Unfortunately some of the most rude restaurant staff I have ever encountered. They yelled at me and my 7 year old daughter for her leaving a seat cover floating in the toilet (maybe get a stronger flush if you're going to monitor and shame your customers?) I was quite disappointed with our meal at Sushiko. Let me preface by saying that we probably wouldn't come here on our own, but we had a $25 off $35 coupon from Restaurant.com for this restaurant, so we decided to use it last Thursday. We arrived around 8PM to a completely empty restaurant. The decor is nice, with a mural of Mt. Fuji and some cranes along the wall, and everything is a nice neutral tone. As we were seated, the waitress brought out edamame and tea. We eventually ordered: -Gomaae: cold spinach salad. A rip off for +$4. Less than a handful of cold spinach with sesame sauce. -Sexy Ban roll: shrimp tempura, salmon, scallop, fish egg, avocado. Mehhhh...it was a little fishy, which made me iffy about it. The rice would come off when I would pick up the individual pieces. It tasted okay, about what you could get at Whole Foods from their sushi counter. Definitely not as good as your typical roll houses. -Some sort of "Green" something roll: spicy tuna inside, seaweed salad on top. Meehhhh again. The spicy tuna was okay but the seaweed salad on top made it so soggy and it seemed like it was just plopped on with no regard for how it looked. -Nabeyaki udon: Pretty much chicken udon with a side of tempura. This came with a salad which was, unfortunately, probably one of the better tasting things we had (the dressing was good). The soup itself was okay, probably what you can get from other Japanese restaurants, but it was pretty boring to me. The side of tempura it came with was very sad. It was one shrimp, one broccoli and a slice of squash, all battered and fried into oblivion. I dunno about you, but when I think of good tempura, I think of light batter, lightly fried, so that it's crispy on the outside but not super oily on the inside. This was like if Jack In The Box tried to make tempura. Womp womp womp. Honestly, I'd give this place a 1 star for food just because everything seemed so sloppy and just blah, but the waitress was pleasant, the decor was very nice, and the edamame and tea were on the house. I came in for lunch and had miso soup (solid), a green salad (very nice, crisp fresh lettuce and such), and spicy rainbow boll -- a twist on the classic which puts spicy tuna inside instead of California-roll interior. This is a very friendly neighborhood sushi place. The lunch specials are pretty standard bento boxes, teriyaki chicken, and chirashi. The oyakodon is nice and hot. Its served in a square bowl, kind of cool. We also ordered the stone pot rice, which came out really crunchy and yummy, with three kinds of fish eggs. Got an order of hamachi sashi, which made my day. Very fresh. They were cut a bit thick, but oh the more to love you with. They are busy at lunch, but still very polite and efficient. Unsafe COVID protocols for sure! I will NEVER go there again and I have been a loyal customer 2x a week for at least 4 years. In fact I am an apartment manager with 2 properties within walking distance from them and have recommended the restaurant to almost every resident and prospect for the those 4 years. NO CHANCE IN THE WORLD THEY ARE RISKING MY RESIDENTS WITH BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES AND POUR HYGIENE. My first concern when walking in were the "help wanted" signs in every single window. Once inside; I stood (in the entry) waiting while the manager interviewed someone. 5 minutes of standing right there next to them asking all sorts of questions I shouldn't be listening to. 5 minutes go by and they seat me next to 3 college kids comparing their "Fuck sessions" and party exploits from Friday night and how they were so wasted on Molly they couldn't remember the evening..... That part wasn't a big deal, (kinda fun and sad to listen to all at the same time)... BUT when one of them couldn't stop coughing, complaining about how hot it was, wiping her flem on the seat and table; the other one said "you are sick, you should go to the dr". Her answer (while the waitress was standing between me/them) was, "I know I'm sick! I've got it but I'm not going to the dr. They will test me and then I can't do nothin.." The 3 tables around them (so much for reduced occupancy) all immediately put on their masks and ate through them. I asked for my order to go. so I put on my mask, got a straw and waited for my food. The coughing, sneezing,and discussion of who else at their party who had covid continued. They got their bill, paid left, I got my food and the bill. Gave them my card and watched the leftovers plates from the other table be taken away. No cleaning, no sprays, no wipes, not the table and not the WET booth (yes wet, full of visible sweat and snot). In walked another couple for lunch... I signed my bill, was standing up to leave, and sadly saw them seated at the table next to me. The owner and staff do not care for customers.. Ordered via Uber Eats and due to the restaurant not packing half of items (2 out of 4 items), my son and family didn't get the food after waiting for more than an hour. I called the restaurant to let them know and they only asked me to come pick it up. Didn't hear a sincere apology and they kept saying "we are very busy, food is here". I wanted to check options with Uber and once I reported missing items via Uber app, I got a partial refund automatically from app. I called back the restaurant to update, and the staff was unhappy about the partial refund, and considered no remaining issues as I got refunded, and just unhappy that I didn't come pick it up, and told us the order is cancelled and it's done. I had to go to another place to take out food for my son. My wife was upset at how they handled the situation and even tried to talk to the owner, Jay, who said the same as staffs, "sorry we are very busy". Comparing with other bento box I've tried in Bay Area, I suggest the owner to change the teriyaki sauce if possible. The taste of garlic is too strong. The egg rolls are too salty... It seems like the ownership has been changed recently here. The food quality was very good, sashimi was very fresh and good portion. All the staffs are very friendly and sushi chef works in his chef uniform and had professional appearance. Four of us ordered like 7 rolls, udon, beef teri dinner, ama ebi, all kinds of sashimi, cold soba and 4 appetizers like agedashi tofu, shrimp tempura, chicken karaage, baked mussel and we loved every single plates. We came for the sushi but I wanted some nice chicken udon. There was another type that includes more veggies that was totally worth it. It comes in an iron pot and is filled to the brim of goodness. Before Sushiko, there was Suzy's or Susie's Sushi. It was a Chinese run sushi boat moat merry go round (kaitenzushi) that let's just say was bad enough eventually drove Susie to do something else to pay the bills (strangely enough when I did try Susie's all employees there were dudes). Sushiko has a rather authentic sounding Japanese name for a Korean run restaurant that did not take over an existing Japanese restaurant (unlike Kikusushi in Cupertino, and Mikado up the street, formerly Japanese owned and sold to Korean ownership who may have carried on the name but not the quality). The name Sushiko may evoke some food pornolicious thoughts, as that was the name of Masayoshi Takayama's restaurant in LA and also where he originally apprenticed (140+ yr old Ginza Sushiko in Japan). There are arguably other restaurants called or contains the name Sushiko that deliver the good stuff. Unfortunately, Sushiko here in Los Altos falls short on that. Great customer service overall, and a passionate Korean sushi chef who does his best to please. But quality and selection are just not there. So yes bottom line, you should come here for teriyaki, tempura, bento, and the BIG ASS STUPID NAME ROLLS. Well Sushiko doesn't use that many stupid names, unlike some places. There's your standard dragon, spicy tuna, spicy scallop, caterpillar, and a few more and that's it. Stupid name rolls are like: HP Roll Google Roll Dumb Asswipe Roll Screaming MuddaFugga Roll Shizz Bomb Roll I Can't Believe It's So Big I'm Almost Choking Roll and my favorite Oh Man How Come They Put 1000 Island Dressing On This Shit, I ORDERED A ROLL NOT A BIG MCMAC Roll Luckily none of the above stupid ass rolls are at Sushiko. To be fair, I was told the sushi chef has had upwards of 20 years working at Japanese restaurants, so at least his nigiri looks a hell of a lot better than other places. Summer is not a good time to come. When the air gets stuffy, they have to leave the front entrance doors open. And when it is fly season, those little winged buggers like to come in and hang out in the air. At least that's not as bad as flies inside Tra Vigne in Napa Valley! read more

