Next I ordered chicken fried steak for my friend. Three over medium eggs in the bottom was over medium eggs. Overdone with yokes missing. The biggest top was so hard I could have broken a window with it. Positives the corn beef was nice and you almost had me that it may have been real hollandaise until that gritty floury aftertaste confirmed it was not. Like I said I'll be fair and if I eat in there I'll sit down inside and eat but that's a big if. The 3 was for the service and ambiance not the food. Coworkers and I visited here for a late breakfast on a Tuesday. For a party of 6, we were seated right away and immediately brought out waters which I appreciated. We got the Florentine Benedict and the down home and both of them was a perfect brunch. The down home is a chicken fried steak. It came with a large amount of gravy, hash browns, and two eggs. There was so much gravy I was able to put some on my hash. I then added hot sauce and my egg and enjoyed a perfect breakfast combo. The steak had a good breading on it and was very good, especially with their magnificent gravy. The Florentine Benedict was perfect. A great combination of spinach, egg whites, and hollandaise. It is a nice job of them creating a fancier breakfast dish. I was very interested in trying out their pancakes, waffles, and French toast. I would give this place a solid 3.5-4 rating. We wanted to try something for breakfast that wasn't a chain and discovered this place close to my house in Lake Nona. As far as breakfast it really is your average place but it definitely hits the spot! The service was quick and the server was nice and polite. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The first thing I noticed when I entered was the "homey" feel of the restaurant. The decor is simple and quaint.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I order the veggie scramble with hollandaise sauce, sourdough toast, and grits. My hubby ordered the Mama's corn beef hash eggs Benedict, he knew what he wanted the minute he looked at the menu and it said corn beef. We also told her we would be getting 2 large homemade cinnamon rolls to go. I had a sweet tea to drink and he had coffee and ice water. My sweet tea was brewed nice and strong just how I like it, it could've had a bit more sugar, but I understand the desire to let people sweeten to their own taste. I wouldn't call it true southern tea for the lack of sugar, but it was a good strong brew. My husband said the coffee was good diner coffee, standard, good brew, not weak (his pet peeve at Kekes diner). The water was not good, it wasn't filtered and had a bad tap water taste. We waited a LOOOOONG time for our food and in the meantime, there was no check in for a coffee refill or status update. When the food got to the table, my scramble was cold, as was my toast and grits. Even the side of hollandaise sauce for my eggs was cold. It was disappointing. My husband's food arrived and it was beautiful, a large Benedict in all its splendor. His food looked hot, although the hash-browns looked undercooked. At second glance, we realized she had brought us a classic Benedict, ham instead of hash, after about 10 min of trying to get the attendant's attention, I carried the plate to the bar seating myself and explained the problem. I sat back down and shared some of my food with my husband while we waited for his order to be corrected, unaware of how much longer we'd be stuck waiting again. While we were waiting, our waitress came over to let me know there were several Benedict options on the menu (I was aware) and that the mamas one is a classic Benedict with ham (it's not) there are several Mama's Benedict options, which is why he specified the corn beef hash when he ordered. It felt like she was trying to place the blame on the way it was ordered... I didn't love that. We were specific, but if you have several options for the Mama's Benedict why not ask which one just to be sure, in case someone else doesn't specify. Just to be clear, we did, he was specific when he ordered the corn beef. My husband's food arrived about 20 min later. He said it was really good, the hash-brown's were better too. They had crisped up the hash-browns and the corn beef hash was delicious (not homemade) but well done with the Benedict, although somehow it was still not hot. The Hollandaise sauce was good, the English muffin was large and toasted and he said it tasted good. He recommends the dish for anyone who likes that. My food was as good as it could be considering that it was cold. The grits were really good, I can only imagine how good it would be hot. The food quality was not spectacular, but it was a good standard breakfast. It could've been spectacular if the service wasn't so bad and the food wasn't cold. We then had to flag the attendant down AGAIN to ask for the bill, I needed a to go container, and I wanted to reduce the cinnamon bun to 1 instead of 2 bc after breakfast I didn't have high hopes for "homemade". Also, my husband and I never got our refills so I wanted a sweet tea to go. The waitress came out of the kitchen and to our table with 2 cinnamon buns packed and ready to go and the check in hand. Instead of adjusting the qty of cinnamon rolls, my