I love love love this place! It's adorable, central to Davis and just offering delicious options. I'm pretty boring and my favorite is the plain frozen custard with chocolate sauce. However, the frozen ice is great too! I have done a couple different flavors and you can't go wrong. My boyfriend got the root beer float the other day which features root beer flavored ice with frozen custard. SO good! I will have to get that next time. The prices here are really great and they do awesome deals. On Wednesdays it's buy one get one free! Service here is also always so sweet and helpful. They let me try a little bit of everything before I eventually decide on plain custard! read more

Crepes and frozen custards...this is the best combo ever created. Davis is such a fantastic place for food and dessert. Sweet and shavery was something we discovered thanks to yelpers of course! The girls truly enjoyed as did the adults and their most delectable crepes. The girls adored a mix of slush topped w/ creamy custards. Very affordable, staff is keenly friendly and accommodating w/ questions and recommendations. Also very patient w/ rambunctious three and five year olds. Friendly service and awesome desserts! You can order just plain frozen custard (there's different flavors), frozen custard w/ Italian ice, or crepes! Although I cannot tell the difference between frozen custard and froyo for the life of me, I do enjoy it with the Italian ice! The first time I came here, my friend had just come back from the east coast and said frozen custard was all the rage over there. One of the workers was nice enough to make us a custom order of custard surrounded by strawberries, and my friend and I got to catch up in the cozy, comfortable setting. I ordered a starburst the second time around, but sort of changed the flavors because they had run out of some. The strawberry and tangerine with custard was delicious, and the small was enough to fill me up post-dinner. Although the bar stools and tables are best for groups of 2-4, a crowd of almost 20 people can take up two-thirds of the room and not obstruct the entryway. Simply decorated and brightly lit. Nice servers. The Italian shaved ice was good, not overly sweet. I wasn't blown away by the 2 flavors I sampled, mango and strawberry, which according to my server are the 2 most popular flavors. I ended up getting a medium of the mango and strawberry guava with vanilla custard. The vanilla custard tasted like a slightly thicker version of McDonald's soft serve. Don't get me wrong, it was still good. Just expected something better from here. If and when I come back I'm only getting a small Italian ice, no custard. I liked how they layered it though: custard, Italian ice, custard. Too bad I didn't like it enough to want extra custard on the bottom. The bf got a strawberry and nutella crepe that he thoroughly enjoyed. Good amount of flavors for the Italian ice. Disappointed that there are only 2 custard flavors. I've tried one other Italian ice and custard place (Confetti in SoCal) that had at least twice the amount of flavors for both with hands down better custard. Yay to self-serve water. Stamp card with buy 9 get one small ice parfait is a plus. Crepes get you a stamp too. Overall first experience...underwhelmed. :( I had a hard time finishing my medium ice parfait. Not to say this place is bad, but not good enough that I would come here at all often especially with all the other dessert places in downtown Davis. read more

This business is so cute! The cashiers were very nice and helpful as well. They sell frozen flavored ice with flavored custard on top and crepes. I've only tried the ice and custard though. It's not a bad price and is a light dessert! Cute place to take a friend or family visiting from out of town. A small cup will suffice. I ordered a medium because a small looked tiny but they jam pack their cups. I'm giving them 3 stars because this place reminds me of Gunthers in Sacramento and the freezes they sell. They aren't exactly the same but enough that I'd compare the two concepts and have to say Gunthers does it better. If this place just added more flavor to their ice it'd be great. Definitely a cute spot to check out though. read more

Sweet & Shavery is one of my favorite places to get dessert in Davis. The custard and shaved ice is so. dang. good. I love all the fruity flavors of ice (cherry, mango, strawberry, coconut, passion fruit, Y'ALL I'VE HAD THEM ALL). They are super refreshing on those hot Davis days. The parfait (the custard and shaved ice mix) is the perfect mix of creamy and sweet. The store itself is super cute and welcoming. The only thing is that it can get somewhat crowded when it's super busy. I don't blame them for it though because why wouldn't you want to come in and play games and sit and enjoy your sweet treat. The prices are super reasonable, and they have stamp cards (I'm SUCH a stamp card kind of girl) so there's literally no reason to not go. I've honestly never had the crepes myself because I cannot not get the shaved ice and custard when I go. But my roommate got the nutella and strawberry crepe the other day and loved it and I was salivating just looking at it. read more

