Great as always. Service is still less than perfect but on par with every other AYCE sushi in town. The servers are friendly and helpful, everything just takes a while so it's probably a staffing issue. One thing stood out to me this visit: I have been patroning Sushimi's for as long as I can remember, since they were called Hiroba's in the shop next door. What I realized is that the music is something of a time capsule, but not the neat nostalgia inducing kind, more like the disappointing, "why did they bother" kind. If somebody could let the person in charge of the music know that Shawn Mendez, Maroon 5, Imagine Dragons, etc. are seriously not cool anymore I think you would be surprised at the difference in atmosphere. A more modern and sophisticated playlist could make a real difference! Just my 2 cents. In any case, keep doing what you're doing in the food department, this order of calamari was probably the best calamari I've ever had in my life. Thank you to the cook on Tuesday night that left my calamari in the fry for a few extra seconds, that was awesome. The tempura batter they use at Sushimi's is reason enough alone to forget about all the other sushi spots in town that can't seem to figure it out. Sushi deserves 5 stars! Always fresh and a good selection with big menu. Rolls are filling and big, well made with enough of everything in them. We also appreciate the a la carte menu as a few of our group members have a shellfish allergy so it's great for them to have options as well. Drinks are also AMAZING! The gummy bear vodka and the raspberry bramble are TO DIE FOR with a beautiful bar to sit at and amazing views of the skyline. Food and ambience are 5 stars The service is a different story as we've been here 3 times and have gotten the same waitress every time. Not sure if there's favoritism over regular customers or what's going on there but we receive very dry service from the shorter petite olive skinned waitress with short black hair every time. When you hear all-you-can eat sushi there is that instant hesitation.. especially when you aren't close to the ocean. This is not buffet style, it is still to order, they just serve slightly smaller portions. The quality and taste of every single thing was INSANE! Sat at the bar and met our sushi chef, Mackario. Very friendly, patient, and quick-executing rolls that tasted and looked like FOOD ART. Baked muscles and yellowtail were my favorite this round. May drive to Reno next time I'm craving sushi. Looks like The former Hiroba location is getting a little bit of a remodel. I ended up checking this place out after I heard Hiroba moved to Sparks and this location changed names. I haven't been to Hiroba in a few years mainly due to all the new places popping up that were more convenient for me to visit. But upon visiting here brought me back to the same vibe and experience I remember. The venue itself has always been packed every time I have visited that location. I don't mind it since they usually have plenty chefs to handle the workload. And this was no exception, our rolls showed up within a couple minutes of ordering them. The waitstaff was a little hectic and it took a little longer for drinks but they were apologetic and had a good attitude. As far as the sushi goes, everything seemed fresh and tasted great. The menu is pretty simple and not an overwhelming amount of choices. I will say you need to bring glasses if you can't read small print very well. The wording on the menu is pretty tiny. The sushi chefs here were very pro whipping up some rolls if I just gave them what kind of fish I wanted on the roll. I always love that.... sushi is an art, it always bums me out when sushi chefs are apprehensive to make anything that's not listed on the menu. Close to the end of our sushi party the manager came over because he recognized us from his previous job and gave us a bottle of sparking sake to share. The location and views are awesome here but the food and service is horrible. The appetizers tasted like they were cooked hours ago then thrown in the microwave to re heat when ordered. The staff were extremely short and only came by once over the 2 HOURS it took to get our food, eat, wait for the check, then finally leave (there were only 2 of us in the party). Since the pandemic it seems to have lost a bit of it's good quality and reservations are required so be aware! AYCE sushi is a Reno staple and we're so spoiled to have so many great sushi joints. However, Sushimi's might have just become my favorite of them all. Previously known as Hiroba, Sushimi's has definitely upgraded. My friend and I came in for dinner and it wasn't busy so we were seated right away. It did start packing up shorty after though so make sure to come early to avoid waiting. Their menu has a lot of options to choose from so come hungry! All the sushi rolls were delicious! You could tell all the ingredients were fresh and the rice to fish ratio was spot on. My favorite was the guapo roll. The appetizers and dessert were great as well. I definitely recommend the brownie a la mode! Perfect combination of a warm brownie topped with cold vanilla ice cream and caramel drizzle. Two things that really stood out to me was