Appointment for 1, no call no show. I call them at 1:30 ummm is anyone coming...haven't heard from you or seen anyone. Yes, sire my driver tried to call. Really he tried to call the same # you have on file? Right. He should be there shortly. I'm going to check with him, and I'll call you back shortly. 2 PM no call. I call them back. Umm sir yes he's on his way. Finally shows at 2:30 after a 1 PM appointment. 1.5 hours late. WOW is all I can say. This company is located in DC. They charge a $140 travel fee to travel from DC to metro DC, Howard County to be exact. There's a three hour minimum even when it doesn't take three hours. I wouldn't have gone with this company, but I waited to the last minute and my usual company from Baltimore was booked. I think the guys were expecting a tip, but ummm you were 1.5 hours late and were paid an extra $140 for an hours worth of work you didn't do, and you were paid $140 to drive 15 miles. You've already gotten your tip. What's with the service industry and these tips? Why is this passed down to the costumer to pay beyond the high price they've already paid for your services. Maybe companies should pay their employees what they should be paid? Will make sure I schedule my next move in time to get my regular company. We hired this company for a very straight forward move. Gus provided excellent customer service over the phone. He answered all of my questions, made himself available for follow up, and was very thorough in following through on the quoted price. The day of the move, the guys showed up late. However, they were very apologetic and were able to load the truck carefully in record timing. All of the guys were nice and respectful. They unloaded the truck and placed all of the furniture and boxes exactly to our instructions. There was no lolly gagging around. Despite the time issue, we had an excellent overall experience. I've moved 8 times in the last 10 years, and can honestly say that this company (particularly Ranga, Percy and Jose) were the best team I have ever moved with. I moved from Washington DC to Boston, Massachusetts, and they completed the entire thing in 13 hours. They loaded and unloaded faster than their estimate, and everything was handled with perfect detail and care. In addition, they were also extremely friendly, polite and considerate people. Their price also beat other companies by hundreds of dollars, and at the end of the move, they stayed committed to their estimate, not even increasing it a single dollar. Best possible experience. I wish I could give *six* stars. We had a small job for Swift & Gentle--moving furniture and boxes within our house--but they treated us with as much courtesy and professionalism as if we'd been a big job for them. The good experience started from the minute I called to schedule, with friendly and responsive service from Gus and Evans. They were able to fit us in their schedule on short notice even though we had this odd small job. The price was very reasonable and more than worth every darn penny. The day of the move, the movers showed up right on time and were friendly (not just neutral, but actually friendly). They had hustle and did the job really quickly, but they were extremely careful and didn't scratch or dent a single thing. Not even a tiny mark on the walls. The movers were also happily willing to move things around within the space--it wasn't a "we only touch it once" attitude. They helped my mom figure out where to put her furniture in the space and reposition it in her in-law suite. They even noticed that an existing rug was slightly askew and offered to reposition it to be square with the wall. We only recently moved into this house and we used a different moving company for that move. We're still in discussions with that other mover about how to repair all the damage they did to our furniture. I wish we had used Swift & Gentle last time, and we will absolutely use them for every single move we ever do and will recommend them to all our friends. I have relocated for the duration of the pandemic, and so I had to do a "remote move" where the company would come in, pack my belongings, and move them into storage, all while I was away at a different location. Needless to say, this was a very stressful situation, and it was handled by Swift & Gentle with the utmost professionalism and care. A rep for the company came and did a walk-through of the apartment and the items (I arranged with building management to let them in), and then, on the day of the move, I got photos documenting the apartment and the items before, during, and after the move. Gus and his team are professional, efficient and competitively priced. I got estimates from a number of companies for a major move within DC. Gus was flexible with the dates and price. They wrapped up every painting even though we didn't ask them to help pack and threw away some items for us which were nice pluses. Like in any major move, one or two items unfortunately broke. Gus responded immediately to our broken item and replaced the full item without any fuss. This is what I truly appreciated. Would recommend this team for small and large moves. read more

I used this company because of all the positive reviews, but I would not use them again. They arrived an hour late. They worked and packed the truck in a reasonable amount of time. It took them a very long time to unload- although I wasn't there the entire time it's difficult to judge. I can say, however, that and we were charged almost double the estimate. This was a very small move and I itemized everything so I feel that the estimate being so far off is indicative of a problem somewhere. Another concern I have is there are errors in billing that are yet to be resolved. They did not report the correct start time, over charged, didn't credit deposit, and charged for tape (even though the written estimate included supplies). I expect a moving comping to show up on time, be polite, and be honest in their billing. I gave two stars and they did the work and didn't break anything. There is a tv that did not work on arrival, but there was no visible damage so I don't think it's right to blame the movers for that. They only point I can agree with other positive reviews is that Gus was very polite on the phone when I made the initial appointment. I hope he will return my message and redress the billing errors. Maybe we were just unlucky- but based on my experience, I would not recommend this moving company. read more