I've always loved sweet and shavery. They let my dog inside and that is a big reason why I am writing this review. The staff is friendly, helpful and patient. This time I had coconut and banana which was tropical and fruity. I loved it. The shaved ice is sweet and flavorful and the dole whip is creamy. This place is great! The custard is so creamy and delightful. There are a lot of options to choose from. We tried the twixx bar and it was very chocolaty and tasted just like a twixx. The mango Lassi had a great blend and the vanilla custard is perfect. They have great service and upbeat music. I will visit again when I'm in town or maybe drive all the way from Natomas. read more

YUMMY! I love frozen custard and italian ice. They let you sample the flavours of italian ice, and the employees are super patient because I am really indecisive when there are so many good flavours. I ended up getting a rose flavoured italian ice and blue raspberry topped with frozen custard. It was SO GOOD. I don't even know what else to say. Definitely stop by here if you're in the area. read more

I think this is a very original (at least from my foodie experiences in the Bay Area/Davis) idea and well executed idea. The shaved ice is amazing, and with the combination of the frozen custard, it is literally heaven in your mouth. The plus is that the only thing that's truly fattening is the custard and the sugar in the shaved ice. It's pretty low calorie in comparison to ice cream and great on a hot day!! The default menu items are really tasty as well. My friend had the airhead (sour apple ice, blue raspberry ice with Vanilla custard) and while it didn't taste like an airhead, I thought it tasted like a gummy bear. The combination I got was very tasty as well. I think the customer service experience was pretty good as well. Will definitely be making a pit stop again the next time I'm in Davis! read more

Sweet and Shavery is a must-visit whenever I'm up in Davis. I've gone here multiple times even in the dead of winter and I'll continue to go here as long as this store stands. The chocolate custard is so rich and the Italian ice is light, they balance each other out perfectly. Their crepes are also great! You can customize your own custard + ice or choose from their menu, same goes with the crepes. read more

This was the perfect place for a sweet and icy snack on a sunny day in Davis! The strawberry Italian ice and vanilla custards really hit the spot for me when I needed something to cool me down after being in the scorching hot sun all day! The Italian ice wasn't too sweet and the frozen custards was so creamy and smooth! The two really pair well together! Really enjoy coming here after dinner. We always seem to find space for sweet and shavery, even if we are stuffed. My go to is the Big Stick, which is cherry and pineapple with vanilla custard. Reminds me of the popsicle with the same name having a baby with a creamsicle. The custard is always soooooo good. Some of the ice flavors though can be hit and miss. My recommendation is to stick with the fruit flavors, as they seem to be the best tasting to me. I really didn't care for the chocolate ice (it's plain to me), but the chocolate custard is a different story. My tip would be if you want a chocolate kick to your dessert opt for the chocolate custard and then add the fruit flavors. read more

Great place for cold, refreshing treats! I had the Mango Lassi, which is on the popular combo list--mango Italian ice and vanilla frozen custard, with condensed milk drizzled on top. It was delicious, but only 4/5 stars because the combination of vanilla frozen custard and condensed milk was a bit too sweet. My friend also thought the vanilla frozen custard alone was too sweet. Overall, this place is inexpensive and yummy. There is a great selection of Italian ice, and I believe that some flavors are seasonal. The frozen custard is available in vanilla and chocolate. They also make crepes, which I might have to come back and try in the future! read more

