It's been a long time since I've been to Sweet Science. I miss Uncle Fred's . This black owned spot is spacious and airy. Has ample seating indoors and outdoors. They have several frozen drinks. I had 3 Henny Coladas like it was a a Friday . I was told the Frosé was alright. They just taste so good. I enjoyed my hefty meal. Jerk Ribs with Mac and cheese and collard greens. The greens were a bit spicy. The jerk ribs were actually tender despite it looking dry from the rub. The shrimp and grits were good but could've been more grits. The plate just makes it look like it's a huge portion. My other two coworkers had the steak sandwich and fish(catfish) and chips. The music was straight 90s and 00s R&B. We were cubing and chilling. The cuisine is American they serve fried chicken dinner only after 5pm and their cocktail menu looks good. Come and support this black owned spot and tell them I sent you. read more

A group of us went here yesterday. The server Daniel was nice and professional. All 6 of us had something different and we all enjoyed our meals. The ONLY slight complaint was that the unlimited mimosas that three us had barely had any champagne and we needed to ask for more to be added. Other than that no negative comments. My friend and I took a weekend trip NYC and someone suggested this place for bottomless brunch. We arrived as soon as they opened as we're used to brunch being packed as soon as they open. To our surprise we were the first ones there. The inside was nicely decorated, but we opted to sit outside. It was a nice patio and it was fun people watching. We were greeted by our waiter, I ordered the bottomless mimosas. My friend got the next tier that included the Bellinis and beer. The mimosas were pretty good. They did not skimp on the champagne at all. They had pineapple, oj, guava, and papaya. They came out in carafes. I did take off a star because our waiter never came back to get our food order. We had to ask the guy cleaning the tables to get him. I ordered the jerk salmon and lox. It took about 30 minutes for the food to come out. It was was delicious. My friend got the biscuits and gravy. She said it was amazing. We got a new waitress and she was amazing and kept the carafes coming. She even offered us a cup to take our remaining mimosas with us. I went in to use the restroom about an hour and a half into our stay and the place was packed and there was a live dj. The inside was lit! So I'm thinking the dj comes around 1ish. On a Sunday evening, we waited for our other guests at the bar, watching the game. Excellent bartending. The after brunch dinner crowd was small and the loud music was quieter after 7pm as we ate a delicious meal. Great wings and calamari appetizers. My shrimp and grits were true to my Cajun tastebuds. The place is more a bar ambiance than a dinner destination , but I enjoyed it all. And the staff was above standard. This place is so cute and a much needed spot that sells food and drinks near Montrose. We came here for a quick bite to eat for dinner and weren't disappointed. The drinks were well mixed, the food was super fresh and well seasoned, and the overall experience was good. Though the steak sandwich was absolutely delicious (and I will be coming back for another), the eatability on the sandwich is a little low at the steak pieces are bigger than an average sandwich bite. Very good and yea this is the one with their delicious food and excellent service. I was able to get a last-minute reservation for two for Sunday brunch for me and my bestie. I loved, loved, loved my steak and eggs meal with the eggs done just right and the salad tasting good, good, good (my meal came with a side salad). I also ordered biscuits (they come with two) with honey butter so I could enjoy some carbs for more of a fill-up and they were good there in the restaurant. On the reheat though, when I got home - they were quite dry. Anyway, our waiter was really nice as was the host. Oh and the DJ was good as well. Definitely loved this spot for sure. read more

