I've passed by Sweet Dough many times but never stopped until recently. They have a large assortment of donuts and other items listed. I had a glazed donut which would have been great if it was not so cold. I ate it outside on the patio so that it could warm up. The taste was good and just what I expected from a yeast donut. The second thing I disliked about the donut is that it was placed in the bag without being wrapped in deli wrapped paper or something similar. I recently discovered this place since there really aren't many places that actually make fresh donuts (I'm assuming they make fresh donuts since it seems like the tools are there on display in their open kitchen as soon as you walk in). Their site doesn't do a good job of explaining whether or not they use organic flour, cage-free eggs, etc or even something as simple as using real whipping cream vs oily stuff. So I'm going to assume they use general grade ingredients with minimal use of unnecessary chemicals. There is a severe lack of fresh baked goods in the Fort Mill area. Grocery chains basically thaw their "baked" goods (much of them are delivered pre-baked) and Dunkin, well, I hate to speak ill of an old friend, but they don't really use the greatest ingredients, aren't as fresh, and aren't as creative with their flavors - but the basics are still good. Back to my new friends - they have different tiered pricing based on basic donuts and going to a more premium product. Their basic donuts are great and come at a fair price. I have a trouble paying for the more premium donuts because I'm weird like that - UNLESS we're talking about their strawberry and whipped cream croissant. Oh my gosh. They've somehow managed to distill rainbows into a fine sugary substance and inject it into these things. Of course it's not listed on their ingredient deck because it's not government mandated. So overall, yes check them out. They also serve breakfast sandwiches and stuff but that's for people who wear socks with sandals. On a serious note, I stay away from chocolate in all commercial/retail situations because unless its ethically sourced (fair trade, slave free, rainforest safe) there's a chance kids or slaves or both had a part in harvesting it - so M&Ms, Reese's, etc know about it, admitted to it, and continue their practices . I'm not at all saying that's where Sweet Dough gets their chocolate, they're probably not aware of the problem and statistics, but it's very prevalent in the marketplace, so I always err on the sod of caution and won't support commercial chocolate. Again - I don't know where they get their chocolate, it could be from very nice people, but just be cautious at other places. read more

These donuts are great! I have gone twice now to try out multiple items on the menu to get a feel as to what is good here. I tried the apple fritter, maple bacon, strawberry and cream croissant donut, and chocolate custard or cream filled (don't really know which one it was). All of which were great. Came in for my first visit and they were out of a lot and found out that they make fresh to order and so I got a few like that. The donuts are good. They are the best local donuts near where I live so I don't have to drive far. I think I enjoyed the cream filled one the most. The fritter was a bit to doughy to my liking. I'm more of a crisp fritter kind of guy. But all that to say that you should try this place out since they are new in town and it is good here. I also will try their breakfast at some point. read more

I love this place with all my heart. it was the first time that me and my friends came to sourdough to eat it's honestly one of the best places I've ever been. the service was outstanding and I got my food in the nick of time. I got the chocolate donut with rainbow sprinkles to represent my gayness that nobody seems to except but you know what? sourdough did. The doughnut was only $14 and sandwich was 15 what a bargain! all of the customers here are very studious and intelligent. My 12 year old exclaimed, "That was the best donut I've ever eaten!" And he said it three times! I think that pretty much sums up how all six of us felt. I really like that we were able to eat breakfast there before having our treats. I had the burrito supreme with sausage and it was much larger than I expected and very tasty. The rest of my family had croissant sandwiches and were also pleased. I also had the banana peanut butter long John, which was amazing! The donuts were obviously made fresh this morning. The filling was a delightful blend of frosting, peanut butter and fresh banana. It had a chocolate glaze and peanut butter drizzle over the top with some dried banana pieces for crunch.