Wasn't as smooth, kind of hard.. strawberry lemonaid is okay (boyfriend couldn't last strawberry), he liked the lime. Mango flavor doesn't strike my memory.. Got the Sunset, but they were out of regular strawberry (strawberry + mango + custard), I think if there was actual strawberry, it would've made a difference. Boyfriend liked it though. [: But I wouldn't say he loved it. read more

It was a great combo. I really liked the texture of the frozen custard. I wish they had more flavors besides vanilla and chocolate. There were a lot of Italian ice flavors though. The half itallian ice half custard option is money. There are so many mix and match options. They said that anything with strawberry is a hit, but I opt for mango sorbet with custard. Delish and photogenic! Cute decor and nice service. I like this place! read more

This place always hits the spot and a small is perfect for me after dinner! Love the tartiness of the Italian ice with the sweet custard to balance everything out. From the first time that I was here, their small seemed smaller than my last visit. Also, the girl serving my boyfriend and I seemed super annoyed and unfriendly. I'm sorry ..? Love the interior, cute and friendly as well as hip and homey feeling! Every table has fake flowers for decoration and I love the cute booth seatings next to the wall. Make sure to check the Davis calendar or green books for their great deals! Such as buy one and get one for equal or lesser value! Must get the custard (: A little pricey for the small though & they charge 25 cents on card. read more

I love this place so much! It's open fairly late, until around 11pm. I usually go to get the Airhead in a medium with Cherry. I also love getting the rainbow. The ice is delicious, but what sets this place apart is the custard. It's super smooth and creamy, blends really well with the Italian ice. The service is very friendly and they're quick too! I never have to wait more than a minute or two to get my order in. One note though, the parking lot can get crowded and you have to pay for parking if it's before 6pm! read more

This place is truly frozen treat perfection. Food: Large Ice Parfait i.e. Frozen Custard + Italian Ice Sour Apple - Sour Blue Raspberry - Sour Watermelon - Mango ($5) Vibe: Adorable, colorful, whimsical. It's a bright spot on a Davis night. I felt like I was in a coloring book, but a little happy never hurts! Service: Staff was patient and friendly with us while we looked over lists and list of flavors. Kindly offered samples without us having to ask. Highlight: The food experience as a whole. The frozen custard was extra creamy and the italian ice was incredibly flavorful. Better than the much-loved Flavor Brigade in Oakland. I will absolutely make a stop anytime I'm in the area. You better believe I copped a stamp card. Not to mention, the $5 price tag made the experience that much better. Lowlight: The fact that I don't live closer to Davis so I can indulge more. So bummed I forgot to take a picture! I realized after we had finished half of our dessert.. but I'll be back soon to fulfill my sweet tooth cravings! Thank you for being open during this pandemic! Been here a few times. They offered ice cream macarons for a while, but I always missed them and now they're no longer serving them. Good selection of shaved ice and the frozen custard is delicious. I'm lazy and the fact that they have combos already printed out for you are great. PS banana shaved ice may sound good, but don't be fooled. Not all things should be made into shaved ice. That being said, their fruit flavors are the best. Flavors like coffee and chocolate are just strange as an ice. Their crepes fall pretty flat. The crepe itself is pretty limp despite just being made and the toppings are pretty skimpy. The BYOC option is a great idea though. Would I be back? If I were craving shaved ice. But probably not. read more

The vanilla custard was awesome! I'm normally a chocolate person, but I'm glad I abstained from the chocolate custard and went for the more traditional flavor. I ended up ordering a small mango shaved ice with vanilla custard. The small was definitely enough for one person, in fact, I could easily see multiple people sharing an order. The only reason why this review isn't five stars is because of the flavor availability, or lack thereof. We were looking for chocolate, banana, and salted caramel shaved ice but they were out of all three flavors. The service was very good and I will definitely try and return to this location. read more