My bf came here Saturday with his family and raved about the food, so I came Monday with my friend and yep!! Best lobster bisque I've ever had!! So scrumptious. We also had the oxtail spring rolls, which is huge and spicy. For entrees my friend had the lamb chops with collard greens and mashed potatoes, I had the roasted chicken and broccoli with mashed potatoes. The chicken was delicious and juicy, broccoli was very flavorful, mashed potatoes lacked flavor. We enjoyed our drinks. Server was attentive and quick. I came to this restaurant on January 13th for my sorority's founders day event. The host and wait staff were so accommodating and exemplified great customer service. The environment was trendy with great music. So shout out to the DJ. Not to mention how damn good the drinks were. The margarita was everything. My food ( I had the crab cakes Benedict) was also very good. The arugula salad that accompanied the meal was so delicious. I was not disappointed at all. Upon entry, we were informed of the protocol before we were able to be seated and given a little speech about do's and don't at Sweet Science. They sprayed us down, front and back, bottom of our shoes, took our temperature, sanitized our hands and left our information. Then we were informed that we couldn't walk around or take pictures with any of the artwork on the walls. Basically the only point they want you to leave your table is to exit and/or use the bathroom. Also, we scanned the barcode menu which pops up on your phone.I appreciated the extensive measures they have imposed; however, it may limit your fun. My issue was the limitations with the menu. Prior to arrival, one of my friend have been here and raved about a few things, but we looked at the menu, it didn't offer too much. We opted for the following: Honey Biscuits-- 6 out of 10, they were too dry. Think a step above Popeyes--have your water ready. Cheddar Grits--10 out 10-very good Mac and Cheese--8.5 out of 10-when I saw it, I thought it would be bad, but actually was very tasty. I asked to remove the jalapeño and bacon, so for some of you all, they may get be an extra kick for you. Wings--didn't have but my friends all seemed to enjoy. Fries-- can't really mess up fries but they were good I ordered the drink called Up (I believe it was Amaretto and Hennessy) I didn't care for it. I wanted the warm cider, but that wasn't available. The staff was very friendly here and the food didn't take too long. They charge an automatic 20% gratuity which I frown upon because often times when the gratuity is automatic, the service is lacking effort. However, we did have good service. So, I visited Sweet Science for my first outdoor dining experience during the pandemic. I'm impressed and happy to have had such a positive experience. Sweet Science is following the guidelines, and I suppose taking extra precautions for their staff and patrons alike. Waitstaff wore gloves and masks... to enter the establishment to use the restroom required that I wait for staff to dispense hand sanitizer for me and give me an all over spritz of sanitizer, which is something I do at home whenever I re-enter my apartment. Lucky for Sweet Science that they are located on a corner, which made it easier for them to adapt to outdoor dining. The side street isn't necessarily busy, or heavy with traffic. There were several single tables and seating for two on the sidewalk, as well as benches and tables on the street, complete with umbrellas. I had a light meal of chicken wings (pineapple) and a Froze, which was really really really really really really really good. Came here for a catch up with a girlfriend. On a Friday at around 4/5 the place wasn't busy and was able to get a table no problem. Happy hour was pretty standard but we ended up ordering from the cocktail menu. The waitresses were very attentive and I'd say we had good service throughout the night. For food we ordered a bunch of appetizers to share between two people. The crab risotto 7/10 pretty straight forward, oxtail egg rolls 3/10 really didn't taste like much, 12 wings (5/10) we did the dry rub and the South Carolina tangy both sauces were good but it was a standard wing, we could have gotten 6 and been alright, and honey biscuits (7/10). During the Christmas season the restaurant was very festive, down to renaming the cocktail menu. The drinks were all very tasty and at a $14 price point. I'd come back for a quick link the place was cute, the drinks were good and the service was friendly. Happy hour however, isn't really worth it to me. read more

I've been here a few times for lunch and I am absolutely in love. I had a froze or should I say several of them. It is sweet but hits the spot on a hot summer afternoon. After a few I was nice!!!!! If you are looking to get drunk quick this is not the drink for you but it will sneak up on you if you have enough. I also had the flattop burger and Mac and cheese. I was skeptical at first look at the Mac and cheese since it wasn't baked but it was so good and creamy. My friend asked to take and her spoon kept coming into my plate. My burger was mouth watering. My friend and I were in need of a boozy brunch on a Saturday afternoon. We decided to venture out to Brooklyn and try Sweet Science. Collectively we ordered crab cakes, eggs benedict, bacon egg and cheese mac and cheddar grits. The only item that was okay was the bacon, egg and cheese mac; the rest of the food was 10/10. We both got the bottomless mimosas which were also really good! They played all of my favorite songs from the 90s and early 00s which is always a vibe. My only con is that the music is too loud - couldn't have a convo without shouting. The service was also great as well! We were looking for a place for brunch coming from Harlem to Brooklyn while visiting NY. Sweet Science did not disappoint! Our server, Delana answered all our questions and gave great recommendations (plus her accent is so NY!) Ordered the Shrimp & Grits, a waffle with a side a bacon. My sister also had shrimp & grits, with a waffle and mom had a waffle with the BLT sandwich. The waffle was sweet, and the shrimp and grits portion were huge, but I finished all that food.... whew it was good! The DJ was setting up while we were eating. The music is mix of hiphop and R&B. The decor is cute, but you can't go wrong with a picture of the king of Brooklyn - Notorious Big/Big Poppa/Biggie Smalls on the wall and they didn't disappoint. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and was really hoping that I would be able to leave a great review...but that is NOT the case! First, music is way tooo loud! I couldn't hear myself think, let alone hear the waiter, who absolutely needed more customer service training. I believe his name was Matt. Not friendly and couldn't give an informative opinion on the menu. Thank God for the hostess, who was more than willing to share the msot popular dishes from the menu, and checked on our food which was delayed coming out. We ordered everyting togethrer but was told that the appetizers and drinks would come out first. About 30 minutes later, all we had were our watered down drinks and no sign of the appetizers. After inquiring several times, 10 minites later ALL of the food comes out at the same time! Below is a breakdwon of what we ordered: Drinks: Hot Mess w/ Mezcal - the fresh watermelon was definitely syrup and the drink was way too sweet and not strong enough High Hitter - not strong enough and too sweet Appetizers: Dry rub chicken wings - seasoning was light and just and kind of bland Chicken and dumplings - the BEST choice out of everything we ordered Entrees: Rack of Lamb - AGAIN, little to no seasoning. I was suppsoed to get both collard greens and the mac and cheese which was a substitute for the potato salad. When I inquired about this, the waiter said that the lamb only comes with one side. By the way, the mac and cheese was not it and way too much going on in it. The collard greens were very good! Slow Cooked Half Rack Pork Ribs - AGAIN, little to no seasoning. Notice the trend?! Well here I go with another brunch review! I do love my bottomless brunches don't I?! My daughter chose Sweet Science because it was within walking distance of her apartment and had everything we look for in a good brunch - bottomless, good breakfast and lunch options, and a cool vibe. And oh it was a vibe, with clientele ranging from a Hipster wearing a Toque and wire rimmed glasses looking like a cross between an English professor and a Norwegian fisherman beside a table with an athleisure clad couple with their adorable labradoodle, and the next table over, gorgeous stunning black queens with crowns of braids. (And then there's us in jeans and pullover university sweaters just trying not to freeze on the 3 block walk in a blustery January day). The music was pumping, but not so loud we couldn't have a conversation. I love that there's 3 levels of options for the bottomless bubbles (picture attached) so you can pick your poison. We all chose the "High-Key Turnt" option. I started with a spicy fabulously decorated Bloody Mary full of horseradish, OMG so good. My husband started with a screw driver, other drinks included the passion fruit frozen margarita (which generally was not loved, not enough passion fruit flavor or frozen enough. It was more slushy than frozen) and a HenneyColada which we all agreed was pretty tasty. Throughout the 90 minutes we tried margaritas, mimosas, a few draft beers, and angry orchards. Our server, Lucie from France, stayed on top of everything and was quick and pleasant with all the food and drink deliveries! I was really really surprised about the food prices! This is New York City! How dare the food prices be reasonable! I was wholly tempted by the chicken and waffles (you know that's my breakfast jam!) but I saw the Bacon, Egg and cheese biscuits at another table and I had to have it! OK well I didn't actually wind up having it but my daughter did. I got the hot honey chicken on a biscuit and I asked for the hot honey to be on the side because I was worried that "hot" meant "spicy" but didn't come out on the side, so I just dealt with it. But it wasn't spicy. It was just hot and delicious. My husband got the Norwegian egg, another of our table mates got the cheeseburger and another got the jerk chicken hash. We also got a side of french fries, sharp cheesy grits, and the corn bread waffles, because you know I had to try those waffles. Everyone was happy with their choices, however, the french fries were those homemade ones with the skins on them that never quite get crispy so that was sad for me but they were still good. The grits were phenomenal and the cornbread waffles didn't seem to have a lot of cornbread in them, and they were dry, like really dry even dipped in syrup. I would say the only real thing that I could negatively comment on was the sad little mixed green salad that came on all of our plates. That was unnecessary. It didn't elevate the dishes at all. The bathrooms were clean and cozy, but they need a hook inside the stall to hang a bag or a coat! We had a great time and were fat and happy and, well, turnt when we left! If I'm back in Brooklyn on another Sunday morning, I'm looking forward to returning to Sweet Science! read more

