I went in expecting a five star experience. My friend and I had brunch here previously and it was fantastic. So ... we were on the waiting list for Schnitzels at 5 pm on a Sunday. They don't take reservations. After about 10 minutes my friend and I plus 3 teens (my kids and a friend) were starving and Schnitzels was loud and crowded. We headed a few doors down to Sweet Mama's. Seated immediately. My friend and I shared the steak with penne dinner special and a Cobb salad with grilled chicken. My daughter ordered penne with butter off the kids menu. My son got a turkey burger and his friend got a grilled chicken sandwich on a hero instead of a wrap. Now the good -- portions were huge! My son could barely fit his burger in his mouth and it also had a half avocado on it. They didn't skimp. Steak with penne was delicious and so was the Cobb salad. We all shared off each other's plates because everything looked so amazing. Now the bad. My daughter's pasta was elbows, not penne as indicated on the menu. Not a catastrophe but she was looking forward to penne. Then - my son's friend put some ketchup on his plate for his fries. It was ,.. not red but brown. The bottle had an 8/25 expiration. We are in April 2026. We told the server and she said it's because it's the "simply ketchup" with no artificial dyes. She offered him ketchup packets "with fake dyes" but by that point he lost his appetite for fries. We grabbed ketchup from another table, same brand, Heinz Simply. You can see the difference in color. We showed the server and she acted annoyed. I told her we didn't want anyone getting sick on that ketchup and pointed out the expiration date. She rolled her eyes and said "oh I'll just throw it away." She kind of had an attitude and didn't even apologize. So that's why 4 stars. We'd go back but request not to have that server. Not terrible, but also not memorable. Sweet Mama's is a hybrid concept tucked away in the adorable Stony Brook Village. On one end, ice cream. In the middle, restaurant, and towards the back, a bar. Surprisingly at 11am, for a table of four, we waited about 10 mins for a table. We ordered a variety of things, from soup, to bennys and a mimosa flight. The mimosa flight was very cute but mine ended up tasting just like white wine. The real disappointment imo was the Belgian Waffle. Now I know, part of this is my fault, for expecting more than what the description laid out. But for $12 I got one crispy and tender waffle with powdered sugar and that was it. No side of fruit, no home fries, nothing. Everyone else enjoyed their food, which I was happy about! And service was wonderful. But for $12 for one waffle, this place may be a biiiiiiit overpriced for my liking. read more

Friendly service, atmosphere that fits the area nicely; it's easy to see why I'd like to call it a go-to brunch favorite. The specials stood out on my last trip. The pesto mozzarella chicken burger was packed with flavor, fresh mozz was a star, and the pesto added a fresh, savory kick that made it unforgettable. Chicken was slightly dry, but overall was a great dish.The French toast bites were impressive--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfectly sweet without being overwhelming. The drinks were just as memorable and perfect for St Patricks month! The Nutty Irishman coffee was rich with good balance of sweetness and liqueur, while the St. Paddy's cold brew was refreshing and bold--definitely a must-try if you like creative coffee options. Sweet Mama's is always busy whether we visit in the morning or the evening. This is great for business, but not always great if you're trying to get a quick lunch/dinner. I like their selection as they have all-day breakfast foods, sandwiches, fish and chips, burgers, soups, milk shakes, etc., and large portions. I always have leftovers when I come here. The front of the store is an ice cream parlor, and I've tried their breakfast plates as well as some sandwiches. If you're looking for a cute place to catch up with friends, Sweet Mama's is a good spot for that. Plenty of parking in the shopping center. Sweet Mama's is considered "open late" compared to the area's businesses, which means it would be easier to find parking for dinner. read more

Decided to check this spot out with my old college friend peeps for our much-needed, catch-up brunch. We knew going in that this is a very family-friendly place, but we honestly didn't expect the nonstop crying child lol. So for me, that's where it's a three star instead of a four. It, unfortunately, set the tone for everything else. So consider this a possible warning because the restaurant has no control over something like that. Once beyond that, the nostalgic decor and hometown ambiance is nice. The food was fresh and good. Nothing terribly special but a solid good. Definitely worth a trip back. We all had sandwiches and lattes. They were satisfying. A side of fries was shared but they had absolutely no seasoning not even salt, which was odd. Lastly, we shared a dessert. It was fine, but It looked much better than it actually tasted. The servers are friendly and accommodating. We were able to have three separate bills instead splitting it three ways. Had a great experience here as a group of 6 friends craving a heavy breakfast! Yes you are going to wait 30-60 minutes outside for a table, the joint is pretty small and only has a few tables but you are served pretty quickly and efficiently. they have a cute ice cream shop at the entrance as well which you can grab on your way out. Then service was fantastic and our waitress was great. There was a mistake with our burger when it came out but it was corrected very quickly after we pointed it out. They have a lot of seasonal drinks on the menu which was exciting. This can be a sugary outing so be careful! 10/10. read more

