After a recent trip to the Philippines, I wanted to let my kids experience some of the tastes that I had just enjoyed. The setup is different from other buffets in that they plate everything for you. They ask what you want and they ask how much and dish it out. The food was good. There wasn't anything that I disliked, but nothing jumped out as amazing, either. I asked if they had halo halo and I was told they do but it's $10 per and that seemed too much for me. Also, the lady who served most of our food was addressed as Susie, so I guess it's her place, but she didn't really smile. It always bothers me when food service people don't smile. read more

This was the absolute strangest dining experience ever. My son, friend, and I went for lunch today. We were thinking to try the lunch buffet, since none of us had been there before. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we arrived at 12:15, the place was empty. It was really strange... was there no 'lunch rush'?[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Anyhow, there was a guy behind the counter but offered no assistance. We didn't know if we sit ourselves or wait to be seated; so we asked. He looked confused. My son went to the counter (where they sell pleather wallets, Funko Pop dolls, olive oil, and purses). Yes, you read that right. The guy offered one menu for the three of us, saying they only had the one. It looked like someone took a bite out of it (part of it was missing). Since we were planning to eat there, we sat ourselves and decided to make the best of it. A lady came to the table (we thought she might be the owner). She mentioned she can only offer four items on the entire menu - she then rattled off what they were - but it was so fast, I don't remember what she said. There was no buffet, and nothing else. I'd never had Filipino food before, so I had questions. We never got to my questions. She asked my son what he'd like. Since he didn't get to look at the one menu yet, he said that he'd like to get lumpia for the office and chicken adobo. She asked how many lumpia and he said about twenty. She then told him they were $1 each and walked away. That was it. We weren't allowed to finish ordering. He didn't even get a drink order in before she walked away. We sat there giggling about how strange this encounter was. We assumed she would have been back to get the rest of our orders. She did not return. Fifteen minutes later, she comes out and says everything is ready to go. We all look at each other wondering what happened. In unison, we got up and went to the cashier. I mentioned to her that we were all hoping to order and try their food; but she didn't give us the chance. She looked shocked and offered to finish taking our orders, but we had to explain that our time was wasted and we now had to get drive thru food and hurry back to work. The 'lumpia' was way over cooked - gave the impression of egg rolls (which is what I've been calling them); and his chicken adobo was gross - gray colored chicken. We fully expected my son to get sick. He hasn't yet - which is good. This is an excellent way to guarantee we will absolutely NOT be back. read more

I'm in SA while my wife is out of town for work, so it was a pleasure to go back to Susie's Lumpia house as Kabayan Kusina is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. So, for lunch, they fried me a fresh batch of lumpia and ended up buying 10 of them at $1 apiece! What a bargain - and let me tell you, their lumpia is tasty and delicious, especially off the fryer. Next time, I will order 2 dozen of these beauties and take them home and eat on them for a couple of days. Also, I ordered a couple of their takeaway lunch plate. At $16 a plate, you get a choice of 3 entrees plus a generous serving of white rice. The plate was heaping with delicious goodness! The service here is personal. The young sons of Susie take care of the restaurant side and boy, are they polite and efficient. I have been here many times, but this is my first visit in 2025. Food: I visited this restaurant for the buffet they offer on Sunday. When you enter, you can sit at any opening seats on your left. On the right side is a party area and there was a large party when I visited. There is an attendant plating your food at the buffet to minimize everyone from touching the serving utensils. Buffet selections - white rice, pancit, adobo, sisig, shrimp, squid, fried pork, nilagang (lauya), afritada, lumpia, okoy, leche flan, white cake, fruit salad, bread. Water and tea are included in the buffet. Bakery/Store: They offer baked goods such as pan de sal, puto, ensaymada, leche flan, etc. The small store has noodles, puto mix, Filipino seasonings for various dishes, etc. Military Discount: They do offer a military discount of 10%. Overall, the food was delicious and it seems like the Filipino and San Antonio community love their food because this place was packed! The only thing I would love that they'd do differently is for the people to serve themselves. Wow... This is another one. I thought I already reviewed. Oh well... My son and I decided we wanted to try Filipino food a few weeks