their use of paper straws and how great the service is. Turns out my friend and I came in at exactly 3:59 pm, one minute before their lunch ends and they gave us the lunch price even though we were expecting to pay for dinner. How awesome is that? I wasn't sure what to expect coming in as I know this used to be Hiroba, which has since changed location and ownership. However, I'm so glad we gave this place a stop, as it was some of the best sushi I've had in a while! The fish was fresh and the service was super fast and efficient. I really enjoyed their many offerings when it came to dessert and highly recommend the brownie! It was warm, soft and paired perfectly with the ice cream. Also, their use of paper straws was also a plus and shows that they care about reducing unnecessary waste. I would like to start by saying my first sushi love will always be Tha Joint in Sparks. Quality sush, service and staff. This was my first visit to the "new" Sushimi (since turning over from Hiroba). I liked Hiroba before, but our experience tonight was AWESOME! The rolls are smaller in size, which makes it easier to eat AND order more. We were not disappointed with a single roll. I was impressed with presentation, variety and taste. The place was packed and jamming. We sat at the bar admiring how well and quickly the team works together. I even asked for things I saw on Yelp that weren't on the menu and Miguel was happy to accommodate. Miguel also has a very talented memory. He would take custom orders from us and our neighbors at the bar and remember them with ease! Wow! We'll definitely return! read more

One of my top sushi places in Reno! They normally don't have a wait, which I appreciate because my other favorite, Tokyo Sushi, always had a ridiculous wait. They have many choices for appetizers when ordering all you can eat sushi, my favorites being the baked mussels, gyoza, and yakiton. Their miso soup is super tasty too. They have a full bar and their cantaritos are great! I usually let my boyfriend order nigiri for us and their unagi, upside down shrimp, Mickey and Donald are all great. They have an awesome selection of cooked and raw rolls, as well as some unique rolls with fruit. AYCE comes with a dessert, and while they don't have mochi ice cream, their green tea ice cream is amazing! It's not prescooped and frozen solid, which is much appreciated. Their brownie ice cream comes with a brownie probably the size of a dollar coin, so I'd skip that choice. Sushimi's is on the pricier side of AYCE sushi, their lunch is around $27 and dinner I think is $30+. I don't usually have the biggest appetite so sometimes it doesn't feel worth it to me, but their sushi is so fresh and their staff is great! read more

I struggled with this review, mainly between whether to give 3 stars or 4. I decided on 3, because after some careful debate within my head, I decided that the reason why this experience didn't cut it for me was a pretty big reason at an establishment where you eat -- and then are denied the right to eat. Yes. No joke. It all started this past Saturday, when a gf invited me out to lunch. Seeing as how Sushimi is right across the street from her, she offered to buy if I fly -- I live clear in East Sparks. Anywho, so as I am coming up McCarran, I text my pal and ask her to begin ordering a unagi and a Dragon. They don't have Dragons; however, I tried to throw out the most generic sushi roll that majority of establishments serve. Truthfully, I like it all. So, I get there and sit down at a table in an atypical type Sushi place; they have a bar, and tables/booths -- and a combination of the two -- lining the perimeter of what looks to be a small-medium sized place, for sushi place standards. It takes my friend to wave down a waitress and ask her if I can get an ordering slip. The waitress obliges and hands me the order form and the appetizer form. I start off with simple muscles, a Unagi nigiri -- which, mind you, you're only allowed ONE per customer. ONE! -- we'll get back to this later. I also order two more long rolls and then put my slips and pencil down. When the waitress comes back by to grab a plate from my friend, I beckon to her that I'm done and I try to hand her my order forms. This is where it gets good. She flat out states "You can't order food until all of this *does the Mr. Miagi wax-on, wax-off motion* is practically gone." I'm dumbfounded. I'm still trying to rationalize in my head why an establishment that I've heard such good things about a.) only serve one Unagi nigiri per customer and b.) now won't even let me order. Mind you, my friend only had ordered for HER. She got me one roll that closely resembled a dragon (I think it was a Black Dragon, or something to that effect) and one Unagi nigiri -- yes, she ordered her ONE for me -- and that was it. I'm hungry! And my friend only has her appetizers and her 1 or 2 rolls in front of her. I am so shocked by it and don't want my friend to feel bad even more so than she already does, that I'm just like "oh. Okay. Cool." So, we sit. Approximately 15-20 minutes. We sit there and talk and catch up and my friend eats. I drink my water. Like, it's freakin awkward. I'm hungry. She's feeling uncomfortable