Thankfully we decided to give Sweet Memory a try! I think this is an underrated place, the desserts are amazing. Firstly, the place has a cute, traditional, ambient atmosphere. It's décor and wall decorations are very nostalgic. Though inside there isn't too much seating room. For the 2 of us on a late weekday late night we were able to get a seat luckily. Desserts are a little bit on the pricier side, but the quality and taste is unmatched. The Jasmine Jelly was the highlight hands down. Me or my gf have never tasted a jelly that was jasmine flavored. We've had tons of boba and dessert spots and no jelly has ever tasted like this. Super good, we would definitely order this again! We also had the Tofu Pudding (believe Soy Tofu flavor) with boba. The boba quality is very good! The tofu pudding and flavor was great at best (not amazing). Definitely preferred the Jasmine Jelly over the Tofu pudding. Both my parents are from Taipei and having spent childhood summers there, Sweet Memory literally transports you to a streetside cafe in Taiwan with its authentic fare and warm staff. Absolutely loved the sticky rice tube (mi gao) which is really rare to find outside of Taiwan. The pork belly and braised pork rice were both fragrant, savory with excellent flavor. Limited dinner dishes but really solid cooking. Known for their Taiwanese desserts, we tried their hot tofu pudding opting for fresh taro and peanuts instead taro balls - an absolutely refreshing, delicious dessert! I used to enjoy grass jelly out of a can, but after discovering this place, I can no longer eat canned grass jelly. The grass jelly here is seriously to die for, and I have been craving to come back ever since. You must add taro and yam balls to your grass jelly (especially if you are obsessed with QQ foods like I am.) It came with evaporated milk and this combo along with the taro/yam balls = a trio matched in heaven. The portion was quite big and I actually packed half of it home and it still tasted good the next day. I also got the classic Taiwanese braised pork rice (牛肉飯) and this didn't fail to be satisfying. This classic dish contains some animal fat along with minced pork and an egg. Mix it all together and it'd bring you comfort in all ways possible. Other than the menu, I was also very impressed with their interior design and details into creating a Taiwanese street feel. It brought me straight back to Taiwan and those who know me, know that I love street food. Whenever I have a longing to be back on the streets on Asia and pigging out all the delicious street food, this is the place to be at for now. I'm trying to think of one thing that they can improve on, but I'm having a hard time. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it reminded me of food in Taipei. The decor inside is nice without overdoing it. It's more of a dessert/drink spot with few small items like stewed pork over rice or Taiwanese bbq sausage. Wow, as a Taiwan born and raised i have to say this is the most authentic and silkiest tofu pudding (豆花) i've had. Omg I'll even go as far as saying i've never had 豆花 this good in my whole life. It even beats the ones I had growing up in Taiwan. Their tofu pudding is sooo smooth and silky it melts in your mouth. My mom and I stayed in Richmond for three days and we came back every night to have another bowl of tofu pudding. Hidden Taiwanese gem in Richmond! How did I not know about this before! Restaurant is very easy to be missed. It is located in the plaza across from Superstore and right before Felicos the Greek restaurant. It's quite inconspicuous. This restaurant is the "sister store" (?) Of the main one by the name of Memory Corner. This one has much more Taiwan feel to it than its counterpart. I was amazed the minute I walked in. It totally felt like I was back in my hometown, Taiwan. The restaurant was quite dim and the owner must have spent quite an effort replicating the Taiwanese scene and culture. Small red lanterns hung from the ceiling, old school dining tables and chairs, the teapot, the Taiwanese beer glasses for your tea, etc. They even played old Taiwanese songs! They served a variety of Taiwanese food and beverage: tofu dessert, grass jelly, typical street food, traditional entrées, bubble tea and Taiwanese beer. We settled on two street food items. The food was quite yummy. The overall ambiance was fantastic and I felt happy to be "back in Taiwan." The restaurant opens late. The food is okay, not the best impression when my girlfriend thought the food is easy to recreate at home, meaning there's not a lot of complexity in the recipe. The menu is not friendly for English readers, I was able to read Chinese clearly, however the English translation below makes it harder to read, and the online menu doesn't seem to help as the main course are mixed in with appetisers. Amazing restaurant !! I love tofu as dessert and I've been enjoying having it from other restaurants but this restaurant makes AMAZING tofu!! Sooooo silky and tasty.... It's one of those moments that when you eat it you'd say ' wow....' right away. They also have great grass jelly which I also love. Their taro (as topping) cubes are really big which I really appreciate- other restaurants cut them really really tiny which you always feel like you've been ripped off. Their taro mochi are super yummy, the texture is really nice that you can still taste the real taro. I haven't tried their foods yet but they also look very authentic. Next time!!! read more