However, it appears to be run by a Korean family, and they have bulgogi on the menu; Welcome to America. Service is super friendly but spotty. I love the fact that they automatically bring green tea to the table, but then again, they often don't refill it unless you ask. I'm not sure the food is authentic to any particular standard, but it's decent: -- Two item bento. ($9) One of the better deals in the house, with largish portions; Teriyaki chicken was a bit odd since sauce it had strong smokey flavor; The CA roll was good and fresh; Came with soup, salad and edamame. On a another visit, I tried this with bulgogi and nigiri; The bulgogi was just OK; The nigiri was fresh and slightly above average; 3.5 stars. -- Unagi donburi. ($14). Not the best I've had though the portion was good; Eel quality seemed a little off, though it's hard to say why; 3 stars. -- Oyako donburi: ($9) Relatively standard, though a little on the bland side; They need to use a better sauce to liven things up a bit. (It really made me pine for the excellent version from Sunyyvale's Rokko, now closed); 2.5 stars Being convenient to work, I'll probably still hit Sushiko now and again, but I wouldn't take anyone here to impress them. read more

The food here is good and they are super accommodating whenever we call in less than 20 minutes ahead for a table of 12 (or more). I have fond memories of Sushiko with the welcoming staff and the chef creating fun rolls for us to try. The huge bottle of sake that our group polished off. 50 shots of sake spread among 9 people is a good amount. We were never rushed to leave and always had a great time talking to each other. I came here for dinner by myself on a Saturday evening, around 7pm. There was only one other table occupied when I arrived, so I didn't have any problems with getting seated. They told me that they had gotten some fresh salmon in the previous day, along with one or two other things, so I ordered the salmon sashimi, and two spicy rolls. Their menu has a lot of interesting rolls to choose from, and I found myself taking quite a while to decide on my order! They serve complimentary miso soup and edamame with dinner; both were tasty. My rolls and the sashimi were also flavourful and fresh, and the salmon sashimi was truly wonderful. They also served a scoop of green tea ice cream on the house, which was a great touch! The service was low-key but friendly and efficient, and as I was leaving the place was starting to fill up pretty rapidly. I'll definitely be coming back! read more

This place is so egregiously sub-par. This is the first bad yelp review I've ever written. Came here for lunch because I was craving Japanese and it was right next to my work. I got a bento box, and I can honestly say that I've never been so underwhelmed in my life. The edamame was not cold or hot, but it was watery for some reason. the tuna was low quality, the orange was tasteless. I wouldn't go so far to say that it was bad, but there was nothing memorable about this meal. It's food I would happily eat if it were free, but I would never pay for it. Would not go here again.
