I used to love this place.. but yesterday I had the worst experience I've had in a restaurant.. the girl with dark hair and glasses that worked on Saturday night at the bar had I really bad attitude and should not be in charge... we kindly asked one of the servers for a different table because it was very cold on the little room that they put us in and I also had my two year old with me who was sick, the server told the girl with glasses and right away she screamed "what's wrong with this place?!!" And said that the other empty tables were "reserved" at the end we let it go but had to eat super cold and very uncomfortable but noticed all of the other empty tables that they could've put us in, were never occupied... food was okay but service sucked , never going back read more

We have officially found our sushi spot in Reno. The place was beautiful! That view was spectacular for date night. Our waiter and Edgar up at the bar were absolutely amazing! You have to try the King Kong roll. It's a deep fried roll, took a shot and boy did it not disappoint. I will be dreaming about that roll for days! Food was okay. Not terrible, but not the best sushi I've had. What I found not appetizing was that their jalapeño poppers came like nigiri. Yakiton was very delicous and my favorite thing of all.The soft shell crab roll didn't tast like soft shell crab. Which was a little disappointing. Although, every other roll was good. The service was okay. We had two. One was nice, the other looked like they wanted to go home. The flooring in here needs to be fixed up a bit. This place has recently moved into La Vecchias old spot. Was Closed for two months, reopened 3 days ago. Not a great experience but I will return in a few months in hopes that they have worked out the kinks. I have always liked sushimis and this was just not up to their own standards. Almost positive it was bc of the new location but I have to be honest about my experience. No paper for orders. Everything is digital now But sadly they are having glitching issues and our order didn't go through. It took awhile for our server to notice so It's been 50 mins of waiting... for 3 rolls.. (took an hour). our waiter was great but our second order didn't get in either? He said bc of the new system. Took an hour to get two rolls and my 3rd never came.. ended up having to get it to go along with our to go order for my hubs. Our waiter didn't charge us for our to go order bc of how long it was taking. The fish tasted fresh and good for what I was able to try. As far as the new location Everything echoes (at least for the room we were in). The small room to the right. the music is fun and trendy but loud. It was super hard to hear my son while we were there and we felt shut off from the entire rest of the restaurant. Felt like being in a box;( On a positive note They have the new rounded chopsticks! Hooray! Smooth with no splintering. All the furniture is new the decor is a grey and pink scheme. With bright pink chairs. Very modern. Beautiful light fixtures in the front near the bar area. Our server was on his own so that on top of having a glitchy new system was an issue. They were extremely slow, over 10 minutes to even ask if we wanted a drink, gave us the wrong roll twice. This was the third time we have gone there and every time has been a disappointment. Our first time was in 2023 when they charged us for two pieces of an appetizer and two pieces of fish, and charged our 2 year old daughter all you can eat because we let her try a roll. I could probably eat their nigiri all day! Every round that I ordered had to have nigiri with it. I love that they have hand roll options for all of their rolls. That's something unique that I haven't seen before tbh, but that's great! You really can try a lot more of their rolls with the hand roll option. I'm really just writing this review because their nigiri was that worth. If they had nothing else on the menu except for their salmon nigiri I would still give it good reviews. Service was pretty good, but I did come in during Super Bowl lunch times, so it wasn't too crowded and there was no wait. It ended up getting more busy when I was almost done, so it's probably safe to say this place can get busy for weekend dinners. TLDR; would go back here for their salmon nigiri. read more

