I had never before been to a Japanese restaurant that plays reggae music, but I guess there's a first time for everything. If you're looking for sushi while in Stowe, give this place a try. This must be the local hot spot. Very busy then again it was a Friday, so expected. I was impressed by how attentive the staff was. The sushi was delish and presentation was beautiful. The drinks were amazing and consistent. A lot of times u get one good one and then watered down cocktails. Apparently the bartender is also a manger which impressed me more. Coming from a restaurant background it's nice to see management actually work and not sit in an office. Amazing team. I will definitely be returning when back in Stowe area. I was working this week in VT (Solar..thank you VT!) and had to make some "end of the day calls and connections". It was a beautiful September day and Sushi Yoshi had an outdoor patio...perfect! Ordered shrimp tempura and chicken finger appetizers for the kids' dinners. Well prepared but incredibly bland. Dipping sauce didn't help. I ordered chicken cashew stir fry. Again, super bland. Chicken was "slimey" and reminded me of what I would get in any basic takeout Chinese restaurant. Then the prices: what??? There are a lot of great restaurant choices in Stowe. I really wanted to love this place. I have no complaints about the food well the one thing I was able to try..but the service was so slow and sporadic. I sat outside at the bar on Saturday night and spent two hours there. I had two drinks and an appetizer. The bartender kept running inside for long periods of time while patrons sat around wishing for a napkin or a refill. I ordered a salad that never came and waited around for 30 minutes for her to bring my check, which she charged the gentlemen sitting next to me for when she jumbled our credit cards. I am not sure if she has too much on her plate, poor prep work or what. I have never seen so little of a bartender while sitting at the bar. She also chased down a group for " not paying" when they had gone inside to pay because they waited around too long and were never attended to. read more

Nate, the owner really cares about his new restaurant and was so helpful and welcoming. The staff was so friendly and helpful. My husband and I went there on all Friday night and the service and food was amazing. We have been looking for quality sushi in stowe for some time and this was it.!! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that loves Japanese food. The ambience is wonderful. Looking forward to bringing family and friends and sampling the hibachi!! I'm really not the biggest fan of hibachi -- to me, if you've seen the show once, and eaten the meal, you've gotten the point. This place didn't change my mind. It's OK, certainly edible, I just don't really find the flavors that exciting. But one of our guests loves hibachi, and it was her birthday, so here we went. If you do like hibachi, this should do it for you. Food was, to me, like every other hibachi, the chef was entertaining and did all the requisite tricks. The bar and dining room were clean and pleasant. Service was fine, although I would have had a second drink with dinner if the server had returned a little sooner. A nice but forgettable experience for me. I did not try any sushi, so can't comment on that part of the menu. read more

Sushi Yoshi is among the top tier Hibachi/Sushi/Asian cuisine places I've ate at. My significant other got the octopus salad and teriyaki salmon, I ordered the hibachi steak, I've also had their mochi ice cream and an alcoholic beverage all of which was perfect and exactly what we wanted. The service is very good and the staff is very friendly. Believe me when I say you won't be disappointed at Sushi Yoshi, 10/10 would bang again. read more

Our second night in Stowe we decided to give this restaurant a try. Our Server was friendly and attentive the food was amazing. The Atmosphere was great. Ridiculously small portions. I ordered hibachi steak house fantasy to share w a normal size person ( $ 48.95 plus $14.95 sharing fee) and specifically asked if it would be enough . They told me yes. Great improvement for a location that has often seen restaurant failures over the years. Was surprised everything was spot on even during it's first week in business. Ordered on the phone take out for 4 and were assured by the order taker who checked with someone else that the 10% local discount card would be honored today (on the Sunday before Labor Day). After ringing up our order, the manager said they would not give us the discount because it is s holiday. When I told her we asked when placing our phone order she said, "well I didn't take your order and I'm the manager". Poor customer relations at its finest! read more

So I'm not completely sure if I want to lean more towards the 2.5 stars or the 3 stars. The food was good. it was me and my wife's night out for the first time in about a year and we figured we would give it a try. It was our first time having "real deal" sushi. Now don't get me wrong it was as suspected. The sushi came out raw un cut and on rice which was great so far everything to expect. We got the assortment of different fish and in all it was ok but defiantly nothing to brag about everything was very blan tasting. Really the only difference was how fishy each one was. But then our real meal came out and which we got different rolls. Now of course you can't really mess these up and they were good but yet pretty much what to expect. Nothing to brag about yet again. I did like what I got which was the lobster roll with this spicy center and some other things and also got of course the California roll and this one other crab with cream cheese roll all good but still blan. Plus the server you could tell didn't like his job. My wife and I were excited and wanted to get ideas about what to order and what is good. He pretty much dodged our question and kind of felt like he just wanted to rush us and have his fake smile on which was unfortunate. The atmosphere is fun it has those tables where they cook in front of you and they do have hot saki which is my favorite but as far as food and service not the greatest and probably won't go back again for a night out with my wife. They do have out door seating but good luck getting out there on a busy night and when we first got there it took forever to get a seat. read more

Ok, lets start with saying I am from CA and sushi is much more a thing of life then in Stowe. But this place fore sure is not worth the hype or $$ at least for sushi. Ask for sushi bar, in CA you sit on bar and order from chef and have an interaction not at this place. You place your order with your waitress. You can watch all your stuff made in front of your eyes and then placed behind chef to be picked up. After 10 minutes you get your plate. Now lets talk about the sushi, the salmon skin roll is more of a tasteless gum thing then crispy salmon. How hard is it to bake the salmon skin ? The spider roll was the quality of a CALIFORNIA super market sushi. Best , if you can call it that was the spicy tuna roll but I wouldn't give it not more then a 3. And ok the pacific is far from Stowe but I head great sushi in ROCHESTER ny and that's not much closer. But I guess if you are the only sushi joint in town you can get away with bad food and service. So if you like sushi don't waist your $$ and skip the joint and wait till you can't home. Not sure about there other food this review is for sushi only. read more

