There is a lifeguard station and bathroom. Beach goers ranged from locals to tourists, all friendly. I'm a little more experienced than a beginner so I wasn't looking for a full lesson. I wanted someone to paddle out with me and give me some guidance in the lineup. Sean quickly understood the assignment and made the session perfect. He also helped push my husband into some great waves while still giving me the support I wanted. We also did the photo package. Our photographer (also named Sean) got so many great shots. To top it off the woman owner gave me a hat for my birthday which I loved wearing for the rest of the trip. I see some negative comments about the photos on here and I just want to say I had a great experience with that. We did buy the album because the photos were pretty sick and it's our honeymoon. But if I didn't want to buy them it wouldn't have been a big deal as they didn't pressure us at all. In fact we approached the guy with the photos out of our own interest. They canceled our surf lesson 30 minutes before while we were on our way. We were understanding that things happen and tried to reschedule, but it never worked out. However, the issue is what followed. They assured me that I would receive a refund, but despite that promise, no refund was ever issued. After waiting and receiving no communication, I had no choice but to dispute the charge with my credit card company. To make matters worse, the surf company responded to the bank claiming that I did receive the lesson--which is completely untrue. I have since reached out to try to resolve what I initially hoped was just a misunderstanding, but I have received zero response. The lack of honesty and accountability is a terrible representation of Maui. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else, but judging from other reviews, it looks like it already has. What a shame.

Zack has great attitude, knows surfing AND new surfers, and got me the best results for my time. He guided us to the best spots to catch waves, gets you going into the wave, and sends you off cheering. When you inevitably fall, his feedback is on point. This beach is small and intimate and not exactly the best spot to go and have a swim, BUT it's a…read moregreat beach for the little ones. Because of the reef that protects the little cove from the north shore swell, the water is calm and eases onto the shore gently. The sand isn't like the fine white sand you find at most other beaches, but more of the bigger, stickier variety. Many shells and corals also line the shore. Take a walk and you'll get a good exfoliation ;) On our last visit a few turtles were out, resting on the shore. I watched in dismay as many people decided to sit/lay within close distance to them or walk closer to get a better look/photo. Please DO NOT go near the turtles. I get it, I still get happy when I see them out and about, but please leave them alone. They have a sign posted on a beach just for that reason. Aside from that, this beach is a nice, convenient spot to hangout and chill for a bit with our little guy where we can have peace of mind knowing a crazy wave won't come and pull him into the water. There are parking stalls available at the entrance of Mama's Fish House. Prepandemic, the stalls would often fill up easily. At the moment, parking should be easier to find. Just a note that there are many, many guests of the restaurant that stop by this beach as they wait to be seated. It got busier as we got closer to sunset hours. One person even tried to climb the coconut tree that was near us and fell down, almost hitting my husband. We started to feel a little unsafe as the crowds grew and many weren't wearing their mask so, we hele'd on out of there as a precaution. Enjoy & stay safe.
