Five stars should mean something nowadays. Sushi Yan gets 5 stars because they not only have great quality tuna and delicious sushi, but also are extremely efficient. I call and make my order at any time, drive there, and in my very brief drive my sushi is either prepared or just about. Large orders also do not take long. I get the Spicy Roll Medley, with Tuna Sashimi, and the Chicken Fried Rice, occasionally, if I'm sharing the meal. The pork Gyoza they have, (fried preferably), have a nice crunch and with a little soy sauce are a tasty bite. Recommended for a great lunch or dinner. read more

I am a big believer in rooting for the underdog. So I tend to venture out to restaurants that are not aesthetically pleasing. This one definitely fits the mold, but I don't think that this place wins its overall. The inside is set up not to dine in but grab and go, with 2 small tables. But really, who cares? I just want to eat! The sushi was good, but pricey. I had a 5 piece mexican role that for $8. It felt like it was mixing something, perhaps another 2 pieces. In addition, I had the volcano roll. Not bad for its intended purpose. This is a small sushi take-out restaurant. If you need a quick place to grab sushi, its not bad. Sushi Yan is better than supermarket sushi, but not as good as a place you would go to on a weekend for dinner. Its located towards one end of a strip plaza. If you were not looking for it, you would miss it. Like another Yelper mentioned, when you walk in it looks just like a Chinese take-out. You see the order counter right away and then a few chairs and tables to sit. Nothing fancy as expected. I phoned in my order for lunch to pick up and was told it'd be ready in 15 minutes which was awesome. They are definitely quick. I was hungry and went back and forth in deciding if I wanted one or two rolls. Being it was my first time there, I had no idea how big their rolls would actually be. I ended up going with one bigger roll for about $9 and a smaller roll for $5 to be safe. I ordered the Green Dragon roll and a Spicy Tuna roll. The Green Dragon roll was pretty massive, I think I could have just stuck with that for lunch. The inside was shrimp tempura and cream cheese (way too much cream cheese), wrapped with avocado on the outside. I'm not a fan of cream cheese so picked most of it out. I think it still would have been fine if the roll was not so drenched in eel sauce and I mean from top to bottom.. all over the avocado and the rice underneath was drenched. The Spicy Tuna roll was okay. The tuna could have been more fresh, but probably still better than supermarket sushi. So, would I come back here? Maybe. I would not cross it off completely. It's Friday night. I'm hungry. I want sushi. I don't really want a sit down place -- I just want to order and take it home. I remember my friend telling me that Sushi Yan was his favorite of all the sushi places in the area, so off I go in search of the Holy Grail of Sushi (okay, I'm being a little dramatic here, but you get my drift!) I ordered shrimp tempura, a Volcano Roll and a Dragon Roll. All were HUGE rolls. They were so tasty, too! Next time I'll be sure to call my order in ahead of time, but I only waited about 15 minutes anyway. That's not too bad considering it was a Friday night. This is an awesome little place for sushi in Boca - though I would stick to the sushi. It's quick, it's clean, and it's much better than grocery store sushi. This is great for nights where you want sushi but don't really want to spend a ton of money or be at a sit-down place. Much better than a stop at the grocery store. I wouldn't suggest the gyoza - it was mediocre and just not worth it. Their sushi is where it is at. I got a green dragon roll which was amazing and filling. It was incredibly large - bigger than other ones I get at local restaurants - and very tasty. It's as-good-as or better than other local sit down places, and at a fraction of the cost. The spicy krab roll was fine - there was a ton of krab and it was good quality - but I didn't eat much of it that day because the green dragon roll was a meal on it's own. Pricing is great, the location is clean and small, and the staff is friendly. Parking at lunch is a CATASTROPHE though, so good luck! read more

Quick place to grab sushi! I grew up in Boca but never really ventured into this strip mall so I was pleasantly surprised. I got my sushi to go since the aestetics suck--very mental patient hospital feel with uncomfortable, cheap looking chairs and tables all the while listening to Maury to find out who the baby daddy is. Sushi was top notch, I got the green dragon roll however they really need to work on the packaging. I got home and they don't separate the wasabi out so being the green dragon roll, I really had no clue if the next bite I was going to take was avocado or wasabi. I just left Sushi Yan a few minutes ago. I've eaten at Japanese restaurants all over the world, including the high-end places in NY (where I'm from) like Hatsuhana, where you can (very) easily drop $100 per person. Having said that, it was clean, comfortable and I was perfectly happy sitting in one of their 8 seats watching the news while dining. I was pretty hungry. Ordered the steamed gyoza, two pieces of shrimp, four eel (unagi) and the "Red Ocean," which was six pieces of maguro tuna. Let me preface this by saying that of all categories of cuisine, Japanese restaurants, specifically sushi places, are among the easiest to review. The sushi is either fresh, sliced correctly and "right," or it isn't. Here we go...the gyoza was good, but not necessarily great. The sushi was very good. In fact if I was sitting in one of the aforementioned $100 places, I would not have been disappointed. Unagi (eel) was delish, the ebi (shrimp) was great and the tuna (maguro) was fresh, dewy and very, very good. Pieces were quite generous in size. What did I pay for a 6 piece order of steamed gyoza and 12 large pieces of sushi? A whopping $25.18! Anyone who knocks this place either has an agenda or doesn't know their fish. I do. I've been eating sushi for 36 years and would highly recommend Sushi Yan. Admittedly, I didn't sample everything on the menu, and this review is based on one visit, but I loved what I had and would go back again if I wasn't saying goodbye to Mom and going back to NY tomorrow. I was hungry and solo, craving good food but not tablecloths or bars, and i found Sushi Yan, a simple and inexpensive fresh sushi gem in Boca Raton. It's open late which is almost unheard of for anything other than a diner or bar food around here. It's tucked in a strip mall and has two little tables inside if you do want to dine-in. Looks super clean from behind the counter. It's a cut above market packaged sushi to go. The combinations on the menu are more simple than gourmet sushi bars, with mostly shrimp, tuna, salmon, eel and california rolls. I ordered a rainbow roll: california roll topped with tuna and salmon for $9.50. That plus the really fresh seaweed salad brought me in way below my eat out alone for under $20 guideline. Friendly staff was a bonus... The woman smiled at me even though she was busy answering the non-stop phone taking pick-up orders! I'd say call ahead since you can, but they were lightening fast preparing my order! I'd suggest more eco-friendly packaging plus i'd like to have a glimpse into the kitchen. read more