I meant to go to Memory Corner for lunch after landing in Vancouver. Cascading delays and missed connections meant that I didn't land until 11 hours later than scheduled. Having missed my lunch appointment and the closing time for Memory Corner, I nevertheless trekked over to sister restaurant Sweet Memory before heading to the hotel. This little taste of Taiwan was definitely worth arriving at the hotel an hour later and dragging my suitcase through the dark and empty streets of Richmond. The menu is limited to a few 小吃 and that unique class of Taiwanese desserts (grass jelly, that come with chewy toppings (boba, rice balls, beans, etc). I ordered a 火雞飯 (turkey rice) and a 五色芋圓豆花 (silken tofu with five-color taro balls). The 火雞飯 was simple and savory, with the tenderest turkey I've ever eaten. The rice was perfectly chewy, with discernable individual grains. In addition to sauce on top, they add sauce to the bottom of the rice so that every bite is a wonderful blend of flavors. The rice soaks up the sauce without becoming mushy. Somehow, the rice maintained its texture even when I finished it for breakfast the next morning. The 豆花 was cool and refreshing. I enjoyed the slightly-sweet broth, and the 芋圓 were soft and pillowy. read more

We stopped by this Taiwanese dessert place after dinner on a friend's recommendation, and were not disappointed. They're known for tofu pudding dessert - it's similar to the tofu dessert packs you can find at grocery stores like T&T, but served hot in a sweet soup. You pick toppings to go along with it. I recommend red bean. The shaved ice was also excellent. It's a huge bowl, and you pick 3 toppings for it. I had the yam/taro balls, condensed milk, and red bean. There are savoury dishes on the menu as well. They served sweetened hot tea when you arrive. Not super sweet though. The ambiance is dark and romantic. Great place for a date night. After dinner in the area, my friends and I were looking for dessert and I noticed this spot that I had bookmarked on Yelp. So we took the opportunity to go. Once inside I was immediately taken into another world. I love the decor in here, from the displays to the wooden tables and hanging lanterns. Very cute! We were immediately served complimentary chilled wintermelon tea. So delicious and not too sweet, I don't even need to order a bubble tea along with my dessert. I got the pineapple shaved ice for $6.95. When it arrived, we were all shocked at how huge it was. A bit on the sweet side, the shaved ice was topped with pineapples that they had "stewed". I don't remember how she explained it. I really enjoyed this dish because I love pineapples, but my friends preferred the other dessert we got: tofu fa. This was also really good. It came out warm and also was a good portion. Underneath there were peanuts and 3 kinds of mochi. Soft and sweet, and the tofu fa was unbelievably silky! I would definitely get this again. I noticed they had a ton of other desserts that I don't normally see at Taiwanese dessert places, like a strawberry hot pot, marshmallow toast, etc. They also have a small selection of savoury food, so you could come here for dinner and dessert. We wanted to try more, but with 2 desserts to share between 4 people this was already more than enough. Service was quicker and friendlier than most Taiwanese restaurants in Richmond, I'd say. Only downside is that it is cash only (although quite typical for Richmond) and that there aren't many tables in here. So with a larger group, there would likely be a wait. Only had dessert. Really good but a bit on the sweet side for me. The shaved ice was super fluffy. The pudding we ordered as a topping was rich it was almost like custard. Grass jelly was really fresh and taste a bit more on traditional side. Nice flavor but someone said it was better than MeetFresh. It was very good but I still think MeetFresh has the best shaved ice and grass jelly. I would have given 5 stars for the Jasmine Tea Jelly. Unique, full of Jasmine Tea aroma, nice texture. The inside is decorated to give a nostalgic, old school vibe; bright red lamps adorn the ceiling while a vintage bicycle, posters and creepy figurines round out the rest of the decor. Service is good but you need to flag them down. The menu is massive with snacks, desserts (shaved ice, speciality and tofu pudding) and drinks. Minimum charge per person is $3.75. The fresh fruit shaved ice pot ($30.00) sounded promising. The Guandong boils (boiled vegetable street snack/skewers) also looked good. Trip #1 - Wintermelon tea - light with a touch of sweetness. Everyone enjoyed the tea and we asked for several refills. - Taiwanese tea egg ($4.25 for 2) - Iv ordered their tea eggs. I didn't try but he said they were a touch overcooked. - Grass jelly ($5.95) - this was our favourite dessert of the night. They make the grass jelly fresh, in-house and is topped with evaporated milk. There was a slight herbal flavour and creamy, satisfying texture. Portion size is very generous. GET IT. - Homemade taro ice ($8.95) - never seen this dessert before so we tried it. Half consisted of boiled taro, the other half was a hybrid of vanilla ice cream and taro. The boiled taro was bland and could have been sliced into more manageable, bite sized pieces. Not worth the price point. - Homemade brown sugar cake ($5.95) - four pieces and randomly, two baby tomatoes. The tomatoes didn't add much to the dessert other than some colour. The cake itself had a chewy texture. Flavour is light and simple. Trip #2 - Traditional tofu pudding ($5.95) - finally tried their dofu fah. You can get it hot or cold; we went the former. Tofu was smooth but it could have used more syrup and ginger flavour. - 3x Grass jelly ($5.95) - still the best homemade grass jelly we've had. Will come back again for their grass jelly. read more

