I've been a customer here for the last few years. Every time a drive dies I take it to these guys and every time they've been able to help me. Yesterday, a drive that they'd repaired for me a year ago wouldn't mount. I took it down there today, explained my situation, and because it was a drive they'd worked on they waived the usual fee that's up front. He and Jared both were friendly, easy to talk to, and willing to give me down-to-earth advice about what to buy and where to buy it. They were even willing to be honest about shopping around for competitive prices on things they sell in-house. That, to me, is the mark of a professional- when someone is willing to forego a sale in light of being honest about what might be best for the customer (and their wallet). And it only makes me want to spend more money with them. I left my drive with Joey and he said he'd take a look at it today. Not only did he look at it today, he had assessed the problem so quickly that I hadn't made it more than a few blocks away. When he called me he said, "I wanted to get back to you before you got too far away." He had already switched out the bad part and didn't charge me a thing. Just asked that I review their work. When I asked them if there was anything in particular they wanted me to write about, Jared said, "About your experience. Good or bad." The Apple store didn't have the parts to upgrade my 3 year old Macbook pro so they recommended Sweet Memory. I called in ahead to make sure they had the parts. I wanted to upgrade my RAM and memory and wasn't sure if I should bring my backup/external hard drives, but I brought them in anyway. Although they didn't need them, they offered to hold it so I didn't have to carry it around all day. I was given a discount on the labor, which I was very happy about. The computer was ready the next day (Friday) but I got off work at 5:30 and the store closed at 6:00. I called ahead to let them know I would be there at 5:50, but of course the buses in SF run late, so I called again to let him know I was literally running down the street to the store and he said "don't worry I will wait for you". When I finally ran into the store, it was a little after 6:00 and he quickly rang me up and lightly said he missed the BART but mentioned "customers first" with a smile. Everything on my computer is running smoothly and I didn't have to reinstall any of my program. All of my files are back exactly where I left them! As your typical American when I want something I want it now. Memory is no exception. So when you get that new computer or decide to finally upgrade because that new-fangled program you got just ain't working you want memory NOW. I've found myself in this predicament 4 or 5 times over the last few years and they always come through. And they have a lot in stock and it's pretty reasonably priced versus going online. I was very pleased today because I had some memory that I bought to upgrade my Mom's computer on my trip back to home last weekend. Unfortunately, one of the memory modules wouldn't work. Defective modules happen. So when I got back, I realized I'd left the receipt with Mom back in Wisconsin. So today I walked in and the kid who helped me wasn't there. It was the owner and I said, "This memory module was defective. The computer would not recognize it." When he asked if I had the receipt I told him I didn't but had hoped he'd still have a copy on his computer. Instead he said, "No problem... How much did you pay for it?" I told him how much and he calculated the tax and refunded my credit card on the spot. Way to keep my business! I will be back. read more

