The Driskill Grill is perfect for a large party, special occasion, or anniversary date! The atmosphere is very intimate, as it is tucked behind the hotel bar/restaurant area behind glass doors. The difference between the quiet in the Driskill Grill versus the bar outside is actually quite stark. The decor is fancy, classic, and elevated. We ordered the duck, which was fantastic. The portion was large, the duck was tender and flavorful, the risotto was creamy, the dried orange peel pieces were interesting, mushrooms were yummy, sauce was perfect and added another dimension. For dessert we had the roasted banana semifreddo which was also good. I had never heard of or had a semifreddo so I was curious about it - I think it's ice cream but the texture is closer to a tiramisu or dense cake. I had called ahead to ask about parking and they said they validated valet parking. In reality they only validate $10 off of the original $30 valet price. read more

Dropped in late one evening as bar served a limited menu. We went for salads, sides and wine which were all very good. They had a great list of wines by the glass and prices were a good value (compared to price gauging in NJ). Came in here a few weekends ago on a Saturday evening to celebrate my friend's birthday. Overall vibes n ambiance: old-time fancy schmancy / kinda reminds me of the 1st class floor on the Titanic, stiff energy Both the food & service were mediocre. Overall, i walked away feeling pretty underwhelmed given the big hype this place gets. I mean, yet another menu downtown with little to few options/selections. Due to this, i settled with ordering the mac n cheese side dish for my food, which was creamy and tasty & worth the dairy/carb splurge, especially for a night ahead filled with booze. Another friend ordered their biscuit board & caesar salad; she said both were just okay, and that some of the biscuits/bread tasted on the staler side. The birthday girl of the evening ordered the spinach spaghetti entree, & loved it! We got a few rounds of drinks, including martinis we all enjoyed. Our server was very well aware that it was our friend's birthday dinner celebration, & yet still, she did not bring her any kind of dessert or special lil fingy?? For such a highly-esteemed establishment with the higher price points they have, i was v surprised & disappointed to find them having missed the mark on customer service, let alone leave us with any kind of "wow" impression as their reputation merits... It is a nice and elegant restaurant inside The Driskill hotel. You have to go past the bar which was jam packed yesterday. We had reservations which I highly recommend. Emily our server was super nice and knowledgeable and helped me with all my gluten related questions. I decided to go with the breast of duck and my husband with the fillet. The duck was absolutely delicious. It comes with a mushroom risotto and candied blood orange which makes a perfect bite with the duck. The citrusy of the blood orange really elevate the duck which had a perfect and black sear, but kept the moisture inside. The risotto was very creamy and the mushroom sauce provided that earthy combination. My husband really liked his fillet although it was a bit overcooked for his taste. He mentioned the latkes were good, but on the spicier side. For dessert we had the caramel flan which was the only gluten free option on the menu besides the sorbet. The flan was perfectly cooked and it had the perfect creamy texture. However, it lacked bit more of flavor. I wish it had more vanilla and was a tiny bit more sweet and the pears were more tender. read more