Ambiance was warm, food was okay. The guy that was picking up the plates and cleaning the table was very clumsy, he dropped plates on me and I had sauce everywhere on my clothes. He barely apologized and I could see he was hiding a smile. We didn't get any discount, nothing. I would not go again. Loved this restaurant until last night. Did hibachi and food was good. Had to wait about 15 minutes before ordering, which was fine until we ordered dessert. While waiting an especially long time for our dessert to come we were asked to move to a different table so the next hibachi could start. We had to move into the bar (a group of 5 of us), leave some of our drinks ( I still had a tea pot, water, and tea cup) no one offered to carry, and then we waited in bar. It was like we were punished because they were behind. I've never been asked to move mid meal, huge customer service no-no to me. read more

We had a cold heady topper and shrimp tempura for appetizer. I enjoyed the Mongolian beef dish and my wife liked the valentine sushi roll with sauce on the side. I'm really happy to see a new addition to the Stowe scene... we were excited to try this place out before I knew much about it, but I was intrigued by the signs outside. We decided to go for the Hibachi tables for our first experience, because ... well, why not? The first thing I noticed is what an awesome job they did on renovation and interior design. This place looks totally different than the previous restaurants, and I have to say a LOT better. On to the service and food. I will speak for myself: I got the filet and chicken Hibachi and it was TOP NOTCH. I can't say enough about the quality of the food and also the show that was put on for my family by the chefs... truly an authentic Hibachi steakhouse experience! My wife loved her Hibachi meal by the way as well. I can't wait to come here and sit at the Sushi bar next time. I've heard from my friends that the sushi here is by far the best in VT, and rivals any sushi bar in NYC. As a nice surprise, we had a few drinks at the bar after our meal, because it quite frankly looked like a cool place to hang out. I was struck by the friendly "local" vibe here and plan to hang out here apres ski for sure. Stowe could use more places like this, but I'm glad this is here now. It really seems like the owners care about the local scene, which in my eyes makes for a great place to hang out. In short: great food, warm, friendly ambiance and fun bar. Classic example of how the only game in town can get away with murder. Sushi "chefs" don't know what the word nigiri means, as well as other sushi 101 words. Need I say more? Seaweed is soggy, patchy and falls apart. Salmon skin tastes deep fried and greasy, not broiled or baked. Fish quality is low, at best. Waitresses all absolutely clueless and terribly inept - no apparent training. None of them know any Japanese words for the sushi. The waitresses all claim the sushi chefs are Japanese. Really? The chefs all look at you like you're from mars, if you ask any questions. Stir fry tastes like fast food; slimy, tasteless and vegetables are limp and soggy.... a cardinal sin in the Asian dining world. Even the bar is un-zen; rock music is blaring out at a piercing volume, pours are very skimpy and you feel lucky if the bartenders bless you with their attention. When we wanted more wine and to have our plates removed, we had to sit over 20 min. while they were gossiping and putting makeup on. Finally, we had to ask for service. And the sushi prices are crazy expensive. Walmart-grade sushi for Manhattan prices. Again, all a function of having no competition (combined with the fact that most of their customers have no clue what good sushi is). If an authentic Japanese restaurant were to open in Stowe, bye bye sushi yoshi. In the meantime, at least they have the hibachi silliness, to keep the soccer kids out of the other restaurants we do frequent. Kids are less discerning, right sushi yoshi? read more

Very decent Japanese/ Chinese. Stopped in on Sunday afternoon after a track meet at Von Trapp. Had chirashi sushi which was quite good. This used to be our favorite spot. We traveled an hour from home for my birthday yesterday to celebrate at Sushi Yoshi, and that was the last time we will ever go there. The hostess was beyond rude and disrespectful to everyone in my party, we were told to come early and were sat 30 minutes late. When we finally sat at a hibachi, that the hostess directly brought us to, we were immediately yelled at by the same hostess that we weren't sitting in the right spot. Obviously this doesn't make any sense, and we were all very put off and confused by this horrible and incredibly rude customer service right off the bat. People who act like this should not work in customer service, she completely ruined our appetite before we even sat down. I was hoping this rude customer service would end there, but unfortunately it did not. My scarf had accidentally fallen on the floor and as I went to pick it up an extremely rude couple of waitresses walked all over it. EW! Train your staff to be more considerate of your customers. This is not why people pay to go out to eat. The food was good, our chef was great we were all trying to have a good time despite the incredibly rude behavior from your front of house staff, until the check came. We explained to the waitress MANY times how we wanted to split up the payments, very simple, 300 dollars then put the remainder on the card we provided. very, very simple. After waiting 20 or so minutes and being rudely shooed away from the hibachi, even though we were waiting for YOUR staff to do their job, the manager comes back saying the card isn't working. My husband looks at the receipts and they have been trying to charge $300 to his card. The waitress apparently had assumed the $300 was a tip, even though we explained to her NUMEROUS times how we wanted the payment to go. Now my husbands card isn't working today due to being swiped so many times for $300 and I'm still furious about this unfortunate dining experience. This restaurant's front of house staff is so incompetent and rude, get a new staff or you will lose more customers. That was so embarrassing for you as a restaurant and for me bringing my close friends and family to your establishment. read more

We were a bit hesitant to try Sushi Yoshi, but so glad we went. We ordered the miso soup, the springroll, and a variety of rolls. Each roll was fantastic, very fresh, great flavor. They have lots of options on the menu, drinks were good too. Service was prompt, helpful and friendly; only negative is that it's a bit overpriced but that's expected in Stowe. We will definitely be going back. read more
