If you're anything like me, you research the restaurants at your travel destination before much else. This place came so highly recommended, I had no choice but to pay them a visit. Pro tip: please check their facebook page for updated hours, contact information, and menu of the day. I stopped by to place a carry out order. The team was so welcoming and friendly. That perfect sincere hospitality you don't see too much anymore. The space is absolutely adorable and comfortable. When my order was ready, I was handed a bag that easily weighed five pounds! I went with the blackberry fried chicken. This is like nothing I've ever had. The chicken was super crispy like Korean fried chicken and just covered in a sweet sticky blackberry sauce. The chicken was well seasoned and juicy. Every single bite was perfect. I went with the macaroni and cheese and greens for my sides. Both came served in generous portions of deliciousness. The greens might be a little spicy if you don't like heat. My order came with two cornbread muffins. The meal was a very generous and a filling one. I also picked a slice of peach cobbler cheesecake from the dessert case. While tasty, I would have preferred one or the other. Both cheesecake and cobbler in one dessert was just a little too much for me. But delicious nonetheless. This truly is a hidden gem in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri!! We went to visit my daughter for family day and graduation from basic training and all of the drill sergeants raved about how this was the best soul food restaurant in town. They didn't lie. Not only was the food amazing, but the service was also impeccable. The waitress was so nice, and she gave us history on the restaurant and her family. There were pictures of her family on the walls, and they even had a tree branch with wooden portraits of family members (family tree). It was so cool!! The food was so good!! We had the chicken wings, greens, mac and cheese, yams, and catfish. The portion sizes were huge, so we had food to go. A person in our party had the red beans and rice and fried corn and she said the red beans and rice was some of the best she has ever had, and the sauce on the fried corn was good. The cook's husband came out and talked to us at the end of our meal and gave us some background on how he was also in the military, retired and is now working at the restaurant with his wife along with his government job. Everybody was just so nice and welcoming, and it definitely was a great experience. The prices for the food was very affordable considering the portion sizes. So now that I have eaten here a few times I really felt the need to update this review. The Good: The food is easily the best in town now that Nona's has closed!! The Bad: They are only open two days a week..Saturday and Sunday. Please don't go by the hours on Yelp as they are completely wrong. I would also advise to call ahead on Saturday/Sundays as sometimes they just decide they aren't opening. The service is horrendously slow.....enough said....its just slow.......one "waiter" services the entire restaurant with the "assistance" of what I can only assume is their son. Portions v. Price: You do get a lot of food so that is a plus, the problem is that its over priced. For the same amount of money you can go to Sybill's in St James, MO and enjoy fine dining at its best. I continue to eat here as the food is that good, I also get instantly angry with the thought of going here as I know the service is going to be terrible. Even ordering ahead doesn't work anymore as the time predicted for my food to be ready is typically off by about 20 mins.. The point to the review is..... please go here and eat, just have some expectation management. Set your expectations really low and then when the dust settles you will be blown away by your experience. With a little bit of work this restaurant could easily be the best in Missouri, but unfortunately we are no where close to that point yet!! read more

This was the best meal I've had in a long time. I got the blackberry fried chicken (they were out of the oxtails) and I'm VERY happy with that decision. It's a unique dish that I'd never seen before, with perfectly fried wings tossed in a delicious blackberry sauce. Fried okra and mac and cheese were my sides, and both were well-done. The mac didn't look like it was going to be great, but the flavors were amazing. I waited a very long time for my take out order two weeks ago and the owner came out and apologized for the long wait as she knows I am a regular customer and had me sit down to enjoy my banana pudding cake as she was getting ready to pack my to go order. That is the kind of service every restaurant should give and I give so much respect to her as she works extremely hard to run this restaurant and make her customers happy and satisfied. Her husband and son work incredibly hard as well like it's so sweet that her son helps out at the restaurant as I also grew up helping my mom run her business. My husband and I just moved to FLW. We found this family owned restaurant on military spouse page. A lot of people recommended it so we figured to try it out. One of the reasons why I love this place is because of the fact that it's family owned restaurant. It's great to have it in town due to being so far from family. At first I was hesitant on trying the blackberry fried chicken but it was surprisingly delicious! My husband enjoyed his fried ribs as well. We tried each other's food and man it's so good! Being a military family, we try food in lots of places and I always thought I would never go back to Missouri once I left. Well, Mrs. Honey's food is so good I follow them on Facebook for when I go back to Missouri! Not only is her food amazing, Mrs. Honey is a kind soul herself. When I was diagnosed with Celiac's disease, she taught herself gluten free cooking, bought a new fryer, and cooked me the best meal anyone ever has. Not to mention she made me my own cake! She and her family work in the restaurant and they all have jobs and other commitments that require the restaurant to be open part time. I will echo what everyone else has said. The food was amazing! We had the blackberry chicken (wings that is), grilled pork chops, mac n cheese, coleslaw, red beans and rice and grilled corn. We were unable to finish it all but everything was so good. The service was excellent and the atmosphere is absolutely adorable. The only negative is the unsure hours.
