Their chocolate cupcake is so delicious and it's really hard for most bakeries to get the chocolate cupcake or cake right and they nailed it. It's better than any of the other major bakeries in Dallas hands-down, full stop. The atmosphere is really cute. See I like it, the staff was very nice. Easy parking right in front. Each month they have a different "Limited Time" cupcake flavor. Today it was a Blueberry Pancake cupcake that was absolutely loaded with juicy blueberries, tiny maple syrup pockets, and topped with a decadent buttercream frosting. It absolutely melts in your mouth. On my previous visit I tried their limited Strawberry Champagne flavor. They sell their tall layered cakes by the slice! They also have cookies, cheesecake, pie and dessert bars. They have beautiful cakes, cupcakes and more in the display case. (Since I hate the word "moist," you know it has to be very good to use it in this description.) I met friends for a Saturday morning run and brunch. SusieCakes Lakewood was right next door so I took advantage of the opportunity to stock up on favorites. Cupcakes are as wonderful as we remembered. They are best fresh, not refrigerated. Believe the reviews! The carrot cake is the best I've ever had! So moist and flavorful, I don't think there's a better recipe or cake shop out there. The tropical coconut cake is also very good and contains a hint of pineapple but the carrot cake is definitely the best. I also tried the strawberry cupcake and it was ok. It will not hit the spot if you want strawberry cake. It's more like a strawberry shortcake since it is vanilla cake with buttercream and strawberries. Went for the first time while I was in Dallas. The bakery is beautiful but the cupcakes are not good. I got two chocolate, a vanilla and a red velvet. The chocolate ones are quite literally half the size of the others but they're all the same price, the red velvet one was super dry and the vanilla one was very dense and literally tasted spoiled. I wish I would've gotten a picture of how dense the vanilla one was before we threw it away but we were so disappointed that we didn't even think to take a picture. I'm glad I went because I've always wanted to try Susie cakes but I would never go back and I'm glad I didn't blindly order a birthday cake from them without trying it first. One star specifically for event cakes. For such a large bakery you cannot make a custom order for a simple icing that's "out of season". Great for a quick stop, don't waste your time for any special thing. Go to an actual small bakery who has no problem making a cake to order, even though Susie cakes advertises "special order" they cannot make a chocolate cake with peanut butter icing (one of their old staples). Again please please support small businesses over this one Edit: I actually just found a "small business" for my cake and they were absolutely able to accommodate, nothing fancy requested just peanut butter icing on a chocolate cake (something y'all do yearly). I understand keeping your employees safe but such a small request on a normal chocolate cake should be entirely easy to accommodate. That has nothing to do with safety or with maintaining the brand specifically when y'all do it periodically throughout the year. It's sounds like failing business practice. read more

Oh man, this place is just so cute... you literally can't help but smile when you walk inside. That said, the cupcakes range from pretty darn good to just okay, depending on the flavor. A definite must is the chocolate with chocolate icing- so incredibly moist, rich, and decadent. Paired with an ice cold glass of milk, this would be the best treat. The red velvet is also pretty good, and you can actually taste the cream cheese in the frosting. The one I'd skip is the vanilla; it was way too sweet and reminded me of store-bought cupcakes because of the frosting. Something to note about their cupcakes is that they are also filled with frosting, so if you don't love frosting, this probably wouldn't be your cup of tea. read more

We were given the wrong gender reveal cake. The most special and exciting moment that we had been waiting weeks for and we were given the wrong cake. Reserved an entire area at a restaurant with our family, friends and out of town guests and cut into our cake to reveal the baby was a boy! The excitement! The joy! And then we got home later that evening and opened the envelope that we gave to you, the bakery, and it was not the same gender given to us in the cake. Can you imagine the disappointment after the excitement and then finding out that moment was stolen from you, all of those precious pictures of your family finding out now pictures that you will never use or share because it is not actually the gender of your baby. One job. Give the person the correct cake for a huge life moment. We are beyond disappointed, mad and frustrated. We returned the cake and will be telling everyone we know to not use you for big moments because you absolutely failed and ruined it for us.
