Went to Shake Shack for lunch. I had the Smoky Classic BBQ Burger, Single an order of Mac & Cheese and a Fifty/Fifty Lemonade. For my order the total was $24.22 Food was good. The service and dining room was good, clean and attentive.

$24.22 Shack Burger with bacon add and vanilla shake: Good, very good even but the price gets close to some local restaurants putting out excellent burgers that reach next level.

tldr, ok I read the *ONLY* one-star review and I feel it was a bit harsh. **PROTIP** Be wary of how many reviews people write, it could be they had a bad day and shake shack was an easy target on their path of destruction. And the opposite is also true, that if it's 5 stars and the person wrote one or two reviews, it could've been planted by the establishment (back in college my boss at a tutoring business asked me to write fake positive reviews, before I understood what yelp was). I DIGRESS. I would say for the first week of opening (they opened on 4/28), they WORKED. I went at around 9:30-10pm (they close at 11pm, mind you). It was packed... not an empty indoor table in sight. People in the kitchen were buzzing with orders. Like busy bees, the workers were hard at work filling people's orders an hour before close. There was hardly anyone available to take my order at the register. There are kiosks in front of the register where people can order without a cashier but when I tried to enter my promo code and got denied, I sought the assistance of a nearby fry-master. This guy was cool, calm, collected and helpful. He told me I had to order with a cashier to get the free Shackburger (this month's deal for National Hamburger Month). What I ordered: - new BBQ boneless baby back rib burger (a lot of b's lols) - mac and cheese - shackburger (free 99) I really loved the rib burger! I would get that again. Ya it didn't look pretty at all. But it was UGLY DELICIOUS. As for the mac and cheese, it was extra cheesy, make sure to bring your lactaid if you're lactose intolerant. I like it slightly more than the one at Chick-Fil-a but I'd have to try them side by side to do more of a thorough comparison. I think you also need to eat it right away because the breadcrumbs get a bit soggy. Other than that, it was a good amount of cheesiness. I loved the shackburger ofc but maybe also more because it was free. I hate/love it's walking distance from my apt. grateful for the options... not good for my wallet tho. oh well. tis life.

When I'm in Berkeley, I like trying different places, it feels like a little day trip to eat out. I heard about the new Shake Shack opening near Shattuck, and since my friend (who lives in Berkeley) had never tried it, we decided to check it out. The grand opening was a few days ago, so it still felt new. I've had Shake Shack before in New York and San Francisco. We ordered two ShackBurgers ($8.29 each) and one fries ($4.99). I also had an email promotion for a free ShackBurger (National Burger Month), so the total came out to $14.64 for two burgers and fries, about $7.32 per person, which is a good deal. The ShackBurger was just okay, but the fries were very hot and really good. I liked dipping them in the Shake Shack sauce. After ordering, they gave us a number, and the food was brought to our table. There were a lot of employees working both in the kitchen and at the counter, and a couple of staff were walking around the dining area checking on tables. The place looked clean, and there were lots of UC Berkeley students dining in or picking up to-go orders. If I'm in Berkeley and in a hurry, I would come back again.

The burgers were awful, but what can you expect, it's the first day and they were getting slammed. But maybe shake shack just isn't that good anymore. Props to the workers! Give everyone a raise. Great job keeping it organized and having the line moving fast. Our table was cleaned instantly. Shoutout to Raleigh/Riley (I think that's his name) for the phenomenal customer service and coming in clutch with the sauces.

Coupon that got me to come in. I left it on the table. Another person may have better success with using it. QR Code on the back side.

It's very frustrating when someone is outside handing out coupons to promote a new restaurant in the area, and you take time out of your day to go give the place a try. I walked over for lunch and was initially greeted with a warm smile, and the restaurant itself was clean -- that's what earned the two stars. Unfortunately, the experience quickly went downhill. The cashier looked at the coupon as if it were some form of alien currency and acted like he had never seen one before. He then ran around the restaurant searching for a manager to figure out how to accept it. By the time he returned, I had already said I would just pay for my food. The manager, who was standing behind the team member shaking fries, eventually came over and proceeded to read the coupon to me twice, as if I was the one having trouble understanding it. At that point, I had already stated three separate times that I would simply pay for my meal instead of continuing the awkward process of trying to use the coupon that brought me into the restaurant in the first place. So yes, the coupon succeeded in getting someone through the door, but the overall experience did not encourage me to return. As for the food, it was lackluster and definitely not what I would expect from a $20 meal. Once the service missed the mark, the rest of the experience went downhill fast. I may try another location while traveling in the future, but this visit was far from what I expected. Very disappointed.