Came here for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. The dining room is large, comfortable and wasn't packed at 4:40. Note that there is a gap where the kitchen closes between brunch and dinner service, we didn't mind waiting. Drinks are on the pricer side but super tasty -- especially the frozen passion fruit margarita. The food here is the star. Everything actually tastes like they care about taste. The food isn't hype or product. We went the small plate route to try more things: I think the 4 cheese Mac & Cheese with the bacon bits and sliced jalapeños might be the best Mac & Cheese I've ever had. No flavor overpowered the other and instead complemented each other. We loved the Poutine. Again the fries, cheese curd and gravy were all sharp and great on their own and together each flavor was still powerful without being buried by the other. We got the Spicy Pineapple wings and the South Carolina BBQ wings. I liked the Spicy Pineapple, it was more sweet than spicy. My love liked the South Carolina BBQ better, which were tangy. The wings were not sticky or over sauced. The service was very attentive. We did have to ask for water and our small eating plates were taken even though we still had food on the table. Upon arrival the place wasn't packed and had an open design. Great spot for a private event. We were seated and given a menu. I had previously scooped out the menu online and knew i wanted the chicken and waffles based on the reviews. I ordered a froze and it was great. Food- the chicken and waffles was generous. Usually places give you only 2 pieces of chicken for more however here it was three. Nicely fried however it was salty in my opinion. The waffles i wish were cooked a little longer. I like waffles with a crisp to them. These didn't have it. I tried some of the sausage and biscuit and felt that was salty as well and the biscuit was dry. The food was ok but i feel it just missed on the seasoning. The vibe was good and i would definitely like to check out happy hour and would definitely give brunch a try again. read more

Sweet Science is such a dope spot for brunch. I came on a Sunday afternoon, and was feeling the good vibes as soon as I entered. What more can I ask for -- great r&b tunes and drinks! I definitely recommend the frosé. I was a little disappointed with my food however. I ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy. My biscuit was a bit on the harder side, and the sausage gravy wasn't the traditional southern style sausage gravy I'm used too. It was also a bit salty. My friend ordered the shrimp and waffle. The shrimp were really tasty. We didn't really care for the syrup though. Despite me not really enjoying my food, I'm still giving this place 4 stars because the customer service was stellar and I enjoyed my overall experience.
