I was originally introduced to the chain while doing an internship in Washington DC, and decided to give this place a try again while walking past the restaurant during a stroll around the area. My go to is the Harvest Bowl; the texture of the apple chunks add a satisfying textural crunch to the meal. Definitely a spot that I have visited on several occastions, the interior space is re-open again (was closed during the pandemic). I did recently go this past week and the size of the bowl is considerably smaller (maybe like 25%); I was informed that less content is being provided because of issues with their supply chain. The cheese was also not broken up and not distributed throughout the bowl, a large glob was just tossed on top of the greens... As it was my first time, I forgot that you can only order via the app, so had to wait outside for 20ish minutes before my order was ready. Ended up getting the Miso Salmon grain bowl. I ordered the green goddess salad. I submitted my order at 12:22pm. I got an eta of 12:45pm. I get there at 12:47pm it says it's still being prepared. It is really busy and people are coming in and asking where are there orders. It is 1:05pm now I ask where is my order. The gentleman I asked is looking around when another guys says I'm looking my order so now he looks for the other guys order. He finds his order and hands it to him. He comes back to me cannot find my order but finds my receipt. He starts making my order and asks what's inside a germ goddess. I can't remember every ingredient but I'm sure there isn't tomatoes and he gives me too much of it. I try to understand that it was a very busy time but to be so late on my order and screw that up and barely gave me anything else but made sure I got too much tomatoes even though this isn't in the order was very disappointing. He should have asked another staff if he wasn't sure how to make it. Also if you see many customers waiting around for their order the staff might want to ask people that they seen sitting there for half an hour if they can help them. Because there's only a few people getting in line to order in the store. There were about 80% of people waiting for their online orders. My lunch is only 30 mins and I spent that whole time waiting on my order and then some. Just please try to improve the customer service. read more

Perhaps they should hire Annie Lennox to sing... "sweetgreens are made of this...who am I to disagree?" Man, they should hire me for their marketing. Anyhow, I was familiar with sweetgreen from the SoMa location in the city but had yet to try it at this Berkeley corner spot. Probably because there are so many build-a-bowl eateries in the vicinity or maybe because this space will always be Oscar's to me, the greasiest burger grill in town. Well, I still haven't made it in there as we are all still in lockdown, but I found it on Grubhub for delivery one particularly lazy evening. Jamie W. decided on the $13.25 Buffalo Chicken Bowl. I know I'm going to sound like a total snob when I say this but if I'm paying $14 for a salad, I expect my kale to be more massaged or at least for thicker stems to be thrown out. The kale in my salad totally threw off the texture for me (I got the harvest bowl). Secondly, if they are going to mix my salad, why not mix it well? Why am I paying $14 to find a huge clump of rice pilaf at the bottom, and then eat basically all the cheese in another bite, and discover only one part of my salad to have dressing? I rather that they just put everything into little sections and I mix it myself than fake-mixing my salad for me. The salad in and of itself was not bad though I felt that it was a little dry and heavy with the carbs and could have used more veggies (since the kale was :|) and maybe I should have added more vinaigrette to satisfy the acidic element that it lacked (maybe not enough cheese or sour apple since apple was v sweet). A fresh and healthy salad spot! It was a bit hard to find parking, but they do have a tiny parking lot right behind the store. Unfortunately their dine-in area was close when I visited (4:30pm), so we could only do the take out option. They do not take cash and you can only order through their app! I ordered the fish taco bowl, which had arugula as the base. I was not a fan of arugula before I tried this salad. They also have a custom option, so you can build your own salad. Boy what a long day. Alarm went off at 6 am managed to haul my carcass out of bed by 6:32 am. Yelled at the kids to hurry up and managed to get myself dressed in clothes that had minimal wrinkles. Drive thru to grab the kids a quick breakfast on the go, fought off the horde of parents running late for work trying to drop their kids off at school, made it to the Bart train just in the nick of time for my train to SF. Quitting time!!! Let's do it again only in reverse. As I rushed to Bart got a text from the kids they were grabbing dinner with friends and going to the basketball game. What's dad supposed to eat. I'm not going to cook for just me. Certainly not hitting the drive thru. Sweet Greens is only a few blocks from Downtown Berkeley Bart, healthy and yummy and on my way home. The staff there are always happy to serve you and seem to enjoy