They aren't always busy but when it does it's a long wait. The other location is much better in lighting and atmosphere because it's pretty dead here. There's street parking right outside of Sweet Memory or there's parking in the back of this complex. Very tight spots but you can park! Tried their Taiwanese marinated pork belly rice dish. I love this dish because it just satisfies you and the portion is pretty worth it! In addition to that, our group of friends shared two dessert bowls - one was grass jelly and the other was jasmine tea. I prefer this over MeetFresh because it's a good deal compared to that chain. I've always wanted to give this place a shot since knowing that they were opened by Memory Corner, which is one of my fav Taiwanese restaurants in Richmond. Regardless if you're here for a quick meal or dessert, Sweet Memory's got you covered since they do also have a few meal options (from Memory Corner's menu)! We opted for their tofu pudding, grass jelly, boba pearls, and jasmine jelly. Portions are pretty big, depending on what you have beforehand, it actually might be enough to share something between people but they have a minimum charge so be careful with that one! Everything was pretty good. The tofu pudding comes in one chunk and was lukewarm; for those that prefer it in slices and pipping hot, this might not be the one for you. I was very impressed with their jasmine jelly though because it was very fragrant and had amazing jasmine tea flavours. They also have a oolong jelly on the menu as well and if it's anything like their jasmine tea one, I can't wait to come back to try this! For an old school Chinese soul like me, it was great to catch up with my extended family while eating some dessert and listening to some Teresa Tang! I actually called here ahead of time to ensure I would get a table since we had 12 people and staff were very nice about it and were able to have the tables set up for us before we arrived. The place is not that big so seating can be limited if it's a busy night. Also, tables are small so it's not meant for big groups over 6 people (but depends on how much you're willing to squish). I like the concept of this Taiwanese desserts place - they play up to the idea that food is strongly tied to our memories. For me, Sweet Memory did bring me back to a great experience I had visiting Taiwan and trying similar foods for the first time (it helps that the food was quite good). We ordered a dou fu fa (tofu pudding) with three kinds of yam and taro balls, the stewed pork over rice, and wintermelon oolong tea. The rice was very greasy as expected due to the large slice of pork belly, but it was tasty. It had a small bunch of bamboo shoots and a boiled egg to go with it, and for two people was a good in between for lunch/dinner since we were not hungry for a full meal. 3/5 The dou fu fa was a decent texture and perfectly sweetened, and the taro and yam balls had a nice flavor as well, although I think the texture was not as bouncy as some I have tried before. 4.5/5 As for drinks, even though I usually don't think they are worth it, this place has some unique items such as wintermelon oolong tea, so I thought I would give it a try. I definitely think there were distinct flavors of oolong and wintermelon without oolong being too overpowering. It came chilled with no ice. The wintermelon tea has a stronger concentration than the complimentary tea. It was good and worth the try. 5/5 read more

I was lucky to discover this hidden gem, which only opened about 1 month ago, from my boyfriend's sister. This is a sister restaurant to Memory Corner but this establishment focuses on traditional Taiwanese desserts and savoury snacks. The first time I stepped in, I thoroughly enjoyed the interior decor. It was like I was taken back in time to Taiwan, with its concrete covered bricks, old paintings and traditional Taiwanese relics. Everything has been thought out with care, even down to the stools, pots and spoons for that old time feel. Also, the free sweet barley tea that is served is on its own already really delicious and worth your visit. What stands out the most is the house-made Soft Tofu Dessert. The tofu is delicate, soft and very smooth. I add pearls to it ($1) and the sweet pearls with the silky cold tofu is perfection of sweet yet not too sweet. I shared a Traditional Shaved Ice dessert with my boyfriend as well. We chose 3 topping options of pearls, pudding and 3 balls (taro and yams). It was a giant tower of finely shaved ice and all the goodies were on the bottom. All mixed up, it was a spoonful of cold goodness. I also tried the Coffee Jelly. The jelly had a great texture, not too soft or hard, and it had a lovely flavourful. All the desserts I tried was super refreshing and delicious. The desserts are very traditional Taiwanese and focuses on grass jelly, tofu pudding, shaved ice, thick toast and bubble tea.
