I don't often go out on food adventures in the Roseville area, but when I do, sushi is my top choice of cuisine. My friend and I were meeting for a catch up session, and she took me to her go-to sushi restaurant Sushimono. We were immediately seated and chose to chill on the outdoor patio. It was cool outside but nice with the heaters. Interesting that their menu is in the form of a Monopoly board. I couldn't quite understand why, but it was cute. The Sunrise Roll caught my eye, which contains spicy scallop, crab, sea steak, avocado, ebi, masago, and onion. How does that NOT sound good?! The roll was decently priced and reasonably sized. Just the perfect amount of food for lunch. We also polished off our meal with some tempura ice cream, which was huge! Definitely more than enough for two people, but it was super satisfying. The whole restaurant experience was seamless. I could see why my friend and her family have become regulars here. If I lived in the area, I probably would be, too! read more

The only reason I'm giving this 2 stars is because our waitress gave us really nice service. Me and my partner decided to try this place. The place was just kind of unkept and unclean with visible mildew and rot. We ordered vegetable tempura, the 911, the popcorn lobster, the ninja, and the dragon rolls. The tempura had raw batter and the vegetables were undercooked. The food just went down hill from there. I was under the impression the 911 was stuffed jalapeño peppers with crab. The were poblano, and were oddly sweet. The actual rolls were just... very weird. The ones with just crab and shrimp and lobster tasted really fishy and off. Things didn't taste fresh and everything was so squishy and soft. It was very very off putting. Me and my fiancé are now home feeling sick. I strongly recommend skipping this one. read more

Have to agree with fellow Yelper Lydia K about the whole 50% off gimmick. I've noticed that other spots do this as well. I say, just price things that they should be and offer a buy-one-get-one free coupon for a limited time. It would endear me to return again knowing that I would have to pay full price. Located in the spot of the former Carmita (sorry to see them go), there is outdoor seating which is a great addition. They are also open late and have a happy hour special after 8:00 pm, any beer is $2 if you spend $10 on food. I ordered rainbow roll - which is not on the menu, but you can request it. I think it was $16 or so, but then you get the 50% off, so it's $8. Personally, I found it a little lacking size-wise, but the fish was fresh. I would not pay $16 for it normally though. They also have bento boxes for $16 and at $8, I found that to be a good deal. I had the pork katsu, it was a little tough and extra crispy. The tempura was okay. It is difficult to do tempura broccoli as it tends to be mushy and this was no exception. Ambiance-wise, if you're like me and clueless about the "latest hits" you can catch up on all your Top 40 tunes here. It was nonstop and loud. There are tables throughout and a flatscreen TV, but I forgot what was on the TV. Service was attentive and efficient. Our food was running a bit behind and they gave us a complimentary dish of edamame which was a nice touch. I could see myself returning here and getting the bento boxes, which tend to fill you up more for the same price as a sushi roll AND you still get California roll. read more

Sushimono has great sushi. The best time I have found to go is during the happy hour where you buy 2 get 1 free. I like the ease of their menu kinda feels like a monopoly board. I will say it is kinda of a budget friendly sushi place so it is affordable to take your family. When I say budget tho I mean it is good quality, never had an issue, and service is pretty quick. I'm kinda getting tired of the gimmicky sushi discounts... This place has 50% off the entire menu which is nice but then the prices are jacked up and the rolls are on the smallish size... I admit I might order a bit more knowing it is half price but I feel a little bit deceived by the gimmick. One of my faves is Tokyo Express in Rocklin and his rolls are just plain inexpensive and it is a nice break from having to do the math. On that note I did like the food. We ordered three rolls and the BBQ albacore. The sauce on the BBQ albacore was my least favorite of any BBQ I have had before. It was missing the kick I am used to. The rolls were good but average. The fish tasted fresh so that is good. We spent $30 for 2 cups of hot tea, 3 rolls and BBQ albacore (4 thin sliced pieces). If I was in the area I would go back for another try but would not go out of my way for another visit. OH and the service was very good at the lunch hour on a Saturday at the sushi bar. read more