ago. It is one of the few cuisines we had yet to eat together. I had only had it once with my dad about 12 years ago, shortly before he passed. Neither Dad nor I liked the food we had, so I never sought it out again. My son and I narrowed our list down to three different restaurants, and ended up choosing this one because of the buffet. We like to go to buffets when trying new things, because we can try more dishes. The people running Suzie's were really friendly. One of her sons was taking care of us and explaining what everything was. I took a little bit of almost all of the dishes on the buffet. I liked some of the things I took, but in all honesty, they were all so salty, that I couldn't really distinguish any different flavors. Nothing excited me in any way. The only thing that we both really liked were the chubby little sausages. I could have eaten a plate full of them and left happy. I did like the lumpia and pancit noodles. They did not seem to suffer from the attack of the salt shaker that the cooks succumbed to with everything else. I guess a plate with lumpia, pancit, and sausages would have been ideal. I really don't have anything else to say. We kind of decided that maybe we just didn't like Filipino food all that much and scratched it off of our future list of ethnic dining. read more

I came to Susie's lumpia to try their lunch buffet, and I loved their food. It was interesting because it was a restaurant and a store at the same time, which I have never seen before. I could tell that it was a very friendly family environment. There was lots of laughter and you could tell the food was good, because the place was filled with people who knew the workers -- like they were regulars! The workers there also treat you like family. It was my friends birthday and they insisted that her meal was on them so she ate for free! The lunch buffet had a good assortment of filipino soups, adobo, dessert (like flan), and of course the lumpia for around $20 without tip + tax. I was so excited for the lumpia and it did not disappoint. It was the thickest lumpia I've ever seen and the crunch felt like it was double fried. Although it's a buffet, it's not self serve, so you need to get the attention of a worker. But, it honestly wasn't a big deal, because they are so attentive. Buffet - $14 Came in for a late lunch on Friday (~1PM). Pancit had everything I would expect but unfortunately, it was way too oily for me. Lechon Kawali was good flavor but it had been sitting there for a while so the skin was super hard and it got stuck to my molars. Sweet/sour pork was great flavor but too oily and there was too much pork fat compared to pork belly meat. Lumpia was good in flavor but it had been sitting there for a while so it wasn't crunchy on the exterior and too oily on the interior. Eggplant, I could see being really good if I could get it fresh but it was soggy and oily by the time I got it. Corn beef with potatoes was okay but again, too greasy. I really wanted to like this place! Service was great and there was a variety of dishes. Unfortunately, most of the food I had was super oily/greasy. Didn't help that I came at the end of lunch so each of the dishes was the end of the batch and had been sitting there for a bit to soak up more oil by the time I got to the food. Also think the oil that was used for Friday lunch was old oil right before they switched out for Friday dinner. My wife's cousin took us here for lunch when we arrived from Jacksonville just a few days before restaurants were closed to the public because of the coronavirus pandemic. My eyes got really big when I saw all the buffet lineup they had. There were so many, I only tried a few of my favorites. I had their Menudo, Pinakbet, Papaitan, squid, and of course lots of Lechon Kawali. I think the squid was ginataan which was cooked in coconut milk. It's not bad, but I definitely prefer the adobo type of squid. I did enjoy the Papaitan. The main ingredient for the Papaitan looked like cow innards. YUM! I had two servings of those. Let's get right to the point - the food was fantastic! I stopped in here on a whim to pickup some dinner to go. I ordered chicken adobo, pancit, and lumpia. The lady taking my order could have been friendlier - I had barely walked in the door and she was barking at me to order. I hadn't even been given a menu! But I showed her grace and kindness. She's clearly a very hardworking woman and I'm sure the restaurant industry isn't easy, and the food is phenomenal!! I was given a menu and made my selections the gentleman at the cash register was very polite and professional so that made up for the earlier rudeness. :) The wait wasn't long and I enjoyed every bite of my dinner. It actually made three meals for me so WOW! Gave them a second chance on this new location. Missed the home-cooked taste and homey-appeal of their dishes back when they were at their previous location. This place is a bit bigger but the food never tasted like it used to be. On our first attempt here a year ago, the fried fish is overcooked, beyond toasted and it's actually hard, the rest of the food I tried like chicken adobo and the pinakbet