I never ever like writing these bad reviews but Sweet Memory IT Services is a horrible place and their customer service is as low as it gets. The older gentleman that is at the counter (seems like the owner) is very disrespectful and unprofessional. I'm in the IT industry and this guy and their services are definitely what gives IT engineers a bad name. It's in a convenient location and that is the only good thing about this place. If you need anything IT related keep looking...he gave me misinformation on my issue just spitting jargon thinking I didn't know those words and when I kept asking him to explain further he got really upset and called me dumb and that I didn't know what I was talking about. Well, at Sweet Memory, the saying holds truth, "you pay for what you get". Apple sent me to Sweet Memory to replace my LCD because the cost would be less that it was at Apple. Sure enough, but at the expense of very poor quality work. First, the job took longer than it was quoted to take. And worse, my Macbook was returned to me with deep scratches grooved into the top cover. When I immediately noticed and mentioned the scratches, the technician admitted without any qualms at all that it was because the table top that he worked on had broken glass all over it from previous ipod jobs. Oh, so it's the table top's fault? Well, shouldn't you clean up the mess before you start a new job? Duh? Or perhaps work on a clean surface or a cloth to protect people's electronics that they pay a lot of money for and they should be returned to them in the same condition that you received them in. Have you heard of customer care? Additionally, the frame was not tacked back on completely. Again, Apple was blamed for making flimsy framing and they claimed they didn't have the same glue or tape that Apple uses. Well, if they're an authorized Apple Dealer, then I would assume they should have the same or similar products available to finish the job properly. And the worst part again was the non caring attitude. So what? The job was done, my new screen works fine. I just now got a call from the owner. He's going to pre-order repair parts then try to fix the laptop while I wait so I don't have to leave it with them, and offered to extend the warranty an extra 3 months too. He sounded like he sincerely wants to make this right. I appreciate that, so I've added another star back right now for the clear effort, and I'll come back & revise again once the repair is completely done. PREVIOUS REVIEW: I've drastically downgraded my rating to 2 stars. I am pissed. After a day or two, it turned out the laptop I bought from them had hardware problems: it never recognized the built-in camera, microphone, speakers, or headphone jack, leaving me with no way to use Skype or GarageBand, 2 of my often-used programs. I opened the case to see if maybe a cable was unseated, and the camera cable simply fell out of its harness, and had no connector on it at all on the end -- somebody had broken the cable, and shoved the loose broken end back into the harness. As to the speakers & headphone, I couldn't see anything obvious, but after spending a long time troubleshooting it appears to be a hardware problem. Also, when I opened it, I saw the subwoofer component was actually missing one of the screws that hold it in place. Not a huge deal, but if I buy a computer from a professional repair place, I would expect that no screws are missing from it, that's really unprofessional. Overall, it looks like somebody who didn't really know what they were doing disassembled & reassembled this laptop at some point. I'm not saying Sweet Memory is the one who did that, but they're a professional shop and sold me a laptop in this condition. You'd think they'd have put it through some minor tests or at least glanced inside it or something to make sure it was in good working order before putting it in an ad with their name on it. I took it back. They gave me no trouble about doing a warrantee repair, but the problem is: they wouldn't look at it with me there so I could get back to work, and insisted I leave it at their shop for at least "a day or two", with no genuine assurance that it would really even be that quick. I'm sorry, I need a laptop for work. I can't be without it for a day or two -- that would cost me more in lost work than just buying another laptop. I've already spent too much time off work troubleshooting this lemon. So now I'm stuck with a broken laptop, unable to skype or finish the album I've been working on in GarageBand for a year, until I can afford to buy another one to use for work while this one is in the shop for however long it takes. Then I'll have two laptops, and have to go through the hassle of selling the extra one, and hopefully not losing money on that. Plus the time it takes to transfer all my info back and forth between laptops, which I already had to go through getting everything onto this one. I lowered this review to 2 stars instead of 1 because I don't think they intentionally ripped me off, but: when I came back in with a lemon that they had sold me, a 5-star shop would have yanked the cover off right then and seen what they could have done, or they should have offered me a replacement or a refund on the spot, not told me my sole option was to take days (or more) off of work waiting for them to fix it. I don't give five stars for that. I realize sometimes laptops are broken, but for more than 2 stars, you need to show me you care about the hassle I'm now going through because I bought from you. Other than offering to take their sweet time to do a warrantee repair, their bare minimum legal obligation, they didn't seem to care at all that I'd gotten hosed by buying from them and need a laptop for work. That's not 5 star service. Not to mention: a 5-star shop wouldn't have let an obviously broken laptop go out the door to begin with, they'd at least have checked everything to make sure all the screws were there and the camera cable connector wasn't destroyed. In fact, maybe I've been lucky, but in 20 years of buying used laptops, this is the only time someone has ever sold me one that was broken. I didn't expect that from a professional repair shop. -- ORIGINAL REVIEW: They sold me a top-of-the-line used reconditioned Apple laptop, in excellent condition, for a much lower price than I could find anywhere else. The battery they installed had only 35 charge cycles on it - virtually brand new (used laptop batteries usually have hundreds of cycles on them.) I checked the hard drive and it was the original brand and model that Apple built into that model Macbook. Then, when I asked about maxing out the memory, they gave me a very substantial discount on 16GB of RAM, and installed it for free on the spot. Plus they included a six month warrantee on parts and labor for the laptop. And they were extremely friendly and knowledgeable to deal with, just a pleasure. Service is so undervalued these days, and service that I received at Sweet Memory is so rare. I went in for an HDMI connector for my Surface. Needed HDMI then realized I should get VGA as well. Rather then up sell me two items for $39.00/each the sales person recommended a triple adapter for $49.00 which had a third component that I didn't think I'd need but turns out it works at home too! I brought my Imac in to get the Hard drive replaced and to get more RAM. I was charged for 2GB of RAM and a TB HD. I already had 1GB of RAM(two .5 cards) So I asked them to install one of my halfies so I would have 2.5 GB of RAM total. Well, they only put in 2- My computer is LOUD as hell when it's running. It sounds like there is a fan blowing-Loud white noise- Also-They BROKE my internal camera!! I can't even believe it, but they did! Then they say they are not responsible for that- Now I can't skype and use my webcam!- I have to get an external one which isn't the end of the world, BUT-more cost to me. Also, My old drive crashed in the middle of them trying to transfer Data. I told them that even though one of the tiers was a bit damaged, but It's actually running fine. They took out the Hard Drive first, before slaving it to transfer DATA. They should not have removed it from the IMAC until they transfered the DATA. This was part of the service I was paying for. Because they removed it first(trying to go in a rush and do two things at once) and tried to install it in another unit, they put more stress on it and it crashed. I was charged almost $400.00 for the services and feel like I was jipped. The main reason I used them is because I wanted someone professional to fix it-I could have done it myself, but I thought this time, I'll pay to have it done. Silly me. read more