The ice cream here is iconic, carrying over from every previous generation of restaurant in this spot. My sandwich was delicious, especially with the Parmesan crusted sourdough bread! The chicken was a tad dry but all the other flavors really kept it together. Service is great as always, the cutest looking restaurant around! Came here for breakfast with a friend and my husband. I haven't been in this neighborhood for years; a quaint street with a big and beautiful post office to the left. Upon entering, there is an ice cream counter, but it was too early for me lol Ariana, our server, was sweet and attentive. I ordered the aloha paradise pancakes and requested they go easy on the macadamia nuts, so I am guessing it would have a lot more. I received three huge, fluffy and yummy pancakes, topped with bananas, coconut and coconut syrup. They were delicious and I was full way too soon. My husband got the classic French toast. It was good, and they have sugar free syrup, which he used. Our friend got some a burrito with potatoes; he enjoyed it, and I could see huge pieces of avocado. Before posting this review, Sweet Mama's had an overall Yelp score of 3.8 which honestly sounds close (though it should probably be a tad less) when talking about what this place has to offer. There's some positives, some real negatives, and basically a general feeling of "Dang I wish everything could've lived up to what it was putting down." Let me explain. My wife and I swung by Sweet Mama's in Stonybrook on Juneteenth, a super hot day in which many people had the day off yet no one was to be seen. I say this because Sweet Mama's was empty for quite some time before anyone else came in. We were okay with this because it gave us a more mellow morning together and let us take in the cool ambiance that Sweet Mama's is rocking. The place had a southern country feel from its decor to its music, and there was even a beautiful bar in the back-left-side of the interior that might be a fun time in the later hours of the day. I will say it was surprising that there was only one single-person bathroom in the dining area and the soap in said bathroom seemed to be empty. Not good when the place had only just opened. Taking that unfortunate hygienic part and placing it on the side for the time being, the service was swell and so was the menu. Our waitress was friendly and what we ordered came out pretty quickly despite one item on my wife's plate, (her side of meat choice, sausage over bacon) was wrong. They quickly corrected it by bringing out what she had actually ordered and everything else went pretty swell...except for perhaps one other important factor. Now that factor is the food and maybe this is where my wife and I might differ a bit on a few things. We would both agree that Sweet Mama's has a massive menu with a lot of great-sounding things. We also might agree that despite the descriptions, some of these things might just not be as tasty as one might hope. We'd also probably agree that the pricing of some food/drink items really don't warrant what you get. Though we'd slightly disagree on our plates of grub because I did in fact enjoy (parts of) mine as opposed to her. Coming in with a little more clarity, we both ordered iced coffees, but mine was a special seasonal brew, a tiramisu iced latte. Sounds amazing and it was pretty tasty, though was it worth the $9 price tag? Definitely not (her coffee was a little cheaper so slightly better-priced). As for grub, she got The Little Mama which came with two pancakes (kind of bland with syrup packets as opposed to a pouring container like in IHOP or Brownstones), two eggs (scrambled and not overly dry), home fries (nothing super special), and sausage (again, not much to write home about). For me, I got the Southern Fixin's Platter which came with two eggs (over easy for me which were quite tasty, ham (nothing bad about that), sausage gravy (best part of the meal), grits (something was a little off in the flavor of these which had me skipping them), home fries (same as my wife's not-so-special ones), and a biscuit (a little hard and not fluffy or freshly baked like the menu states). It really was a mixed bag of tastes and flavors and at a price that I can't say I loved with each of our meals being only slightly under $20 each. Ouch. Overall, Sweet Mama's really could have been superbly amazing. There's so much to love about the place in what they do right in ambiance, service, and some tastes, and yet they miss on a couple of important flavor and quality marks, they are a bit pricier than they should be for what they offer, and that bathroom piece is a head scratcher for sure as it's a health-related factor and something I can't just overlook. With that in mind, I'll head south of what could have maybe been a 3.5 star review rounded up and round down to 3 with the idea that I just don't think I'll be returning anytime soon. I've been to Sweet mamas in Stony Brook, and why many times before in the past. The food is always good and the location is perfect for a nice stroll around the shops and the Shoreline. The service is always put on, but I gotta say, I love the fact that they are dog, friendly. As a recent dog owner, I found myself looking for dog, friendly establishments for my puppy face. While visiting this restaurant, I was able to enjoy my dinner With a friend of mine that haven't seen in months; along with my rescue pup. Also, as a sidenote, as a bird enthusiast, sitting outside, I was able to watch a dozen or so chimney swift flying around, which was also a welcome site. read more

