    Salt & Pepper Gulf Shrimp

Rating: 4/5 [dine in] Dark moody vibes. We were seated in the lounge by the DJ so it was quite loud but they were nice enough to turn down the volume when we asked. They told us we had to order at the bar since our area wasn't going to be serviced, but we were still checked on enough that it wasn't a big deal. This place is on the pricier side with tapas-sized portions, but most of the dishes we ordered were good. Wagyu Short Rib ($32): galbi-braised wagyu short rib, black garlic dirty rice, pickled mushrooms, galbi reduction. Solid dish overall. The short rib was tender and the flavors were cohesive. Salt & Pepper Gulf Shrimp ($25): lettuce, herbs, sunflower sprouts, sautéed sweet peppers & onions, tiger cry sauce. Really good with a unique batter--one of our favorite dishes. But they only give you like 4-5 shrimps. Duck Gumbo ($22): duck breast, grilled orange duck sausage, charred local okra, rice. Sounded be like than it tasted. Didn't see much duck meat or love the taste, and it was too salty for me. Popcorn Pork Cheeks ($19): chicken-fried Niman Ranch pork cheeks, mala chili crisp, bread & butter pickles. Nicely fried and you can really taste that mala chili. Great starter to share. Tiger Apricot ($14): bacon-wrapped apricot, arugula, chipotle honey mascarpone, cilantro emulsion. Delicious. All the flavors worked really well together. Nice sweet and savory combo. Passionfruit Margarita ($19): Lalo tequila, Giffard passionfruit, house sweet & sour. Tasted like straight alcohol--no real passionfruit flavor. I Don't Want No Shrub ($18): Roku gin, honey, yuzu, BLiS Ginegar, habanero shrub, lemon. Strong with a distinct shrub flavor. Tasted better than the passionfruit margarita, but I liked the Strawberry Lemon Drop more since it's sweeter. Strawberry Lemon Drop ($15 | $7 HH): Tito's vodka, strawberry, lemon, tarragon simple. Best-tasting drink of the three. The strawberry balances out the lemon really well.

I have been to Swift's Attic, probably about 8 times in the last decade. I will tell you, this time, it was super disappointing. It definitely is not as good as it used to be, and the menu is clearly different from a while back - probably with a head chef change, but here is what we collectively noticed: EVERYTHING was way over salted and oily. The food was drowning in these two things and frankly was disappointing. The presentation is always great, but taste has plummeted and was over powered with salt. Yuck. I will not be going back any time soon, nor recommend. Service was friendly and attentive, but the food was below average and not as creative and flavorful as it used to be. The chocolate desert was pretty good, but skip the strawberry one with styrofoam. I miss the old Swift's Attic!!!

I had the opportunity to get a bite to eat here after hearing Sarah Sharp at Elephant Room last Thursday. Swift's Attic is a convenient and yummy place to get a pre or post show snack/meal. We were seated quickly and we shared some apps. One friend had a cocktail and the other had a beer. I didn't have anything to drink there that evening but have in the past and they have great cocktails. We shared some ceviche, a salad, and some shishitos. The food was good and it gave the 3 of us a good opportunity to catch up after the show!

I am still dreaming about the food here! Was in Austin for SXSW and came back to Swift's Attic two nights in a row! Chef Nay is a genius with flavor combinations. The steamed cabbage with thecha, the smoked fish toast, the ricotta agnolotti, and the Saffron strawberry pavlova were all highlights. And the edamame with pop rocks was entertaining! And the mocktails were super tasty and superb value because the flavor is frozen in the large ice cube, which means the drink lasts all night!

Great vegan options! The atmosphere was modern and very nice, and our server was knowledgeable and attentive. We really liked the roasted cabbage and grilled carrots.

Came here once just for drinks for happy hour but decided to come back and try the menu. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, strawberry lemon drop, Kentucky mule, wagyu short ribs, and crab zoba. Our server Sal was fantastic and took great care of us. The place is cozy and the menu is definitely worth a try!

While in downtown Austin waiting for a concert to start we decided to grab a bite to eat at Swifts Attic. This is a trendy lofted restaurant bar that offers delicious foods and an intimate dining experience I loved the interior look of the bar and restaurant. The space had plenty of seating, the decor was appealing, and it felt like an elevated dining experience Our server was phenomenal. She offered great suggestions, brought the food and check in a timely manner, and made sure our waters were always topped off The both the food and drink menus offer a variety of fine dining options with a twist. Some of the items sound bizarre like charred edamame with pop rocks, but it's all delicious Some tips: Consider order a variety of small plates and share them. Each small plate has enough bites to accommodate a party of at least 4-5 (so everyone gets a taste). The edamame, sirloin rolls, short ribs, and shrimp & grits were a must have. One selection that sounded intriguing in concept but failed in execution was the Ice Ball Cocktails. Essentially, these classic cocktails have most of the non alcoholic components frozen in a cocktail ice sphere, and the base alcohol is chilled by it. But the problem is this orb melts slowly, so, you drink the alcoholic and are left with an eventual slush of other ingredients Cheers!