I brought in a laptop with a loose hinge to be fixed. The original hinge had failed completely and been replaced by Dell, and the new one was starting to show the same symptoms: creaking, popping, and starting to separate at the back. The hinge was fixed within a couple of business days, but when I turned on the computer I found that the trackpad was not responding at all. I brought it back and they accepted it with no questions asked, and fixed the issue within about 15 minutes. Although the experience wasn't flawless, I was very impressed by the fact that they admitted and fixed their mistake right away. I especially appreciated that they did it all without implying that I was some kind of laptop-abusing monster (as previous experiences with Dell and Apple have led me to expect). Overall a good experience, and I'll probably go back if I need any more repairs. read more

I spilled water on my computer and it no longer booted up so I couldn't save my files. I took it here, they opened it up, connected the internal hard drive to it (thank goodness it still worked), and they copied my entire disk image over to an external drive. All my files were saved and I could access them while my computer got fixed. The service was excellent, they were fast, and did everything they said they were going to do. read more

Excellent customer service and the entire staff really knows what they are doing. Make them your go to if your smart phone or tablet is giving you issues of any kind. They will give you unbiased advice on what to do next, which is a better idea than using your iPhone as a door stop just because you had an interesting night and now it has a few cracks on it. So, yes- the guys who will talk to you talk fast- maybe too fast. But that's because they think fast. But they know their stuff. I think the business is predicated on " We can probably help you, for cheap, but we need to know what's up, exactly, so we can give you a good answer. We'll be clear, to the best of our ability, but we work in volume- that's how we keep it affordable." Do deal with that, and take the risk they offer- it is cheap, only $109- and for what it is worth, I would have been satisfied if they said " Nope. Can't do it." But they did, at a fraction of the cost of what was being quoted to me, with constant communication, quotes, and clarity. And with new hardware. Big fat yes. read more