I was in the area, for not so good reasons, but "Sweet Mama's" helped make it better. I've had this place bookmarked for years, so I was happy to come by. Outside the place looks small and quaint, but it couldn't be farther from the truth. When you walk in, you are transported back in time to a 1960 ice cream shop. It's very surprising. I thought that's where we would eat. However the waitress slash hostess came over and escorted us to the restaurant side. The restaurant side is huge! It has a old school feel. It has rusted metal walls and wood paneling. This place felt like a country barn. I never felt more comfortable. After, the waitress came over and took our order. We were there earlier enough so it came out quick. The food was hot, and some advice, come hungry, the portions are huge. But nothing could prepare me for the taste. The grits to start were the center piece. They were cheesy and they gave you enough. The home fries were my second favorite. They had a crunch to them and plenty of flavorful onions. My omelette was great as well. To wash it all down, they gave us a large orange juice. This restaurant is perfect! Come with family or friends, come alone even, just go! Trust me you'll love it. A cute little breakfast & lunch spot to check out. It's located in Stony Brook Village, and there is ample parking, which is a perk. We sat in Grandpa's Shed bar area, which was nice and quiet, but the restaurant area was packed with every table filled. It did take some time to get served in that area, but once we did, the service was friendly and had good recommendations. The food came out very quickly, but my drink order took a long time, coming out just a few minutes before the food. It was a Tuesday around lunchtime, so it's possible it was just due to the lunch crowd. The main reason I wanted to check this place out is because of the coffee flight. It isn't on the menu, but I saw it on Instagram. You can get a flight for $15, either making your own or the coffee cookie flight that they choose the coffee. It was a bit pricey, but it was definitely very photo worthy and tasty. I got the spicy Benedict for breakfast. It was a good amount of spicy. It was also a bit pricey, at $16.95, but it was delicious. They have a menu with something for everyone. It's worth trying their breakfast or lunch. It's not often we eat somewhere without prior knowledge but after visiting the brand new Little Cheese shop we passed Sweet Mama's, saw the dining room looked busy and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we did! With a delicious smelling ice cream parlor on one side and a nice size dining room adjacent. The menu was traditional diner fare with some cool twists, solid brunch items and also interesting cocktails. We went with a couple traditional items but both the grilled cheese and the Reuben were perfect, slaw was excellent and included a nice pickle slice. Really sweet restaurant in Stony Brook Village. With a bar in the back and icecream shop in the front! Went out for lunch and shopping with my mom today and had a great meal at sweet mamas. We each got wraps, I got mine with fries. We were both incredibly happy with our meals and couldnt believe how full we were the entire day! The waitress was lovely and attentive. This place was surprisingly big because of the bar area in the back so we were able to be seated right away even though it was during the lunch rush. We were wandering around Setauket and got completely lost, and after 10 minutes we were pleased to see a shopping center up ahead. I was more pleased to see Sweet Mama's because I had just read a review on Yelp and knew that this was a good place to go. It was packed, but somehow we managed to score a table in a few minutes. I am a big believer in menus that go beyond the usual chicken this and shrimp that. The Southern breakfast with grits, ham, bisquits and gravy caught my eye, and I couldn't resist. My wife got a grilled vegetable wrap with an absolutely amazing latte. Service was pleasant and reliable in spite of the overcrowding, and the food was dazzling. No corners were cut on any of the items in my breakfast. We now have a go to place in Stony Brook, and this is where we will head on the next visit to the Stony Brook museums. Yummy but casual/home style vibes at Sweet Mamas. In a little historic looking plaza which was lovely to wander and shop after. We headed in a week day for brunch and by noon the place was bustling busy. There's a little ice cream counter up front but we didn't have the opportunity to enjoy because we were so full from lunch. The iced lattes were delish! I had the white chocolate cinnamon which was decadent + a friend ordered the caramel graham which was also amazing. Solid, middle of the road breakfast/brunch/lunch spot. Went on a Sunday afternoon and