Yummy and curated menu at a great location downtown. Parking - typical downtown parking, best bet is to find a nearby parking garage. Was lucky enough to be able to park at my office nearby. Ambiance - lovedddd the interior of this place. Moody and the decor was great but not too dark or anything like that. Service - Our waiter was great but service was a bit slow. We were there 7pm on a Friday night and they did seem busy, and my group had fun chatting away, but it did seem to take a while to put in our orders, get our drinks and get our check. The food did come out fast and was appropriately paced. Food - Delicious! They recommend you get a handful of plates to share for the table. The falafel was one of the best I've had and their fries with egg was delicious! Brussel sprouts were perfect (when are they not?!) and I also enjoyed the bok choy. They also have a seasonal and normal expansive cocktail menu - creative and fun names.

Great spot to have drinks. I love the old wooden bar. Great job Raneal our bartender. Not only was she friendly and personable, she made us the perfect martini.

This is my fourth visit to this great restaurant. The bar is a great place for just drinks. They make a mean espresso martini. The food is very well prepared and tasty, as well as eclectic Great shared plate options. Good for Vegan/Vegetarian/Omnivores. The iceball cocktails are refillable and so tasty. I live the big round table in a pedestal in the back under an antique chandelier. It's in the second floor above The Elephant Room. Great place to do a whole evening in one building! Easy access to many places downtown from there. One of a kind and worth repeating.

Cool spot for tapas! I came for my birthday with friends and the food was delicious. Every dish had such great flavors and was so unique. Our waitress was very kind too and even brought me a free drink since she gave me a free drink for my birthday and for a wait. She also brought out a birthday dessert (but we had to pay for it which was kind of strange). Overall great time and ambiance!

I recently visited this place with a friend. We found a last min reservation, at. 9:45. Initially when we were greeted by the host, she wasnt sure if the kitchen was even open - but since we had made the reservation - I guess they made an exception. A huge plus point that I'd give this place is that they have vegan options, and I mean optionsss not just one option or an expensive salad. I've avoided such places that looked like hole in the wall things, assuming they'd anyway not have anything catering to my needs - oh was I wrong. Second, the food actually is really decent and creative. The ambiance is very pleasant. It's location is of course perfect if you want to have a night out in the town or enjoy some jazz downstairs. Check it out..

    Lame food. Super salty
    Daniel A.

I wanted to like this place, but wow--what a letdown. The drinks? Mediocre at best. The food? Salty to the point of being borderline inedible. We ordered Brussels sprouts, short rib, squid, and the cheese board, and not a single dish was worth the price. The short rib was especially disappointing--dry and over-salted. Service was unbelievably slow. It felt like ages before our food arrived, and when it finally did, it wasn't worth the wait. The space itself has potential--the bar is cute--but the seating is completely impractical. Uncomfortable chairs, overpriced, bad food, and slow service? Hard pass.

We waited maybe 15 minutes at the walk-in line as others progressively started to pile on behind us. Then again, even people in the reservation line were waiting. This is definitely the kind of place that wants you to wait. The kind of place that wants to build a line outdoors to intrigue onlookers. We were treated nicely, but we definitely could have gotten in right away. By the time we walked in, the place was probably at 60% capacity. It was standing room only at the bar, but not overcrowded by any means. There is a dress code, but it's not entirely clear what it is. Some guy dressed to the 9s got turned away for not having sleeves whereas I got in with sneakers and a t-shirt. They ask for your cellphones upon entering and give you a key in exchange, but there doesn't seem to be any security to enforce it if you don't want to give them up. I have no problem with their policy, but I bet a lot of customers do. Interestingly, their little social experiment seemed to have a positive effect, where we ended up talking to strangers and vice versa. The Powder Room may be making America social again.

Lara went with a Moon Song (rum, blackberry, lime, and honey with lavender cold foam) and an espresso martini and enjoyed both. The bartender claimed I was drunk and cut me off anyway. I was at the bar talking to a girl while waiting to get a drink (the wait was long because the service is very slow, despite the bar not being very busy at all). She was clearly into me, and the bartender kept jumping in trying to talk to her too (instead of doing his job making drinks). He was doing all sorts of things to try and flirt with her and make her laugh: pulling out and showing her buckets of pre mixed cocktails, running and sliding under the bar, etc. She was engaging with both of us , and right in the middle of that, I get cut off out of nowhere. No explanation other than claiming I looked drunk, which I very clearly wasn't. It felt very clear what was going on--he wanted me out of the way. I left and asked the bouncer on my way out if I seemed drunk. This was literally two minutes later. He said no, not at all, and asked me why I would even ask that. I then told him exactly what happened and asked him to let the owner or whoever was in charge know about this extremely unprofessional conduct so they can discipline the bartender. His response was that the bartender has discretion to cut anyone off, and let me know the bartender is supposedly married so he couldn't have been flirting with any of the customers. Well, sounds like his logic is flawed--not only COULD he flirt with his customers, he WAS, and was therefore cheating. I hope his wife finds out. This is perfectly representative of Austin customer service lately and not normal in other places. I was in Tampa for an entire month earlier this year and this would've been unthinkable there. I'm not coming back.
