We had a good lunch here. They were not busy when we first came. We had very pleasant service. The sushi bar was fast, but the kitchen was a bit slow; however we were not in a hurry. The restaurant is small and cozy. It's located on the west side of US1/Federal Highway. Sitting inside, you would not know you were on a busy street. After looking at their lunch specials menu, we decided to choose one of these items. So we really didn't even look at their regular menu to see what else they have, We each decided to get one of their bento box lunches. They also offer poke bowls and some sushi roll combos. I got their salmon teriyaki box. In addition to the salmon in one of the compartments, there was a California roll, 2 gyoza pieces, house salad, and edamame. In the middle of the box was wasabi and ginger slices. It was a lot of food. Everything was good, but I think I'd get the gyoza steamed instead of fried next time. My husband's box had all the same selections as mine, but instead of the salmon, he got sashimi. There were 6 lovely pieces of fresh raw fish -- tuna, salmon, and a white fish. There isn't much to say about this place. Overpriced "Japanese" sushi grade ingredients served on a cheap plate. The place looked cheap, barely clean, and cramped. First time going in, I was cautious to order so I got hamachi jalapeño ($29.99), toro with caviar ($39.99 for 1pc), and uni ($19.99 1pc very small amount) at market price. It took over 30mins for these appetizers and nigiri's to be served. Servers were friendly but unprofessional, looked very lost. The sushi chef was Korean, but definitely not Korean sushi chef quality work. There are plenty of places you can go to for equal or better quality sushi for better prices. The toro had Clorox scent as if it had been placed on a cutting board that has been wiped with a sports towel that was soaked in Clorox. The Uni was fresh but the amount was disappointing. I am uploading pictures from different places for comparison. Anyway no need for me to say anything else. Won't be returning, ever. I could barely swallow the 2 pieces of nigiri and app that was drowning in salty ponzu sauce. I will leave this place for people who dont know how to enjoy some good sushi. When the sushi chef berates his employees in front of customers, you know you're in the wrong place. Sitting at the sushi bar is supposed to be a fun experience. The place is dingy. The fish is no more fresh than a hundred other sushi places in Boca. What stands out is the prices: $30 for 1 piece of Uni sushi with only 1 piece of Uni? Wow. $499 for Omakase. Wow, wow. We were seated outside while there were only a few tables occupied inside, but it took about 20 minutes before anyone even came out to acknowledge us. When someone finally did, we were told it would be another 30 minutes just for chicken teriyaki, which felt unreasonable considering how slow things already were and that the place didn't seem busy. Unfortunately this is our third time here and each time the service gets slower and the prices get higher. My son says the quality of the fish is good. But it takes an hour to get a roll and the prices are astronomical. I tried to explain to my son about value for your money -- if you are paying high prices you expect some semblance of efficient service and nice ambiance. The service and the food here are great. The atmosphere is your typical casual sushi place. I am giving this 5 stars however we spent about $200 total with tip and tax for two people and got a premium chirashi dish. The fish here is excellent and super fresh, however I don't feel that their prices are justified because for this price you do expect to get that "melt in your mouth" type of fish which was missing here. Still super high quality and super fresh fish! I would probably give this 4.5 stars out of 5 if I could. A bit overpriced... Additionally, it's not an interactive, friendly place, very quiet (you can hear everyone's conversations), definitely not the kind of place you'd go for a "fun" sushi experience. Lastly, a couple sitting near me at the sushi bar asked the chef what he was making (he was chopping pretty loudly, we were curious what he was making?), the guy was trying to make conversation, the chef (Joe) said "it's not for you" I thought he would laugh and be joking, but he wasn't joking. The customer said "I know it's not for me, I was just curious" trying to lighten the mood, the chef wouldn't answer, didn't crack a smile, it was pretty weird how unfriendly (rude) he was. Maybe he didn't like the guy, but come on. When they were leaving, he asked the chef his name, then said you lost my business for good. The chef said "what did I do, why?" he said because of you, you're an asshole" haha. Not a good experience. Do better. On a brighter note, the service staff was ok. Here's a short and objective review. The owner Joe, who claims to be a Nubu trained chef, does make some fierce sushi. But it comes at a price. His sushi is extraordinarily pricey and I'm not of the opinion that it is justified. While he is an artist in making sushi, again, I'm not sure if that artistry, which includes lots of sauces piled onto the sushi, justifies his break-your-credit-card pricing. Next is the vibe. I always enjoyed sitting at the sushi bar and observing Joe at work. But it also was a display of tension between him and his staff. I won't say more about this other than the vibe is off. I've gone when first opening for the evening and there has been a distinct odor of bug killing spray. It is a turnoff. As in disgusting. Service at tables is very slow. It seems that Joe has a cult following and as in all cults, one has to question what it is that attracts the followers. I'd recommend going elsewhere. read more

