Check the dates of all the candy bars your purchase! Got one bar that was 5 months expired, it was a gift and when they opened it the chocolate was white coated and then we realized it was expired. They won't even replace it...sucks because I like to support local businesses even though it's cheaper elsewhere. read more

My last positive review was in regard to the previous owners. I've been several times since it's changed hands because it holds such nostalgia for my Daughter and I and it has really gone down hill in my personal opinion. The current owner ignored me for 15 minutes at the checkout while she spoke with another downtown business owner after she had witnessed me standing there waiting. She also wasn't exactly polite when she finally came back to check me out. The last time I went in was for Valentine's Day candy about two weeks prior to the holiday and the store was a mess. They hardly had a selection of anything. The staff did not say hello. The gelato looked disheveled and unappetizing. We ended up not making a purchase. read more

My last visit at Sweet Chico was fabulous, and I feel compelled to share my experience. Most recently I took my daughters in for gelato, and they did not shy away from the free-sample counter. The owner was more than happy to oblige our gluttony. It was clear to me that the owner valued our business and strives to foster repeat business. We will definitely be back for the delicious gelato and great customer service. As an aside, I read through many of the previous comments, and I think some individuals allowed personal issues to dictate their "review". It seems like there are people determined to find an issue with Sweet Chico. In my experience, if you're looking for a problem, you're probably going to find one. read more

This candy shop is so beautiful. I have worked in at least 10 different states, and I used to wander around the city at each location I worked in. I have never seen a candy shop like this. The gelato is absolutely delicious, I prefer this over Shubert's ice cream. I really enjoyed the coffee flavored gelato in particular. I was lucky enough to chat with the owner as she was serving me the gelato. I was absolutely impressed by her knowledge of the gelato making process and the care she put into the gelato, the candies, and the vigilance she exercised when selecting, evaluating and reevaluating the candies she displayed at her shop. So there's a myriad of different candies from all over the world, that are collaged together along the border to form a wreath that nests the gelato station located at the center of the store. It's the first thing you see when you walk in. What is really cool is that the gelato station glows like an orb at the center and candy wreath swirls around it. It is like holiday decor, but instead of dedicating to a holiday, the shop is dedicated to representing the richness of each product, from conception, to how its manufactured If you're visiting the area this is place you need to visit. Took my grandson in for what I thought was going to be a fun grandma grandson day! BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER WALKING IN WITH A CHILD!! this business believe it or not it's not child friendly! My grandson out of sheer joy was a literal kid in a candy factory as we walked in!! He ran to the gelato counter and said he wanted 6 scoops! Lol the young lady and young man behind the counter literally made me so upset making comments about my grandson in A VERY RUDE WAY! Saying he doesn't need more sugar?! Like really! Disrespectful, unkind, and completely unprofessional. I don't normally leave bad reviews, but this experience was unbelievable. I brought my kids in for what was supposed to be a fun treat, and instead we were met with nasty attitudes from the staff the second we walked in. My youngest was crying (he's a toddler -- it happens), and instead of showing an ounce of patience or basic human decency, the employees were glaring at us like we were ruining their day. One of them even made a comment under their breath. Sorry, I didn't realize a crying child in an ICE CREAM SHOP was such a crime. When we asked politely for a few samples to help my other kid decide, the girl behind the counter sighed dramatically, rolled her eyes, and practically tossed the sample spoon at us like we were a huge inconvenience. God forbid we actually try the $6 scoop before buying it! No one smiled. No one was kind. We felt judged, unwelcome, and completely disrespected. Honestly, it ruined our whole day. If your staff can't handle families or basic customer service, they shouldn't be working in a place that's supposed to bring people joy. Do better. Never coming back. read more

We use to love coming in once a week as a treat for the kids. The last two times that we've come haven't been pleasant. We feel like we aren't welcomed. It's been the same cashier the last two times and both times he was rude and cold. I asked for help getting something out of the case and he spoke to us like we're stupid. Before he the transaction was finished, he was already walking away. I wish i would have just said never mind and left without buying anything. I do wish there was pricing on items in the store. And if things need to be weighed to be rung up, there should be some kind of notice near those products so the consumer knows. A price list for items would be extremely helpful, is not individually priced. read more

Stopped in here Thursday @ 2:30pm with a friend after we had lunch at Broadway Heights. Wanted something for dessert and walked right by this gorgeous candy store! I love the layout of this place, it's filled with so many different options! Ranging anywhere from the vintage candy some of us remember as kids to the super unique candy from Austria that you never knew about. We ordeded some of the tasty treats from behind the glass as they looked irresistible! We tried a Tiramisu Truffle, a Créme Brûlée Truffle, some Milk Chocolate Bark and four Milk Chocolate Sea Salted Caramels! Honestly, the price was totally worth it; I was pleasantly surprised. We love this store and have always brought our little girl in when we are downtown for a, "special treat." Recently, my daughter has been earning her own money and we are teaching her some basic fundamentals. The store has decided to take the price tags off of items recently. It creates a huge problem because when she has "x" amount of money, she doesn't know what she can afford to buy. There is frequently only 1 person behind the counter so price checking everything my daughter wants to buy is quite a hassle for us and very non productive for the employee! Maybe if scanners were offered the, "no price tag," tactic might work? It was a place we liked to go to teach her how to use her own money with friendly staff. But now it's just a long drawn out disappointment for us and our kid. So sad read more

