We heard of this place through a friend and have she said it's her go to spot so we had to check it out. We decided to go in on a Friday night. We were lucky enough to get seated immediately. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was eclectic and casual. It felt comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You could tell everyone behind the sushi counter knew what they were doing! Their take out orders were flowing in. The menu includes such unique rolls and there's something for everyone. We decided to go with the Butter Crab to start. When I tell you this was the best thing I have tasted in a very long time.. I'm not kidding. There's something so special about it about it. I've had other butter crab rolls but this one is the top. They incorporate lemon which adds a sweet but tart flavor that cuts through the richness of butter and rice. I highly highly recommend that. We also ordered the spicy tuna roll and toro roll. Make sure you get their spicy mayo on the side. It is absolutely delicious. Okay now back to the rolls. The rolls were great quality and so reasonably priced. The sushi rice is really well done. I came here with my husband the other night because we went to an event and left super hungry and desiring sushi. As we were heading north, we happened to see this place. I didn't realize that I'd been here years ago and had a great experience. I'll tell ya, the sushi was good, the service was friendly and it was convenient that they were open later but man, $27 for a roll? I get inflation but that's a bit much. Needless to say, we shared the roll because, after all, my husband's birthday is tomorrow. I would definitely recommend if you're in the area but make sure you're prepared for the prices! read more

This small venue is as close to an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant as I've ever experienced in south Florida. Not much at all like the usual combo sushi-Japanese food place or even the hybrid Thai-sushi places that I'm used to. In fact, there was very little choice for me to select to eat at our recent lunch here. So why am I still giving it four stars? Because I know that their sushi is quite good, my husband liked his meal, and that the restaurant (and its chef) deserve a very good rating. The caveat is that you need to know not to come here if you don't eat raw fish, you're staying away from rice, or you're looking for a hibachi style meal. Neither of which I knew before we stopped in. So be forewarned. The lunch specials were all sushi combinations. And 98% of the regular menu is sushi. My husband got their sushi lunch special -- which included the chef's choice of fish (5 pieces over rice -- one tuna; one salmon; 3 other white fish) and a small 4-piece California roll. He opted for a salad to start (or you could have miso soup). I also asked for a side salad to start. It was a large plate of mixed greens (lots of frisée and spinach leaves) topped with carroty ginger dressing. It had a few pieces of tomato and cucumber around the edges. In the center on top of the greens was a mound of shredded carrots and shredded beets. I'm not a fan of frisée, but the dressing was quite good. So what did I eat you ask? I tried to see if they had a kanisu roll -- this one has cucumber on the outside (instead of rice) and a filling similar to a California roll, but nope. She said they didn't make it. The only non-rice roll with cucumber (naruto) had raw fish in it. Asking if anything on the menu was cooked, she mentioned that they had one roll with baked salmon. So yes, I ordered it. It's their volcano roll which was a mound of (cooked) baked (canned?) salmon on top of a California roll. So I ate the slightly spicy salmon and picked out the cucumber, avocado, and krab from the center of the California roll (leaving the rice behind). Ok. So this is a strange review in that this restaurant isn't for me. However, those that love sushi will fall in love with it. And just cause I can't appreciate it, doesn't mean you shouldn't. read more

Sushi was great! The rice had a great consistent. There was the sushi vinegar and it was balanced by the soft rice. Hard to come by the perfectly cooked sushi rice. The salmon was fresh and buttery. It melted in my mouth. The lunch specials are great! $14 for a salmon combo sushi. It comes with either a miso soup or salad. The soup was a bit overpriced on its own ($7/bowl) . The salad was mixed greens, not the usual lettuce that other restaurants serves. The only issue we had was the service. It was really slow and we were the only table at the restaurant. There was two other tables but they were in the process of getting their checks when we were ordering. It took 45 mins for food to come out. Great place to eat if you're not on an hour lunch break. It is truly a spot to check out. Came highly recommended, and my source is highly creditable. Not fancy whatsoever, but the food sure is. The "don't judge a book by its cover" definitely applies here. I believe we ordered over 10 different rolls, and I can't say a bad word about any of them. Hate to leave a bad review, but Sushi Jessie was truly disappointing. I came for lunch and although they had just opened, the rice was gummy as if it had been leftover from the night before. Not only was the rice lousy, there was way too much in each piece of nigiri. The fish quality was ok- not great but not terrible. Service was prompt and smooth. A hole in the wall in every sense, Sushi Jessie is a no-frills spot for amazing sushi rolls at an excellent value. The fish is fresh and I have yet to come across a roll I haven't liked. I highly recommend the Kanye roll and are lobster bomb roll - both have pleased many a crowd. They give you a green salad when you order it - not just a light assemblage of iceberg and a slice of cucumber. In terms of value, this place sits between Phat Boy (also great) and Sushi Go (exorbitantly priced, but unmatched quality), and I think you definitely get that for which you pay. 5/5 haven't come across a menu item that is not as described and delicious. read more

