The sausage was very good. The beans were ok but could have had more flavor. I need to add BBQ sauce to get more flavor. Sweet Magnolia is (correct me if I'm wrong) a nice little hole in the wall family owned business in the Ahwatukee area. I was warmly welcomed, my order was placed and I awaited the food. One big problem of mine is if I'm too excited to try the food (like I was here), I get halfway through the meal before remembering that I'm embarking on a review, and trust me, that sandwich was almost killed before the Yelp thought hit my mind. Thus, I apologize ahead of time for the pictures. So food: I got a 1/2 lbs pulled pork sandwich, 1/2 pint of both Mac and cheese and coleslaw, and a slice of peach cobbler cake (which they generously offered to me) The Pulled pork sandwich was delightful, smoky, tender, and very filling. They offer two types of BBQ sauce, classic and spicy, both were very good. The Mac and cheese was thick and hearty, a staple for me of any good BBQ place. Some BBQ joint have weak coleslaw, not Sweet Magnolia's. Creamy, rich and crunchy! And the peach cobbler cake was also pretty dang good, especially for those of you that want a dessert that isn't super sweet. Overall, if you want a family owned establishment with ultra friendly owners and amazing food, Sweet Magnolia's is a must try! This place is located SW of I-10 and Chandler, along East side of the parking lot. I think it is more for takeout and catering than dine in. There is seating for about 20 people inside. There is a condiment cart (see photos) as well as sauces on the counter. We tried the pulled pork sandwich, brisket, ribs, and ribs tips. All were good, except the rib tips were not that great. Everything was prepared when we got there so it hadn't been sitting around. Unfortunately they were out of cole slaw but the Mac and cheese and potato salad were excellent. I have been looking for good barbecue and I finally found it! This is the first Mississippi barbecue that I have found in Phoenix. Stopped in for lunch with a girlfriend and we both got the one meal plate. The mac & cheese is so creamy and I love a good sweet potato purée. This is a great plans for family and friends. As soon as they had greens, I knew I was in the right BBQ spot. I stopped in for lunch on the way to some dessert climbing. The staff were fun and friendly, I talked with the a man I can only guess was the owner for a good long while about BBQ from the south, and how it's tricky to find outside of the south. We were greeted warmly as soon as we entered and knew we were in a great place. We were able to place our order after reviewing the menu. I really wanted to like Sweet Magnolia BBQ. I've ordered from here twice through DoorDash hoping the first experience was just an off day, but unfortunately both times were disappointing. The meats were overly smoked, overcooked, and so dry that it made them tough to eat. The brisket in particular was extremely dry -- it tasted like it had either been sitting for a day or two or was just cooked too long. The chicken was the same way, lacking any juiciness or flavor. The portion was small for the price we were charged. Even the sides didn't stand out -- the beans tasted like something straight from a can, without much seasoning or love put into them. BBQ should feel hearty, tender, and made with care, but everything here felt rushed and tired. I had high hopes after seeing the restaurant featured on Channel 3 this past Sunday, and I was genuinely excited to try it. But the meal left me disappointed enough to throw most of it away. Stopped in with friends yesterday to try out the bbq. All four of us were very impressed. My husband and I shared the 4 meat platter so we could have a taste of almost everything. We chose ribs, brisket, sausage and rib tips with sides of beans and coleslaw. Everything was so tender. I usually order sausage so I don't have to share, but my husband even went after that. Got take out from here Memorial Day! I got the two meat plate with rib tips , pulled pork, Mac and cheese with collards . I also tried the peach cobbler cake for dessert. I'll start by saying the cake was delicious. I am a peach cobbler fan but having it as a cake was a first for me. My meal was really good but I did find the rib tips to be too tough for my liking. I'm from Texas and grew up eating some of the best bbq so my expectations can be a little high. I also prefer pork ribs when I have bbq but didn't see those on the menu.
