My wife & I found The Sweet Treat Stop food truck in Alameda over the weekend, right next to the Off the Grid event at the South Shore Center. We had just had lunch and needed some sugar to finish off the afternoon. There was a large crowd in front of this truck, so it had to be good, right? Well, when we got toward the front of the line, we got a glimpse of the different delectable delights the truck was offering. After much debate, my wife got a Snickerdoodle cupcake, while I chose the Chocolate Explosion cupcake. The first warning I received came from one of the bakers. She asked us if we wanted our cupcakes boxed up, or served with forks. The next sign came when she handed us the cupcakes, and our arms almost fell off after lifting these suckers! Finally, I took a bite out of my cupcake. They were not kidding when they named this treat "Chocolate Explosion." My mouth almost blew up with all the chocolate in my mouth. The frosting was very silky, the cake was light and moist, and there was a dollop of chocolate mousse inside the cake, like a prize inside a Cracker Jack box. My wife had a similar experience with her Snickerdoodle cupcake. She said it was like eating a cinnamon roll in cake form. I always see the truck at the Alameda Point Antiques Faire and finally decided to try it today. At first, I was daunted because each cupcake is $4. I've been to a lot of other specialty cupcake places and this is the most I've ever paid for one cupcake. But I can tell you that it is totally worth the price! I got the Plain Jane, which is simply an all-vanilla cupcake with a little sugar flower decoration on top. A less adventurous choice than I would usually go for, but I have no regrets! It was literally the best cupcake I've ever had. Better than any other cupcake place in both taste and texture. The cake is SO light and moist, but still has a strong vanilla bean flavor. The frosting is thinly spread and incredibly light for a buttercream frosting. It was not as sweet as I was expecting it to be. As far as cake to frosting ratio, there is significantly more cake than frosting, which I usually don't like. But the cake itself was sooo delicious that I didn't even care. So I'm still coming down from the high of the cupcake and I don't really know what to tell you except track down the truck's location and get yourself a cupcake!! My second time ordering cupcakes and they were as delicious as the first order. This time I had special ordered German chocolate cupcakes for my father in laws birthday. I'm not a personal fan of coconut. Chef Audrey was kind enough to offer making half a dozen instead of a dozen. I also ordered a variety of other flavors I was dying to try. Like always, everyone's palate was pleased. Cake is so moist even after being in the fridge overnight (the third day was still moist!) and the butter cream frosting, so light! I've seen this truck in my neighborhood for months now, parked in various well trafficked spots, but did I stop? No. Today it happened to be in my line of traffic, so I couldn't help but to pull over. So, so many times have I been ever disappointed in the cupcake stores popping up everywhere, selling thir dried out, overpriced but pretty cakes -trust me, I WANTED TO DISLIKE THESE. I just couldn't. 1st, the cake. So moist, and full of flavor in a cloud-like bite like no other. I couldn't believe it was from a convection oven! 2nd, the fillings, lemon curd was fabulous, just the right amount of tang to the sweet and a smooth consistency. Then 3rd, the icing. I am not an icing fan, but theirs is not overkill, just the right amount for those who like icing. The Chefs Audrey and Jen are masters of their craft, for sure. I wanted to like the cupcake from this little truck, but I just didn't. I had the chocolate cupcake and I found the flavor lacking. It lacked in chocolate and in texture. The frosting was very light in texture. Good if you like that, but I don't. I prefer the dense frosting. But still, I found the cupcake dry and the frosting didn't help at all. Maybe I will give you a second go around. But with all the new places opening up, I just don't know. Keep trucking. read more

You get this massive hunk of goodness that has a smooth, moist, rich cupcake and frosting that compliments the cake so well, thinking about it makes my mouth water. My rule of thumb is, when trying a new cupcakery, make sure you pick your go-to cupcake flavors -- mine is (dark) chocolate. The Chocolate Explosion seriously blew my taste buds' minds. It had nice bitter notes and melted in my mouth. I wanted to eat it all, but then I thought I'd be sad when it was gone. So, I saved a few bites for later; I ate it chilled. A different level of amazing! I also tried the banana cupcake. It's not my favorite flavor in general, but the cake itself was light and you can really taste the banana essence. You know something is good when as soon as you taste it, involuntarily let out an expletive word and immediately know that as soon as you finish inhaling it and get cleaned up you're going to write the pants of a review. Was knocking out errands and was picking something up from Best Buy when I spotted the cute little pink truck in the parking lot of what used to be Toys R Us in Emeryville. Being a friday I thought why not treat yourself and bring something nice home for the hubby too? Lucky to be located in a huge parking lot, so parking was no problem at all. When I walked up to the truck I was immediately warmly greeted by a gentleman, I perused through the very descriptive signs and picked out a