Been going here for years - BEST SUSHI EVER!! It always tastes so fresh and so amazing. They homemade their ginger dressing and it tastes unlike any place I've had before. This was a few years ago maybe the Sushi Joe guy has improved from about four years ago. I went in there to get a Hamachi hand roll and they gave me six little tiny rolls. They were about a quarter of an inch wide, not delicious! and charged me quite a bit of money server & chef; they are very rude plus no tablecloth, no napkins just nasty attitude all around and I didn't care much for the atmosphere not so wonderful! With these kind of prices I need to completely have a different experience a swept away yummy experience to understand why this is a tucked away gem? because I haven't found it to be such & definitely would not recommend this sushi Go away! Restaurant although maybe he's had an attitude realignment and is now serving the sushi the way they look in these pictures would be a good start. I didn't find that when I was there they served me those little tiny rolls on a little tiny plate & when I asked for a hand roll. I got little tiny individual rolls on a plain plate with no ginger no wasabi nothing to decorate at all on the plate and also treating customers nicer would be a good plan for Sushi Joe.. because they are insolent and rude! The quality of food at this restaurant has seriously gone downhill. I took my son there for the first time last night because he wanted to try real sushi and I told him this was a great place to start. Well, it was awful!!! The $100 toro jalapeño was sliced wrong and not even from the best part (belly) of the fish. All sushi dishes (tuna pizza, spicy lobster roll, toro, sushi gourmet roll) were drenched in sauces - most likely detract from the seafood not being its best. Our group left the entire sushi gourmet roll because it tasted funny (it was old or left out too long) and more than half of the toro jalapeño. No questions asked about how the meal was from the server, who had to notice, nor any credit for meals that were obviously really bad. To be fair, the chicken gyoza was good and the yellowtail jalapeño was decent, but nothing like Nobu. Our group will not be returning here when there are so many other options available in the county. Also, I wish I had taken photos but,unfortunately, I didn't think of it at the time. I am starting my food review channel with this restaurant and I just want everyone to know, I say it like it is. I live in the area and eat at all the local restaurants. My reviews are non bias, just how I see it and I have been fortunate to have traveled the world and eaten in the best and worst restaurants of many kinds. Take my perspective for what it is. I evaluate food, service, attitude, atmosphere and overall satisfction. I started to go to this restaurant when they first opened and some things have changed, yet some things remain the same. First off, the attitude of the owner is not great and never has been. He never says hi, bye, or thank you which is fine, but why not be nicer to customers? In years past, the staff at sushi restaurants would always say "thank you very much" to every customer or group as they would leave the restaurant. The waitresses are nice, but I was taking out, and there were zero customers in the restaurant at 6:45 on a Saturday night, not a good sign. The fish compartment was pretty dirty and had a very small variety of fish, especially given the exotic choices on the menu including $99 appetizers and $200 rolls. Pretty insane if you ask me considering some of the best Sushi restaurants in the world don't boast those prices, none the less a tiny, bleak empty restaurant in a shopping strip in Boca Raton next to a grilled cheese chain. As always, they offered me 10% off if I paid cash, OK if that's your thing, but I think the price should be the price, no matter how you pay. I pay by credit card, so no discount for me. I ordered 6 rolls and dumplings. The bill was $140, and I weighed the bags and the food in total was less than 2 pounds, so that's $70 per pound. Not that I am in the habit of weighing the food, but the bags were so light , I had to. Considering good fish can be as much as $20-$25 per pound, this seemed ridiculous. Mostly rice and containers, I feel that the prices here are really high, and I didn't order any market price items. I had made that mistake in the past, and if you read some reviews, you will be warned about the insane prices. But lets put price aside. The unfortunate bottom line is that the food is not really good. The rice is better than most of the local sushi restaurants, and that is really important, but I could not really taste the difference between the spicy tuna, salmon, or yellowtail. The Gyoza was typical frozen dumpling, no better than Costco, and the oshinko was strangely sweet and not crunchy like it should be. Overall, I work hard to make a living and I don't want to work to pay for restaurants like this. Personally, I have learned my lesson over and over with this place and will not go back. Our 3rd time there and a complete disaster. 