We went for breakfast this morning. Walked in found a table looked over there was a guy sleeping at a 2 top. Ask our waiter Mike what the deal is here. He said he was there when he came in, and it was the owner's son. It took us like 45 minutes for our food. Then my over easy eggs were so raw I could not even eat them. My wife's sausage scramble was like an omelet with crappy hash browns on the side. The waiter Mike was ok, not his fault. This was our third time in many years. DONE. Trying to kill time while my kid is taking his SAT. Based on the recommendations and they have WiFi, I was not disappointed. I had the Medicine with Bacon and I can't believe I ate the whole thing!! It is loaded with big chunks of vegetables and just enough cheese for flavor, not to overwhelm which is custom in most places. I forgot to tell them to hold the onions, but they were big so I could pull them aside. Non stop coffee and good service. I got here early with plenty of seating and it filled up quickly. Definitely worth the stop and will recommend! read more

I was in town recently for training and looked on Yelp to see what some good choices were and I saw that this place had high ratings. I stopped in and here is what I think. The outside looks a little bit like a dive and the parking in the back is a little sketchy with the trailer park right near. I saw some interesting and savory characters near the trailer park and was hoping my car was safe. Turned out it was not a problem. The server was super nice, quick, and friendly. She was attentive without being annoying. She kept my pop refilled, took my order quickly, and was knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered an omelette which was huge and very tasty. Not greasy or runny. The hashbrowns were the home made shredded crispy kind! YUM!!! Food was a bit over priced in my opinion but it was good and nice sized portions. I could only eat half of my omelette. The inside of the restaurant is a little "divey" but I came to eat and hey! I was in Shelton, so I didnt expect much else honestly. I would go back to this place and recommend it if you arent super picky about locations or appearances of restaurants. UPDATE:: 5-27-12 So based on the email I just got from an employee or owner?? of this joint I am lowering my score to a 1. Wow, I think I've found my new favorite Mason County breakfast spot! This place has got it all: tasty food, generous portions, good coffee, a huge menu, inexpensive prices, and excellent service. Suzan's Grill has been open for business in Shelton for years, but I've only recently discovered this great little diner. This unassuming little restaurant is located on the old Olympic Highway, just down the street a few blocks from the the shopping centers and fast food joints near the Wallace Kneeland Blvd exit off of Highway 101. It's adjacent to a mobile home park and easy to miss if you're not looking out for it. They are a breakfast & lunch only business too-- hours are 8am to 3pm every day. So far I've been in here about 10 times, and tried something different from their expansive breakfast menu on each visit. All of the basics like bacon & eggs and biscuits & gravy are there, along with specialties like a waffle sandwich and a whole series Legendary Omelettes. They've also got burgers, sandwiches, salad and such on the lunch menu, but so far I've only stopped by in the morning. I've never been disappointed with the quality of the food, the service, or the prices. Looking forward to many more meals here! read more

This is absolutely the best diner food ever-anywhere. The menu is extensive. My family and I have had several different dishes on the menu and they were all spectacular! When we go to Suzan's we constantly tell each other to try something new becuase we keep going back to great dishes we have ordered before. We have NEVER had a bad meal. The place is clean and easy to spend some time chatting and enjoying the great food. Portions are huge....and we appreciate their commitment to the environment by not having plastic straws and only providing reusable to go containers. Bravo Susan's Grill! We ate here two days in a row and it was fabulous. I had the pit ham steak, hubby has the farmer's delight and the day before he had the western and they were absolutely amazing and delicious! Visited Saturday 9/28/19 at 12:20pm. The place was full. Waited a few minutes to get a table. Looks like they do breakfast all day. Ordered the Western Omelette. About 20 min later it came out. Good size omelette, ingredients green pepper, onion, and tomato were coarsely chopped then the ham. Generous helping, tasted great. Worth visiting again. More parking in back or some parked across the street. About half the patrons were packing take home boxes! read more

Not sure how we ever missed coming here all these years having beach house near Hoodsport. Now that we are selling the place we happened to find a gold mine of a breakfast place when dropping off donations next door, bummer. Place was buzzing at 10 on a weekday, only a couple tables available but place isn't large...but still a great sign of good food. Was pretty obvious our server was the owner, then when asked she confirmed, very friendly gal. Soon many yummy sounding breakfast options made it a real task to decide. But seeing the pic on Yelp of the classic Eggs Benny lead me to that choice and my hubbys as well, one of our favs. Coffee was good, although busy the owner and only server stayed on top of food delivery and keeping drinks refilled properly and happily. Our plates came out within 15mins....OMG, picture perfect Eggs Benedict and crispy brown hash browns as requested, hubbys fries too. The poached eggs perfection, hollandaise tasted homemade and also perfect and the ham slice....this wasn't a cheapo piece of canadian bacon, this was 1/4 inch ham and delicious. Honestly one of the best renditions of this classic dish we've had and being in our mid 50's and ordering this many times and from dives to high end this is making a true lasting impression. Only kicking ourselves for not knowing years sooner!! As we won't be driving this area anymore after the next couple weeks. But want to get the word out, this is a gem for breakfast as I could see other patrons various dishes and everything looked awesome (omelets, biscuits/gravy, pancakes, etc). Must note, portions are ample and prices very fair. We'll likely be giving it another try before we say goodbye to the Shelton/Hoodsport area. read more

