This is my favorite sushi place! The atmosphere is nice and the staff there is always very welcoming. I absolutely love the prices, it gives you such a bang for your buck. They also always have some sort of discount offered- there's one for following them on social media and there's also a game of some sort you can play to get cheap beer (I don't drink so I am unfamiliar with how it works). I typically get the tuna or salmon sushi and it's made right in front of you by the lovely chefs behind the counter. It's always so yummy and fresh! The fish melts in your mouth!!! I used to get the avocado roll a lot as well, which was always done well- there was only one time that the avocados were a bit underripe... but that was out of like all the avocado rolls I've ever eaten there (a lot!). The service is super fast if it's not busy and moderately fast if it is. I highly recommend eating here! I wanted Japanese for dinner and gave SushiStop a chance. I went to a Uber delivery option. This is more of an affordable sushi spot and with small portions. I have ordered this exact order at other sushi places in Pasadena and the portions were more generous for just a tad bit more in price. Grilled Salmon Collar I'm glad this place has this option because it can be a hit and miss. Great cooked protein option. It was served with some salad greens, a slice of lemon, and sauce. It was so-so with really fatty spot I couldn't eat, some dried parts. The part that was edible were decently made. The serving size was very little. Salmon Roll (4) Smaller size rolls compare to other sushi places and mediocre flavor. Overall, I got Japanese/ sushi for dinner and that was accomplished. I will say the lower prices does reflect the smaller portions so that might be their business strategy to look attractive from a price perspective. There are other sushi options that may be just a bit more but you'll get more to fulfill your tummy. I'd say this is more of a snack size unless you order more in quantity. read more

The place was pretty packed and Pasadena in general was very busy! Waited a few minutes outside for our table since we didn't want to sit at the bar. There seems to be plenty of of small tables but not a lot for bigger parties. I ordered two other rolls (california too and salmon roll) and they come with 8 pieces. That was more than enough food for me and I couldn't even finish. Each roll is also like $5 or so which is very inexpensive for what it is. I didn't try any of the nigiri or sashimi but be assured this place is good for the simple rolls on a budget. Parking is in the back in the lot. Today was the first time I've gone back in awhile, and I was pleasant surprised by the service. The past few times I've been there, the service was not great, but our server today was attentive and kind and vibrant. The ambiance has always felt intimate despite the noise level, and I love being able to see the chef make their rolls. Lunch time is good and super value. Of course, the low price is ridiculously low for a good stop. You get top meal for top dollar. And, at $9.99 its good. Of course, I can make a better meal at home but it cost me $20 or more for a better meal but I have to cook, clean and wash dishes. One fun twist: they offer a dice roll game for beer pricing, called "chin-chiro." Roll an odd number, and it's $4.99; even gets you $2.49; roll doubles and you only pay $0.99. I picked up some takeout on the way home and ordered through their online ordering system (super convenient). Pickup was convenient as I found street parking, but I usually park in the lots nearby (I believe it's $1 for the first 90 min) if I dine in. 8 pcs of their specialty rolls cost me about $13 total, which is the average (if not less) I would expect to pay for sushi. The sushi was fresh and tasty despite sitting in traffic with me for 30+ minutes. Though I didn't dine in on this occasion, I have always appreciated the cleanliness and openness of the restaurant despite it being a more narrow sized shop. I am really bummed I have to write this review. I should have looked at the reviews/stars before I selected the Pasadena location for my Postmates order from Sushi Stop. Let me start by saying I honestly love Sushi Stop and have been going to the one on Franklin for years, and have also been to the Burbank location. I selected Pasadena as it was the first one that came up, and I didn't think anything of it. My overall experience with Sushi Stop is good sushi for a good price. The tuna sampler (see pic) was GRAY. You can see in the photo that tuna is not the right color or texture, I was shocked they even thought that was acceptable. I had one bite and thought I was going to be ill. The same goes for the ceviche hand roll, you can see the fish just looks gross, for lack of a better word. There was also a hair in the California roll, which on top of tasting questionable also looked poorly made. Unfortunately, not only will I not be going to Sushi Stop, I also probably won't be eating sushi for a while. I understand Sushi Stop is not top end sushi (nor do I think they claim to be, which is totally fine!) but SOME standard and quality control would be really appreciated. It's never let me down! So reasonably priced and SUCH good quality. I've had a lot of sushi in multiple countries and you can tell it's fresh here. Service was good too! My boyfriend who tried it for the first time tonight was blown away by how good it was for how little it cost. We were particularly impressed with the salmon trio and the yellowtail trio. I've never really gotten anything besides nigiri and rolls, and those are awesome, so I don't feel the need to. Went for dine in Monday around 12:30pm so 1hr after opening. Not crowded at all so hostess promptly greeted and advised us we could sit at any open table. She promptly got our drink orders and provided us with the checklist menu. Only one sushi chef was working at the time. Cooked items came out first, I'm guessing because another chef was handling these dishes in the back. We got 2 orders of salmon nigiri, 1 eel nigiri, 1 trio yellowtail, salmon skin salad, baked muscles, salmon avocado roll, shrimp tempura roll, and tempura ice cream plus hot green tea. Total came out to $60 pre tip. I'd say given the quality of the food and the amount we ate, definitely cheaper maybe better to hit your local ayce joint. Tempura ice cream was probably the biggest disappointment. As you can see from the photo, it was cut in 4's and presented upside down. This was very likely to give the illusion there was more ice cream cuz the middle was a huge pile of whipped cream. Usually the ice cream is cut and presented open with the ice cream side facing you. Tricky tricky this one... Oh yea! Something's off with their ginger... It tasted soapy today, hopefully that's not a norm cuz it made my stomach feel sickly. Service was excellent.
