visit makes it a big treat for this semi-unemployed recent college grad. I was thrilled to hear that the AYCE at Sushi Ya was just $14. The $14 lunch special comes with your choice of miso OR salad (I tried to order both--oops). The miso was fine, as expected. I was there with 4 friends and we started off ordering 5 or 6 rolls for us all to share. The rolls were delicious, and though AYCE only allows you to order off menus A and B, there is still a nice variety of rolls, and several rolls that are NOT the standard deep-fried-with-cream-cheese that so many places rely on to fill customers up. The food didn't blow my mind, but it was a nice meal that tasted good and was affordable. Their salmon nigiri is particularly nice, with a great texture considering we're in Idaho. My favorite roll was the Godzilla roll. The staff was friendly and helpful. In fact, they almost seemed too eager considering how empty the place was (Monday noontime). I appreciate the enthusiasm, though. I figure that eating mostly AYCE sushi removes me from the sushi connoisseur crowd, but I don't care. I love sushi and Sushi Ya gave me my weekly fix. I've eaten here a few times since moving to Boise from Nevada a little over a year ago. Coming from a city where just about every sushi place was all-you-can-eat, it was a bit of a shock to have a difficult time finding AYCE in Boise. We tried a few other places besides Sushi Ya, but when the owner/manager or whoever he was recognized us when we came back only the second time after a year of living here, that got them bonus points. The price is also right. We've never had a problem with the service here. All our servers were pretty prompt and friendly. The rolls were good, but I really like to fill up on nigiri, especially salmon. Sushi Ya is perfect for nigiri lovers. I'd love the option of having a thin slice of lemon on my salmon nigiri, though. And if they'd add surf clam and quail egg shooters to their menu, they'd have a fan for life. Sushi Ya owners, if you read this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add quail egg shooters to your menu! This place is pretty decent for an all-you-can-eat sushi place. The selection is not very wide, but what they do have is usually pretty solid. If you come when it's very busy, you are liable to have about 30 minutes after placing your order before your food arrives. I guess that's not too bad for a rush at any restaurant, but it's a slightly longer wait time than you'll find elsewhere. The fish quality is good. I always start with some nigiri to see what's best that day and make subsequent orders accordingly. Of their nigiri, the salmon and escolar are always great. Even though they're served on a bit too much rice, they are reliable winners. Occasionally the yellowtail will have a faint ammonia flavor, so order that at your own risk (but it's been great the last two times I went). The best bet is to place one order for each type of fish you're interested in that night, and see what tastes best, and go from there. The cut rolls here are also pretty good. The 49ers roll is always a winner. I always see the same staff when I eat here, and they never disappoint. They're quick, efficient, and friendly. Is this the best sushi ever? No. Is it the best place to get a bunch of sushi when you're hungry and the only thing that will satisfy you is 25lb of sushi? Yes. read more

OMG!!! They have 7 employees on and only 2 were actually doing there jobs. It took them 22 mins to prepare my Togo order! It's not like it needs cooked. They were playing around a joking about. Stopping mid sushi roll to turn around an open some candy wrappers and eat the candy, still wearing the same gloves to continue to make you the order. Very unprofessional. Sushi No! We went here a while back and the sushi was terrible. It made everyone sick. We figured maybe something was off and went back with some friends. The staff was not friendly and it took FOREVER to get our order. We discovered they will limit your order even though it's all you can eat. I have been going to Sushi Ya off and on for about 6 years now. The last few times have been really disappointing and the last time I was there was the worst. They did not have wet floor signs and the floor was incredibly slick. I ended up falling. There was a bleach container just sitting in the bathroom easily in reach of any kids who went to use the restroom. The toilets looked like they had not been cleaned and we had gotten there at opening time. The staff never seem to have a smile on their face when we are there. We ordered the food, and they didn't come to check on us. I don't know that we will ever come back. read more

I am a sushi fanatic, but I am not a sushi snob. Sushi is an expensive "habit" and so I am more than willing to try "lesser" presentations in order to get my fix. Enter Sushi Ya. Now let's be honest, anything labeled as "all you can eat" is not going to be of the highest quality. You know that going in. That said, Sushi Ya easily meets all my expectations in terms of a low cost sushi restaurant. So why does it only get three stars in my book? Well... despite being precisely the kind of restaurant I would expect it to be, it does fall down in a couple of key respects. The first is the atmosphere of the restaurant itself. There is not a lot of care shown in the interior. I don't have a problem with "cheap" decor, but I do have a problem with poorly maintained "cheap" decor. Poor attention to the front of the house always makes me wonder what is going on the back of the house. In other words, if they can't keep the dining room looking good, what is going on in the kitchen? Now this is somewhat mitigated at a sushi bar as typically the sushi chefs work in a fairly visible environment... but a little more effort to keeping the dining room looking its best would go a long way. The other major issue I have with Sushi Ya is that they do not season their sushi rice AT ALL. It is completely bland and devoid of ANY flavor of its own. It adds nothing to the rolls and just sits in your stomach like a lump of lead............. which considering this is an "all you can eat" establishment is probably their precise intent. They want to make the rice less palatable so you will order (and therefore eat) less. Properly seasoned rice is a vital component of any sushi dish no matter how much you are paying for it, and to overlook such a simple thing is almost inexcuseable. But again, penny pinching is the order of the day.... not that salt and vinegar are that expensive. That all having been said, I have found the "best" way to get your money's worth at Sushi Ya. First... order nigiri. They are one of the few places I've found to offer nigiri as part of an "all you can eat" and nigiri is simple to dress up on your own with a dab of wasabi and soy sauce. I could eat my weight in salmon nigiri alone. The second trick is to order rolls that are either fried or come with some sort of sauce (or both.) I know this might offend a lot of sushi purists, but remember where you are. A little sauce goes a long way to making the unseasoned rice edible. Follow those two "rules" and you will easily get your money's worth here. So overall Sushi Ya is exactly what you expect it to be... a large amount of lower quality sushi for a decent price. If a higher quality sushi bar isn't in the budget, this place will fit the bill and you will generally leave feeling satisfied. read more