their job. Order online and the food has always been ready at the time specified. Fresh, flavorful, and did I say healthy. I got the Warm Bowl with a small but satisfying piece of trout and side of Cashew Pesto Sweet Potatoes (SO GOOD). Now I'm full, satisfied, and not bloated. I've noticed the portion size is now about 1/2 of what it used to be, for the same price. I know we're all still dealing with sticker shock from inflation, but this is ridiculous. I ordered a bowl and got a small handful of chopped kale with some veggies, a little scoops of rice, and dressing - little more than a side salad, for $16. That's pushing it, even for the Bay Area. I've read that this is a "supply chain issue", which doesn't make much sense. Are they importing salad greens from far-flung places? There's no kale shortage at the supermarket. And regardless, shouldn't the price reflect the dramatically smaller portion size? I ordered the Super Green Goddess with chicken add-on. The veggie ingredients were okay but the green goddess ranch dressing was SO SALTY!! It made the salad inedible. It had to be a bad batch of dressing because there's no way they make the green goddess dressing this salty all the time. I forced myself to have a few bites but then gave up. My tongue felt raw from all the salt. It was so bad. I tried calling the restaurant to speak to a manager before posting this terrible 1-star review but they didn't pick up. Used to really love sweetgreen and would always order the chicken pesto parm. I feel like the quality has gone a bit down, especially considering that the "spicy broccoli" in this salad was 90% thick broccoli stems. Not sure about other locations, but at this location you can only order through the app. This made things a bit difficult because the app wasn't working for me and gave me an error every time I tried to add an item, so had to install it on my fiancés phone and go through the whole process again. When you first come in here, you'll probably think that the prices are way too high for just salad, but the salads here are delicious and completely worth the price. This is a great place to go to if you want a quick and healthy lunch or dinner. I got the kale Caesar salad and it was surprisingly good. Usually, I wouldn't get such a healthy sounding item, but since I was dieting and the kale Caesar only had 420 calories, I decided to get it. The romaine lettuce was super crisp and fresh and the kale added a nice light bitterness and earthiness. The parmesan crisps and shaved parmesan gave the salad a nice richness. The chicken was tender and meaty. The tomatoes and lime added a light acidity. And the dressing was super flavorful and brought everything together. I'm not usually a salad person, and I generally like my vegetables cooked rather than raw. But the salad here is so good, I didn't care that it was salad. Took 45min to get my salads, I ordered it with the steelhead and when I got back there was only chicken as the protein, I'm a vegetarian and so I took it back and politely asked them to remake it, they took the salad and simply took the chicken off and replaced it with the steel head, which is very unsanitary and is actually a health code violation, I was particularly upset because I was explicitly took them I'm a vegetarian. It was already and hour and I was hungry so I just decided to take the salad and eat it anyway... big mistake, the fish was very dry and tasted old, the next few hours I got food poisoning..... !!! I still really like sweetgreen salads and think they have good customer service, but my latest experiences have been poor. I read on the news and hear on podcasts about how they're pivoting to become distribution kitchens, but I would say their distribution is quite lacking. Example 1: twice in the past month when I've attempted to get delivery, the app says delivery is unavailable. I know they deliver to my address, so maybe it's an unavailability of drivers (thru their partner Uber Eats). I always momentarily contemplate ordering SG on Doordash but then decide I don't want to pay the price premium. Example 2: the one time I managed to get delivery, they were 1 hour late and totally botched my salad (cauliflower rice instead of quinoa, left out my dressing, skimped on toppings). I complained and got a refund + a $20 credit, but I haven't been able to use the credit because of the aforementioned lack of delivery. It used to be that my main complaint was they made no effort to keep their tiny parking lot from filling with long-time parking non-customers. But no; this place is getting worse and worse. I came in to pick up an order that should be ready. It was ready 20 min past the estimated time. When I walked in, one person was working on salads, one in the back, and six half-done salads were lined up on the counter waiting to be finished. Turns out the person in the back (prepping ingredients, I think) was the one to come out and finish all those waiting salads. There were eight people waiting around for their orders. Our boss bought us lunch from here on our visit to the office and I see why he gets it everyday! Although we could've picked another restaurant the next day we were in, I wanted sweet greens again because it was THAT GOOD!
