Went to Shake Shack for lunch. I had the Smoky Classic BBQ Burger, Single an order of Mac & Cheese and a Fifty/Fifty Lemonade. For my order the total was $24.22 Food was good. The service and dining room was good, clean and attentive.

$24.22 Shack Burger with bacon add and vanilla shake: Good, very good even but the price gets close to some local restaurants putting out excellent burgers that reach next level.

tldr, ok I read the *ONLY* one-star review and I feel it was a bit harsh. **PROTIP** Be wary of how many reviews people write, it could be they had a bad day and shake shack was an easy target on their path of destruction. And the opposite is also true, that if it's 5 stars and the person wrote one or two reviews, it could've been planted by the establishment (back in college my boss at a tutoring business asked me to write fake positive reviews, before I understood what yelp was). I DIGRESS. I would say for the first week of opening (they opened on 4/28), they WORKED. I went at around 9:30-10pm (they close at 11pm, mind you). It was packed... not an empty indoor table in sight. People in the kitchen were buzzing with orders. Like busy bees, the workers were hard at work filling people's orders an hour before close. There was hardly anyone available to take my order at the register. There are kiosks in front of the register where people can order without a cashier but when I tried to enter my promo code and got denied, I sought the assistance of a nearby fry-master. This guy was cool, calm, collected and helpful. He told me I had to order with a cashier to get the free Shackburger (this month's deal for National Hamburger Month). What I ordered: - new BBQ boneless baby back rib burger (a lot of b's lols) - mac and cheese - shackburger (free 99) I really loved the rib burger! I would get that again. Ya it didn't look pretty at all. But it was UGLY DELICIOUS. As for the mac and cheese, it was extra cheesy, make sure to bring your lactaid if you're lactose intolerant. I like it slightly more than the one at Chick-Fil-a but I'd have to try them side by side to do more of a thorough comparison. I think you also need to eat it right away because the breadcrumbs get a bit soggy. Other than that, it was a good amount of cheesiness. I loved the shackburger ofc but maybe also more because it was free. I hate/love it's walking distance from my apt. grateful for the options... not good for my wallet tho. oh well. tis life.

When I'm in Berkeley, I like trying different places, it feels like a little day trip to eat out. I heard about the new Shake Shack opening near Shattuck, and since my friend (who lives in Berkeley) had never tried it, we decided to check it out. The grand opening was a few days ago, so it still felt new. I've had Shake Shack before in New York and San Francisco. We ordered two ShackBurgers ($8.29 each) and one fries ($4.99). I also had an email promotion for a free ShackBurger (National Burger Month), so the total came out to $14.64 for two burgers and fries, about $7.32 per person, which is a good deal. The ShackBurger was just okay, but the fries were very hot and really good. I liked dipping them in the Shake Shack sauce. After ordering, they gave us a number, and the food was brought to our table. There were a lot of employees working both in the kitchen and at the counter, and a couple of staff were walking around the dining area checking on tables. The place looked clean, and there were lots of UC Berkeley students dining in or picking up to-go orders. If I'm in Berkeley and in a hurry, I would come back again.

The burgers were awful, but what can you expect, it's the first day and they were getting slammed. But maybe shake shack just isn't that good anymore. Props to the workers! Give everyone a raise. Great job keeping it organized and having the line moving fast. Our table was cleaned instantly. Shoutout to Raleigh/Riley (I think that's his name) for the phenomenal customer service and coming in clutch with the sauces.

Coupon that got me to come in. I left it on the table. Another person may have better success with using it. QR Code on the back side.

It's very frustrating when someone is outside handing out coupons to promote a new restaurant in the area, and you take time out of your day to go give the place a try. I walked over for lunch and was initially greeted with a warm smile, and the restaurant itself was clean -- that's what earned the two stars. Unfortunately, the experience quickly went downhill. The cashier looked at the coupon as if it were some form of alien currency and acted like he had never seen one before. He then ran around the restaurant searching for a manager to figure out how to accept it. By the time he returned, I had already said I would just pay for my food. The manager, who was standing behind the team member shaking fries, eventually came over and proceeded to read the coupon to me twice, as if I was the one having trouble understanding it. At that point, I had already stated three separate times that I would simply pay for my meal instead of continuing the awkward process of trying to use the coupon that brought me into the restaurant in the first place. So yes, the coupon succeeded in getting someone through the door, but the overall experience did not encourage me to return. As for the food, it was lackluster and definitely not what I would expect from a $20 meal. Once the service missed the mark, the rest of the experience went downhill fast. I may try another location while traveling in the future, but this visit was far from what I expected. Very disappointed.

It came with a side of coleslaw (3.5 Stars) and spiced honey (3 Stars). They fried a whole breast, it was so large that it over flowed the toasted brioche bun. The only thinking that made it spicy was the homemade spicy mayo, so it wasn't that spicy. I noticed on the menu they have sauces, like Nashville and buffalo. I think next time I'll try one of those sauces to kick up the heat. The cheese I add was not needed, I should have left off. The Fries (4 stars) were coated with potato flour and seasoning, which made a great crispy crust, served hot. Mac N' Cheese (4 Stars $6.49) I ordered the small 8oz, it was corkscrew pasta covered with a cheese sauce that was awesome with some Cajun spices, a like dirt Mac and some extra cheese on top. Until next time...