2 new rolls out of 4 were mediocre at best. To add to the injury, when you order tea and the waitress brings 2 cups and then charges you $9, 4.5 times 2 , even after you pointing to her that she brought ONE tea kettle with ONE tea bag and not two. Sushigo was disappointing and I'm not sure why it warrants such high star reviews but I did notice that some people based their ratings on sushi rolls and that's fine if they enjoyed them but to really determine sushi quality and taste it's probably best to try unembellished nigiri or sashimi. And that was my plan .... until the waitress recommended a crab roll appetizer and this is when I realized that something was amiss... big time. The crab roll was not crab but artificial, you know crab with a K and to compound the badness it was doused with mayonnaise. I was off to a bad start and I was hoping it would get better and it did but only slightly. A salad was disappointing with a concentrated dressing overpowering every item on the plate. We ordered large assortments of nigiri and went through many different types of fish and the taste, texture and quality varied and was very inconsistent. Some pieces were good while others were chewy. Nothing I sampled would be in the sublime category. I thought the plating was quite nice and I was really hoping that I would come upon some nigiri that I loved but it just didn't happen. I would rate it a 2.5 but in the absence of decimal and fraction ratings I rate up rather than down. There were some very good aspects of Sushigo and they include fantastic and friendly service and though the restaurant is simple and sparse it has a nice laid back and welcoming ambiance. I went there because of reviews but I also read that MP items were outrageous so I made sure that I ask all the prices before I ordered. I have a lot of experience in Japanese food especially with Sashimi. I once paid 18K for 4 people in Masa in NY but never complained as it was a once a lifetime experience. I also been all around the Japan Island eating local and high end food in every big city. Had unbelievable experience. Once I have been there I started thinking it might not be as good as its recommended as every table and wall offered bribe for good review and all the waiters had t-shirts writing on them; bad review you pay double.... my wife had tap water, side salad and chicken tempura roll altogether with 20% service and tax $16-17... reasonable but not good too much rice, salad and too little chicken. I asked the price of toro the waiter said19.99, salmon belly 11.99 so I ordered 1 piece of toro with caviar and salmon belly and she never told me that with 1/5 of a tea spoon caviar was extra $20. When I saw 39.99 I was shocked.. she was also so so rude. OK if the food is exceptional you can swallow it... there are much better Japanese restaurants where you can eat better food and at least 30% cheaper and most important treated properly, in and around Boca. For a good state of mind after you dine and be happy, do not go there do not dine there, if you happen to go make sure that you don't eat anything where it says MP.../ WARNING Or at least give a good review and get a free mochi ice cream... also its not run by Japanese or Chinese people but by Bangladeshis,(or similar) who are good with lamb not fish. Is Sushigo the best sushi place in S Florida? Hmmm, not in my experience. (But hey if it is for you, lucky you, you get a lot of wonderful sushi experience ahead of you; and I sincerely mean that, and not being sarcastic.) Yes, it's beautifully presented (but nowadays what sushi isn't?) and they do have some rarer options beyond your tuna, salmon and yellowtail, they even sprinkle some gold flakes on top. Does that make you feel better for what you paid for? It's solidly good sushi, although I have definitely had similar quality for less, and same price but better sushi. I went a la carte, which starts at $3.99 a piece. At that base price don't expect fish though, more like egg, gourd, fake crab or the like. Tuna, salmon, masago, saba and those are $5.99 a piece. Then you get the fancy ones at MP. Do check to see what the market price is, they can be $19 for one piece of sushi, unless money is no object to you (which in this case it's probably your personal assistant not you reading the reviews...) Other more expensive places do charge $6 or more per piece, but then again, it's either same price for better or same quality for less. I'd give the food a four, but considering the out-of-line price and the okay service, I can't truly say I am a fan. If you are curious to try this place, go at lunch, it's more affordable, and you can decide whether it's worth coming back for dinner. And oh, rob the ATM. You get 10% off if you pay cash. read more