are both salty, and even the tinola was way too salty. Today, I came for a quick early dinner trying the buffet again and it was another disappointing experience. Not sure who cooks their food now but it seems like they dump a ton load of salt, maybe fish sauce or soy sauce. It was just a total salt party on everything I asked to put on my plate. I asked for a small bowl of the nilaga with no meat just the veggies and the broth, expecting to satisfy my craving for this chilly and cold afternoon. But even the nilaga broth was way too salty. Must be the same person cooking since the last time we went, and the fried fish is overcooked again, it's tough and even the vinegar was not able to save it as sawsawan. The adobo is not adobo at all since it's so extremely salty as well, it's supposed to be a balance of saltiness and sourness but no, it was just all salty. The chicken curry which doesn't look appetizing at all was also salty to the nth power. Glad they have the A/100 rating from the city sanitation office and the customer service is just right, but since this is a restaurant that serves food, it's the one thing that they should concentrate more and improve more. I saw the young couple at the parking lot when I was leaving. They were also eating earlier and told the young guy that the food was salty. He never hesitated and said yes immediately agreeing with me. He asked if I told them (people at the restaurant) I said no, and added I'll use Yelp instead. Will never visit again, they can't really compare with Sari Sari. I hope the owner knows how salty the food they are serving and improve it if they want to survive this tough economy. I also hope that all the people that rated this restaurant with four or five stars visit again and taste for themselves the horrific disaster salty buffet that Susie's Lumpia House serves its diners. I intentionally did not take a single picture of their food, it would be a mortal sin and a total disrespect to Yelp if I post those pictures. I was sooo hungry and wasn't thinking. :( Went in to Susie's for some Filipino grinds becs I had a craving for some food that only an Asian establishment could cure. Walked in and was surprised to find that the most popular choice of their customers is the buffet. At least that's what was recommended to me by the gentleman who greeted me from behind the glass buffet towards the back-left of the restaurant. Ok, cool. I can do that! Other parts of the space include a mini market, beverage cooler, large check out desk area with lots of fresh baked breads and items to purchase on the way out. THE FOOD: The food items I sampled tasted fine but my biggest concern was that most everything wasn't hot enough, just lukewarm. My favorite flavor of the day was the chicken soup with ginger and squash. I went back for it for Round 2. I also tried the lechon (crispy, greasy deliciousness!), Pancit, chicken adobo and a few others. I also tried the very dense Casava Coconut Cake which hit the spot! I also purchased two cans of some coconut water and a Pan de Coco on the way out. See how they get you?! Hehe. Loved it, though. They still have their buffet open. I tried some amazing dishes. I definitely recommend the purple dessert. I would return just to try it again. You go up to the food and tell the employee what food you would like. They still walk around ensuring your drinks are full. The variety, service, and food are great. I would definitely return. 4.50 stars. I really don't know too much about Filipino food but this place is outstanding. Susie's does a weekend buffet where you can try an enormous sampling of the menu. I suggest you try Susie's on a weekend especially if your knowledge of Filipino - like mine - is somewhat limited. Here's what I really liked: Nilagang Baka: This was a short rib stew laden with green cabbage and green beans in a savory beef broth. As many items were fried or otherwise heavy, the Nilagang Baka was a wonderful counterpoint to these flavors. Pampanga Longganisa: These plump sausages were absolutely bursting with flavor. They have a nice sweet flavor that balances well with the savory flavors. I'd strongly suggest a few of these. Lumpia: I mean, Susie named her placed the Lumpia House for a reason. And once you try the lumpia here, you'll understand. Lumpia is kind of halfway between an egg roll and a spring roll. This particular one was stuffed with ground beef and stupendously delicious. Pair it with a number of different sauces and enjoy a heavenly experience. Outside of these amazing dishes, everything else was great. I also tried kare kare (this is an oxtail stew with various vegetables in a peanut butter sauce), lechon kawali (essentially deep fried pork belly - great with the different sauces you can get here), ukoy (a fried pancake with shrimp and veggies that is somewhat similar to Korea's pajeon), and a couple of items I don't know (a pork belly sweet and sour dish as well as a marinated beef dish). And of course there was adobo as well (pretty good though I'd like a deeper flavor - maybe needs more bay leaves?). Service was super friendly and you can even pick up a few more Filipino