This place should probably be out of business. I love a good hole in the wall with a shabby sheik aesthetic, but this place is absolutely filthy. - The fans are covered in dirt and dust, with congealed pieces hanging off of them as they spin. - Walls are filthy, covered in dirt, spiderwebs, and dying foliage. A lot of the wood looks like it is rotting. - Birds have infested this place. I literally had one poop on our table while eating. There are lots of hooks and planter hangers everywhere with no plants. Birds use these to sit above you and watch for an opportunity to grab some food...or poop on your table. They are also using the AC unit condensation drain as a make-shift birdbath. It was hard to find one seat without tons of bird poop on it, so you are literally sitting in it while you eat. I had trouble finding a health rating on the windows but wouldn't be surprised if it's a "C." Perhaps the kitchen is cleaner. Unfortunately I can't give it higher marks because of this, but I wanted to also highlight that the customer service was great. People are friendly, kind, and attentive. This review is for Swami's Café, Encinitas 101, this is a small restaurant chain. I make the distinction because the vibes are worlds apart. Encinitas 101 has a real beach vibe: old, but functional, building, character, and a casual approach that isn't chainish (a word in my vocabulary). You could tell the regulars from tourists: regulars were engaged with staff and others as if they were in the comfort of their own homes. This is an order and pick up beverage at the register and they will run your food to your table when ready. BTW, we were told that our 2 meals were prepared at 2 different kitchens and so that's why they came out at different times - FYI. What came out first was the Eggs Benedict, so we started with this. The menu price is only $13.95 and states "and choice of one of the following ..... ham..." so I choose ham. It's traditional for Eggs Benedict to automatically come with Canadian-style bacon or ham - not as an option. I was surprised to see that my receipt had the $13.95 plus "$Add Ham $2.00". I realize we are in inflationary times and I further realize the restaurant business is a tough one, but I'd like the actual price to be in a clear format with the menu item - whatever the total, total price may rack up to. But as to the ham, as you can see in my pic, it was generously portioned. The eggs were cooked just right. The Hollandaise sauce had the expected tang. The dusting of, I think chipotle powder, had a nice kick with the Hollandaise sauce. The potatoes were country style. They were cooked well - I liked the crunch and texture of the "bits and pieces" with the fried potato pieces and were nicely seasoned. Next came the Acai Bowl - Swami's Style. This is a bit out of my culinary range, but I liked it. The Acai is blended with apple juice and is presented like a sorbet - it's the purple item in the center of the bowl. It was fruity flavored, incredibly refreshing and quite tasty. There was granola under it which added a nice crunch. The fruit was fresh and melded well with the Acai. I like the nutritional value of the bee pollen, and it balanced out the eye appeal of the bowl. I'd have this again. read more

We have ordered from Swami's twice through grubhub, the first time we received all items but no potatoes. The potatoes are in the name of what we ordered not an add on. The second time we ordered through grubhub they did not include the eggs or potatoes, which again were not add ons. We called the restaurant but they seem to not care about them not getting the order correct. It is disapointing to pay so much for delivery and not receive your food - left hungry... I know how grubhub works in that we go through them for a refund, which I did, but I was hoping the restaurant would take note and pay more attention when packing the order for missing items. Was excited to eat here for the first time and happy to see that had vegan egg as an alternative. My friend ordered the avocado toast and i got a scramble with vegan egg. The avocado toast came out fairly quick and looked great. I encouraged my friend to eat as my food was taking a bit longer. Well i waited and waited and waited some more, my friend by this time finished his meal and after 30 min of waiting, they came out to tell me and i the vegan egg wasn't available. I had no problem choosing another item but sincerely confused about why it took them so long to even tell me. Such a horrible experience, i got a refund and got out of there. Been here a few times and decided it's time for a review! This is a perfect brunch spot for after a beach walk or hike! This location has self seating so we got a table pretty soon after arriving. The line to order was rather long though and it took about 20 mins for our food to arrive. The portion sizes for everything were huge! We got the açaí smoothie, chilaquiles, authentic Mexican