My boyfriend and I ordered take out because we previously had a positive experience. However, our recent experience was so awful. When I called in, the lady that took the call struggled to take down my order. She was not familiar with the menu at all. I patiently repeated my order several times but she responded by naming different dishes. I was not confident that she would place my order correctly, so I asked to speak to another staff. Once I arrived, the same lady asked me if I was dining in and I told her multiple times that I had ordered take out. Then I found out that the order was never placed so the kitchen never made our food. There were no other customers there so I don't know how they didn't put in my order since I had placed it 10 minutes prior. To make matters worse, once we got home, we found out that they gave us an incorrect order. Instead of crispy garlic chicken and rice, we received a shrimp pad kee mow. This was extremely disappointing because my boyfriend does not eat seafood and doesn't like noodles in general. We went out of our way to come to this restaurant and chose Sweet Rice over other options that are closer to us. Considering the poor service, we will not be coming back or recommend it to others hence the 1 star review. I generally don't rate restaurants based on the service but the service was so bad that I lost my appetite for their food. Wow. 10/10 for me. We walked in and sat down, ordered and had our food within 10 min. Service was friendly and quick. The space was clean and open. Each item we ordered was absolutely delicious. The stand out dish for me was the LAAB (Beef Salad) extremely flavorful, fresh and the beef was so tender! They give you cabbage to make little tacos with the beef. We also ordered the Lao Beef Jerky, this is basically hot beef jerky, and it was tasty! The last item we ordered was the Crispy Chicken, it had a thin crispy fried outside and a delicious garlic glaze on it and came with rice. Got a picture after we demolished all the food. Brought a group of 13 ladies celebrating September and October birthdays. One of the gals celebrating is Laotian, so she did yes let's go for it. I was the only one who had been here, and I love it. It was everyone else's first time. We all live about 20 minutes away so it's not bad at all. The service was amazing, Michael did a great job taking our orders, with no stress, he was actually pretty calm with having such a large group during lunch. Everyone loved what they ordered. We ordered a shrimp pad kee mao, Laos style papaya salad with shrimp, chicken wings, and a crab meat fried rice. Let's start off with the pad kee mao, it was full of flavor and I got it in 2 stars and it was a good spice lol. Second item was the crab meat fried rice with no spice for my kids to eat. And it was filled with crab meat, I would say it could use a tiny more season to it other than that it is good. The other dish we got was the Laos papaya salad and it's good! Very authentic flavors and we got that with shrimp and 1 star. And let me tell you that 1 star was pretty spicy but a good spicy. Next item was the chicken wings and it was good. With all the construction and freeway closures, getting to Sweet Rice in Auburn from Shoreline was not bad at all on a Sunday. Traffic flowed smoothly each way and we didn't run into any issues. We arrived at 11 am opening and were immediately greeted and took a seat at a booth. Our server was attentive and made great recommendations. We ordered the Sweet Rice Mix Plate, which includes 3 meats: Lao Spicy Sausage, Crispy Pork Riblet & Beef Jerky and dipping sauce accompanied by sticky rice. The Lao spicy sausage was filled with lemon grass flavor that was herbal and really helped cut through the meanness of every item on this plate. It is spicy. It is not a fake mild spicy. It is definitely spicy but not an uncomfortable spicy instead, it is more like a nice kick. Thai Tea $4.99 Their Thai tea was very strong and you could tell that it was seeped in the leaves for a long time or at least uses a very strong mix to make the Thai tea. I did think this was a little too sweet but I am the type of person that likes my milk teas at 0% sweetness. Fried Chicken Skin not yet on the menu, but if they do put it on their menu, I would highly suggest you get it. It was still busy and I only saw two servers, but they managed to arrange a table for all of us, which I really appreciated given how small the restaurant is. The vibe at this place is more casual similar to a fast food diner. You order at a kiosk, and then the staff brings the food to your table. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken. Unfortunately, it was overly sweet. I understand Pad Thai tends to be on the sweeter side, but this was much sweeter than expected, especially compared to versions I've had at other places. I also ordered it with a highest spice level, but there was no heat at all. Beyond that, the dish lacked flavor overall, which made it a disappointment for me. Underrated place for great Laotian and Thai food in Auburn! I don't think I would have heard of this place had it not been for one of my friends who found out through a foodie he follows. Their Lao platter is the biggest thing here and that's exactly what I got with him and another friend of ours. We came here on a Friday evening and did struggle a little to find parking in the parking lot this place shares with other businesses in a somewhat tight plaza. It's a little dim inside but there's also an ample amount of booth seating fit for groups of four or more. The Lao platter comes with a ton of things and feeds 2-3 people, but several things stood out to me and my friends: - The meatloaf, pork rinds and riblets were delicious and flavorful all around. - The beef jerky was very tasty but also much harder to chew than you would expect. - The papaya salad had a little too much spice for our liking, and this was the only thing we couldn't finish entirely. - Both kinds of ham on the platter were also a