Perfect place for take-out sushi! I'm a regular here. Keep in mind this is not meant to be a dine-in restaurant. Take it to the beach or take it home. Eat in the restaurant if you want (it's clean and comfortable), but it's mostly a take-out joint. The prices are fantastic and the sushi is always fresh. I've gone to this place for a couple years, fairly regularly, and have NEVER had a problem with bad sushi. The staff is super friendly and they have a pretty big menu. I am moving away soon and this place is what I'll miss most. Huge, tasty rolls for very low affordable price. The interior is always spotless and customer service is so sweet. I have tried every roll on the menu and would recommend the mexican roll first and salmon tempura second. Their spicy tuna is also great. The selection is small and simple, but they do small and simple just right. This is a perfect option for a stay-at-home date, or a quick lunch/dinner. We usually split 3 rolls and an appetizer, and spend between $18-$20. Wow! I am not normally impressed with new restaurants, especially take-out places. I am glad though that this place does not have the usual Thai/Japanese combination found so often throughout the Boca Raton area. Not that Thai/Japanese places aren't good but places like those usually serve delicious Thai food but mediocre Japanese food. Anyway, Sushi Yan is just Japanese and rightly so, they serve up a mean tamago and miso soup. I was tempted by the flyer I received in the mail as well as the excitedly low "grand opening" prices of $1 for tamago (which I have never seen this low before) and $1.50 for miso soup (which again I have never seen this low). The presentation for the tamago and effort taken in constructing the nori "belt" were duly noted. I was impressed with the clean appearance inside as well as the great customer service the worker gave me. (He brought my order to me sooner than expected and to my car too, major plus!) I've been searching for a great tasting tamago that isn't overly and unnecessarily full of vinegar and has a more simplistic taste! I finally found it here! The gari (sushi ginger) was fresh and the little green "grass" added a sophisticated touch. The miso soup was a small portion but equal to the amount found in individual packets that you can buy in the store. The flavor of the miso soup was excellent as well. I would highly recommend this to sushi lovers especially at this price! I am so glad that it is only 5 minutes from my house! They also are open until 2am from Monday through Saturday which is great for late-night cravings or when pulling all-night ers. read more

I'm super confused by everyone's positive reviews for this place. The sushi does not taste fresh, and often times I can't tell my different rolls apart when I order from here. The middle of the rolls all appear to have a mixture of canned seafoods in the middle. They pack siracha sauce with their rolls and everything genuinely tastes the same. I have given this place more than a few opportunities to change my mind but still leaves me regretting it each time. Ordered crunchy salmon rolls, shrimp tempura, and dragon. Nothing great. Deserts as well. Decent drink selection but no beer yet. I'm sure it will come soon. The place is very small with about only four tables. You can take out, pick-up or eat in. They deliver as well. Went by there based on the reviews posted here on yelp. Now either the people posting don't have a clue what good sushi is or all the reviews are phony. First of all none of the pictures posted came from there all the sushi wether you eat there or take it out comes in styrofoam containers not on plates like presented in the pictures. Second yes it is cheap but remember with sushi you get what you pay for. Third it's strictly a takeout place it has only 2 tables, if you plan on taking a date here don't plan on her going out with you again unless your married to her. So if your looking for a quick cheap bite to go then this is your place otherwise find another place to go. Fresh market and publix have better sushi. read more

Cheapest sushi you'll ever find and it even tastes good, but don't eat it unless you're willing to risk your stomach being messed up for the rest of the night. I'm a college student and I still find myself going back because I can get like 20 rolls of sushi for $7 with my student discount. Yeah, great deal but very low quality sushi. They used to deliver to the dorms at FAU but I don't think they do anymore. I think they realized that it's not worth delivering $5 of bottom barrel raw fish. I went here based on the good reviews, and it was nowhere near the quality I was expecting. Currently, they don't serve anything other than tuna, salmon, shrimp, and fake crab.