Finding sushi on the delivery apps is getting a little harder now. Part of the problem seems to be that I live in Panther Valley and its too far away (I am told, by the apps). After a long week, I wanted sushi. Its been a few months. I was told that Sushimi's was good. So I ordered from there. I ordered a few nigiri and some vegetarian rolls. I was really excited to give this place a second chance since our first time was not great... turns out the second round wasn't that great either. Let's start with the price. It is a bit more expensive than your other sushi places. Drinks wise, it has a wide variety of alcoholic beverages. I chose not to try any but they looked amazing on the menu. The sushi was very sub par. Even sometimes as simple (and my favorite) as the Golden Gate roll was lacking flavor. I also noticed that the fish tasted very fishy. Even the fresh salmon. The dessert menu is your average sushi dessert menu, except for the brownie sundae! Which we were so excited for.... then when we received it we were immediately disappointed. It was vanilla ice cream with two of the smallest brownies we had ever seen. They almost looked like sugar cubes. They were that small! I don't take pleasure in writing negative reviews, but Sushimi's is not the move. :( I ordered the Sancho Roll and Unagi. The rice on both of them was dry and tough. The Unagi was slimy and had skin that was inedible, so I couldn't finish it. The Sancho Roll was very dull and had more rice than filling; I honestly didn't know what I was eating. It was, however, spicy as promised from the jalapeño. Overall, wouldn't recommend. I was okay with getting cold sushi given the nature and timing of food delivery, but this was still not very good. Considering the late hours, are these customers, or--as suspected--are they some of the awkward staff acting out some arrested development? Regardless, it's inconsiderate of a residential community (many of whom are your customers), but on par for the weird atmosphere inside. This neighborhood can host better, more mature businesses, and it should. - horrible paper menus. My vision is perfect, but one still practically needs a magnifier to read the micro-print descriptions of their numerous rolls. - price to quantity. My long roll and handroll combined were literally the size of one of my hands. And I'm small. While the quality is there, for the same price you can get the same quality and greater quantity elsewhere, like a more substantial roll or a whole filet of cod at any decent restaurant. That's it. Used to love this place. You would come in and the staff would give you a fun greeting. Now you come in and they are blasting Mexican type music and the sushi roller can barely speaking English so it's difficult to interact with him and explain what you want. The food was actually pretty good but the service since we stepped in the front door was atrocious! We stood for nearly 10 minutes before actually being acknowledged that we were waiting for a table. We asked if we could sit at the sushi bar and told no. Only to find a couple that came in 20 minutes behind us were told they could sit at the bar. I'm not so sure how long this restaurant has been here, because I remember this being Hiroba Sushi. Regardless, this was our first time at Sushimi's and we were all very impressed. The name may have changed from Hiroba to Sushimi's, but when we walked through the front doors, the restaurant looked and felt very familiar. When it came to the menu, however, there were some notable differences. For starters, we noticed two appetizers that stood out; those being Spicy Chicken Skewers and Chicken Katsu Skewers. We decided to try out their Chicken Katsu Skewers. I also noticed that under their Nigiri section, they served Uni or sea urchin. Most AYCE sushi restaurants in Reno don't usually serve Uni. The only restaurant that did until Sushimi's was Hiroba actually! Unfortunately, shortly after putting in a couple of orders for it, our server came back saying that they were out of Uni for the day. Shucks. Next time then. We ordered an abundance of nigiri and sushi rolls, and they were all delicious. I don't think I have a particularly sensitive pallet so for me, nothing really stood out amongst the many competing AYCE sushi restaurants. I did hear that their hamachi kama (hamachi collar) was something to try, so I'll keep that in mind for my next visit. Their dessert menu actually had a lot more items than I'm used to seeing. Aside from their mochi and ice cream flavors, they have a Mango Cheesecake, Orange with Strawberry and Plum Wine, Tempura Banana, Brownie A La Mode with Caramel Drizzle, a Dessert Roll, and Sushimi's Special. Of course after eating so much sushi I'm usually too full dessert. With that being said, I just ordered my go-to, Strawberry Mochi. Sushimi's provided us with great quality sushi and dessert. Although the sushi rolls didn't stand out from the crowd of AYCE sushi restaurants here in Reno, they were still all very delicious. Sushimi's definitely is up there on my list of favorite sushi restaurants and I'll have to come back to try their Hamachi Kama and Uni nigiri. read more

Yelp! It's been a while since I've reviewed... but I'm still enjoying delicious foods! Stopped by sushimi right when they opened on a Saturday morning and I do have to say -- ideal quiet time to enjoy their delicious food. However: we didn't realize before going in...reservations are a must!!! Onwards to the food. Ordered a couple appetizers (mussels and yakiton) and although they're usually my go-to appetizers for sushi, I would definitely skip it over at this place. Even though they were fine, just save the space in your stomach for even more rolls and nigiri! They had my favorite nigiri! Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse and it was executed not only beautifully but also deliciously! As we're all the other nigiri ranging from the meguro to the unagi -- ALL WERE DELICIOUS! And fairly fresh considering we live in Reno. We stuffed up on the delicious nigiri that we really only had room for 3 rolls but they didn't disappoint! Yummy, filling and fresh! Finished the meal off with a green tea cheesecake and it was just the perfect sweetness that paired with the savory goodness from this place! Side note: compared to other places, these rolls and nigiri were fairly small? To accurately describe them? Not sure if it's a con for other people but I personally consider it a pro because it left me more room to enjoy more of what they had to offer! read more