How have I not eaten here before?! Lived in Shelton my entire life and never stepped foot in this place. Obviously it's the locals best kept secret, so much that they keep it secret from the other locals. We came for breakfast and holy smokes it was good. If you leave this place hungry, you're not doing it right. My B&G platter, literally came on a plate the size of a platter. The staff was friendly and attentive and the place was clean and tidy. Keeping in mind that there aren't a large number of options in Shelton, this place is a gem. We stopped by for breakfast on Saturday morning before a hike. It was busy but there were still tables open. Once we sat ourselves we were immediately greeted by a friendly waiter. We ordered coffee and tea, the pop eye scram, and the medicine. The portions were large and I was happy to find vegetarian food in a small town (harder than one would think). The homers weren't very crispy or salty but the eggs were quite good. They didn't have a large selections of hot tea but just Lipton. Given the location, this place hits the spot but it wouldn't be anything special if it had more competition. read more

Ok so my boyfriend and I were hungry one morning and didn't want to wait for godfathers to open.,.. We thot this place Had to be better then dennys..... We were very wrong. We entered and wondered if this place had been dusted or spring cleaned in the last 10 yrs? We sat and had to wait a bit for a waitress and menus. Then wee waited or her to come back and take our drink order(2 waters), she would only take our drink order even tho we were ready to order! She brought our food and forgot my toast... She brought it and I began to eat... Then it happened.... I found a long gray hair in my food! Yuck she came over and asked how it was and I showed her the hair..... This is when it gets good. She rolled her eyes and offered to scrap off the part with hair in it!!!!!!!!! I could not believe it :o When I told her I didn't want any of it she took the plate and walked to the kitchen and loudly explained that it is JUST a hair, that ppl r too picky!!!!!!! She then came out and told me she would ONLY charge me half price for my meal!!!! That I took 1 bite of! Sure enuf she brought a bill for 19.83 and on the bill said half off for hair in food!!!! We left a 20 in hopes that they would use the change to buy the cook a hairnet :) we kept the ticket with the infamous quote and look at it each time we think we are brave enuf to try a new Shelton restaurant!!! Sometimes you find yourself in Shelton. It happens. Anyway - in Shelton you are and needing some nourishment. Unfortunately, Shelton specializes in fast food - which can be great but not what you NEED. You need actual food that is tasty, full of protein, and goodness. We drove all over Shelton trying to find a place that would meet all our needs and happened upon Suzan's. Clearly a place that was either going to be fully sketchy or lovely. It ended up being above average. The seats and decor leave lots to be desired - but the people watching makes up for the ambiance. I enjoyed a large portion of spicy homemade chili, a very generous veggie filled salad (much more than the iceberg lettuce I was expecting), and a truly delicious and refreshing glass of strawberry lemon aid. The breakfasts looked creative and delicious (dungenous crab eggs Benedict) and full of goodness. The pies also looked like they would be great - but I was far too full to even being to think about pie! read more

I'm not from Shelton, as you can see. So this little place just happened to be the best rated Yelp spot on my roadtrip and I thought I'd give it a shot. Bonus points for them because they were the only place open in that area at 8am (besides McDonalds which I didn't want to do). It's a little hole-in-the-wall diner with a sweet owner and a small dining area. I liked how secluded our booth was. Even when other people came in about 30 minutes later the restaurant remained very quiet. I also liked their menu size, there was plenty to order from. The only downside for me was that the food seemed like something I could easily make at home. If you're in the area and you need breakfast, this a good option but in my opinion I could probably make these dishes at home with a little bit of time and grocery shopping. read more