husband said, just forget it and gave her his card while I asked for a drink and container to go. I opened the cinnamon rolls. I wouldn't call them impressive by any stretch of the imagination. They looked basic and definitely not fresh. They had been heated (unfortunately bc they were to-go) and there was barely any icing on them. I cut a little end off to taste them and they were hard as though they had been reheated more than once. Also, the icing was a weird texture (possibly a reheat problem). Unfortunately I didn't take pics of the food bc of the distraction of the order mixup but I did include the photo of the cinnamon buns. Judge for yourself. We paid the bill and we left. We were there for approx 1hr 30 min. It was getting busy as we left and I heard some complaints about the wait as I was leaving. Summary, if I was around the area and there wasn't another diner this place will get the job done, but I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to return. The food was mid, the service was a disappointment. It could be good, but it definitely needs improvement and less "HOME MADE" claims. read more

The Rundown: felt quite overhyped, with fare pricing that doesn't quite match quality you'd expect. The Review: after seeing lots of excitement from locals for a bit I figured it was high time to try Sweet Mama's. Their was a bit of a wait, but to be expected from somewhere with high praise. Once seated there was a bit of a wait, I believe location is slightly understaffed which is understandable in today's climate. It was very busy, and the atmosphere had a nice feel of indie breakfast joint. Unrelated I thought it was a fun touch to not use matching mugs. The staff were alright, but appeared very tired. With somewhere as hopping as this location I can understand why. I believe his name was CJ, the table busser, he was the standout personality. Very friendly, smile on his face no matter where he was or what he was doing. I have to say, not common to find a busser with such a positive, standout personality so he's definitely an asset to the place! Anyways, the menu has a variety of offerings to fit any craving. I ended up going with the Chicken & Waffles, as it was highlighted on their menu and I've found if a place does this dish right then it's worth the hype. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The chicken was pretty dry (and difficult to cut with the butter knives provided) and the seasoning didn't add any additional flavors. The waffle itself was incredibly basic- I'd have expected something special with the batter but nope. Even the bourbon maple, which the server was kind enough to bring a second for me, I didn't realize was a specialty syrup until she mentioned it because it tasted like something basic and store bought. Now, maybe the hype set my expectations too high but overall I was disappointed. Drenched with enough syrup, I was able to eat maybe 4 bites, about 1/4 of the order. Bleh. So disappointing! I mentioned how awful they were to our wait staff, who relayed the message to the cook. Surprisingly, when the bill came, there was no adjustment whatsoever. And sorry to say, the hash browns experience was also subpar - very much like frozen hash browns that had been thawed and served (no, they weren't brown and they weren't hot). My wife and I went to Sweet Mamas for breakfast during the week. There were only 10 people in the restaurant. Most already had their meal. We placed our order and waited half an hour and still no food. I finally asked where our food was. She said they were preparing it now. When we finally got our food, I asked why the long wait when no one is in here. (When we arrived there were six people in a booth just starting their meal. There were 4 people at the bar eating their food). They lost our ticket. When she saw us sitting there for so long, why didn't she go looking for our order. My wife got the Breakfast Wrap. An egg and veggie mix in a tortilla. It was all tortilla and barely any eggs. They use a large tortilla for such small filling. And it had no taste. No seasoning. And the eggs were brownish like they cooked the eggs on a grill that was not cleaned after cooking my Choriso Scramble. She didn't finish her meal. My scramble looked like it was just thrown together. No visual appeal. Was just OK. Not what I expected. The home fries were good. Waited for sour dough toast. It was more bread than toast. We told the waitress that it looked like they hurried to get the food on the plate and the Wrap was bland. She apologized and said she would mention it too the cook. There were plenty of people sitting outside but we requested indoors since it was get a little steamy outside. You would think with a name like Sweet Mama's, that the place has a homey, cute decor, and it does. The menu offers breakfast and lunch items. We ordered: Veggie Egg White Omelet Philly Steak Omelet Pulled Pork Sandwich Chorizo Omelet Everything was good. As I perused the menu I enjoyed the knickknacks scattered about the restaurant. Ultimately I landed in the eggs Benedict. It may be treason, but I have never loved this served over an English muffin so for no charge the server happily swapped my Benedict support for home fries.