and like an asshole because she gets to eat and I don't. The waitress is zipping by never asking how we're doing (I could have told her exactly how I was doing), just tending to other customers and giving them all the rolls they could want -- or so I envision. Another gentleman keeps zipping by, as well. He seems to maybe own or manage the place, as from my peripheral vision, I see him looking down, observing, assessing, etc. I am pretty sure he saw that my order forms were still there, practically hanging off the table begging someone to pick them up. A minute later, Miss Rude Ass Long Ass hair comes back by and swipes the order forms. I say swipe, because she literally walks up, just enough to be in reaching distance of the table, and brings her hand down quickly, with one leg still behind her to quickly pivot back to the bar where she came from. She did it in such a quick, swipey motion like she just jacked me for my wallet or something. I finally get my appetizers and rolls and all was good. It was delicious, but the damn service really put a damper on my whole experience. I have no idea why she decided to be rude, or at the very least, have such a rude delivery if, indeed, this is a weird policy of theirs -- not to allow someone to order food that showed up late to meet with the rest of their party. I have NEVER had someone limit me on my Nigiri, either. Especially not Unagi. That was weird. I will say, that I did notice they have more rolls that incorporate Unagi, if it's your thing too. But, still. Why only 1 per customer??? With that experience, I'm not sure why people rave about this place. read more

Sushimi's is my new favorite sushi place in Reno. They have so many fun little sushi items here like the jalapeno popper, and the volcano. It was a little weird that they didnt open until noon on Monday. There ends up being a line outside then a major backup behind the bar while the chefs try to cope with everyones order coming in at the same time. This made lunch take a really long time as the food came out in bunches with long gaps between those bunches. Price is similar to every other place in town. Service was friendly but again it was really slow due to the noon opening time. I would suggest avoiding showing up at noon on Monday if you are really hungry or in a hurry. read more

Very underwhelmed! Service was friendly and good especially considering that the restaurant was full by 6 pm on a Thursday night. Dishes were cleared, water was refilled when asked, and extra ginger provided. But, the food was really lacking, and when you're paying $100 for a meal for a family of four, it should be really good! None of the rolls were memorable or even tasty. One of them came out super fast and the rice tasted old and hard. I wonder if it had been sitting around. I think we got an extra roll that we didn't order. The best thing was probably the nigiri. I didn't have any of the raw fish so I can't attest to its freshness, but the eel nigiri was good. This is tough to write, The last time we visited, I and my two teens ordered all you can eat lunch. The quality of food seems to be going down. I started to notice after the ownership and name change, but I gave it a few chances. The service was still good with refills of drinks, happy helpful chefs and staff, and somewhat speedy delivery of the sushi. What turned me off, in addition to the lower quality throughout most the meal, was the last roll we ordered was a bit ammonia, and fishy smelling and one bite told the story. Luckily I did not get sick due to stopping after the first bite and not swallowing. My daughter did get a bite down before we noticed and did not feel well. I just can't bring myself to go back. I know All You Can Eat is a Reno institution, but maybe I have finally leaned my lesson. More is not better, quality is worth the price. One more side note, the cucumber salad even seems old and wilted. I don't like posting things like this but It had to be said. I have had better luck buying my own ingredients lately and making the sushi at home. I purchased a sushi Bazooka a few years ago. Sometimes, I use the poke from costco, to make salmon and tuna rolls, sometimes I buy tempura shrimp to make SF rolls. I cut all the veggies thin, make or buy all the sauces required and have all the sides ready. It is a ton of work, but I know the quality of what I am putting in the roll. See the AYCE menu for: 1) appetizers checklist 2) sushi checklist (front and back) 3) dessert checklist Our party of 6 came to conquer Sushimi's AYCE on a FRI night. We were promptly seated and presented a checklist for appetizers and another for sushi options. APPETIZERS: + We enjoyed most the crunchy Calamari and mini Mussels with tangy sauce - I had a cup of miso soup which had no seaweed or tofu. Rats! - None of us enjoyed the overcooked Spicy Chicken Skewers or the Chicken Katsu Skewers. These were dry and hard, like morsels of chicken jerky pre-dipped in sauce SUSHI Then came the sushi items. There is where our culinary adventure diverged: A. RAW SEAFOOD LOVER (Me!) I'm Taiwanese (an Asian islander!) and love raw seafood. Unfortunately, the AYCE menus all lacked sashimi. Nigiri, rolls or hand rolls are your rice