Would definitely be "4" stars for the dipping sauce - mustards and chocolate and caramel sauces, salsas and etc. However, the wine tasting ...although free was horrible. The staff here is definitely overworked and understaffed. A lot of them were rude and harsh to the paying costumers while they were making purchases. I only had one tasting because the women here are too busy to take the time to pour that I eventually walked out because I rather go BACK to v.sattui across the street. Also, when others asked specific taste questions, they were rude and not taking the time to provide input. So we stopped by Sutter Home's on our way back home from a birthday trip in Calistoga. Cute and quaint from the outside and very welcoming inside with a few foods, containing wine, out for the sampling. ( I liked that, awesome olive oil) They offer complimentary tastings and the lady giving us tastings was very friendly and knowledgeable. They had a great wine selection and actually turned me on to my first Port. (note: Try the Zinfindel Port ;) My girlfriends, and I, all bought bottles. And were given the 6pk discount but allowed to pay separately. Nice. There's also no shortage of selection when it comes to souvenirs either. But I definitely have to recommend trying their chocolate cream sherry sauce!!! I know it's probably not cool in "wino terms" to say you like this wine or winery but I do. $5 gets you a handful of tastes with typically generous pours. It's shiny and filled with products from lotion to glass nail files, really more like a retail store. But the garden outside is lovely and the wine is super affordable. What a great time we had here at Sutter Home today. We are inexperienced 1st time tasters and trying to coordinate our own last minute wine tasting tour. We went to a couple of wineries along hwy 29. It was ok. Pretty stuffy and a little intimating for us newbies.The upside was it was not busy at all, so the hostesses were nice. We decided to drive further along the road and saw Sutter Home. A familiar brand to us. Lol! But unlike the other wineries, it was very relaxed, we did not feel intimidated, it wasn't stuffy or snobbish at all. They have a little store going on. A very inviting layout with food tasting as well. We didn't even know they were giving complimentary tastings.That made the experience it even more awesome. I'm giving 3 stars simply because free wine was involved, and I'm feeling generous. After a day of touring wineries, we came to Sutter Home with the full understanding that we'd be trying some of the cheapest wine in Napa. Our expectations were very low, and even then, we were let down. As it was a free tasting, we'd all agreed we were going to pick up at least one bottle or a gift shop item upon finishing. After getting ignored at the tasting bar for over 5 minutes, the couple next to us asked if they were allowed to give us their own menu to look at. At that point, the woman behind the bar acknowledged us and was somewhat helpful. She didn't explain anything about the 6 wines we could choose from, just asked us to point out what we wanted to try from their names on the paper. We were waiting for our second sample when a couple from the Wine Club walked up to the bar. They announced their title and from then on out, the woman pouring for us didn't bother to check in with us or ask what we'd like to try next. We had to continually wave her down to get her to uncork. The Wine Club couple were done with 6 wines before we'd even had our third. At the end of the tasting, we weren't asked if we'd enjoyed any, or if we had any questions. As I said before, out of politeness, we'd initially said we'd each purchase something from Sutter Home. After getting treated so poorly, we didn't even bother. Cheap wine, even worse customer service. read more

Nice outdoor garden. Interesting gift shop filled with Sutter Home wines and other novelties. Their dips made for chips/pita chips are worth buying, very good and many interesting flavors. Definitely worth the stop when in wine county. It's a complimentary wine tasting after all. As the creator of Zinfandel, you must try their reserve Zinfandel as they don't offer it in the grocery stores. You get the try four wines for free, and the servers are really nice about letting you try an extra one or two. My favorites were the pink moscato and their zin. I joined Sutter's wine club right before the Covid pandemic .Two years later as the world was opening up ,my girlfriends are like let's go up to Napa and pick up our bottles ,, don't you have like 2yrs of wine to pick up ? So we get up there last month in April and I asked about my wine bottles.I was told the the computer only goes back to January and was given a number to call. Before calling I reset the password on my account. and behold two years of my wine was picked up not by me .By who though? ESpecially during a pandemic . Then I noticed a purchase that was not done with the card I had on file along with three months supply of my wine that I paid for with my hard earn money! Seems like an inside job being that you have to show ID and all.The wine is not pricey at all ,but dang don't employees get discounts? Maybe they thought I forgot or died of Covid? This is definitely theft stealing from the customer and the employer.Luckily I had the last 4 numbers of the credit card they used! FREE Wine = 4 Stars! They were also very friendly and generous, and don't mind you showing up 5 minutes before closing while really feeling the dozen or so wineries you visited earlier in the day. Sutter Home was the place on our drive out at 3:55PM, after a substantial amount of wine, thinking "We probably don't have time for another winery, do we?" When we saw it... a sign saying "Free Tasting". We yelled to the drive, "Pull a U turn!", stopping traffic on the main road to complete the U turn, we barely made it on time! Well worth it! Sutter Home will always make it on my "must visit" list for Napa. Tip: When it comes to Napa the longer and more elaborate the driveway up to the tasting room, the more expensive the tasting is going to be. Driving down St. Helena Highway my parents wanted to visit this vineyard that they had stopped by over a decade ago. Not only is wine tasting here free, but they also have complimentary food sampling! There was a nice variety of wines, my mom decided to try their retro muscat and another moscato. They let you try 4 of their 8 open bottles at no charge! The shop itself is also well stocked with a variety of seasonal items, wines, and even locally produced foods. Among the tasty dips and condiments were a Sherry Chocolate Dip, Honey BBQ Marinades, Spicy and Sweet Mustards, and flavored olive oils. Sutter Home has one of the most beautiful properties among all of the wineries with a slew of Victorian style buildings. This is my second time at Sutter Home and I am again pleasantly impressed. A group of six of us went about mid-day on a Friday. Ambiance - (5/5) A nice tasting room, fairly busy, but with an intimate feeling for such a big company. There were tasty snacks and free water bottles. No pets. Service - (5/5) Vinney was knowledgeable , nice, and attentive - he even walked us over the the winery next door when we finished. The wines were also packed up nicely in travel boxes. Cost - (5/5) The tasting is free and we tried ten different wines. Wine - (5/5) We loved the White Merlot, Sweet Red, Bubbly Pink Moscato, Sherry, and Port. It's not too fancy, just pretzels, tortilla chips, and bread... it's the dipping sauces! They have this trio of mustard dipping sauces: sesame, garlic, fiery hot. They were all very delicious. The chocolate dipping sauces had alcohol in them, and were yummy! The people there are really nice, not too pushy. The backyard with the gazebo was beautiful! Our experience began with insult, as Favion very rudely implied my parents were drunks because they wanted to taste wine. To carify: they had done the complimentary tasting, but wanted to pay for the reserve tasting as well. Others were being allowed to taste everything, but all of a sudden it was against their policy to allow more than one. His attitude was the worst thing about it; his words specifically were, "This is not a bar." However, the manager made it right by allowing us a private tasting with Tim, who was amazing! Now, we were only looking for an attitude change, not another tasting. But the experience we had with Tim was the best we could hope for, and we even ended up joining their wine club.