burrito, and veggie quesadillas. Of everything we ordered the veggie quesadillas were our favorite! They add a ton of veggies inside and not too much cheese. I will say the flavor is pretty moderate... nothing to complain about but also nothing too amazing. This place says "beach life" all over it. The vibes here are very SoCal, as it's not only right by the ocean, but it has basically all outdoor seating, plants everywhere, and a chill vibe that any Californian - or Denverite - can appreciate. My family and I stopped here for the atmosphere on a Sunday morning. We were drawn in by the umbrellas and plants and stayed for the long menu of delicious-looking food. We must have got here just in time, because this placed filled up super quickly with a long line at the counter as soon as we sat down. For food, I got the 'Healthy Burrito' - which, don't be fooled by the word 'healthy,' as this thing was HUGE. Healthy must literally mean a healthy serving or a very huge serving because that's what I got. It was filled with soy chorizo, eggs, beans, avocado...and it was very good. I also loved that it came with 2 different types of salsas on the side cause I'm totally a sauce gal. And I'm not one to waste food, but this was one burrito I couldn't finish, especially with the potatoes on the side! As for the other members in my party's food - my dad got the acai bowl which looked amazing (also huge), my boyfriend got the turkey reuben (also very large), and my mom got the three-cheese omelette (also large and cheesy). Here is what else we noticed: - Unlike some of their other locations, you order at a counter when you arrive and then wait for your food to be delivered to your table. - There is a small indoor seating area, but most of the tables are outside. It was great to sit out as the sun went up, but watch out for the birds which are just waiting around to devour an unsuspecting person's food. - The standard menu was pretty similar to the one we'd seen at another location, but there seemed to be fewer breakfast specials. - My son ordered the Mexican burrito, my wife had the Eggs Benedict (with bacon), and I had the ABC Breakfast Quesadilla. All the meals were very good. - The coffee bar was amply stocked, and they gave us a to-go cup so we could fill up for the road. Bottom line: We're glad we finally got around to visiting the original Swami's...we'll be back for sure! read more

I never write reviews, but here goes nothing. My girlfriend and I have lived here for nearly 3 years now and have repeatedly driven by swamis , only to pass it up time and time again. Today we finally decided to give it a chance. The verdict: what a major disappointment. We kept it really simple and easy for them. Two eggs over easy, sausage , and a waffle. It would take some real skill to F this up. It wouldn't take much skill at all to get this very right. We waited a long time before our food finally arrived , and once it did we were greeted with quite literally 2 eggs over easy on a small plate , nothing added . No salt , seasoning , nothing. They just threw two eggs on a plate and that was it. These eggs were bare minimum effort and just the epitome of "fine." The sausage looked like a reheated log of meat straight out of a lunchables packet, with pockets of goo that would ooze out after every second or third bite. I didn't know what this was and I didn't want to think about it. And last, the waffles were about as basic in preparation as possible. It was literally just a plain waffle on a plate, no powdered sugar, no crispy or fine edging. It seemed like dollar store waffle mix put into a waffle iron. It came with two bricks of wrapped butter packets wedged to the side. Given how long this took to prepare, how much it cost, and what was given, I just see no reason why anyone would pay money to have someone prepare this for them instead of making it at home. I walked away feeling like this place , for where it's situated, could just be a thousand times better with only a bit more work. There are so many other great places that work so much harder in the area , that it is disgraceful as a resident here to have this lazy place occupying such prime real estate. Happy to continue to pass up this place in the future with my newfound knowledge. read more

