We became customers of Swedish Motors almost 2 years ago when introduced by good friends and Volvo owners in Brookline, who have been long time customers. We have a wonderful 2005 9-3 Saab and not long before that, Boston Volvo quit servicing Saabs altogether. Armen (as well as Hunt) is extremely knowledgeable and astute, but also they will advise you if they think it really needs to be fixed. In the case of new parts being inserted into this older car, Armen told me that the reason I was having problems turning my key after having work done at Boston Volvo some years before, was because of the way the new part interlocked (or didn't quite) with the older part. He saved me a lot of anxiety with reassurance about the reason why, and that it wasn't likely to ever fail again. He also diagnosed a sticky window situation as one that needed more urgent attention, and tracked down some worn out hose parts that were giving problem. There was a time when I frequented Boston's Volvo STEALERSHIP for service and I had no issues other than their cost. However, from the front office to the service bay, you'll be disappointed. I found Swedish Motors after exhausting all other Metro Boston options and I can tell I found my expert. Bottom line is, when someone fixes something that you hadn't originally come in for service for, that's what an expert does. Armen is a true expert at what he does. read more

I was tired of the local Volvo dealerships, having had some bad and just bonehead experiences there, so I tried Swedish Motors. I was having trouble with my battery and had some warning lights coming up on the dash, and a grating noise from the brakes. My experience at dealerships is they always find something wrong and it usually ends up costing at least a couple hundred bucks. Not here. They called me within hours of drop off, we went over what they were going to do, a couple hours later I picked it up, they gave me some advice about a repair/maintenance I'll need in about 5k miles, showed me on the car exactly what they did, and didn't do. And when I went to pay, let's just say the Uber to the garage cost a lot more than the repairs. They've earned a customer for life. Just good people. read more

Very good service. They're a bit on the pricey side (in my opinion) but you get what you pay for. They explain things clearly and they are responsive. I like how they are located close to the T (B Green Line) so I can drop the car off and just hop on the T to go home. Armen is a nice guy. They'll take good care of you. read more

My wife and I have been taking our two Volvo station wagons (1998 and 2004) to Armen at Swedish Motors for over six years. We both have the highest regard for his skill, knowledge, his friendly customer service, and his overall honesty. Some service is routine, in which cases it is really nice to know you will get your car back same day if he says you will, and that the job will be done right and at a fair price. Some mechanics don't get these basics right, and it can be really inconvenient when they don't get to the work they promise and schedule. Some repairs are downright subtle, and this is where Armen's experience and intelligence can really count. He has diagnosed and fixed a number of such issues for us, such as when one of our vehicles would randomly cut out after warming up. It turned out 25c seal had worn out, and oil was leaking onto the cam sensor causing the timing to get way out of synch. This is a small shop, Armen works with I think 2 or 3 other techs. I really like that I get to discuss the service plans with the owner, and that he does a lot of the technical work himself, and keeps a personal eye on all of it. He specializes in Volvo and Saab, however he will happily repair other makes of cars. The Comm Ave address of the shop is a little misleading, the entrance is on a small alley one accesses off Naples Road. Heading East on Comm Ave from Packard's Corner, take a right onto Naples, and the very first right onto the alley, you will see the small shop in front of you. read more

Formally RPM Automotive owned by Ross. This new owner is terrible. Ross (RIP) would be heartbroken. Was a longtime customer of RPM. Now Swedish Motors, I had a horrible experience here. The owner made repairs (car was undiagnosed when brought in), never informed the customer of the issue or costs, slapped us with a $2700 bill and refused to acknowledge his mistake. In business for something like two decades, it started as a Volvo shop and subsequently expanded to Saabs. I've been using them for probably half that time. They are fairly priced unlike the big name shops, know what they are talking about, are transparent and honest - and keep older cars going miraculously. As times have changed, they've changed. They amazingly find parts for older cars... and have expanded to service a broad range of foreign cars. I depend on them and will continue to. Since moving to Boston I had difficulty finding an auto repair shop that I felt comfortable taking my 2006 Volvo S40 to. So I turned to Yelp and found Swedish Motors. I had a little difficulty finding the place because it is hidden in a little ally but Armen was nice enough to guide me there on the phone. My car needed its 60,000 mile tune up and he was very good about getting the job done quickly. When I came to pick up my car I was pleasantly surprised that he had washed my car! Not many small auto repair places take the time to do that. I definitely plan on returning for all of my future oil changes and car needs. He's a very nice, hard working, honest guy and that's exactly what is hard to find in a big city like Boston. read more

I have a Saab 9-3 from 2003 and I wouldn't trust it with any other mechanic in the area. I love this place, the costumer service is great and they specialized in Saabs and Volvo. It is rare to leave a mechanic without having the unsettling feeling that you have been scammed and overcharged somehow. The prices are great (Specially if you compare it to Saab dealer of the area) and the owner (Armen) will do his best to get you the best price available on the pieces. A couple times he gave me an estimate for the work and then he called me to tell me that it was going to be cheaper than he expected because he was able to rescue one of the parts that I already had in the car. When was the last time you got a call from your mechanic to ask you for less money?! Anyways, I really trust these guys, I feel happy with the work and especially very safe in the car when I leave. Armen and his team are about as good as it gets. Friend suggested I go there. Friend had used Swedish Motors for so long that when his car was at the end of its life, he gave the car to Armen. That tells you something. They took such good care of me and my car, a 2006 Jaguar Estate wagon, which they said needed more work than it was worth. But they did everything they could to find rebuilt parts to lower the cost, figure out a way to do the least amount of work - and they did it with patience. Could not say enough good things about these guys. I am so happy to have found this shop! It's true that Armen is the best. I moved back to Boston after 9 years in Seattle, where I absolutely loved my Volvo mechanic. I was sad to leave them (Daisywagen) and not looking forward to finding a new mechanic in Boston. Enter Armen. I've been to Swedish Motors twice and Armen is very honest and an excellent mechanic. I bought a '98 V70 wagon and after he replaced some parts, he showed me the old part versus a new one, so I could see how the old ones were worn down. Yesterday I brought my car in for an oil change, even through I had only driven for about 1500 miles, but it had been over 4 months since my last oil change. I also wanted him to check new wipers I put on, since they seemed loose. He called me mid-day to say that he put new wipers on, but that I didn't need an oil change - I had another 1500 miles to go and the oil and fluids were still clean. When I picked my car up after work, he said he'd charge me for the wipers when I next came in for an oil change. Amazing! I highly recommend Swedish Motors! read more

I wrote a review back in 2015 but for some inexplicable reason, yelp has decided not to post it so I am going to try again with a more recent review. AND IT HASN'T CHANGED!!! Armen and all the people who work with and for him are fabulous. They know what they're doing and you can completely trust their workmanship and fairness. On those rare occasions when I have been stuck somewhere and need service on my SAAB, it is always a disappointment and I am reminded, once again, why this place is so special. I am a SAAB addict and when it looked like my much loved 2002 SAAB wagon wasn't going to last much longer, Armen found another one for me. It runs beautifully and he and Hunt made the transition seamless for me. I should also add that they kept my old SAAB going probably long past it's due date. Very simply, I have found a great shop for my 2008 Saab 9-3! I needed a windshield washer pump replaced. Armen and Mike did it quickly and at a price that was lower than I had anticipated, due to estimates from 2 other shops that were 1. appx $225 and 2. $125. Armen charged me less than $85!