I brought my computer in to get the AC outlet fixed. They first told me that it was going to take a day and a half because they had to order the part, then when i pick it (after calling several times to find out when I can pick it up and they just kept giving me the run around) several hours later than expected. They told me that they'll charge me $225 for the labor and only $25 for the parts. Except they didn't order any new parts, they just fixed the exsiting part. When I get home, my wireless switch is broken. I called them the next day and they kept giving me excuses on why it's going to take them time to fix it. When I finally get in there, they say it can't be fixed. They even admitted that they might've broken that part and they can't do anything to fix it. They didn't feel bad at all that they had broken a part on my laptop! I will never go back there again!! read more

I've sent many people there for everything from iPhone repair to laptop resurrection to home visits for WIFI configurations etc. As an IT professional myself, it's great to be able to say to friends "I don't have time to help you, I'm so sorry, but call Sweet Memory they will hook you up!" Been here two times. First time was for a broken iPhone 5c screen, they fixed it and it works like new. Second time, my iPhone 6 wasn't charging right, I had to jiggle the connector to get it to charge. I took it in and they blew out some lint from the connector. 30 seconds, no charge. The screen repair on my iPad Air was horrible. The glue used to secure the screen has seeped through the sides and the screen is no longer properly set. The quality of the screen itself is the bigger problem - one month later it has marks all over it and is obviously a low quality product. read more

This shop does iPod repairs. As far as I know, it's the only shop in SF with regular business hours that does this. Brought my iPod in to replace a phono jack and got it back w/in an hour and it worked fine. Cost $79, which is the going rate for most shops. They can replace batteries and video screens too. Not sure what else they can do, but if it's just a parts swap, they should be able to do it, as long as they have the part(s) on hand. read more

About a month ago, my laptop's fan gave out; the computer would overheat easily, and every time I booted it up, it warned me that the fan was out, and that the computer was likely to crash because of it. Since Sweet Memory was close to my office, I decided to take it over there to get it checked out. I brought it in, told them what was wrong, and asked to get it fixed. They said it'd be easy, that they just had to run a quick diagnostic to confirm the error, and would call me up when they were ready to order the repair part. Easy enough. That was Tuesday morning. Let's fast-forward to Friday. I go into the shop that morning and tell them that I'll be out of town and unable to answer my phone all weekend, and was wondering about the progress on my laptop. Apparently, they had JUST run the diagnostic, and determined that yes, in fact, the fan WAS broken. However, they hadn't yet looked into what was required to fix it, so I went out of town for the weekend without any real progress on the computer. When I got back from my trip, I had a voicemail waiting for me that said they had figured out what was necessary to fix my computer - apparently the needed part was only available in China, and they'd have to ship it over. Okay, fine, whatever, I just want my laptop back. I thought a minor issue like this would have only taken a day or two tops, MAYBE a week, so I was getting pretty impatient. A week passed. Then ANOTHER week passed. I was checking in with them fairly frequently, asking when the part would be in, and apparently it was in the mail for weeks. I'm not sure how that even happens, but I endured it. Finally, they got the part in, and called me up to tell me it was done - AFTER I had already gone home for the day. On a Friday. I live about an hour away from the city, so I wasn't about to go out of my way to go up to the city to pick it up, so I didn't end up getting it back the following Monday, a full 4 weeks after I had dropped it off, an amount of time I consider unacceptable for this type of repair. Okay, maybe I'm being unreasonable here. Maybe it really does take that much time, every time, to get a fan replacement... but I highly doubt that's the case. Basically, I spent a month of my summer without a computer because I made a stupid choice in a repair shop. Overall impression: The people at the store are pretty friendly and helpful, but that's not enough to compensate for the ungodly amount of time it took them to fix my relatively minor computer problem. Maybe my experience was an anomality, but if you're in a rush to get your computer fixed, I wouldn't risk this place. read more

Went in after my iPhone 4's battery suddenly failed on me. The service here was pretty good. Staff was really nice and they fixed it for a decent price. The only problem is that somehow my sound doesn't work since the receptors jammed! Prior to having them fix my battery it was working just fine so I took it back to them and they couldn't do nothing about it.