Overall good experience. Manager was great coming by and getting us a quote on the same day we called. During the packing phase, they packed items well, but not the most efficiently. One whole box was used for a hat and two pairs of crocs. They emptied out my dresser drawers, but not my wife's. We had also requested recycled boxes, but the message must have been lost, as they arrived with new boxes. Management was great in not charging us for the price of the new boxes. During the big furniture move, they did a good job; however they didn't bring the right tools to disassemble one of our beds. This error added time and dollars to our move as they had to take the single bed downstairs, while still put together. They accomplished this by removing the bedroom door, and then reattaching it. When they finally got downstairs to the first level, someone arrived with the correct tool. They didn't disassemble tables as requested, but overall did a good job at getting us moved into our new place. We did like how they were accommodating with taking a broken piece of furniture to the transfer station. read more

Gus and team were beyond exceptional. I will use them again and highly recommend them to all. Price: I took the time to quote 4 different moving companies. Swift & Gentle had a lower cost per hour than their competitors for the move and provided an added person for that lower cost. There packing cost was $4/hr more but for that $4 I received 4 packers versus 3 (That saved a least an hour of time). As a bonus, Gus was present during packing and did a bit himself above and beyond the 4 packers. I have come to appreciate owners who are present and get their hands dirty. At the end, they came in significantly under the quoted price due to time saved from all the people working. Some companies do not charge for travel, Swift and gentle does. However, they were still less expensive. Timing: Gus and team showed a few minutes early for the pack and did not start the clock until the agreed upon time. For the move, they were on punctual and show at exactly 8AM. Quality of work: No damage. The team worked tirelessly to get everything packed and loaded and then unloaded at my destination. Everybody was respectful, polite and an absolute pleasure to work with. Challenges & Solutions: After unpacking we had quite a bit of packing paper and boxes. To my surprise and Swift and Gentle's credit Gus came by the week after and hauled everything away for us. He spent a good amount of time breaking down boxes and loading everything into his truck. That was one of the those ridiculously hot DC days and he worked nonstop until the task was complete. That truly is above and beyond and I cannot express my gratitude enough. Hands down the best moving experience one can hope for. Moving still sucks but Gus and team made it easier. read more

We used Swift and Gentle for our move from DC to VA. Gus and his team were great to work with. We had some issues in our building with a double booking of the freight elevator with other residents moving at the same time, but they worked around that and moved everything quickly and gently (no pun intended!). All of our furniture was wrapped and if we asked to wrap something that they normally wouldn't have wrapped, they were happy to do so. Friendly, personable and hard working. I called Swift and Gentle Movers the morning of my move when I realized it was a bit more work than just me and my mom could easily handle (I was moving mid-week, so all my friends were working and couldn't help). I spoke with Gus, told him the details of my move and he showed up 15 mins later. I was all packed, so Gus just took the lead in loading and unloading the truck. He was super efficient and got me out of one apartment and into anther in just a couple hours doing most of the work himself for a very fair price. i just recently relocated to DC and hired Swift and Gentle Movers to unpack my truck that I drove from Ohio. Because of traffic issues, we arrived to my new apartment at 5:15 pm and already cars were parked in the emergency moving zone. So, there was no where to easily park the truck. The employees quickly troubleshot the situation and had the truck parked and insisted that I not unload boxes but just point on where things should go. This was such a remarkable difference from the team I hired to load the truck in Ohio. I would recommend Swift and Gentle Movers to anyone. They were professional, polite and knew what they were doing and had my belongings in my apartment in 1.5 hours. They also repacked the truck to ensure that my belongings I was taking to storage would not shift on the ride over there. read more

