My family and I are local and we come here at least once a month. Andy and his wife Sophie (the owners) are so friendly and welcoming every time. They have the best stories to tell so try sitting at the sushi bar, it's a great time! The service is always impeccable and I've never waited a long time. The place is tiny so get there in enough time to give yourself the experience you want wait-wise. Now let's talk about the sushi... the sushi is the best in town for many reasons. The freshness of the fish never wavers certainly, but the creativity of the rolls is what keeps us coming back. The specialty rolls vary seasonally so even for us we always have something new to try. Try the volcano roll if you're feeling frisky and unhealthy (it's amazing omg) or the Danny or Tarzan roll with baked crab salad on top!!! My parents love the So Fresh So Clean and then the sashimi platter. I know this sounds boring considering their options but the chicken bento box is AMAZING too! I have heard very good things about this restaurant, as I am not a local, however the treatment of our party was awful. Completely awful. Tried to get a large table for 11, they refused. We then tried to split our parties, 5 and 6. The waitress spit up an attitude, and refused us a table. The owner behind the bar then started saying "adios! Adios!" After that, the locals inside began to clap as we walked out. Afterwards, a member of our party went inside and asked for a table for 1, and the waitress treated him the same way- very VERY rude and disrespectful towards their customers. read more

Sushi moto is a family owned restaurant that has a great selection of sushi and other Japanese entrees. They will even make you items that are not on the menu. All you have to do is ask. Everything we have eaten here is good. Service is very friendly and prompt. Andy, the owner, personally greeted us and then went back to his sushi chef duties. He made sure to engage his customers and make them feel welcome. We live almost 40 minutes away but gladly drive out to get this fresh and delicious sushi and friendly service. I love this is place. My husband and I MUST visit when we are visiting our home town. Andy is an amazing and talented sushi chef, and he is always glowing with positivity. I have friends that love this place. It must be the sushi, because the other is awful. The 1st time I went I got the tempura lunch. Lots of rice and a couple of vegetables (maybe 4?). It wasn't very good and when I got the bill, they had charged me the dinner price instead of the lunch price. It wasn't even worth the lunch price, although they did fix the price. Got talked into going there again (same friends). I ordered tempura again knowing I wouldn't get my monies worth, but sometimes friends are worth it. This time was worse! Larger portion, but inedible. They soaked the bottom of the plate in soy sauce instead of putting it on the side. All of the tempura was soaked and all the tempura fell off when you picked it up. So much for a tempura lunch. I pointed it out to them and they refused to do anything about it. Last chance, will never go there again. read more

Then we walked in to ask how long and the lady walked over to a table and said "Are y'all done yet?" And it was an awkward moment because they said yes and asked for the check. I was on a family vacation in Destin and heard good things about this place so we decided to try. We came in as a group of 4 and asked about seating for 8, as the other 4 were on their way but not with us when we walked in. The hostess told us about their policy where groups of 8 have to spend $30 a piece. We told her our group included a 5 & 2 year old and she still insisted that is considered a party of 8! And they include a minimum price for the kids... which I think is just ridiculous. So I asked her if we could just be seated as 4 since we were there and the other 4 could eat on their own whenever they arrived. She said no because that would be against policy, but A) all but 1 of the tables in the restaurant were empty at the time and B) we could have just done that if we had known before we walked in! I thought they were just super rude and unaccommodating. I understand that the restaurant is small and they need rules but we could have easily eaten and left before many other people showed up. We just left because it wasn't worth trying to deal with them after that. read more