filled options. I'm sure this is how the restaurant tries to make an honest dollar. Perhaps there were a couple things that arrive on a cucumber (per Yelp photos) but I didn't come across them. Here are my favorites: + My favorite was the Spider Roll (aka Soft Shell Crab) hand roll. I ordered a second one and the wrong sauce was applied, much to my disappointment :/ + My second favorite were the Ikura / Salmon Roe. I alone ate 3 orders of this. Portions of roe per bite were skimpy and too cold - perhaps these are not as often ordered and so kept in the fridge? When the roe came to room temperature, the saltiness and creaminess returned, making for excellent bites! I regretted not ordering 3 more! + My third favorite was the Unagi / eel roll. One order per customer. Thankfully all my 5 dining partners let me gobble their orders. + Seasonal Uni was another where the restaurant only allows 1 order per customer. Again, the uni was served too cold and had to come to temperature on my plate. My 5 dining partners let me gobble their orders. FAMILY & FRIENDS My in-laws and their friends enjoyed a completely different menu. Also, I despise mayonnaise and imitation crab plus I think cream cheese is for bagels, so many many of the restaurant's rolls are not great to me. + Quail egg shooter - Our friends love these. These were in the same sheet and got us confused for sure! - Dessert items are limited to one per customer and all are rather tiny. The mochi options only come with ONE small ball. The brownie a la mode comes in a small cup. The scoops of ice cream are slightly larger portions, in case you're a sweet hound like me! This place was packed with folks constantly waiting to be seated - no surprise as the price point is low for AYCE and, while there were some issues with quality control - the positives outweigh the negatives. Decent menu:some traditional items and some unique ones that give it a fun twist after trying many sushi places in Reno. Free sake with all-you-can-eat is always a plus, especially when it's a large bottle! The appetizers were good, although I was disappointed that the chicken skewers were not available the night I went. I really wanted to try them, but next time! The jalapeno poppers were tasty and not what I was expecting. They come out as rice topped with cream cheese, jalapenos and something else I can't quite remember. The yakiton wasn't a hit for me. My party struggled to finish it, as it tasted overcooked. However, we ordered various rolls that all came out delicious, and I enjoyed the presentation with flowers. There's a nice variety of vegetarian rolls, and I enjoyed my purple leaf hand roll. The addition of lemon gives it a bright burst of flavor, making me feel like I was being healthy despite all the other food I consumed. The dessert menu is larger than any other sushi place I've tried, with daily chef specials in addition. Since a couple of my friends didn't want dessert, I took advantage to try a few. Every time I've eaten here the food has been great, the food isn't the reason for a 2 star review. The service. Service started out good but about have way through it started taking longer and longer to get our orders. We only put in two paper orders and there were two adults and a child. It's not like we ordered a ton of food. We never got out last two rolls and yes, we did ask about it but they never came. I don't think the waitress ever checked on the order honestly. They weren't that busy and there was 4 sushi chefs and 3 wait staff. It felt like we were cut off from our AYCE almost. Really sad experience from what I'm used to at this establishment. read more

Went to Sushimi's over the weekend for a birthday! I used to come here pre-covid and it was good-- but the place is small and you couldn't make reservations on the weekends. Good sushi and friendly staff but the last two times I've gone to pick up take out I have spent $60 and left a great tip only for them to refuse to give me more than 2 tiny servings of soy sauce for 8 rolls. Both times kindly asked for a couple extra and literally felt like I was stealing from them the way they treated me. Won't be coming back for takeout here. I'll go back when they Covid is easing up. We're from out of town, and we were really excited to try this new place! I grew up in Reno eating all you can eat and we look forward to eating sushi when we're in town. We decided we were hungry but not hungry enough to do all you can eat, so we decided to order a la carte. We ordered 10 pieces of Nigiri and two sushi rolls to split between two people. The Nigiri came out at half the size of a normal piece of Nigiri. We have eaten a lot of sushi in our lives. We have eaten a lot of sushi in Reno. We have eaten at almost every all you can eat spot in Reno. We have we have done it all, and this was the most laughable piece of Nigiri sushi you could ever imagine! Like a teaspoon of rice and a quarter size of fish. We were so hungry, we just started digging in and even though we were commenting on how tiny the pieces were, we figured maybe with inflation costs sizes have gone down? But then we watched ( we were at the bar) all you can eat orders come out twice the size of the food that we had