Wow! I found my dream apartment.....a week before new years and needed to move in the day after the new years holiday. I called a few other highly rated movers from around town, but all of them were booked solid for the week and/or wanted to add a massive premium for the holiday week. To add an additional complication to this equation, I needed a mover that could store my belongings for a few days due to my apartment not being ready until after the holiday, despite needing to vacate my unit by the 31st. I called Swift & Gentle later in the evening, desperate at this point for a decent mover. I got on the phone and discussed my move with Gus, who coordinates everything. What a pleasant surprise! Gus is the consummate professional and assured me that everything would be taken care of, including storing my things! I called the day before Christmas Eve, and Swift & Gentle came the Monday afterwards in the afternoon. Their movers were kind, professional, and really went the extra mile to make sure that my things were wrapped appropriately for the move. They came with plenty of moving pads and supplies. There were 2 men, and they had everything wrapped and loaded from my studio apartment in under an hour and a half. Wow! (I have a lot of crap - awkwardly shaped crap- to move so this was a shock to me). Bringing my belongings back was equally as pleasant - everything was unloaded from the truck with the same care that went into moving it the first time around. All of my belongings were in perfect shape. The best part? The entire move was exactly what was quoted to me - not a cent more. I've heard horror stories with movers going way over the estimate, but it was refreshing to see that what I actually budgeted from the estimate was the exact cost after the move. I was skeptical about hiring movers because a) they are expensive and b) I have always moved my own things and c) I am incredibly cheap. However, taking time + personal resources into account, the cost of S&G movers (which is incredibly reasonable, FYI) was absolutely worth the expense. The only mild downside, as other reviewers had mentioned, was they were a little bit late/outside their scheduled window for moving. Nothing egregious - but if you are planning on using S&G, I would assume they are coming towards the end of the window you are given. However, they more than made up for this with their level of service. read more

I've used these guys a couple times now, both for moves within DC. They are super efficient, professional, and all around good guys. Both times they moved me, I just went around the corner to eat while they packed everything up, they were super quick (the first time I barely had time to come back from picking up food by the time they were finished unpacking everything). We called Swift and Gentle Movers in a panic when our original movers turned out to be awful. Gus (owner) was so pleasant and reassuring on the phone that we immediately knew we were in good hands. With such short notice he was able to arrange to come the very next morning with his team. He even brought a team of 5 (we were promised 3) to ensure we were able to move quickly with no extra charge! All of the men were friendly, competent, and hard-working. I cannot recommend this moving company enough. I was moving into a building with VERY strict hours for when you can move. They worked quickly and carefully to get my move done within the time limit, and were actually running (in the summer heat!) to and from the van to get it done. I wish I had stayed away from swift and gentle moving. While Gus is a nice guy and comes across really well before and during a move, things turn pretty sour when you have a problem. The team caused damage to my items when moving them into storage (items were basically just thrown in to complete the job quickly). When I called to discuss with Gus, at first he ignored me, then proceeded to tell me I must have damaged the items when they were in storage. He refused to allow me to file an insurance claim (which is against the law), admitting that he feared the increase in premiums and offered to come out of pocket directly to me. After no payment and three more emails, I never heard from him again. read more

1. My mother's antique cedar chest was damaged in the move this company did for me. Gus said he "Had a guy" who could fix it at no charge to me. Gus and I scheduled two different times for him to pick up the chest. The first time he did not show up, the second time he called and told me he didn't want to pick it up because it was raining. This told me he was not going to properly transport it to have it fixed. Additionally, he could never tell me how long it would take to have it fixed. After his second no-show, I emailed and called him to reschedule the pick up and he did not reply to emails and my call was blocked from his phone. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and said that I would have it fixed and wanted this company to reimburse me. Swift & Gentle Movers refused to accept my terms and did not ever reply to Better Business Bureau. I am considering Small Claims Court to pursue compensation for damages. 2. I was overcharged for the move and had to repeatedly request reimbursement before Gus finally reimbursed me. 3. A 40lb bag of cat litter was lost in the move - they finally reimbursed me for that after multiple requests. Other issues: the company was unresponsive after I paid my deposit and I had to follow up for confirmation of their arrival time. I told Gus there were limitations to the size truck that could be parked at my building and they showed up with a truck that was too long. Other furniture was weakened and finish worn due to how it was handled. I do not recommend this company. You get what you pay for and don't believe Yelp. read more

After searching everywhere for a mover, I decided on Swift & Gentle Movers when I first moved to my condo. Gus and his crew are the best in DC. They showed up early, and finished in almost half the time other movers had quoted me. I had a last minute issue with my mattress being delivered to the wrong address, and they handled it without a problem. They are extremely careful with moving your things, while at the same time being quick and efficient. Gus is excellent at communicating arrival times and estimates. They offer amazing rates as well.