The burger was fresh and flavorful--you can taste the quality in every bite. The onion rings were on point too: crispy, not greasy, perfectly cooked. Dipping them into the habanero mayo gave it just the right kick. Definitely recommend that combo. The staff was friendly and kept things cool even though there were only two or three people running the place. The spot itself is small, just a few tables and chairs, with a little bit of Latin music playing in the background, which gave it a nice touch. When I first got there, it wasn't too busy, but by the time I finished, it was filling up. Walked around the block to stretch out, came back 15 minutes later, and the place was packed. What's also impressive is that their fried chicken sandwich was voted one of Yelp's Top 50 Fried Chicken Sandwiches in California, ranking #33 in the state. That's what I'm definitely trying next time. Final verdict: Great burger, great onion rings, friendly service, and a spot worth checking out if you're around University Ave in Berkeley. Two thumbs up from me.

I love that you can choose the doneness of the patty. I went with medium, and it came out perfectly cooked. The bun was soft, buttery, and rich without feeling too greasy, and every ingredient seemed intentional and added something distinct to the burger. It is a very large burger, though, so be prepared for it to get a little messy. There is a restroom where you can wash your hands, but it requires a key, so bringing hand sanitizer or wet wipes may be helpful. Overall, the burgers are definitely on the pricier side, but I thought the quality justified it. I'd happily come back again.

What I don't understand is why I'm charged an additional $2.50 for the lettuce wrap when I'm not even getting the bun. If you're taking something away, what's the justification for adding an extra charge? I could understand a modest upcharge, but $2.50 for a few leaves of lettuce is hard to justify. I can buy an entire head of lettuce for about that price. What bothered me even more was that no one mentioned the charge when I placed my order. It wasn't until I picked up my food and saw the receipt that I realized I had been charged extra. Customers deserve to know about additional charges before they order, not after the fact. When I politely asked why there was a $2.50 charge, the employee simply looked at me and said, "I don't know." There was no explanation, no offer to ask someone else, and no attempt to address a perfectly reasonable question. That level of customer service was just as disappointing as the surprise charge. The burger was excellent, but this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. At this point, I don't plan on coming back. Or maybe I'll just bring my own lettuce next time. Better yet, just give me the burger without the bun, and I'll wrap the damn thing myself when I get home.

You order at a computer screen at the front, but employees are there to help you if you need assistance. It was easy to order our food. Served with ranch, and lots of other sauce options. We are not soda people really, so we drink water usually. Two burgers and two fries was $25.00 which isn't bad for downtown, freshly made food. This is a great option for campus.

One of our coworkers recommended Gather, a large, farm-to-table restaurant, so five of us ventured here for a business dinner. The food and service were definitely 5 stars. Great laid back vibe. We came on a Tuesday night and yet the restaurant eventually got busier through the night. My favorite dishes were: Yellowtail Sashimi and Corn Riblets are both great appetizers and full of flavor. We should have double ordered to split among five. The half roasted chicken had crispy skin and was fairly well seasoned and moist. I don't indulge in desserts as much these days but if split a few desserts among five people you get 1/5 the calories, LOL! I recommend the warm bread pudding, pecan sundae, and salted chocolate chip cookies. In case street parking is difficult (it often is in Berkeley!), the restaurant is located right next to Oxford Garage which has a low flat fee for weeknights.

For our drinks, I had the Moonlight Blossom, my aunt had a glass of red wine, and my mom had a cucumber mint spritzer (mocktail as she was the DD). The mussels themselves were tasty and appreciated that they were able to leave out the chorizo. However, I wish that they brought a spoon and there was more broth. I tried some of my mom's veggie burger and the red color from the beets made it stand out from the usual veggie burger. The fries tasted homemade. I had a slice of the pizza and while I like the ingredients themselves, the combination just didn't do it for me. The crust was good though! We also shared a green goddess salad, which was tasty. The desserts looked amazing but we had no room! Service was friendly and our waitress made good recommendations. Can park on the side streets or the garage. Restaurant was not noisy. Upon our arrival, we were greeted and given the option to dine inside or on the covered patio. Although it was beginning to rain, we opted for the outdoor seating for the ambience. The fire pit, heated lamps, and the umbrellas really set the tone for a relaxing dining experience. The boys ordered a plain hamburger with curly fries, chicken tenders with skinny fries, and Oreo milkshakes. I decided on the specialty western burger and a Turkish coffee. I was assured the kids' fries would be plentiful, so there wasn't a need to order à la carte. The food was delicious and flavorful with great portion sizes. For the appetizers, we got the caprese salad ($19), cheesy garlic bread ($14), chicken wings ($18), and BBQ pork riblets ($18). The caprese salad was one of my favorites. The spring mix was super fresh, and even though I'm not the biggest cheese fan, I really liked the fresh mozzarella. The vinaigrette had the perfect balance of sweet and tangy flavors, making this a great spring or summer salad. The BBQ pork riblets and chicken wings were both a little dry. I liked the seasoning on the riblets, while the chicken wings were a bit lighter in flavor. The cheesy garlic bread was, as expected, super cheesy! I didn't realize the roasted garlic was served on the side, and personally wasn't the biggest fan of its flavor, but the focaccia itself had a great texture. We also shared the Aries ($22), Mercury ($21), and Cassiopeia ($25) pizzas. The Aries was a classic pepperoni pizza with a nice thin crust, and the Mercury was a margherita pizza. I liked the fresh tomatoes, although I wish there had been more basil. The Cassiopeia was my favorite of the three, and I can definitely see why it's so popular. The BBQ sauce was super flavorful and paired really well with the chicken and onions.