After eating my way through Boca and Delray to find a sushi restaurant that could be considered my "go-to" place, I discovered Sushi Jessie. The roll selection is unique and the sauces are exquisite. Hands down, the absolute best sushi I have eaten on all of SFLA! The family that runs the place seems happy to be there and genuinely loves to serve food to the community. My two younger daughters love going there for the Japanese soda and the yummy miso soup, which is served in these beautiful, elegant bowls. I took my two college-aged daughters when they were home for Mother's Day. I must admit I have a raised a couple of food critics, and they absolutely love it. They rated it as the best sushi they had ever eaten. As an added touch, they had roses for all the mothers who came in to dined with them that weekend--such a sweet touch. We sat outside, and it was a nice and quiet. The food was very tasty! Our first dish was the Jalapeno appetizer, which consisted of hamachi. It was very flavorful and did have a kick of spiciness. Our next dish was the Spicy toro tartar. That is absolutely a must have. It was extremely flavorful, and the chip was so crispy I wish they gave us more!!! We ordered two rolls that were recommended by the waitress. The first was the birthday roll. It was fresh and light, very good! After you eat it, you don't feel like you over ate... We were visiting from out of town and wanted sushi. We selected Sushi Jessie based on previous reviews...we were not disappointed. Every order is fresh and hand prepared. We ordered several different items between the four of us and everyone was pleased. For me personally, the tempura shrimp roll topped the list. They also charge extra for eel sauce and spicy mayo which really bothers me because it should be included! It's really small and not very welcoming if you're looking for a dine in situation. I tried this place for the first time today looking for a solid sushi pick up. Long story short, the girl who took my order was shockingly rude and then ended up getting my tiny and simple order wrong. I can't explain how annoying it is when you get home and see your order is wrong and you flash back to the conversation of the employee giving you attitude while you struggle to get your order in on the phone. Close your eyes and imagine "An Avocado Salad" at just about any sushi restaurant in the country. Some crunchy bland lettuce, 9 or so thin slices of avocado and a deliciously intoxicating orange magic dressing that makes the bland lettuce okay? Cause that's what *I* imagine. I've been to a LOT of sushi joints... and that's not what hit the table when I landed at Sushi Jessie. This thing was gorgeous, and while it didn't have the sliced avocado, it had a wonderful... let's call it Asian inspired Guac in a form on the side that was the right amount. Moving on to sushi... Yes, tons of it, and varied! I pretty much compare most sushi places on Rainbow rolls, because you can get them almost everywhere. The fish was wonderfully fresh, they did add a touch of cream cheese in theirs which was a surprise, but still tasty. I also enjoyed the NY handroll, I appreciated the waitress taking the few extra seconds to confirm that I knew what a handroll was, if you don't, it's basically a seaweed icecream cone shape, stuffed with amazingness. Miso soup was a hefty bowl. The Sashimi (night 2) was "Good", but I felt some of the fish pieces were a tad too chilled. If you're just hankering for sushi, and you like rolls, I'd say start there, because they were the rock star. While I was in the area for family matters, I noticed on Yelp that this inconspicuous sushi restaurant got very good reviews. So, I went. This is one of the exceptions when the other reviews did not reflect my experience. For the price I was expecting a little more. My Ali roll just came by itself. It did not come with Miso soup or a ginger salad, as it might at other restaurants. I was still hungry afterwards. So, I had to order another roll, and then my total bill was way too high for a weeknight quick bite. The atmosphere is also pretty much nothing, too. I noticed there's a sushi buffet across the street, where I could have gotten unlimited sushi for only $22, which is less than the $30 I paid here. However, the quality of the sushi itself was alright, and the service was good. So, they will get three stars. read more