I was stuffed after lunch, but my friend and I still managed to make a bit of room to check this place out. Moderately busy on a Friday afternoon. We shared a medium (we wanted to try more flavors) ice parfait with strawberry, lychee and mango Italian ices with vanilla frozen custard. The custard was affectionately likened to that of McDonald's soft serve by my friend; it was creamy and sweet with a hint of vanilla. The ices were all super fruity and delicious; I liked the lychee the best, though the mango was a close second. Three stars. Not that unique if you think about the flavor (it's like shaved ice with ice cream), but still tasty (plus cool bc of that presentation). read more

Sweet and Shavery has brought classic East Coast desserts to the great town of Davis, California! Italian Ice, or water ice, is made fresh in store. A classic Philly frozen sweetened dessert made with primary water and fresh fruit, fruit concentrates, purees, or food flavorings. The consistency is similar to a mix of sorbet and shaved ice. It is made in the same process as ice cream. Our Frozen Custard is a cold dessert similar to soft serve ice cream, with a denser and richer mouth feel. Custard is made with egg yolks in addition to cream and sugar. Less air is pumped in as it beats, thus yielding a creamier and richer product. Here you can get a unique and tasty dessert that people will enjoy every time!

It's a bit of a drive from Sacramento due to the traffic because of the construction. It was worth the drive to try something new. I've never had this type of Taiwanese shaved ice before. At least I think it's Taiwanese. It was described as frozen milk shaved like shaved ice. It's very fluffy and not chunky like regularly snow cones you get at fairs and festivals. This shaved ices don't compare. I loved the texture of the shaved ice in our Mango Bingsoo(Regular). The shaved ice was covered with mangos and dressed with sweetened condensed milk. I wish there was a larger portion of the condensed milk to pour on top of the plain ice when you run out of mangos. For two of us the large would have been too much. Restrooms- They have one unisex bathroom in back. Thankfully you don't need a code to go in. It was clean and well supplied. Wonder if this is the most traveled pie outside of shipping it across country.

I was brought to this place by my girlfriend while visiting for Picnic day and as soon as I saw their unique menu, I knew I had to give it a try. I like that they choose to make their ice cream in store rather than buying it in bulk or ordering it from a factory. Everyday of the week, they have some sort of deal or happy hour sale going on which is worth it to schedule into your day. They have many different flavors and toppings and they do allow sampling! For those who cannot have dairy, they also have dairy free options which is why this place is a go to for large groups or people new to Davis! There are options for everyone. One thing to note, they do not have seating inside and oftentimes they have long lines. But they do have seating right outside under street lights. On busy days, staff are alwasy working as fast as they can and they are always happy to help. The best way to avoid the lines? Go before meals or go earlier in the day :) after dinner is always the busiest time. In the spring, you can also submit a flavor you'd like them to make and if it makes it into the running, it will enter the month of bracketology where visitors try new flavors created and the favorite will be added to the menu for a while. If you are new or just stopping by, I would reccommend trying this place! If you find a flavor you really love, you can always take it home in a pint!

The menu is smaller than I imagined, but they still had quite a few things and quite a variety of different preparations. I like that! The guy who helped us seemed inpatient and over it. I chalked it up to it being a new location and perhaps having to deal with crowds, but it was off putting. Came back again as the husband loves it, and they were closed at 7:40 am on a Friday. There are donuts out, though not fully stocked. Open sign off, no note on the door of when they may reopen. Many potential customers coming and leaving after seeing they're randomly closed. We do see workers in the back, so I'd suggest next time putting something on the door so customers understand what's going on. I hope they are successful as we really need options in Woodland. I also love they have gluten friendly options which is HUGE. Just need some staff training and I think they'll be gold.

They have a rotating menu of hand-pies, so don't go with a specific one in mind. All the ones I've had are tasty, but for the price, I wish they were bigger. I usually need two to fill up. I do understand that a lot of this is likely due to the hefty booth fee the Market charges. The folks running it are very friendly. The last time I was there, I couldn't decide between the Mario (Italian sausage, marinara and mozzarella) and Luigi (cremini, pesto and mozzarella). Both were excellent, with flavorful filling and a flaky crust that also held up to the filling. The caramelized onion and Gruyère also sounded tempting. In the past I've had a mushroom and cheese pie, and some sort of chicken filling that I don't recall (not that it wasn't memorable -- it was just several years ago).