ordered a la carte. This was insulting and very frustrating considering we were paying full prices for the pieces that we were ordering, nearly six dollars for two pieces of Nigiri. I went here when they first opened and I wasn't the biggest fan. It was good, but not my favorite. Fast forward to now and they stepped up their game!! Wanted to order drinks with my order, took forever for server to go to my table to take drink order then didn't come again till roughly an hour later (was gonna order more drinks but changed my mind after server took so long) food also came before appetizer? this place used to be the go to place for sushi in Reno. This is our "go to" for date nights or a girl's night. With the unlimited sushi and one free sake per person special, it pushes this sushi spot straight to the top for me! The sushi always tastes great, super fresh and prepared quickly. The restaurant is slightly small but feels warm and inviting. I've never waited longer than 30min for a table without a reservation. I came here first thing on a Saturday, and was one of the first customers there. I came hungry, excited, and ready to eat a massive amount of ACYE sushi. Although I left with more than enough sushi in my belly, Sushimi's service and quality was just adequate. First of all, even though we were almost the only ones there for at least an hour, the service was sooo slow. We had to wait 20 minutes for even just our appetizers - and that only consists of ladling out some miso soup and scooping seaweed salad into a bowl. Each sushi order took about 20 minutes to make, even if it was just two rolls. I understand sushi takes time to craft, but when there are only 1-2 tables being served in the whole restaurant, I can't imagine what it's like when the place is busy. Still, the waitstaff was very nice and accommodating, and I have nothing against them. Secondly, the quality of the sushi and the size of the rolls were just okay. The freshness of the fish seemed to vary - our first round of salmon nigri was thin and tasteless, while the second round was absolutely delicious and buttery. I would appreciate having more consistent cuts of fish. The size of the rolls were very small, and one could definitely eat a whole roll and still be starving. This isn't so much of a problem with AYCE, but if the rolls are the same size for ala carte, this might be something to keep in mind. All in all, Sushimi's is an okay venue for sushi, and the staff are friendly and accomodating. I do miss the old sushi, as I think the old Hiroba was better, but perhaps I just came on an off day to Sushimi's. read more

This place is located quite close to my home. With that being said, we have eaten here more than a handful of times now and almost every experience has been perfect. The service is great between the hosts/waiters and sushi chefs and the all you can eat has always proven to be a fantastic deal. AYCE for lunch is $18.99 I believe and it is $24.99 for dinner. They also offer free sake with AYCE dinner Sunday through Thursday nights. They recently updated their menu and added quite a few things, including appetizers. We typically sit at the counter and can throw multiple orders at them upon sitting. They have no problem remembering everything and serving it with a smile. I can only think of one time that I thought the salmon tasted a little too fishy. I assume they were getting in a new order the next day. Other than that, my boyfriend and I have dined here by ourselves and with a sizeable group of visiting family. Every time we leave quite happy with our decision to dine here. I'm sure we will dine here another couple of times before moving across town and will likely come back to the area to get our sushi fix in the future. I've been to at least 10 sushi places in Reno (including Hiroba when it was where Sushimi's is now). Not sure why I hadn't been to Sushimi's before now since it is the closest sushi place to my house. We've been very selective in goIng out for takeout during this pandemic, but have allowed ourself takeout once a week. We've been in sushi withdrawals for over 7 weeks now, so I looked at our takeout options online. We normally get AYCE and the prices are all fairly similar in town, but it was different ordering a la carte, so I shopped around. Sushimi's has a good selection of rolls. Between my wife, 2 teenage daughters, and myself, we have a wide range of tastes in sushi, but we were all very happy with our rolls - lots of fresh raw fish for me, mostly cooked rolls for my wife, and some basics for my daughters who are still not totally adventurous yet. The rolls didn't have too much rice, had fresh tasting fish, and great sauces. The ordering the through the link to Doordash from Sushimi's website was convenient. I chose to pick it up to save on fees and tip since it is very close to our house. The order was prepaid online and was ready when I got there - seriously 1min flat in the restaurant for pickup. I'll have to come back for AYCE, appetizers, and nigiri (we stuck just with rolls for the takeout out order), and to see how the service is once it's open again for dine-in. All-in-all, Sushimi's hit the spot for a sushi fix during these crazy times! read more
