If I could give them no stars I would! I was extremely disgusted and disappointed with the quality of their food! There was bones in every bite and it just tasted gross! I am a usual sushi eater and that place was by far the worst sushi I have ever had! Sushi at the grocery store taste way better than this place! The restaurant smelt like rotting fish and expired vegetables. There were fruit flies all over my table and my food! I will definitely not be eating here ever again! So gross!! read more

The sushi tastes fine despite being previously frozen and pre cut (they wouldn't give you fresh fish at 50% off as it isn't cost-effective), so it's a good entry level place. We love this place, we come here about once a week. Very affordable (half off on a lot of rolls) and yummy sushi (scallop dynamite is my favorite, my husband loves their salmon), great customer service too. It feels kinda homy, it's weird because sushi restaurant aren't supposed to feel homy. They have another location in Escondido (I'm not sure if it's the same owner or it's just the same name) but even though the Escondido location it's closer to our home and they serve the same food we don't like going there, it's a different atmosphere there. Sometimes you might get too much attention sometimes none. The last time we went there, we waited for our check for 20 minutes while the waitress was right behind us speaking with another table about her open relationship with her boyfriend, it was kinda funny but in the same time annoying. So if you go to Escondido location you should try the San Marcos place instead, it's way better. Even the food in San Marcos tastes better. read more

Yums! We come back here all the time. Love the baked lobster roll and the spicy garlic edamame. One of our favorites: the spicy seafood soup. yyyyuuuuuuuummmmm!!! I ordered from doordash because my baby was napping. I have food allergies to the point that I have an epipen. I ordered the tempura shrimp roll because it said on the menu it came with soy paper, no mention on avocodao so I thought it was safe. When the roll arrived it came with seaweed AND soy paper and there was also avocado, which was not mentioned on the menu. I'm allergic to both seaweed and avocado. All of this is excusable and understandable. HOWEVER, when I called them they told me they have had issues with doordash and that it is my responsibility make a special note of anything I'm allergic to (honey, tomatoes, mango, pistachios, buzz buttons....) when ordering anything. They insisted they were not to blame and that they couldn't do anything for me and that I had to contact doordash. Funny thing is I did contact doordash and they immediately refunded me, I ordered from a different restaurant and the same thing happened. The difference in the customer service was evident In that the next restaurant apologized and sent an employee out immediately to send me a replacement. read more

Usually the food is reasonably good, but not great, but the attentive service makes up for it. Okay, I expected service would be horrible on New Year's Eve, but the family outvoted me, so we went. However, we went for an early dinner around 4:30 when it wasn't busy, and it turned into a horrible rest of the day for me. Our chef took our order, and then informed us he had to leave (was he fired?) and that he would turn our order over to the other chef to take care of us. Well, we waited, and it was obvious the order never got turned over. So, I figured I got this straightened out? Nope. After we received our first rolls, we waited forever until I complained. It seems the other chef was busy taking care of his own customers and the tables, and completely ignored us. I had also placed a to-go order with the chef an hour ago. When I realized the rest of our order was not even in progress, nor our to-go order started, I told them to cancel the rest and bring me the bill. I was billed for a roll we never received, but fortunately I checked (because I figured something like this might happen) and was refunded. My son who chose this restaurant when I offered to take him to a better one at my treat was upset that I wasn't "chill," about the way things turned out. I was not angry, but I just resent poor service. If they were unable to accommodate us, I would appreciate being informed and we could come back later when they were fully staffed. My other child was upset that we didn't return with the meal we had promised him. And Sushiya could have doubled the money they made from our order, but were unable to provide. Note: The Shushiya in Escondido in the Target Center is much better in quality than this one in the Walmart Center. They offer better service and better quality fish. Now, I didn't understand how the fish could be better quality as they are a chain, but the guy explained to me that the head chef has his own relationship with suppliers, and could choose his own products. The Escondido Sushiya does not have half-off nigri, only half-off rolls, but the quality is worth it. read more