I love sushi and I crave it often. However, I'm usually skeptical about trying a sushi place in the Sac area. Hubs and I were STARVING and we wanted something fresh, not too expensive, and new. I found Sushimono on Yelp and thought we could give it a try. The 50% off rolls seemed appealing. This place is somewhat small, and upon first walking in it was mucky. Also we stood there awkwardly for a while until someone finally noticed us. When we finally got a table we were pleasantly surprised that we made it for happy hour. Buy 2 get 1 free rolls! Wow. Since we were so hungry we ordered 6 rolls. Err, our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. Here's what we ordered: JAMES DEAN LEMON TREE ORANGE TREE PINEAPPLE TREE MANGO SUNSHINE MYSTERY ROLL They were ALL good and so delicious. My favorite was the Jame Dean roll. For the mystery roll you pick out of a bowl. We got the Wild Fire which was pretty cool but quite spicy. I did not get sick and I didn't have any problems with the food. My first time eating here. If you live in the area it's in a great location; however I think they'd be better off in downtown. They have adequate parking. The inside is somewhat small but you can make it work, and they have seating at tables or at the bar. The establishment is clean as well. I've eaten my fair shart of sushi and I'd say this is the best I've ever had! It's quite the drive for me but it's worth it every now and then. They have a lemon tree and orange tree roll that's amazing! The fire roll is very good as well. The wait staff was very nice and attentive. Overall great experience here. Sushimono is in my hood, has half-price rolls (always brings me in), and has great lunch specials (which I now know about). This brought me in one weekday for lunch after class. I was greeted immediately and seated at the sushi bar counter. Since I was alone and planning to do a bunch of reading, this was fine with me. I knew they had half-price sushi, so I checked out the menu and ordered a couple. My rolls came out quickly. Like all half-price sushi places, they were pretty small, but I'm okay with that because I like to try a few different options. They were tasty and looked good. Can't say they were the best sushi rolls I've ever had, but I enjoyed them. My only real problem is that I HATE their Masago! It's like pure mayonnaise and it was broken on all of my rolls- not appetizing. So in the future, I will order my rolls without it when I'm here. The one thing I wish I'd known going in is that they have a lunch happy hour!! This would've been great news in advance. There are little tents on the tables but mine was turned the opposite way and I didn't think to turn it around until later in my meal. GREAT lunch specials like $2 gyoza or edamame, $4 calamari or veggie tempura, and three different rolls for $3. Even $2 small beers!! This is M-F noon-4, so I will definitely be back during those hours to check out their great HH menu, and I advise you do the same. Overall I enjoyed my meal and walked out having three rolls and a drink for about $20. Not exactly a cheap lunch, but I indulged and ordered a bunch and took some home. Sushimono is a great place to stop in when you want something relatively inexpensive but close to home. Not a big place, so I'd advise against it if you have a large group (see my review of Arigato!), but totally worth it for a quick and easy dinner that's better than fast food any day of the week. What Can I Get For 4 Bucks??: While there are a few sushi rolls that are $4 all the time, for the biggest bang of your $4, I say go during weekday lunch. You can get a beer AND some gyoza, or fried calamari, veggie tempura, the King Roll, the Dori Roll, or a Spicy Tuna Hand Roll. Not bad choices for a $4 budget! read more

Food - mediocre. I prefer other sushi places. I meant the bento box price was a bargain for dinner but the food didn't hit the spot for me. Bento box- the salmon was pretty thin and doesn't taste as fresh compared to the usual I get at other sushi spots; the teriyaki chicken was dry and had to really get in there with the teriyaki sauce. Gyozas were good - thank god and the sauce it came with worked perfectly. No sushi spots should ever go wrong with this! We ordered other sushi rolls and tasted mediocre. Service- male server was friendly and quick. Food came out in decent time for dinner. Interior- clean; small space but has a patio that they converted as a part of the restaurant. It really isn't a regular patio that's left wide open. There were glass windows partially covered and heaters on the ceiling, which was a plus. read more