Our group of 3 did not have a good experience today for lunch at this Swami's location, and I'd like the opportunity to use this platform to explain why. I know it has been and continues to be trying times with COVID etc, so I do not like leaving negative reviews if I can help it, but today is an exception. Now, on a positive note, the location is incredible this Swami's is located literally on the 101 and right across the street from the Self-Realization Fellowship and there is a good amount of parking...always a plus. Also, a couple of us in our group have been to numerous Swami locations and usually enjoy the experience. In fact, we picked up my nephew today to specifically take him to this Swami's as he'd never been before. I also really like how dogs are allowed on the outside patio, as we had two of our own. The new protocol has us customers order from outside and take our seats for members of the crew to bring your food and drinks when ready. The customers obeying the distances of each other so it felt nice and safe. We ordered our food and drinks from the helpful young lady at the front counter. We then sat at our table. Once the food was prepared, it took two crew members to bring out three plates, which didn't bother me. What did bother me was that they did not bring out our two side orders. They had walked away without even asking if that was everything, or if it was all okay. After a couple of minutes and no sign of the crew around, I ended up getting up (with mask on) and walking to the side where the staff was inside and mentioned to one of the waitresses that not all of our food was delivered and mentioned to her that it was a salad and a side of bacon and she very nonchalantly said: "yeah, it's on it's way." I almost didn't want to interrupt her and her colleague dancing, but at least they were having fun to the music. So I said thank you and headed back to our table. My lady insisted that my nephew and I start on our meal and not wait for her as her salad (as well as the dogs' bacon) were on their way. About five minutes later, there was still no delivery of the sides, so my lady went to the front counter and asked for a straw and asked the front counter crew member about the sides. She said the staff were dancing in the back. The front counter girl checked our order , and didn't know what was going on, so my lady informed her that I'd already been told that they were on the way. By this point, her omelette had cooled down and my nephew and I felt bad about being nearly finished with our plates. The food that we had was good, as expected. I looked back, I saw the staff member that told me the sides were on their way was sitting at a middle table with her colleague picking away at her colleague's food..not sure if they were both on a break or not. So, then the front counter girl nicely brought over the side salad and said that the bacon was on its way. I told her the situation and how dissatisfied we were, and mentioned to her the staff member that I thought was a liability. She apologised and said she could offer me a drink for the inconvenience; I said no thank you, as we all already had drinks, but appreciated the offer. But seriously though, a free drink for her colleague ruining our whole meal experience?! She then brought out the bacon, but at this point we were all so put off that my lady didn't really end up eating most of her cold omelette. My nephew did finish off the bacon though...hungry hard-working University Student! :-) A couple minutes later, unrelated to us personally, the same staff girl ended up accidentally dropping a BLT plate over a dog at the table next to us. Seemed to be mainly teenage staff working, and that's not alway a bad thing, but in today's case it was a fail. There didn't seem to be anyone to speak with about our negative experience. NOT ONCE did a member of staff come over to check if all was okay the meal, not offered condiments, no check for refills, and this is something that always happens at every Swami's we go to. We don't expect a lot when dining out, but the fundamentals are essential. To top it off, and not sure of this is a recent occurrence, but there is a hole in the middle of the outside patio deck. There is a caution sign up, but definitely a hazard. All in all, a very poor experience at this Swami's location and I don't see us going back there any time soon as there are many other nice eateries in the area. read more

Everyone just looking down no response I went to sit back down and wait another 20 minutes before our food was brought out without an apology or explanation. I will not recommend or return. A simple hey I'm sorry the ticket was lost or anything would be appropriate. You all need to work on your customer service skills. Even if you can tell a customer is upset don't ignore it! We ordered coffee and took full advantage of their coffee setup of 12 different brews with as much as you want to drink! We ordered the breakfast quesadilla (5 stars!), the strawberry-banana pancakes (5 stars!), both Acai bowls (4.5 stars) and a Belgium waffle with eggs & bacon (4.5 stars). The host automatically noticed us And asked if we prefer to be seated inside or outside of course I want to be sitting outside because I love it. Inside was nice too but it was such a beautiful day I wanted to be outside. The friendliness of the staff was great. The quality of the coffee at its freshest. Lots of option here if you get coffee or tea and there's no disappointment with that. Let me just say the food OMG so amazing the French toast to the Mexican food all the flavors were so delicious.