chips and assorted snacks up front. Price point is marginal. I think all of this deliciousness came to about twenty dollars. Ok, first things first. If you're a vegetarian, the choices are almost non existent if you go to this buffet. So, full disclosure, this review is based on my husband's consumption of their buffet, the tea that I had and what I saw. The meats were tender and flavorful. The lumpia did not disappoint. The noodles, veggies and meat on the pancit were perfectly cooked. They do need larger glasses for their tea. The sweet tea was sweet. The service was excellent. Very polite staff even though they were busy when we walked in and consistently busy throughout our visit. If you're not vegan, they do have some nice sweets and fruit at the buffet. This is a buffet plus a store. That was nice and a little unexpected. The inside is nothing to write home about, but it's clean. Close at 7pm on Fridays, their busy time is lunch as they offer a lunch buffet with drink for $12.95 on weekdays from 11-4 and $12.95 on the weekend with no drink drink but served from 11-5. My first visit was Saturday and my second visit was the following Friday! Have a small area for grocery items purchase. Also have frozen cook later lumpia when available (also sell out). Well what can I say about the Lumipa House other then its excellent my wife and I came here to try the buffet and everything that we tried was so delicious , unfortunately I don't know the names of everything I ate, but the Tom yum soup , the pan cit noodles, curry chicken, lumpia, and rice was so good. Our bill was at 22.00 not including tip, well worth it considering I didn't get to try everything. Next time I come back here I will get pictures I promise ,it was hard to get pictures as I was eating while trying to answers yelp's questions and finished my plate lol. First time trying Lumpia! This restaurant has been in my saved restaurant list for awhile and on my radar to try. A gf of mine posted on FB raving over there Lumpia, so I figured it was worth trying. The restaurant is literally around the corner from my house, I noticed the restaurant scouring for a new nail shop in my parameter. I strolled in just to get some Lumpia. To my surprise its only 95 cents. I ordered 3. My food came out hot and fresh, the cook even thru an extra Lumpia in my box. That's customer appreciation right there! The partner in crime & I have cycled out of keto about two times since following the lifestyle. During those times, we do our best to curate where we're going and what we plan on eating. Susie's was hot on our list :) We walked in and were told it was 'seat yourself' and as we sat down, we were asked if we wanted the buffet and then what we wanted to drink. We opted for the buffet and ordered unsweet tea which was included in the price if my memory's not failing me. We both hovered around the food just taking a look-see as to what we wanted to try. The lumpia is thicker than what I roll as it looks more like an egg roll than the traditional thin rolls. Nonetheless, it didn't detract from the flavor. It was ground beef filled and was very good. The kare kare was made with pork (I think pork belly) and was very filling. I was also happy to see beef nilaga and lechon kawali with the cuts as thick as my mom always makes them. It very much reminded me of being home w/her (and dipped in mang Tomas sauce of course because that's what you do ;) The price was excellent and they do offer military discounts as well. For 2 weekday lunch buffets plus an order of Filipino ensaymada and 1 ube polvoron to go and we paid about 21 bucks. read more

Not sure if there was a location prior to this one, but this location has not been here long. Food is okay. I use to live on Guam and had island cuisine pretty regularly. Selections are traditional which means full carb but not s wide variety of items. There were several tables that hadn't been cleaned when we got there. There's no real system on to how to be seated, so we waited for a while to be waited on once we learned we could just sit. Beverage cups are small so they go empty pretty fast. Servers are nice but there's not enough of them to minimize wait times. They offer military/vet discount so that was nice. read more

This place is OUTSTANDING! I had only ever had lumpia from a food truck (HAHA). I was craving lumpia and pancit so my Fiancé took me here. I was shocked at just how much better it was. The lumpia is HUGE and the pancit has wonderful flavor. It was so good that I forgot to take photos. I will next time. If you like lumpia, visit Susie's. You won't be disappointed! My grandma and family love this place. Nice little restaurant. The food is satisfactory and the price I pay for the food is very reasonable. Small area but enough to satisfy my Filipino food cravings. There's a mini grocery area off to the side. On Saturday and Sundays, they offer a mini buffet which is pretty good as well! The staff and owner are friendly and really make you feel at home. They always come to your table to attend to your needs and are always ready to help you out, which is really nice and shows going above and beyond.