I'm a regular here and wouldn't go anywhere else for that. The service is quick, accurate and they will basically make what you ask. If you want any adjustments on the rolls they accommodate you very easily. The food is excellently prepared right in front of you. Guaranteed fresh and made to order. You can't beat their everyday late night anytime after 7pm buy two get one free rolls. I have tried almost every roll and have not come across a bad one ever. After five years, I still frequent Sushimono and get my sushi on at least once a month. They've become one of my favorite sushi establishments in Sacramento. My favorite rolls would have to be the spicy crispy, popcorn lobster, fire fire, mango sunshine and mozzarella. Their inari is some of the best I've ever had-perfectly marinated, not dry and yummy! Yuriel is my favorite sushi chef. Whether its to go or dining at the bar I'm always very happy and so is my tummy. You guys are awesome! P.S. I've seen some of the fussy reviews. If you want top notch service, don't come during busy times. If you don't want soggy rolls, don't have it delivered. This place is not suitable for parties over 4. Sure, they could put tables together but it's such a small place that the chances of getting tables together that aren't occupied is a slight chance. Music: Somebody's R&B MP3s With a yelp check-in, you can get a free edamame or gyoza appetizer. We opted for edamame. The edamame was super cold. The menu is cute. When you open it up, part of it looks like a game board. Why? I don't know. The sushi we had was decent. Our server was disheveled and a little off but nice.. Didn't get our order right but nice. And the weird thing is she repeated it back to us after taking our order. Nice place pretty , clean, 50% off menu. That's the good. The BAD : Asked for 2 pieces nigiri of tuna, white tuna and salmon. After a debate from the waitress to the person making the nigiri I got two of salmon, but four pieces of white tuna. I didn't complain because it was mothers day and didn't feel like it. The nigiri did not have any wasabi on the underside of the fish. The rice had the MSG taste had me licking my lips over and over again and drinking soda. The togo plate for the kids was salmon teriyaki. Roast marks a plus, But they forgot to clean the fish. Is it so hard to scale salmon? You can take a hi pressure hose an the scales come off. Really??? or even a knife. not hard to do. Better places to spend your money. read more

I tried this place with my friend who comes here regularly and was very impressed. Not because of the food, but because the prices are unable to beat. They have several rolls to choose from, and all are half off. The food tastes amazing and I recommended the "Spicy Cripsy" or "James dean" rolls. By far are the best I've had so far. also really like the atmosphere and the buy 2 get 1 free happy hour deal. The only reason I give three instead of higher is because they do give you can soda instead of fountain drinks so refills raise the price. And also although they have a huge roll selection, almost majority have shrimp tempura in them. Which I love but not every rolls needs that. Other than that you'll love this place! read more

I was having trouble finding a local Japanese restaurant that serves sushi and ramen. I finally came across Sushimono. We got the Mango Sunshine Roll, & Lemon Tree Roll as well as 2 spicy pork ramens. It was a lot of food for 3 people (1 is a toddler), but somehow we managed. My toddler put it away! The only thing lacking was I wish the ramen came with a pickled egg, but even without it was delicious. Great broth! The mango roll is probably better in summer but even in the middle of winter it was great. The prices were reasonable and I was super satisfied. Will be coming back. read more

Unfortunately unhappy with the service I received the last time I visited. When I arrived, server asked if I wanted to sit inside or on the patio. I said I'd like to sit inside, and then he said he would have to wipe off a table first, so he was going to just sit us outside. Weird to offer me an option if I can't even make the decision, but I was able to brush that off. Next, both my friend and I order food at the same time. He ordered a roll and I ordered a bento box. The roll came out instantly, but I did not receive my food until 15-20 minutes after. By that time, my friend had finished his meal. My food was not even warm either, and they didn't even serve with miso soup as they typically should. It wasn't super busy that night so it didn't make much sense to me. If it's busy, I can understand being flustered, backed up, or forgetful. I'll come back again but I am skeptical of how I feel about this restaurant at the moment. read more

Just moved to the area from Chicago which has great sushi places. I was reluctant to try this place because of bad reviews on customer service, but its so close by I had to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised at how warm and attentive the staff was to our needs. The sushi was off the chain and came quickly too! It was fairly busy at 5:30 Friday night when we got there. My hubby got the beef teriyaki bento box, while I ordered a James Dean roll and lobster crunch roll from the unique menu with amazing 1/2 off prices! This sounds like a mundane observation, but their tempura batter and rice was perfectly cooked and tasted great. Will def be back to sample the rest of their specialty rolls! The restaurant itself is smaller with a small covered patio area. It's not the fanciest place, but it's also not a dump. Not sure what it's like when it's busy, but they do offer take out! We've sat outside the few times we've gone, and it's been fast service and the sushi is pretty good for the cost. read more