We tried out Sushimi's for date night. It was our first time here. We checked in at 6 and was told it would be a 30 minute wait. We decided to wait patiently but 30 mins ended up being turning into an hour. We sat down and another 10 minutes passed before we had to waive someone down for water and appetizers. It seemed like they were short staffed and trying their best to accommodate the parties of 6 doing AYCE. With covid they had they bar seating closed and every other table open. There is a lot of variety when it came to sushi. Nick is not a fan of shrimp (I know... ) however I got him to try crystal shrimp and he absolutely loved it. I mentioned to the host it was our first time eating here, and if they offered the hamachi Kama?... he asked where do we usually go, (which felt odd) but I told him. He said that some of the sushi guys had came from there to here... hmmm.. he asked the guys if there was any, and the main guy said he'd have to look.... then saw what table we were on and then said yes..(not sure why that would matter)... All of the rolls looked nice in presentation, the slices were good in size , but the rice was way too sticky and hardly any sushi vinegar... the carrots were sliced small but Hard. Had to spit them out. We got the Guapo, salmon skin hand roll, inari and maguro nigiri, and the famous Cr7... and spider roll.. all tasted ok but could have been way better. The hamachi Kama was sardine size and served without any slices of lemon, although served with some other sauce. Had to ask for refills and the dessert menu... we got the tempura banana ice cream which tasted good. I am sure they are doing well as more people entered but it felt Ike something was missing.. normally when you enter a sushi restaurant the greeting is"Irasshaimase" meaning welcome" but nothing even close to that was shouted. Everytime we come here we always have a great experience. Today I noticed they peeled the lemons and I loved that little extra step they took! Sushi always tastes good and the place was clean. Our server was very friendly and he kept our table clean. The only bad thing I guess I could say is the kids prices. Our sushi places charge around 8 each for my 3 and 4 year old but they charged us 22 each which in my opinion is excessive for their age. read more

dinned here with my friend last week. We went during dinner time. We sat at the bar and were greeted by two chefs . I had high expectations since It used to be my favorite when it was hiroba . The remodeled location is nice however the rolls are full of rice and the crystal shrimp is so compressed that it's not even crunchy. The yakiton was good. This place is so pretty and has so much potential. But the rice to fish ratio is awful and feels like a rip off for the price i'm paying since is more expensive than other sushi's . If your gunna price it 33.95 at least let me eat a roll that is not completely made of rice . So many other sushi spots do it better . Save your money read more

Great as always. Service is still less than perfect but on par with every other AYCE sushi in town. The servers are friendly and helpful, everything just takes a while so it's probably a staffing issue. One thing stood out to me this visit: I have been patroning Sushimi's for as long as I can remember, since they were called Hiroba's in the shop next door. What I realized is that the music is something of a time capsule, but not the neat nostalgia inducing kind, more like the disappointing, "why did they bother" kind. If somebody could let the person in charge of the music know that Shawn Mendez, Maroon 5, Imagine Dragons, etc. are seriously not cool anymore I think you would be surprised at the difference in atmosphere. A more modern and sophisticated playlist could make a real difference! Just my 2 cents. In any case, keep doing what you're doing in the food department, this order of calamari was probably the best calamari I've ever had in my life. Thank you to the cook on Tuesday night that left my calamari in the fry for a few extra seconds, that was awesome. The tempura batter they use at Sushimi's is reason enough alone to forget about all the other sushi spots in town that can't seem to figure it out. The orders come out at a good pace so you're not overwhelmed with a huge platter of sushi, but not sitting around waiting for food. Sushi deserves 5 stars! Always fresh and a good selection with big menu. Rolls are filling and big, well made with enough of everything in them. We also appreciate the a la carte menu as a few of our group members have a shellfish allergy so it's great for them to have options as well. Drinks are also AMAZING! The gummy bear vodka and the raspberry bramble are TO DIE FOR with a beautiful bar to sit at and amazing views of the skyline. Food and ambience are 5 stars The service is a different story as we've been here 3 times and have gotten the same waitress every time. Not sure if there's favoritism over regular customers or what's going on there but we receive very dry service from the shorter petite olive skinned waitress with short black hair every time. I was looking forward to another sushi lunch with our regular group this afternoon however all of our group members wanted to avoid the bad service despite the amazing food.