The sushi is so delicious that you don't have to use soy sauce. Also, the presentation of the sushi is nice. The staff is really friendly but we had to wait FOREVER before we were seated (it's a small place). The prices are pretty good, many of the rolls are half off during certain times. I've been going to this restaurant for years, even when the previous owner had only the one small restaurant. When the new owners came in we were loyal customers and came often, however, the food of late has been getting worse and worse. The receipts are not consistent and you never know what your favorite roll will look like out of the kitchen from day to day. OMG I keep coming back for the Chicken Teriyaki lunch special, for just under ($10) you get rice, chicken, vegetable and shrimp tempura and a half of a California roll! Usually Love this place.... I work in retail and the customer service was at best, less than satisfactory. Went in and got a menu to order To Go. Told then lady at the front I was quickly going to go next door. Went to Starbucks and then to the clothing store next door (about 10 minutes). Came back in and my order was still not ready... There were 2 customers that were there when I had ordered. There were now 5 people sitting and Eating... My order was still no where to be picked up. The 3 people that were eating and 1 of the original had paid their bills and had left. I then went to the front lady and asked if my order was ready. She then went over to one of the amazing sushi chefs and got my rolls. I am assuming because I did not leave a tip when I paid before I left ( sorry, am I required to do so on a order that is Take-out to do?) that she felt I was not worthy of expedience? Not cool, not cool... I will now being ordering over the phone for pick-up from now on... Such a bummer. This place has amazing sushi for amazing prices. Just left this place. So disappointed in today's visit. First of all the manager named Wendy is the worst manager. People like her shouldn't be placed in a management position. We've been coming here for about 2 years. Unfortunately it will be the last. Tonight the waitress brought us our bill. After leaving the money for them to pick it up Wendy kept looking at our tip we were leaving. Literally kept starring at our table. She never bothered to pick up the table or ask for refills. But when it's up to the tip she will. So we tested her today and left the tip under the tray. She ran after us and asked us why we didn't leave a tip. I went back inside to tell her that I did but since I knew that's all she cared about. Which we've always known. The same employees have told us before. I immediately addressed the same waitress who always helps us and asked her if that's true. She said no. I asked for her bosses name and number and she refused. We've always been great tippers. I can not believe the way we were treated. I am still requesting to speak to the business owner. My son, husband and I all got food poisoning at this restaurant. My 12-year-old son literally became sick (vomited) outside their door and the employees all saw this. We all got sick in proportion to the amount we ate. My husband called them and they offered to pay us back for ONE item. My husband said they should pay us back for everything. An owner was supposed to call us but never did. When I called two days later, they said we all had to provide notes from our doctor to PROVE we were sick. They SAW my son get sick! We didn't require a trip to urgent care - thank goodness. But they knew from what they saw that my son became sick after eating their food. He was fine before going there. This place is awful! We will NEVER go back. I recommend finding a higher quality sushi restaurant and skip getting food-poisoned at Sushiya! read more

I've never been upset with any kind of bad service due to short staff because I do work in the industry. But this visit was absolutely ridiculous to the point where I couldn't take it anymore. We ordered our sushi first before several tables came in over the next 45 min, and we waited. And we waited. And we waited. Every other party ordered and got their dinner well before we got any of our dinner. No communication from anyone on why it was taking so long. Take out orders came in and went, other guests eating and all while we are still waiting for a sushi roll to come out. After all said and done after an hour we cancelled our order only for the chef to say it's coming out in 3 min. Sorry my man, you had plenty of time to prepare our order and that was the first thing we heard. Staff went through shift change and no one communicated to us on what was going on. All said and done, the night server/ manager finally brought us our bill which I was still surprised after all that. I never stiff on a bill but into order to earn TIPS (To Insure Prompt Service), both front and heart of house have to do that. I feel sorry if the servers have to share tips with that sloth of a sushi chef. Overall created the most disappointing dining experience in my ten years of working in the industry. However there was two girls who were the waitress but they didn't check on me once, they seemed like they hated having to be here which hey I get it work sucks but come on do your job! They have half off specials all the time so your lunch or dinner won't break the bank. Their crunchy roll, spicy tuna, and snowball rolls are my favorite. This sushi joint, along with one across the street (Umai Sushi), have had (for a long time), offered 40% (take out) and 50% off (dine-in) specials on a lot of their rolls and some other items off of their menu, too. However, about a year ago, Umai Sushi ceased their 40 and 50% off specials and adjusted their prices, which I found out the hard way last time I visited them. So, I decided to return to this sushi restaurant because they still offered the 50% dine-in option. Their sushi is just as comparable as Umai Sushi but with half the price. What more do you need? Service is just as friendly, too. I have decided to make this restaurant my "go-to" sushi place. When my daughter and I have our "mother-daughter" night, we often come here to get our sushi fix. read more

Went here yesterday (tues 19th) about 4:30. Told the nice lady at the register that I was going to write a review....... I have been here several times before, but it has been a long while since my last visit. The woman who waited on me (sorry, did not get her name) was so attentive and observant. I said I was trying to read the sushi menu, and she brought me out a pair of reading glasses. I ordered the Spanish Roll, which someone on Yelp had mentioned (thank you), and the Pokie Roll......YUM!!!! Very fresh and tasty and not too spicy.