hit among us. - We were all definitely full after having this platter, so I can say that it does indeed serve at least 3 people! We also got a pad see ew to split. It was standard, though the meat was slightly hard to chew and noodles came apart a little too easily. Service was also slightly slow, especially when we wanted to get extra utensils for our table. Overall great place for Laotian and Thai food and would come back. My mom and I were greeted by a female employee who let us know that we could have a seat anywhere we liked. There were four tables occupied it seemed like and a person ahead of us was there for pick up. We chose a booth and got waters and menus. I got the Sweet Rice Mix Plate while my mom got the pineapple fried rice with chicken and 2 stars for the spice level. I also asked for the pandan mango sticky rice for dessert. We got the pineapple fried rice first which was surprising but the mix plate came a little afterwards. We were also surprised with the complimentary fried chicken skins which wasn't even on their menu but it was delicious. The pineapple fried rice was a bit too salty and oily for my mother's taste but I enjoyed it, though I will agree it was a bit more oily than I would like. As others have mentioned, the sausage that comes on the mix plate is the star of the show and you can just taste all the seasoning and herbs put into it. Absolute umami bomb! The other meats were too dry for me and it gets tiring on the teeth so had to take them home. The sweet rice that comes with the mix plate was also way too dry for our taste and that was the one thing we did not pack up. The pandan mango sticky rice was refreshing but I feel the sticky rice and mango ratio was off as we had a lot of rice leftover. The mangos were ripe and the sticky rice for this one was a better texture than the one we got with our meal. The service here was stellar. Our waitress checked in on us often and had a positive attitude with other customers as well. Thanks to Siobhan and Giselle for being amazing servers! The ambiance here is pretty decent but definitely can use a touch up as there were some areas that need to be repainted and definitely could use a bit more to make the place pop! We contemplated on getting the Lao Platter, having seen it on social media, but decided against it and to do family style. There's a walk up counter to order. We ordered a variety of dishes, specifically the Mixed Plate (all the meats were tasty), Crispy Fired Chicken (not as crispy as I like, but flavorful), Crab Fried Rice (taste was alright, not memorable), Pad See Ew (also alright), Tom Yum Soup (was good). My favorite dish was the Mixed Plate appetizer, particularly the Crispy Pork Riblets. The food came out rather quickly. I find that the spice stars seemed a little spicier to me, where a 0 and 1 tasted spicier than I'd expect. My friend did order the Fresh Spring rolls and we were served the Fried Spring Rolls, she even asked specifically for the fresh ones, but when she asked about it our server basically ignored her (by that time they were rather busy and backed up in the kitchen, but still no acknowledgement of the miscommunication). I would say all in all, I was expecting a little more from this restaurant (maybe it was an off day), but check it out and see for yourself. read more

We were so excited to try this place after seeing the post on IG. Parking was decent and close. Now for the service and food. They seem to be short-staffed and frazzled. It took an hour and a half for the Lao platter ( the smaller one) and egg rolls. The lime sauce is $3.00 and DAMN it was small. I was really looking forward to it all. When we received the platter, it was a lot less than what I saw online, like significantly less. The flavors were alright, nothing memorable. You know when you taste something and you finish and are already planning the next time to go again because the flavors were just AMAZING? Sadly, this is not the case. It was clean inside and customer service needs a lot of improvement. I witnessed a lot of customers frustrated. Maybe a revamp of their routines should be done since this wasn't working. The 2 staff helping and serving were very kind but you could tell they were anxious. They seemed to be running out of ingredients for drinks and dishes. I'm highly disappointed and doubt I'll return. Tried this place since it was nearby a softball invitational where I had just dropped my daughter off. Ordered the chicken pad Thai and the crispy fried pork riblets. The service was weirdly quiet. After a quick determination that I wasn't picking up an online order I was left to order from the kiosk. The receipt I requested printed at their desk but no one was around to give it to me. The pork riblets were great! Crispy yet tender with great flavor. The pad thai was meh. The chicken was chewy and the sauce was just flavorless. The portion was very large and a good value. I ended up taking most of it home and it benefited greatly from me adding some fish sauce and a bit of chili crunch to it. Would probably return if I was local and maybe try other dishes. read more

Got the chicken pad Thai which, of course I love, the red curry with chicken, the pineapple curry with veggies, the beef stirfry dish and spring rolls with peanut sauce. Huge hit! Worst restaurant experience ever! Staff was non attentive right from the walk in. We ordered fried chickens, sweet rice platter, Kao piak sen (protein $3+ extra) from the touch pad menu. Then self seated ourselves but the table was dirty (from the last customer) but no one came to clean it. We had to ask them to clean it. Waited 15 min but still no one came to clean our table. They never brought glass water neither. There were customers in front of us that had been waiting for over an hour for their food and everyone was getting frustrated. We waited for more than 50 min for ours. It was a major regret stepping foot into that restaurant and I will never return to it. Food was 4/10, everything was way too sweet.