I love that you can choose the doneness of the patty. I went with medium, and it came out perfectly cooked. The bun was soft, buttery, and rich without feeling too greasy, and every ingredient seemed intentional and added something distinct to the burger. It is a very large burger, though, so be prepared for it to get a little messy. There is a restroom where you can wash your hands, but it requires a key, so bringing hand sanitizer or wet wipes may be helpful. Overall, the burgers are definitely on the pricier side, but I thought the quality justified it. I'd happily come back again.

What I don't understand is why I'm charged an additional $2.50 for the lettuce wrap when I'm not even getting the bun. If you're taking something away, what's the justification for adding an extra charge? I could understand a modest upcharge, but $2.50 for a few leaves of lettuce is hard to justify. I can buy an entire head of lettuce for about that price. What bothered me even more was that no one mentioned the charge when I placed my order. It wasn't until I picked up my food and saw the receipt that I realized I had been charged extra. Customers deserve to know about additional charges before they order, not after the fact. When I politely asked why there was a $2.50 charge, the employee simply looked at me and said, "I don't know." There was no explanation, no offer to ask someone else, and no attempt to address a perfectly reasonable question. That level of customer service was just as disappointing as the surprise charge. The burger was excellent, but this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. At this point, I don't plan on coming back. Or maybe I'll just bring my own lettuce next time. Better yet, just give me the burger without the bun, and I'll wrap the damn thing myself when I get home.

I highly recommend their milkshakes. I went mango and the guy was nice enough to tell me and get me extra mango, free of charge because otherwise it's just a mild mango. Thank you for that suggestion. Also quick tip, if you are lactose intolerant, get their non dairy option and it will taste the same as a regular milkshake. It's really good. The parking lot is clean in a way that feels intentional, as if someone cared enough to reset the space overnight. The sun reflects off the windows without accusation. You pull in and feel, briefly, that things might be in order. Inside, the employees smile, and not the trained, defensive smile of obligation, but the open kind that risks sincerity. Juanita greets me as though my arrival matters, asks how my morning is going so far, and waits for the answer. This alone feels almost excessive. Her delight is unguarded, and in it there is a quiet suggestion that work does not have to erase the person doing it. Conversation flows easily, a few seconds of shared presence that asks for nothing more than attention. The space itself hums with brightness. Not sterile, not overproduced, but clean and awake. Tables wiped, floors swept, the air carrying the faint promise of coffee and something savory. It feels like a place prepared for people, not merely for transactions. In a small way, this matters. Then there is the steak egg and cheese bagel sandwich, which deserves more reverence than it usually receives. It arrives warm, substantial, almost improbably generous. The bagel is soft but grounded, the steak rich without being aggressive, the egg folded neatly like a quiet affirmation. Melted cheese binds everything together with a patience that feels practiced. Eating it is not hurried. It invites attention. It rewards it. There is something quietly Eucharistic about the act, though no one announces it as such. Ordinary food, taken seriously, becomes more than fuel. It becomes a moment of gratitude disguised as breakfast. You sit, you eat, you are sustained. Nothing mystical is forced upon you, yet something is given. The sandwich does not transcend its ingredients, but it gathers them into something whole. This McDonald's does not pretend to be salvation. It offers something smaller and more attainable: a morning that works. A place where light fills the room, where people speak kindly, where food tastes like care rather than compromise. You leave unburdened, not because your problems have vanished, but because for a short while the world did not resist you. Driving away, the day feels possible. Not perfect. Possible. And sometimes that is more than enough.

When I entered, there was a table of three gentlemen sitting there enjoying their selections. I checked in with them and got suggestions on what I should order. They made a recommendation, but I chose something totally different. I ordered the wings and garlic noodles with a side of brussels sprouts. This place is known for their fried chicken because it's so extra crunchy. They definitely did deliver on the crunch and the flavor. The garlic noodles were very garlic, which is what I liked, and the brussels sprouts were sautéed in a honey glaze. I decided to enjoy my food inside the restaurant as opposed to sitting outside where they have two tables set up. The young lady that took my order was ever so sweet and kind. She was the only one I saw in the restaurant behind the counter, but there may have been others working further in the back. There was an error on my order and she was quick to correct the error with an apology and a smile. The portion size was decent. I ended up taking home leftovers.
