Our server was fast, attentive, and kind. One point docked because we waited a few minutes to even be acknowledged. Food 8/10. The gyoza dumplings were our favorite and the best part of the meal. Otherwise there wasn't anything too exciting for us. We would come back again though. The rocky shrimp was good but not great. The sauce served with the shrimp was the best part. We took the cucumbers and used the rest of the sauce it was that good. The sushi was good, seemed fresh but not the best I've had. The Thai curry came home with us because my husband was full, the pieces we tried were flavorful. We also got the Angry Dragon roll, Fallen Angel roll, and a regular Philadelphia roll. All of them were really well made, delicious, and had a great presentation. My dish tasted like mediocre Chinese buffet. The baby carrots and tomatoes were surprise ingredients, and the dish (Ginger Chicken, Pad Khing) was missing the asparagus, bamboo shoots, shitake mushrooms and tree ears. I have eaten sushi in some of the top spots in the U.S. And when I ordered the bluefin tuna sashimi they had on special I was blown away. It was hands down the best piece of fish I have ever had. Their kitchen and sushi chefs are top notch. The building is in a tucked away spot in Southington CT but I had better food and service here than I have had in downtown Vegas, San Diego or any more glamorous location. I love sushi, and I especially love sitting at the bar. The mastery of a sushi chef in action is ever so intriguing! My experience at sweet mango, was one that will certainly bring me back the next time I'm in town. I have several sushi places I frequent in Chicago, that might play second fiddle to sweet mango if they had a location half way across the country. The Rainbow and Mexican roll were superb, a slightly different to those at other sushi joints, but hey that's what makes them fun to venture into. The artistry on the plate was creative using some sauce to creat the image of a fish decorated the top of there plate. The kicker for me was the salmon sashimi for which the chef added an extra piece on my plate certainly not necessary, however I was genuinely appreciative of his generosity. Oh did I forget to mention that it was buttery smooth going down. If you live close by or visit from out of town like myself, it should be on your list if you enjoy sushi. See you soon! read more

They do a couple things different here, some you may love or hate but it is good either way. Allow me to explain. Starting off my review the differences because this is your typical Japanese and Thai restaurant or at least that's what I thought. Anyways, we ordered the Rocky Shrimp (rock shrimp) and three things right off the bat are different. Instead of mixing the shrimp with the sauce, it is to the side leaving the shrimp extra crispy. The shrimp is also butterflied and the tail is left in. These are not bad things. Just preferences to the chef and simply Sweet Mango's tradition, this is how they do it. Just a heads up for ya'll picky eaters. If you are not familiar with rock shrimp, my point is that typically the tail is out, the shrimp is not butterflied and the shrimp is tossed in the sauce. The other major difference between Sweet Mango and your typical Japanese restaurant is their spicy sushi. It looks normal as you can see in my picture but trust me it is the smoothest sushi I have ever eaten in my entire life. They really minced the sushi into their spicy mixture which apparently makes it go down like yogurt after chewing it once. I liked it! Maybe not everyday but it was different! Shocked the mind and taste buds for me. The other sushi that I ordered were all typical, had their complete structure. As for the service, they failed to complete my girlfriend's order last time she came because they were extremely busy that day so they actually compensated her by giving a free appetizer coupon which was nice! The owner reached out to us, apologizing for the past inconvenience and our server was nice as well. Came in at 4:30pm on a Tuesday, it was completely dead. 5:00pm came around and people were coming in and out and the parking lot was pretty much full. So watch out for that rush. To conclude, I love this place and their unique ways of spicy sushi as well as the rock shrimp. Embrace the differences. If you've had enough of either the said items above, it will really stand out. read more

If I could give a 10 star rating I would, and so would everyone I know. Everything about Sweet Mango is a joy. The owner, her staff, the cooks are incredible. Most important, the food is exceptional. I have had a number of different dishes there and loved everyone of them. Now I admit, I do not eat sushi and that is one of the drawing cards for most people who come here. While I don't eat it, I love looking at it. The colors and arrangements are so beautiful and often graced with orchids. A friend ordered a noodle dish once and it came with a shrimp carved out of a carrot! and on a number of occasions when there is large parties sharing food, sushi and sushimi are delivered to the table in a large wooden boat. I'm addicted to the shumai. Pad Kee Maow, Pad Thai, Shrimp Tempura (the shrimp are about 7 inches long!), Beef Negimaki, Crispy Duck Salad, Spicy Mint Fried Rice are all delicious. One of my friends said his was the best Masaman Curry he had ever eaten. You can not go wrong ordering anything at Sweet Mango. read more