They always have a couple savory and a couple sweet pie options, so my partner and I will get lunch and dessert in a one-stop trip! There is rarely a line, since the pie are premade and kept warm (or cold for some of the dessert pies), ready to be enjoyed! You just order, and they hand you the food, with little stamps on them to indicate the flavor. The workers are super friendly, and answer any questions you may have. Handheld operates out of quite possible the most adorable food-truck I've ever seen or ordered from, with a vintage, old-fashioned homemade delivery service vibes, and I was first drawn to the look of the truck way back before I even knew what the sold. But boy was I impressed once I read their menu and tried their food. They always have a couple vegetarian options, as well as a couple with meat, so there is something for everyone, and it's all worth it. Do yourself a favor, and stop by the next time you are at the farmers market in need of a snack or some lunch :)

Found this place when I was browsing boba shops in Davis. I had to do a double take of the prices…read morewhen I saw their menu. $1.99 matcha soft serve and $5 (and under) drinks?! In this economy?! What is this? Pre-pandemic times? Nowadays boba shops charge $6 for a small drink! But Bingxue has a bucket size drink for $6.99! Which is the most expensive item on the menu. Their cheapest drink was the jasmine tea for $1.99! Are they a Mixue competitor? Maybe. The boo and I decided to check out Bingxue on a Saturday afternoon. There was a huge bobo bear outside holding ice cream which caught our eyes. The shop is small and quaint with a few bar/round tables and seating. There was an option to order from a kiosk or from a human. The menu is pretty simple. They have a handful of fruit teas, milk teas and smoothies as well as their soft serves but I don't think they have it available for the soft opening yet. We both ordered fruit drinks since it was a warm day. I got the refreshing lemon grapefruit tea and my boo got the mango passionfruit tea. I also ordered some drinks to go for my friends--brown sugar milk tea and a strawberry jasmine tea. I like how you could adjust the ice and sugar level. We all did 70% sweet with less ice. The total came out to just under $20! If it were Sharetea or happy lemon it would've cost way over $20. We didn't have to wait too long for our order. The bobarista called our number and asked if we wanted a bag which he nicely placed our drinks in. The bag design was fancy, too! Orange and white seem to be their color scheme. He then grabbed a handful of bobo bears and I was able to choose one and he even offered one to my boo as well! My boo tried his drink first and was amazed how good it was. I tried it after and damn, it made me want to run off with his drink! It had good notes mango and passionfruit with pulp and a very notable but not overpowering tea taste. 5/5! I tried my grapefruit lemon drink and was like whoa, that's refreshing indeed. It tasted like grapefruit lemonade. I didn't know if it even had a tea in it. I would get it again tho. It had grapefruit bits and lemon slices inside. I didn't finish it until the next day so the lemon rind made the drink slightly bitter 4.5/5. My friend really enjoyed the strawberry jasmine. He liked the strong tea taste and good strawberry flavaflav. He initially wasn't sure about the lemon slices hanging in there bc he's not a citrus lover but he said it paired well with the drink! My other friend had the brown sugar milk tea and she said it was creamy and delicious! I was skeptical at first with the low prices, I really thought they would be subpar diluted drinks but I was surprised how good the drinks were. I'm kinda a boba/fruit tea aficionado and I've tried the premium tea places like Heytea, Yi fang, Taning, Chicha San Chen I feel like I would choose Bingxue over any of them! The taste and the price is right! Would I come here again? Helll yeah! I wanna try their soft serve next time and try their matcha drinks. The shop was cute and the employee who helped us was warm and friendly. They're in a great area for college students. They're a few minutes walk from Philz Coffee and across from First Northern Bank. Check them out if you want to ball on a budget and want a good drink!