Got some fun items and liked the pumpkin spice caramel (in the display case at the cashier). Employees were friendly, but were chatting the whole time and had to be waved over every time. Prices are high and most items don't have labels, so you have to ask about every single item. Fun to look though. Was disappointed there weren't more unique local goodies. read more

We just had a birthday party for my 10 year old today! It was so amazing and the staff was so accommodating and welcoming. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday experience. I cannot praise Sweet Chico Confections enough for their outstanding service.  It started about a week ago when I received a generic distribution E-mail from them about their service adjustments in response to COVID-19.  They offered the opportunity to phone in or E-mail an order to be gathered by them with curbside pickup.  I recalled us having a gift card, & with Easter coming up I figured it would be a good opportunity to finalize our Easter shopping for the kiddos.  I E-mailed back asking for their sugar-free options.  Nancy responded with a list of their offerings.  I responded with my choices while also mentioning I was Easter shopping for 2 kiddos.  She assembled the order without delay & let me know when it was ready.  She even followed up with a phone call to me to let me know that if I was going to be late to let them know & they'd be happy to stay late for me to ensure I received my order.  I called when I was on my way & smiling Nancy was out in a jiffy after I pulled up.  I peeked into the bag as she went inside to run my card & was shocked to find such care that was given in packing my request.  Rather than just putting the candies into the standard bulk candy packaging, she had instead used Easter treat bags tied carefully with a ribbon into a bow.  She even sneaked in a truffle just for me, for no reason other than being out of the kindness of her heart.  Nancy, you truly made my week with how much you went above & beyond to make this such a pleasant experience.  I am a hardcore Amazon/online shopper, but moving forward I will definitely use Sweet Chico Confections for my family's candy needs!  Thank you! read more

An older man was at the front counter and was extremely rude to me after I simply asked if they were hiring. This man went on a five minute rant and began making assumptions about me as a college student and gave me a list of reasons as to why he would NOT hire me. One of the many things he told me was "our store is the busiest during the holidays and I assume you would want to go home for the full two weeks to see your family for Christmas. If I were to hire you and you go home don't expect a job when you return." To my surprise, I was speaking to the owner!! Sir, are you aware that your business is right next to a college campus? Is that how you talk to every single student that is simply just asking if you are hiring? Does your whole staff consist of people who are Chico native? He KNEW that he was being incredibly rude to me because he stated twice, "I know I am being a jerk." Next time, please just politely say that you are not hiring so my time is not wasted. Last year we went in on Christmas preview was pretty pleased with the store. Went to purchase some clusters, when they rung it up it was twice as much as the price said. Questioned it, got I assume manager involved and reluctantly agreeing the price was marked wrong and adjusted. Just went in the other day to buy jelly beans and other items and on the wall it said mix and match 2.49 a pound. We packed up 6 lbs and some M&M peanut, sour gummies. Got to the register and was told it was almost 80 bucks. When I asked about it I was quickly told it was 10. Per lb. WOW! This seems to be a tactic to mislead pricing. The girl at the counter did not even seem surprise, did not try to explain and never even looked at what I was saying. Like she's heard it all before. Come to find out the sour gummies were not sour. Will never go back. A shame it's a cute little store but your pricing tactics are horrible. read more

Went into Powell's on Thursday (9/6) and employee HEATHER was very rude to me and my friend. She was eyeing us the entire time we were in there, even going as far to fix the candy that was right next to us- all while watching us like a hawk. I had a feeling she thought we were stealing because every time I would look at her she was staring right at me. She customer serviced us multiple times and each time we told her we were fine. I don't know if it had anything to due with the fact that I am a person of color but I was very offended and I will never spend my money here again. Plus the candy was stale. As one of my Valentine's day gifts to my wife I bought a small assortment of Truffles. They were hand packed in a cute box by both of the friendly owners. My wife loved them.(so did I). My only problem is that I choose the different flavors and I couldn't tell her what I picked. I know it's my fault, but for old people maybe they could be wrapped in little papers with the flavors on them. read more

I have been a loyal customer of this candy store location going back to it's Powell Candy Shop days. I love the selection of candy & nostalgic toys. I've spent a lot of money here over the years & always recommended this store to friends & family but unfortunately, no more. After driving 40 minutes to Chico on a very busy Saturday evening my 5 year old daughter & I stopped in to purchase a $30 Jack in the Box toy & a lot of candy party favors for a birthday party we are attending tomorrow afternoon. After our 40 minute drive my daughter really needed to use the restroom. When I asked the young lady behind the counter if we could use the restroom she said no, and sent us across two very busy crosswalks while my child was doing the "potty dance" on the verge of having an accident in the middle of the store (where we were almost hit by a car as we were crossing). I understand not allowing the bar hoppers to use the restroom but your paying customers with a small child... come on. Please have better judgement than that. When I asked if they still offered children's birthday parties the young lady said yes. I then inquired about the restroom situation for the birthday party attendees and she said the restroom was only open for the birthday parties. Well, we were actually considering having my daughter's 6th birthday party there but that's not happening now. I recommended that the making exceptions for paying customers be brought up to management... after paying & as I was walking away the young lady behind the counter with the curly hair and tan complexion was talking to her coworker about me with the snottiest of looks on her face. Unacceptable! I'm so disappointed because I really love all that the store offers. Usually the customer service here is great but unfortunately this time ruined it for me. read more