Chocolate Explosion for myself and a Snickerdoodle for the hubby. Cupcakes were $5 each which is a bit pricey but its not easy running a food truck so high prices are to be expected. Cupcakes were individually and neatly packaged up into small to go containers. Fast forward to battling traffic, getting home, knocking out some homework and finally sitting down to taste my treat. When I opened the container I was pleasantly surprised at how big the cupcake was, I didnt get too good a look when I was picking them out as I was more into reading the sign than judging the aesthetics of the cupcakes. It is definitely not your average run of the mill cupcake. Larger in size and wrapper is not the typical cupcake liner. The top is packed with a delicious buttercream that you wont be able to get enough of. Its not heavy or overly sweet like most frostings, its just right. And the cake was moist andjust the right density. Overall the cupcake was packed with flavor and was light, it didnt make you feel as if you'd devoured a cup of sugar as most cupcakes tend to make me feel. As i mentioned earlier a few choice words slipped from my mouth as soon as i tasted the frosting and bit into the cupcake. Hubby ended up loving his cupcake as well. This spot is a must try! Happened upon this lovely food truck by chance last night when we stopped at best buy to grab something on our way home after visiting SF for the day. As semi local tourists we knew we wouldn't be back anytime soon so we dove right it and bought 6 cupcakes. They're $4 each but they're huge, freshly baked, and incredible! The cake itself has a delicate crumb but dense enough to hold its shape without falling apart. The chocolate ones had a really great chocolate flavor while the vanilla were perfectly sweet and balanced. The frosting, swiss buttercream I believe, is incredible. Soft and sweet but not too much, it melts in your mouth. We got 2 snickerdoodle, my absolute favorite (white cake, cinnamon topping and cinnamon buttercream on top) 1 Yin and yang (chocolate cake, vanilla frosting) 1 coconut (white cake, coconut frosting) 1 strawberry shortcake (white cake, strawberry preserve, and strawberry whipped frosting) And 1 peppermint (chocolate cake, peppermint frosting) All of them were really good and if I'm ever in the area I'll definitely look them up and go again! read more

In terms of looks, they are beautifully decorated cupcakes. I was impressed by the cupcake wrapper .. really sets their cakes apart from other places. However, when my sweet-tooth havin ass throws away a half-eaten cupcake, something ain't right...I didn't even like the frosting, it tasted like plain, whipped butter and had very little flavor. It was around 5pm, I was on my way to take my boyfriend to work when this bright pink truck caught my eye. I dropped the boyfriend off then made a furious looking u-turn which made my ponytail whip crazily on my head. When I got to the truck, there was a small selection of cupcakes and cookies out. The friendly woman that was helping me said she also had a Matcha green tea cupcake. I looked at her hungrily and said, "I'll take one please. THE UGLY: Yesterday I paid $5 for the worst cupcake I've ever eaten in my life! Watch out for the carrot cake. It was more like a lightly sweetened carrot muffin studded with raisins and topped with foamy whipped butter. What makes it worse is that their normal cupcakes are $4, but for some reason they decided to charge a dollar more for this mess. THE BAD: The German Chocolate was a huge disappointment. The signature caramel, pecan frosting was a flavorless goo. While eating I paused a couple of times to look at it to double check that there were pecans and coconut in it. I ended up adding more of my own fresh pecans to the top. The cake had a chocolate filling, which was messy overkilll inside a chocolate cake. THE GOOD: On the Plain Jane the Swiss meringue buttercream is perfect. The cake was light and fluffy. It is truly a classic cupcake. That's what earns the star. Pros: Nice people, cute presentation. $4 each, which is reasonable when you see the size. Cons: I will preface this with I own my OWN cupcake shop in SF, so I'm picky with other cupcakes - I still love to try them. I brought my enormous luv'n lemon cupcake home, and got a plate out to enjoy it. Took it out of the container - and it looked gorgeous. That's when my delight stopped. I took the paper off the cupcake, and went to pick it up to take a bite - the bottom half of the cupcake stuck in the wrapper, so I had lemon curd dripping out of the top half. The frosting was buttery, creamy, and not particularly flavorful, so I swiped it off the top - to be trashed. I finished the bottom half - not one to waste a cupcake - but it was dry cake (my guess it was overbaked, since it stuck to the wrapper). I'm really glad it had the lemon curd filling - it's the only way I was able to get it down. I had to have a glass of milk to wash it down with. Will not be back. :( read more