So did other people's burgers and halibut and chips. Based on my snooping, I was sorry I wasn't hungrier. They have wine, but I didn't ask to see the list. You might not get a better beer than Coors Light, either. Actually, stick with the strawberry lemonade: it's quite tasty. And there's pie. Judging from the the setting, it's probably excellent. Went there for breakfast and found what will be the new regular dive with amazing, down home food with incredibly generous portions. Three of us went in and got out on 30 bucks. Not sure about the overpriced comments, but after living in Boston and Seattle, it feels dirt cheap for what you get. I had a plate piled high of prime rib hash that was some of the best I've ever had. Clearly not paying for ambiance, but that's part of the charm in my opinion. We were staying in Union, and starving. We looked up places for breakfast in Shelton as we were going to be there later. We found a couple of places that looked passable, but the real seller was the review by Amy. We found it relatively easily. It's right off the road, yellow and in front of an odd little trailer park sort of thing. It looks to be an old mexican restaurant. When you walk in, its sortof cozy in that way that small town diners can be. Colored pages of Scooby Doo and Shaggy lined the walls, displaying the local children's talent. We were happy with the table. Everything was well used, but clean. Our server, Mike, was nice. He was the only server for 5 tables and NOT ONCE did our coffee cups get less than half full. We were impressed with his attentiveness. The menu is informative and just a little sassy. We both chose an omelette, he had the Sasquatch (steak, jalapenos. onions, potatoes and some other stuff) and I had the Danny Boy (Corned beef, onions, potatoes, mushrooms). I had an alteration of no mushrooms, add peppers. The price was I think 10.99 for his and 9.99 for mine. First off, the omelettes need to be made one at a time, due to the sheer size of them. That's impressive. They're folded beautifully. All the ingredients used were fresh, hand cut. The corned beef in the Danny Boy was impeccable. The Sasquatch was spicy enough to notice, but not enough to hurt. It was a sturdy breakfast to battle our hangovers and fuel us for the game of disc golf ahead. What really impressed me though, was the potatoes. They look like ordinary hashbrowns. Then you take a bite and you get a larger chunk of potato. And that bite of potato is not plain or bland. They take the time to season their potatoes. Just a bit. I've had lots of great food, and eaten at some great restaurants, but what always ends up sticking with me is a well made side. When its cooked perfectly, seasoned well, given the same amount of care as the main, since its going on the plate, it is ALWAYS noticed by me. This was the crispiest hashbrown, with the tastiest chunky potatoes inside. I loved it. The portions were HUGE. HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE. We both took home about half an omelette and half our potatoes, and had a yummy dinner. For value, this place is great. I like the divey-ness of it. I like the large portions of well made food. I like the Mike who can handle 5 tables at a time without breaking a sweat or me seeing the bottom of my coffee mug. I also liked that when we were walking back to our car, a kitty walked up to us and we both got to pet it. I'm giving that credit to Suzan's too. read more

Dear Racist Server - I hope you get a chance to read this: We were in the area on our way to Vance Creek Railriders and stumbled on this place via Yelp. Another group we were with were slightly ahead of us and were already seated by the time we got to the restaurant. We sat down at a table right next to them. It was around 11 AM and an older male server approached us. He dropped off waters and said he'll be back to take our order. No one walked through the doors after us until a little little bit later - the first half of the restaurant where we sat was empty. When he came back with the water, he didn't give us a chance to say anything else and just sped off. So we just waited. Meanwhile, I see him with other tables and taking his time pouring them coffee and then disappears again. Then he takes the order of a couple that came in AFTER us. Still waiting, and he hasn't come back to check on us. At this point, we were irritated but we stayed patient and kind. The next time we see him again, he's still holding his coffee pot, walks past us AGAIN and caters to the table behind us. So then I asked him if we can order now. He brushed me off says he'll be back. At this point we felt unwelcomed (who wouldn't?) and he didn't want to acknowledge us. We flag him down and I ask how long it'll be. He quickly responds to tell me that it'll take 20-25 mins for the food to be ready but he couldn't take my order because the kitchen was backed up and "they're too busy since it's Memorial Day". The tone and demeanor of this man definitely showed he did not want to serve us. We got up and I said, you know what - I get it. The dishwasher walks down to our table and starts clearing it as I was putting together my items. I explained to her why we were leaving and she then offered to take our order. A dishwasher was willing to take our order but the server couldn't?! This girl needs a promotion - she knows how to listen and provide actual customer service. I told her how the fellow coworker came off as a racist as we were the only Asian group in the whole restaurant and we were the ones he chose to ignore. She told me how he might not have intended to come off that way but whether or not he intended to (because who wants to admit they're racist?), he still gave us the worst customer service possible. We won't be back and will be sharing this experience with everyone. It's a shame, we live in the modern day and racism is alive and well. read more

While in Shelton wa visit this restaurant. If your hungry get the biscuits and gravy. Biscuits are large and fluffy. Gravy is homemade silky smooth and delicious. Large portion full 12 inch plate. I'm always on a mission for good b& g this is almost as good as mine. Best I've had in a restaurant. Its worth they wait. Large menu many choices for breakfast. Great hole in the wall. read more
