We wanted to give Sushimoto a try since a bunch of our friends recommend this place for sushi. When you walk in it's a really small with a few tables so you're lucky if you can even get one. We ordered two appetizers; baby octopus and age-dashi tofu, both were just okay. We asked the waiter if they had unadon which is a bowl of rice served with eel on top. The waiter said that he would charge us an extra $10 for that dish making it a $23 dish which we thought was a bit overpriced. So we ordered three different types of sushi instead; crunchy shrimp, eel roll and J.O.J. roll. All three were just okay, nothing special. Absolutely the worst management I have ever had to deal with. Right when we walk in they tell us we cannot eat there unless spending 10 dollars, while we had every intention to purchase more than 10 dollars worth of food and drinks. After that they completely belittled the waiter in front of the entire restaurant for splitting the check when there was 4 different parties with our table and spending 400 dollars between 10 people they treated us terrible. Sadly this was one of our go to restaurants when we came down regularly to Destin. This time noticed signs all over saying be nice or leave and the hostess was very unfriendly. Tried to go in on 2 different nights this visit with the same nasty attitude from the American female hostess. We left and will not be going back next time. read more

I absolutely adore this place. We're visiting from New Orleans and wanted a break from the beach. We were sat immediately and the food came out with great time. I got the chicken teriyaki lunch with miso soup and also got the house salad with ginger dressing. It was all amazing. I usually get pretty disappointed with chicken teriyaki at places but this was light, super flavorful, and had lots of veggies with it. I even had some leftover to enjoy later (yesssss). My boyfriend got the sushi lunch with spicy tuna and the philly roll. He said they were also awesome, since he ate it all before I could try any. We also got the white tuna sushi and it was very clean and yummy. Above everything else, the staff was incredible. I felt like I needed to share this with Yelp as soon as we left because I haven't had service like this in so long. Everyone was having a good time, checked on us frequently, and Andy especially was helpful and funny. There are some imaginative rolls here, and it was pretty good. Overall I wasn't knocked off my feet or anything, but it was solid, and I'd return. I'd recommend sticking to the special rolls, since they were the better ones I had and some of the normal rolls were a bit bland. read more

The sushi here was just OK. There were 4 of us and we got the spider roll, which was not good, this is how we roll was ok, and the volcano roll was very good. The only problem with the volcano roll is that it has some kind of oil, which made me feel greasy. The place is extremely small, but quaint. Many times I have found that the best Sushi is found in strip shopping centers. Once again this proved to be true at Sushimoto. The décor is not overly fancy but Sushimoto is for Sushi Lovers. They have a wide variety of rolls and Sushi & Sashimi Combos. I really liked that they slice their rolls into thin edible slices and the rolls did not fall apart. Too many times I get rolls that have the slices wide cut. Not at Sushimoto. The service was terrific. Our waitress was enthusiastic about the food she served and talked us into Mango Mochi. Went here for the first time last night and it was amazing! Small place but the food is some of the best in Destin (trust me. been coming to destin forever). Waitstaff was very friendly, service was quick. Ordered crunchy tuna roll, spicy tuna and another person at the table ordered the volcano roll which he said was superb. I'm a local and have been loyal to Harbordocks sushi for a long time. I was hesitant to try something different, but I've heard good reviews for Sushi Moto. Inside is small-- only 6 tables plus the sushi bar. So we waited about 20-25 mins for a table. On a Saturday night around 7, that's not too bad. I ordered the spicy tuna and Sweet N Roll, and my boyfriend ordered Spicy Tuna and the Danny roll. Spicy tuna was ok, I wasn't expecting anything spectacular. The Sweet N Roll was pretty good. It was different, it had mango and a good yum yum sauce. The Danny roll was also good quality. Overall, I'm happy we tried something else, but will we go back? Probably not. There are a more and more places in the area to grab some sushi but in my opinion none come close to Sushi Moto. The seafood is so fresh. I also love the mix of traditional rolls and some unique ones that I have only found there which is why it stands out from the rest. My favorite is the cookie Monster roll which is one of their specials. It is an explosion of flavor in your mouth!! It isn't always on the menu but if you ask for it they will make it happily. Awful customer service. Went in on busy Memorial Day weekend. Got in restaurant at 9:30 pm, advertises that they close at 10pm. Has small dining area that is packed, hostess asked me how many in my party. I replied just me, she looks around and says to me "sorry we have no seat available." I reply that I am in no hurry have no problem waiting since I notice a few people at sushi bar finishing up. Hostess says that we are actually closing and can't serve you. I say excuse me? She says we are closing and since there are no seats won't be able to serve you. I tell her I took uber there her establishment is packed, I was in the door at 9:30 and I can't be served? Her reply "sorry." I leave pissed and my great Uber driver Nick picks me up and I tell him what happened. He refers me to VKI for Sushi, calls and they too close at 10 in the door my 9:50pm and they accommodate and the sushi was phenomenal!!! Moral to story...sushimoto customer service sucks!!!
