Stopped by for a late lunch, early dinner. Hungry after helping my SIL move some items and afternoon shopping. They have an extensive sushi variety of sushi options here, the clear pictures help for sure. The stuffed jalapeño and the avocado bomb looks good as always. Dave is waiting on us. We started off with ginger salad, miso soup, firecracker appetizer, Eskimo roll, added jalapeño and cream cheese, firecracker roll with spicy crab salad only, no tuna and a MSU roll too. $57.24. The spectacular, less the shrimp and a mango fiesta roll look interesting as well. The ginger salad is okay, the lettuce or iceberg is a bit fried out and there's big veins and chunks in it. Dressing is okay. The miso soup is good. The firecracker app is tasty, a nice tempura crunch to it. The MSU roll wasn't anything special, even though it had cream cheese in it. A staffer came to pick up our discarded appetizer dish and accidentally dumped the miso soup all over my left cloth shoe. She came back with a white paper napkin to wipe up the floor. I asked her for a wet rag, since the miso broth dripped all over my shoe as well. The MSU roll with the crab salad only was pretty tasty, nice heat to it. The modified Eskimo roll wasn't yummy. $0.75 for each sriracha. $1 for a tiny sliver of jalapeño and another $1 for cream cheese too. Service and food were both pretty good. Maybe recommend staffers to carry discards from one table a time. The Eskimo, fire cracker appetizer and the firecracker roll are all worth trying. read more

Back again because another friend wanted to try this place after going to the farmer's market. SZ is not authentic Japanese. My friend ordered the bulgogi bento box and I ordered the salmon teriyaki bento box. Each bento box came with soup and salad. I was able to substitute my meat gyoza for a veggie one. I was also able to swap the california roll for a spicy tuna roll. That was nice, especially since there was no upcharge. Still, my meal was not good. The gyozas should not be deep fried and I think they use Sriracha sauce in the spicy tuna which didn't taste good. Our server was very nice and checked on us regularly. read more

Food was good with very affordable lunch special pricing. Their complimentary house salad and miso soup were so delish compared to other sushi places. My only complaints are the excessive rice to fish ratio and that I got a massive stomach ache after eating here. It included an entree, so I had chicken teriyaki, rice, and veggies. It also came with California Roll but they let me sub it with the avocado roll, 2 fried dumplings, and tempura vegetables. A lot of food! The chicken teriyaki and veggies were on point. The seaweed on the avocado roll was a little tough. I also thought the tempura veggies were bland. But overall, I was very pleased with my meal. The restaurant had plenty of staff working. Lots of servers and chefs. It kept things moving! I did get a cherry coke and it was over $3. I mean, I guess I shouldn't complain since my actual lunch was so inexpensive. But $3! Lol. I made sure I drank enough to get refills! Anyone who spends over $8 gets a side salad and miso soup. Amazing even for take out! Sushi was fresh and so delicious!! Placed the order over the phone and it took about an hour but with them being busy and such a large order it's totally understandable. Definitely the Best Vegetarian Sushi I've ever had! The Veggie Love and Strawberry Blossom are what vegetarian Sushi dreams are made of and I've yet to find anything good even close to comparable. Unexpected gem! I did not expect a superb sushi restaurant in Brighton Michigan. I was nearby and spotted in corner of small strip mall. Exterior of building screamed "don't order anything raw!". Immediately the service and crowd (within 5 min of opening for lunch on a Monday) sang "this is the real deal". The sushi was artfully prepared with serious attention to detail; every ingredient fresh. There were several regulars who were known by name by the servers, and five (yes, 5) sushi chefs very busy. It was a sliced avocado filled with crab salad and topped with spicy mayo and eel sauce. The sushi was good, but nothing really stood out as jaw dropping. The mixed drinks were my biggest disappointment. For them to be that expensive, they shouldn't be nearly undrinkable. It's the best sushi north if ann arbor, but I'm not so sure it's worth the long wait times they have here. I once had some Korean fare and found it less than average but I would say that is not the standard for this restaurant. I was not sure about how many items I could order for the menu being vegan, but found several options that I was wresting about what to order. I was considering the veggie udon and buckwheat noodle dishes, the tofu bento box and they also had some Korean dishes too like jap chae noodles and more! I was actually having a hard time deciding what to order because there was more choices than what I could shake a stick at! I ended up choosing the bibimbap and the plain fashion roll and gyoza for appetizers. The bibimbap came in a stone pot and it was pretty authentic Korean food and they had a pretty good portion. The gyoza was delicious and the veggie roll actually was better than I expected, had a lot of veggies in it like asparagus, and many hearty veggies that went well together and was quite filling and satisfying. I wasn't expecting much from a sushi place as a vegan, but I was pleased that they not only served sushi and Japanese food, but they also had Korean food in their menu items which were pretty comparable to Korean restaurants. Glad I tried this place, they had a good selection for vegans to be satisfied. Kinda pricey, but the quality was good and the portions were pretty good too. Next time I'm in Brighton, Sushi Zen would be a definite revisit to this place. read more