There are very few reasons for me to write an emotional Yelp review. Review my history and there is nothing short of unbiased journalism. Most get 5 stars. I walked in with my sister. We had to take an uber here because our trolley from sandestin wouldn't go here. So, this was a destination. We walked in.. And the hostess said to us "how many" I said 2. She says "it will be 20 minutes" there was an open table for two directly behind her with a bunch of people who clearly heard there was good sushi here looking at us from the bar and tables. Oh.. Did I mention the open table for 2 staring at us? We asked her if we could stay inside while we waited. (We're in Florida, it's 90 degrees, we asked very politely) the moment she responded "No, here are the menus, please stand outside" we immediately just left because how rude is that? And walked to melting pot, because our uber left. Also.. Told Mike (our fantastic waiter at melting pot) our story and he said that apparently they treated him the exact same way for lunch. Except it was a different person, which is worse. So, long story short. Have a back up plan, don't come here before melting pot is open unless you plan on driving or you really want melting pot. My husband and I came to Destin on our honeymoon and since we love sushi, we had to try this place based on the good reviews. We got the calamari as our appetizer, and although the portion is small, it's the best I've ever had. The batter is light and crispy and the sweet and spicy sauce is so delicious. It is served with cucumber slices to cool the palate. I wish we had each gotten our own order. We tried two rolls that we get back home, the salmon avocado roll, and the spider roll. Both were outstanding and the best I've had yet. He ordered the surf and turf roll and it was his favorite. We went on a Monday for dinner and we are going back again on Thursday for lunch before we have to go back home. This is by far the best sushi restaurant I have ever visited. I could leave it at the food alone and it would ring true but there's more than that. The staff are awesome across the board. Andy was so welcoming and Brandon was very attentive as a waiter even though I was a tourist coming for the first time. I spent a couple of days going to Sushimoto and hanging out at the bar, getting to know Andy a bit more and I can tell it's his passion. The restaurant is all family and close family friends and they would never serve you something that they wouldn't eat themselves. Quality is top notch. One of the things that I liked the most was that Andy gets creative and thinks outside the box. The restaurant is a smaller space, more intimate, and they know their customers. I was very impressed by the food quality, creativity and dedication to the customers. It will be the first place I go back to next time I'm in Destin again. If you love heat, ask him if you could try the hot sauce that his wife makes but be warned, it should come with a liability waiver form. I don't think this is on the menu but if he has it, I'm convinced the smoked salmon skin hand roll is Heaven on Earth. read more

Amazing. I just moved to town, and asked around where the best sushi in town was. It was unanimous, and now I know why. Everything I tried was simple, elegant, delicious, beautiful, and expertly prepared. I love bacon, and am so happy there is the baconator, which has a avocado and tuna with the glory of the smoked swine, then covered in fresh krab salad, which is krab, but it the slaw is made to order in front of you if your at the bar ad I was. The quality of the fish was impeccable, and was lucky enough to hear Andy talk about how good his hamachi was, so I tried it and couldn't agree more. After I mentioned I cook, he had me try the ceviche which isn't on the menu, but is amazing, I've tasted ceviche all over the world, and this was so simple but some of the purest most perfect flavors I have ever experienced. I tried the Damn Good roll which isn't on the menu either, which seems to be a trend. There's an amazing menu, and tons of gems that are available only if you ask. The damn good roll was not my style, as it was a creamy mayonnaise concoction that was then torched. It was delicious, just not for me personally. Chef Andy is super friendly and really is doing an amazing job up here, I am going to be back at least every week, it's that good. Prices are what you would expect for really good quality fish, but don't think it's overpriced like a lot in the area. read more

Sushi fit the bill and although I was slightly reluctant to visit a strip mall locale I was so glad we took the advice of prior yelp reviewers and stopped by sushimoto. It's a small place and we showed up just the right time about 6:15. Our wait was short and well worth it. The owner was friendly and informative and the food was great (and a good value). Although small the tables are not packed in so you aren't sitting on top of each other. Went there about a month ago so details if what we ate are fuzzy But I know we all left happy! I also read a review from someone saying they got tilapia sashimi which they thought was ridiculous. I would agree that's ridiculous but I didn't even see it on the menu. Must have been an isolated bad experience. My boyfriend and I both liked it a lot and would definitely recommend. Beware the XXX roll is good but SPICY!!