I really wanted to like this place because it's such a great location and we had it a couple years ago but I think there is new owners. I ordered takeout for myself, but the person I ordered with gave no sort of greeting, didn't ask my name, or any other information other than if I was done ordering. The sashimi was fine, but out of the 3 rolls I got only one was really worth eating. The fried ones tasted like batter you would get at a county fair and they were falling apart. They were chewy and didn't have much flavor. The fresh roll was okay but overall I would've rather had paid more money for better sushi and I won't be coming back. read more

The servers were really nice and the service was fast for all you can eat but my husband and I were both sick later that evening after eating lunch at sushi ya. The sushi was warm when it came to the table and it definitely did not taste fresh. I honestly will not go back. Not worth getting sick again over trying to save a couple of bucks. read more

If I could give a zero star review, I would. This used to be my favorite Sushi restaurant, but I will say that the last several times I have been there- it was absolutely terrible. The waitresses are always grumpy and make you feel as though you are an inconvenience. During my most recent visit ( and undoubtedly the last) the service was awful- we waited for long periods of time without being checked in on for drink refills, or to make sure our food was ok. Our order was wrong, and when we asked the waitress about it, there was no offer to help, or correct it. We would have mentioned it to her sooner had we been able to get her to come to our table before everyone at the table was completely finished. Boo. So disappointing. read more

We come here about once a month for all you can eat sushi. We've always had great sushi and good service. The great thing is kids are really cheap for the all you can eat sushi. The sushi has always been fresh and this is the only place I've seen escolar served. I can't recommend this place enough! read more

Even though it is a veritable hole in the wall, Sushi Ya is yummy! Spicy tuna is amazing!

They have a good priced happy hour and the saki is dirt cheap for unfiltered (10$ large bottle) There is plenty of seating which is rare for a sushi joint. The fish is decent quality most of the time. Is it the best? No.. Just being honest. But it's still good. The best thing about this place is the low cost. I go to other sushi spots all the time, just order $100 in sashimi and have a good dinner. Here is about the all you can eat for $14 at Iunch. You don't get anything special presentation wise, but the quality is still there. I come here for lunch a few times a week and I love it. I'd really recommend going by and trying it out. read more

Most of the food was absolutely delicious. The only complaint I really have is the Idaho roll. The sauce on top was described as a white soy sauce. It was actually the complete opposite. It's similar to a California roll but with a white sweet creamy sauce on top. It wasn't like eel sauce though. I definitely wouldn't recommend that roll. The portions are great for the price. The shrimp fried rice is huge! My boyfriend did the ayce and it ended up being totally worth it. It's 20 dollars for one person and it comes with miso soup or salad. He ordered the dragon roll and the Las Vegas they were both phenomenal. They may not seem like a lot for ayce but the prices of those rolls separately were 10.50 each so in the end it added up. Sushi Ya is my most favorite sushi place ever! I am from Germany, my husband is American and grew up in Boise. Once a year we come to Idaho and can't wait to enjoy the Sushi at this restaurant. Their AYCE special is amazing value! Go for the 18.95$ one as this includes the specialty rolls. Those are so delicious!! Best ones are Playboy, Mountain, CK and Hurricane - big, special and so tasty!! Only thing to improve: the interior design/atmosphere - it is pretty basic. My friend Luciana surprised me today with a lunch invitation in honor of my upcoming birthday. When we discussed where to go (she'd mentioned Sakana and Shige...) I told her I had been hankering for sushi. She said "Girl, we are going to zoom up the road to Sushi Ya for ALL you care to eat on a lunch hour". So off we went. Tucked in a little strip mall on Overland (near Maple Grove) Sushi Ya is a bright spark of yumminess for those seeking fast friendly service and a nice full menu. Serving more than just Sushi too! We sat at the 'bar' where I could see all the lovely fresh sushi ingredients as I took a look at their menu. For my first plate, I went with the "Hula" roll.. spicy crab, with sauce and a sprinkling of chopped candied nuts on top (whether they were macadamias or almost I'm not sure). The sauce blends with a nicely tones down the spicy crab, and the crunchy nuts add lovely texture. I also tried three types of Nigiri (the single pieces of sushi that look like a rice 'raft' with a fish (or egg) on top. I had the tuna (OMG, fresh and velvety) the 'upside down Shrimp',( fun, tasty and sligthly sweet+. Lastly, a fall back to the first kind of 'sushi' I ever tried.. the 'omelette' sushi.. Tamagoyaki.. a simple strip of scrambled egg on sweet sushi rice with a 'tie' of Nori (dried seaweed) Between bits of luscious sushi, I enjoyed sips of a wonderful miso soup, and bites of a simple salad. Though I was almost full, I had to try one more roll. I went with one I'd read about here on Yelp- the Crystal Shrimp. Pretty much crispy fried shrimp incorporated in the roll. It was simple and tasty.. a perfect end to my first meal at Sushi Ya. I am happy that my first visit to Sushi Ya was for my birthday, I'll always remember the start of my 49th year and how tasty the day was. read more