were given an estimated 25 minute wait time. We sat in the adorable ice cream parlor section of the multi-room building to wait and were pleasantly surprised when the hostess said she had an available table in the bar section of the restaurant. The menu is just right-there's a variety of breakfast/brunch options as well as burgers, sandwiches and apps; so there's really something for everyone without being a multi-page, diner-like novel to read. There's a full bar which is a plus for brunch, but take note that the Bloody Mary is VERY spicy! Delicious - but extra spicy. The service was friendly and attentive, the dining area and restrooms clean and tidy. A common theme amongst all the plates at our table though was just that the food was plain and didn't have much flavor. Home fries are made with onions (HUGE PLUS for me), but completely lacked seasoning - including salt. The same could be said for my omelet and husband's full breakfast plate. The vegetables in my omelet were so minimal that I had to dig around to find the tomato. Personally, if I'm ordering a vegetable omelet I'm looking to taste the vegetables and I really didn't with this one. Everything was perfectly acceptable for hungry brunchers, but I don't typically salt my food at the table so when I have to reach for a salt shaker, it's a big indicator that things are under- seasoned. In general, there were no major issues and nothing was bad per se, but none of our dishes blew us away. Would visit again if I was in the area and it was convenient, but probably wouldn't go out of the way to return. read more

Came out to stony Brook for an animal show and had some time to kill so decided to grab something to eat. Was not sure what to expect with this place after walking in, was it an ice cream shop, a restaurant, or a bar. It was in fact all 3. We were seated immediately and given menus. I didn't know where to begin, breakfast options sounded phenomenal and so did lunch, then the waiter shows us the specials, that did not help. After way too long we all finally decided, I got the hot honey chicken Caeser salad, my wife got the grilled cheese with bacon and my daughter opted for pancakes and fruit. Everything tasted as good as it looked, the grilled cheese were two slices of thick challah with a ton of cheese, the hot honey chicken was super flavorful and my daughter ate off of the pancakes. Went to brunch on Tuesday morning At the Stony Brook location. Service was fine. The restaurant was not crowded, I was surprised by the quality of food served. Our order came quickly, but was disappointing. Scrambled eggs were over cooked even though we as asked for them not to be. The pancakes were tiny, flat, hard and cold. One would expect a brunch "spot" would have nice warm fluffy pancakes. They did not seem to have been freshly made. What they called hash browns were just under seasoned chunks of hard potatoes. I ate what I could, but in retrospect, I should have sent it back. II left feeling sad about my choice of restaurant. The experience was not worth time and money spent. read more

My husband and I went to Sweet Mamas for the first time. We have a toddler and they were patient and quick to get us in and out. It was a little small inside but we had enough room and didn't feel smushed. I ordered the Little Mama for me, oatmeal for the baby, husband got the biscuits and gravy egg dish and we shared the coffee flight with my husband. The oatmeal and biscuit gravy egg meal was delicious. The Little Mama dish was nothing special but it was still made well. This is the go to brunch spot for the north shore...here's why! If you are in this area, there is no shortage of breakfast spots. But Sweet Mama's is the best! It has the most creative menu and delicious lunch and breakfast options. It's a cute cafe with full bar in the back and ice cream parlor in the front. It doesn't get much cooler than that! I've been here for brunch a few times for refueling after 5k runs or long nights at the hospital. I love their food! Today after I got my breakfast, I told the waitress this is the best day of my life! Please try the mimosa flight! I get flavors that are unique, not found at other places like the desert pear or cotton candy. Their lattes are insane too. Really smooth espresso with sweet flavors to try like Coffee Cake. Came here late at night on a weekday, wasn't busy and staff was kind. Ordered some coffee and the buffalo mac and cheese, the portion sizes here are absolutely massive, even the coffee, they give you a whole pitcher of it for like $3.50. The mac and cheese was huge and it was okay. They topped it off with goat cheese and was impossible to get through even half of it without food coma-ing. The food tasted good, but I'm not the biggest fan of goat cheese. Made the dish a little too heavy and strong tasting. Overall was still a good meal, just felt odd going in hungry and only finishing half cause the dish was too bloating. Our last visit to Sweet Mama's in Stonybrook was so disappointing. We usually enjoy our meals. Still great service, but the "seafood salad" special was so disappointing, especially for the cost. It was advertised as lobster, crab and shrimp, so all three of us ordered the same thing. It just tasted strongly of onion which overwhelmed the seafood. It did not live up to our expectations and we frequent both the Northport and Stonybrook locations often. read more