Their cupcakes are DELICIOUS! They are WAY better than the other cupcake truck (Cupkate's) that stops in Oakland. My favorite is by far the Lemon Zest. Their cake isn't too dense, and they have just the right amount of frosting. Definitely worth a stop if you see them. Boyfriend brought me home a red velvet cupcake today - the truck was parked outside of the Powell office building off the freeway. It's Sprinkles priced at $3.50. Sprinkles looking with a cube little red heart candy on top. Sprinkles tasting cream cheese frosting. Very fluffy and moist cake but not quite as rich and delicious as Sprinkles. I wish I could give this place 3.5 stars - it's definitely not a "waste of money" - it IS good, but just missing that extra UMPH to put it at Sprinkles and 4 star quality. This is an update to my previous review. We hired Sweet Treat Stop to cater the dessert for our wedding and we are so happy we did! Audrey was easy to work with, very accommodating (we had 4 flavors plus gluten free and a 6" round cake) and the set up exceeded our expectations. It was a great alternative to some of the (ridiculously) priced wedding cakes out there, everyone raved about the flavors, and one of her employees came to pick up the cake stand at the end of the evening which was very sweet of him to do so! I absolutely get joy out of eating quaint little cupcakes and was excited to try one from this truck when it was in my hood. At any given moment, any one cupcake should represent the quality of the work they produce. And maybe I got the "ehh" not too impressive one of the bunch because that's exactly how I felt. It was mediocre at best! I tried the Lemon lavender one and I could not taste or even smell the lavender. The cake was fluffy n flaky which I dont like. I expect my cupcake to at least not fall apart when I cut it in half. The filling was a creamy lemon filling you would find at a donut shop. So at $4 a cupcake and slow / not so friendly service, I'd say it's not worth the money - though the packaging is cute. I've most definitely had better at a handful of places in the bay! I love the cupcakes. So far, every single cupcake has been awesome. The best the plain Jane. Never have I had a vanilla cupcake soooooo good. I don't like chocolate so the salted carmel was too sweet. I won't get that again. Overall moist, huge, tasty, love the topping. The lady executive chef wasn't very plesant looking. Oh my! My new favorite cupcake stop! Sweet treats not only serve a unique style of cupcakes, they take card with the high tech iPhone! It was pretty cool signing off a iphone. I wasn't super hungry so I went for the strawberry short cake cupcake. It was delicious!!! The cake was light and fluffy and the icing was light and not too sweet. Definitely easy on the eyes, tasty in the mouth and content in the heart. :) I hope they have a twitter account so I can hunt them down! Their portions are much bigger than cup skates! My boyfriend and I tried the lemon and chocolate personal cakes (cupcakes). They were both amazing! Definitely exceeded expectations on all accounts. The cake was fluffy, rich but still light, not to sweet. The frosting was also not to sweet and definitely added to the cupcake. I usually scrape off the frosting, but not this time. Needless to say we ate both cupcakes and wished we had bought more. Will definitely be back here soon. I wish they had another food truck so they weren't so far from our house. I've seen this cupcake truck a few times but never had time to stop. Well, finally I had time to stop and check out what they had! It's mostly cupcakes and truffles. The service was Okay, not terrific but certainly not terrible. The person helping me was pleasant enough but wasn't really helpful when I asked him for recommendations. I settled on a salted Caramel Cupcake. The cupcake gets an A for presentation...it was so pretty! It was a bit expensive ($4) but huge, so I felt...eh, why not? They must be yummy. Weeellll...I got home and excitedly got myself a piece of it. First off, they didn't put it in the box very well and ALL of the caramel on top stuck to the lid as I opened it. Secondly, the taste gets a D....not the worst cupcake I've ever tasted but close to it. It was incredibly dry and tasted at least a day old. I was disappointed with my cupcake and will probably toss the rest....just not worth wasting the indulgence. :( read more

This pink truck parks near my job every week on the same day and I have enjoyed their cupcakes on more than one occasion. If I'm not mistaken, I've purchased a box of cupcakes (4) and it was $16.00 Well obviously, the price has changed since then. On today's encounter, I ordered one cupcake, and then immediately thought about bringing some home for my kids. While considering the kids, the gentleman preparing the cupcake gave me the total of $5. When I asked the price of the box instead of simply stating the box was $20, the gentleman replied in a nasty, catty tone that "well 4 x 5 = 20 so $20". I'm very big on customer service. His response was uncalled for and I was totally taken back. He should have simply stated that a box was $20 instead of having a rude response. Because he had already prepared the cupcake, I went forth with my purchase and told him "of course I know what 4 x 5 is" I honestly felt dumb paying for the cupcake and wish that I did not and when I walked away I saw one of my co workers headed there. I let her know he was extremely rude and that she shouldn't spend her money as I just had. I gave her the cupcake I had just bought because at this point I didn't want it any more. I hope that in the future the gentleman will not be so catty and rude with his responses, I may be a young, black woman but that does not mean I am illiterate or need math lessons. Decided to stop by on a whim....its been calling my name every day on my ride home from work. Soooo glad I did! I brought home a chocolate explosion and peanut butter cup cupcakes. They were perfectly moist and the frosting was not overly sweet but bursting with intense flavor. The 2 bakers inside the truck were pleasant and very helpful making my selection.