Four and a half stars really. As stated in my review for other all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant, Sushi Ya is not for the sushi snob. The food is very-very good, but not outstanding. But that is a gimme, in the all-you-can-eat sushi game. The service is excellent. The atmosphere is comfortable and clean. But the real stand out here is the price point. A full $5.00 less per person for the unlimited sushi rolls and nigiri sushi. Plus you do not have to sit at the counter for outstanding service. As many here have stated, this is not the epitome of 'fine dining sushi', but it's more than acceptable (hey folks, we're in Idaho, NOT on the coast!). Having had sushi all over the great United States, this place is pretty darn good! Interestingly, some of the best sushi I've ever eaten was in Cincinnati, Ohio...and some of the worst in NYC and LA...go figure. Proved to be a good call...Menu was interesting, staff friendly and helpful and place clean and neat. Good start. We decided to order ala carte since the kids could probably not do well with the 'all you can eat' business...so we ordered 7 rolls in total (took 3+ home with us!) and the rest is history...very good, fairly priced (sushi is expensive...no bargains anywhere to be found) and a great experience. The service is always great, the same couple servers have been there for awhile and do a fantastic job. Came here for lunch last week and it was terrible. The sushi did not taste very fresh at all and was very bland. It made me sick later in the day. We also experienced awful customer service and our waitress acted like we were inconveniencing her any time we had to track her down. We could not get her to stand at our table longer than 3 seconds to ask more than one question before she scurried off to chit chat with the other staff members. We have gone for sushi all over the valley and we always come back to Sushi Ya for the price to quality ratio. It is definitely not the highest quality sushi we have had but you can't beat the AYCE dinner sushi for $18.95. We have come here alone and with groups, have sat at the bar and at the tables. The service has increased and improved over the last couple of years. There is a plethora of nigiri and rolls to choose from including a handful of tempura fried ones. The Miso soup has a nice smoky flavor that I love, I only wish they had cubed tofu in it that I also love. Some rolls definitely worth trying: Idaho, Alaska, Hula (slightly sweet), Caterpillar, Mama, Mountain, and for tempura fried try the Las Vegas and King Kong. It is a fun place to come with a group so you can order all sorts of rolls and find your favorites. Whenever we leave a sushi restaurant in the valley with a bill of $50-$100 we always agree it was not worth it, and that is why Sushi Ya is our go-to sushi place! read more

The service is horrible. We put in an all-you-can eat order, and when it hadn't shown up 30 minutes later we asked the wait staff if they could check on it. The waitress said there was a rush and brushed it off. Another 20 minutes later, she comes and says she dropped our paper with the order and it never got made. They were very unapologetic. It is so nice to have a place you can have all you can eat sushi for $14. You can spend $5 more and have all you can eat sushi with some of there more expensive rolls. I just love to have that option because I like Ngiri the best and that is included with the $14 price. Restaurant has nice tables and chairs and the staff are typically friendly and provide good service. I've been here a lot of times and once in a while they get busy and the service is ok. I read a review that said the service sucked. If it happens to you go back because they typically provide good service. As for the sushi it's good for the price. The Albacore and Seared Tuna Ngiri are my favorite. Being from a coastal town there is much better sushi out there and also in Boise such as Yoi Tomo and Sakura but you will be paying more for that sushi. Out of all the sushi places in town I go here the most because I am thankful for their discounted all you can eat price. Thank you Sushiya for being different in your pricing. If you want great service, don't go here! The employees seem less than enthused to be here. However, the sushi is good and the fish always tastes fresh and they have quite a variety of rolls. My favorites are the Rocky Mountain and Orange Julius rolls. All you can eat for lunch is $16.99 and only $2 more for dinner with a larger selection of rolls to choose from. Can't beat that! However, you have to eat all of what you order or they will call you on it and charge more. I was with a group once and we assured them we would finish it all so they would bring the bill, but we ended up paying and running because we just couldn't force it down! read more
