GOOD CARROT CAKE (Iced Carrot Walnut Pound Cake) I bought this at my local Safeway in California and IMO it tastes great! Just what I want from a carrot cake - moist, spices, nutty, with a sweet frosting. I've bought it twice. Both times there has been an expiration date sticker on top, see photo. It was in the bakery section of Safeway, not refrigerated but I keep it in the refrigerator at home. $7.49 for a 15 ounce cube of cake. I was on an Amtrak Palmetto train from Charleston SC to Washington DC on December 26. I purchased a blueberry muffin in the cafe car. When I returned to my seat and proceeded to eat the muffin, I found an inch long twig in the muffin. I returned it to the cafe car and the gentleman told me that it was a cinnamon stick. Not a chance. I could have choked. He did return my money. I sent an email to the company to alert them of this and received no response. That is why I am posting here. Be careful. read more

I will make an amendment to my previous review - About a week or two after the hair in my food dilemma. My colleague called them on my behalf (because she was the one who purchased their food, and passed it out, she felt it was her fault so she gave them a call to complain)...they sent us a couple of boxes of complementary pastries which was really cool because we were able to pass it around and be the company friendly's for a week or two. Plus they kindly apologized and took ownership for the problem. They are cool with me so my negative comment is edited. Whenever a company takes the time to apologize, and provides good customer service I think it is a perfect eraser for the previous problem. So happy to have a taste of the Bronx out here in CA. Local market carries the marble pound cake and it is exceptional. Reminds me of sitting in a diner in NYC after a meal and having a slice of pound cake and a cup of coffee. Expensive but worth it. read more

I'm in SoCal. Yesterday, I picked up their Chocolate Ganache Cupcake for a chocolate lover's bday from a grocery store. Usually I go to indie bakeries, but I was in a time-crunch and decided on this particular cupcake (of packaged cupcakes) based on what it looked like (because I'm shallow like that). Anyway, the cupcake was huge and I had a quarter of it. Wow! Delicious. Rich. Moist. Decadent. I like chocolate, but it's not my favorite; however, I was surprised and impressed. Somehow, the cupcake tasted super fresh--even though it's from the other coast. Definitely trying their other cupcakes and I recommend Sweet Sam's. read more

Wow. I just ate a Sweet Sam's Chocolate Ganache Cupcake. I bought it at a gourmet store close to my home and really didn't expect it to taste as good as it did. This is way better than the cupcakes I have bought at retail bakeries. The cake was moist and the butter cream filling was a little sweet but the butter balanced it so that it wasn't too sweet. The cupcake was topped with chocolate ganache - a little sweet, but balanced with semi-sweet chocolate, so not too sweet. Delicious! read more

My local grocer starting carrying this brand, and I gave one of their cupcakes (Vanilla Buttercream) a try since it came very highly recommended by one of the store employees. My husband and I split the cupcake and I was shocked at how dry it was. We both looked at each other and yelled "WATER"!!! I pulled the container out of the trash to check the expiration date since I assumed it was WELL past its date, but it was actually good until 01/05/17 (per grocery store label). Walnut Brownies are not your average brownies!!!!! When I first purchased these I was a little skeptical. Thinking they would taste like a little debbie. When these cute, individually packaged cupcakes and whoopie pies started showing up at my local grocery stores, I was intrigued and decided to try them out and see where this bakery was located. Boy was I surprised to find out that they're in the Bronx since I bought a red velvet whoopie pie here in Philadelphia! The whoopie pie was pretty good, moist cake with a light red velvet flavor, lots of cream cheese frosting filling. I purchased a piece of loaf cake from the market and noticed there was no expiration date on the packaged item. I emailed the company and was informed they don't put expiration dates on their products and that they are delivered fresh. So, eat at your own risk. I'm not taking that chance. I threw the item out and lost $1.50. Cheaper than a visit to the hospital. I don't agree with your practice. That's a poor business decision in my opinion. That's fine in a bakery, but that doesn't work with packaged goods. read more

I had an array of goodies from sweet sams and I have to say these desserts are amazing. The iced lemon cake is perfectly sweet with a kick of lemon. Was tipped off to Sweet Sam's baked goods by a friend and I'm soo glad I took his recommendation! While I find most coffee cakes to be way too dry and only edible with a pint of chocolate milk, the Sweet Sam's coffee cake that I had was perfect. Can't say enough good things about Sweet Sam's. First encountered (and fell in love with) Sweet Sam's, the best crumb cake of my life, when it was served on the Amtrak Auto train. My entire family and I were completely hooked, and did our best to shamelessly take as many extras as we could whenever we departed continental breakfast. The flavor and texture of the crumb cake was total perfection every time, even the individually wrapped ones which we consumed several days later. They were simply divine. They became the highlight of every subsequent Amtrak trip, that we all would specifically look forward to. Myself, my husband, my kids and my mother have essentially never all agreed to love a single food item in the universe outside of Sweet Sam's crumb cake, so that's really saying something. I got in touch recently with Sweet Sam's to inquire about their products and the assistance I received from Annette was beyond exemplary and gracious. There is no expiration date on any of their products!! I bought one of their red velvet cupcakes from CVS and as I was eating it realized there was green mold growing on one of the sides and the frosting had a gross smell of expired cheese. Just HORRIBLE! I got a refund but what would've happened had I gotten sick!? There needs to be an expiration date. Your putting peoples health at risk! The iced lemon pound cake is amazing! Even coming out of a package it's just as good (if not better) than homemade versions. It's super moist and dense (like a pound cake should be) and the balance between the sweet icing and the tart lemon is perfect!!
