Sweetwater is located off the beaten road, tucked away by a gravel lot. Don't let its appearance fool you, the food is quite good. There aren't any vegeterian dishes, only meat. You have a choice of the main dishes, which are combinations of meat: beef, pork, turkey, and ham. You have side dishes that they call "Fixin's" and the Hillbilly Beans are just regular pork and beans (sort of like Bush's beans in a can). Lots of Soldiers from Ft. Leonard Wood were eating there, and they seem to be regulars, so that was a sign that it's a good place to eat. The seats in each of the booths seems beaten up and squashed though. read more

This was a quick decision to stop but it turned out to be a good one. It is a clean and inviting family friendly environment and the service was excellent. I had the 3 meat platter and, by far, the ribs were the best. They were among the best I have had. The sausage was very good and the pulled pork was good but not special. I love bbq. I love roadside dives. This was neither. I couldn't stomach to finish my food and threw it away. My favorite bbq is brisket; so I ordered a brisket sandwich, small fries, & extra 1/2 lb of brisket. The positive: portions are healthy and intended for large appetites. The negative: the food. The brisket was chipped beef (what canned tuna is to sushi grade tuna-chipped beef is to brisket). At the recommendation of my server, I ordered "without sauce". However, the brisket is cooked in sauce. The flavor of the meat and sauce is the opposite of delicious. The meat-even though cooked/slathered in sauce-was dry. The bun was good. The fries were greasy and raw--yes, even though the fries were sliced thin, the centers were raw. I would encourage you not to eat here and continue driving. Just passing through on a 2000-mile road trip. An employee at the nearby hotel where we are staying recommended this place. My wife and I each ordered a combo and shared bites to try lots of different meats. We agree that the turkey is absolutely the best!! I also enjoyed the smoked sausage. For sides, the green beans are just like gramma used to make!! Orders are taken and prepaid at a counter, then the customer picks up the order on a tray. Soft drinks are self-serve as well, and cold beer is available by the bottle back up at the ordering counter. We pulled in here after stopping to get gas. The place is simple and clean which is a plus to me. Got the 3 meat meal, brisket, ribs and spicy sausage. The brisket was good, the spicy sausage was excellent. The ribs were good but they choose not to remove the membrane. I know that is a preference thing but i don't care for it. Folk its Missouri Bbq not Memphis or Nasville or Even Kansas City Bbq and sure isnt Texas bbq they use a dry rub and serve sauce on side if requested, it's not pepper hot it is pretty good Bbq at a price that's not out of this world. I ordered the beef brisket and spicy sausage (two meat combo). I selected coleslaw and fries for the side order. The restaurant is cozy and appears to be family owned and operated. The service is a bit slow but nothing to complain about seeing only one person was preparing the food. The food itself was okay. The portion size was huge. The BBQ sauce was okay nothing special. The beef was scooped on top of two slices of white bread.... The coleslaw was okay and the fries are thin sliced wedges. I was not impressed with my meal which is why I use "okay" to describe the taste and flavor. I've had much better BBQ beef and sausage elsewhere. There was a constant line of people entering the establishment at the time which solidifies how popular the place is in the area. The location is up on a hill, going towards Rolla and the parking is somewhat weird but it's in an area where the parking isn't an issue but there is a big tree dead smack in the middle. The prices are reasonable and the staff were friendly but what I didn't like much is when the lady preparing my plate made jokingly comments about my name as she completed my order. That was very unprofessional and inappropriate. For that reason and for the food being mediocre, I will not be visiting this place again. read more

Got it and there is a big sign right in front so should be pretty easy. It's several minutes away from Ft. Leonardwod. I had the 3 choice combo which includes 2 sides. Choices of meat are pulled pork, sausage, turkey, ribs, chicken and brisket. The sides include green beans, fries, macaroni salad, baked beans and maybe a few other items. The sweet tea is the BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never had sweet tea before. I always thought sweet tea is tea with lots of sugar but this place is so good, I would of just ordered that and would of been content. The best part is that you can drink all you want and of course I got my fix. 7 cups to be exact, Thank you. Remember that I said I had the 3 combo. Well the price, $9.99. Say What? It was a mound of food. I'm known as a heavy hitter when it comes to food but let me tell you, I had to unbuckle couple of notches on my belt. I would not recommend dining at Sweetwater Bar-B-Que. When we got there at 6pm on a Friday night there was nobody else dining there. We went to the counter and the person there gave us a one page laminated menu and said to have a seat in the dining area and come back when we wanted to order. My girlfriend and I decided we would have the 3 meat special which came with 2 fixins/sides. We ordered and our food was served to us at our table after about 15 minutes. We chose the beef, ribs and spicy sausage. The dinner was served on a portion style styrofoam plate. The meats were served atop two slices of white bread. The beef might have been brisket but was chopped not sliced and had little to no smoked flavor and was dry and bland. Slathering it with their sweet but bland sauce didn't help much. There were two large St Louis style pork ribs which were fatty and tough. The sausage was cold and somewhat spicy. We chose the hillbilly beans and potato salad for the sides. The beans tasted like they were straight out of a Van De camp's can of pork and beans. The potato salad was ok but likely not house made but tasted like it was purchased at the local supermarket. Very disappointed. We will not be coming back here again. read more

The best barbeque in this state. It's worth making the drive for the melt-in-your mouth pulled pork. When I go to St. Louis I always stop on the way up to eat lunch and on the way back I eat there again and get more to take home and freeze, including grabbing bottles of their incredibly good sauce. read more

Been here plenty of times and it's always been a pretty good experience. I've tried a lot of the different menu items and they've all been tasty. Favorites are: pulled pork, catfish, and ribs. First, the sauce is like ketchup with a lot of brown sugar. The pulled pork and beef were like a really sweet manwich. I'm sorry, but the Mcrib has better flavor and more meat then the pork and beef. You can smell it from the highway!! We have been going to Sweetwater since they opened! My parents LOVE the catfish and my new fave item is their new buffalo wings...mmm good with the spicy BBQ! Came down here to pick up our daughter from the military and got the opportunity to try this place! Hubby had the "falling off the bone " ribs, which he enjoyed!