We just finished a delightful dinner experience at this newly reopened restaurant. We went to the pre-theater prix fixe menu and it was truly amazing. My wife and I are wine and food enthusiasts and frequently attend fine dinners with our Chaine des Rotisseurs fellow members around the planet. Tonight's dinner was Chaine worthy. We started with classic Oysters Rockefeller and Steak Tartar with bone marrow aioli and quail egg accompanied with a roasted Jalapeno. Both were plated beautifully with classic presentation. For entree's , my wife had the Tournedos Rossini with foie gras over a duck fat Latke in a truffle sauce. Prepared and presented to perfection. I had what turned out to be the house special which was a duck breast prepared with balsamic blood orange and mushroom risotto. AMAZING! The desert was a gold dark chocolate mousse cake, gianduja feuilletine base, with a mint gelato. So rich and it perfectly complimented the meal. Even the coffee was amazing. It was a local roasted coffee but had the taste and strength of a Turkish coffee. We ordered some Sambuca to compliment the richness with a bit of sweetness to offset the natural bitterness of the freshly roasted beans The atmosphere was what you would expect from a restaurant of this quality. See the pictures of the restaurant to get a sense of the atmosphere. Beyond the food, what made the dinner special was Emily, our server. She had the perfect demeanor and professionalism you would expect from a restaurant as special as this one. She knew the menu preparations and the wine list parings and made some wonderful recommendations that were on point. We asked to speak to the chef who was unavailable but we met with sous chef Cliff Benavides who gave us a blow by blow education of the food sourcing and meal presentation. He was passionate about his production and full of pride and gracious when we shared our appreciation for his efforts. He gave great praise to executive chef Mark Dayanandan for his ingenuity and also for allowing him to express his artful creations. All in all, I give this restaurant 5 stars. I should mention that we had dinner the night before at another "fine restaurant" in Austin which was very good but not near as special as this restaurant. I would go back to both but my first choice would be this restaurant which I will return to every time I visit Austin. My compliments to the chefs, servers and GM for reintroducing this restaurant in its glorious return. The only recommendation I would make is to change the music to something more consistent with the food quality and ambiance. I would suggest the Rat Pack or something similar. I realize we are in Texas and a Texas theme would be nice considering the history of the hotel but country music or 70's rock just are not a good match for the offering they honor us with as guests. Old, dark wood, classic steakhouse in the famed Driskill Hotel. Excellent appetizers. Charcuterie and carpaccio were excellent. Menu is all steak and shellfish. Only 1 option (salmon) for those allergic to shellfish and don't want beef. 8oz filet ($60) was a little dry and overcooked. Requested medium rare. Blue-cheese spinach was too rich to eat. Scallops were good. Shrimp over seasoned and risotto was very rich. Had a large group (20) at three tables. It took 2 hours to get entrees and restaurant was less than 50% occupied. Good meal. Over-priced for food/service quality. I'd come back as a party of less than 6. Bar service was painfully slow both at the bar itself and in the grille. Understaffed for the crowd and it's a Tuesday. Only 3 occupied tables in the restaurant. It took 20 minutes to find out they were out of port. And they don't have Sambuca. read more

A Memory for a Lifetime! We strolled into the Driskill looking for a recommended Old Fashioned (The TX Revolver it was great) and found The Driskill Grill. It wasn't crowded so we walked in and met our SUPER server Shawn. He was warm and welcoming. He recommended a wonderful Bluebonnet cocktail that smelled and tasted like being immersed in a flower. For the meal we enjoyed the Halibut Cerviche which was delicate and sweet. That was followed by the Steak Tartare paired with crostini, a bone marrow aioli, roasted jalapeños, and a quail egg. Classic dish that just a flavor explosion with each bite. For our main courses we enjoyed the Tournedos Rossini a 6 ounce filet mignon accented with sautéed spinach, potato rösti, and a fantastic truffle sauce, and a marvelous Braised Short Rib completed the meal. It's been awhile since I've been here and it seems I've forgotten to drop a review. I was excited to try this place because of the history, but the food was not what I was expecting. I definitely can't remember what the name of each dish we ordered is called but I didn't particularly like it because it was a mixture of savory and sweet in an entree dish. I thought that was a strange mixture and most of the food that night was like this. I also think for that night there was special menu. Overall, this place is very classy and upscale. It's expensive so it's more on a high end budget. However, the restaurant interior is pretty nice and when you walk into the building, it is very classic and nice. This was our first stop on our Austin eating tour 1/25/23! We didn't have a reservation as we were starved coming off the plane. The hostess with the nicely styled blonde hair was kind enough to find room for me and the wife as we were getting close 8pm. This place is decked out in a spectacular craftsman wood finish. I was staying at the hotel for my birthday and wanted to grab dinner before we went to a show that night. It was right before 6 pm and I was surprised that the dining room was totally empty considering how crowded the bar area was that night. I wasn't surprised that they were able to seat us without a reservation, but we were on a really tight time crunch and I was rather concerned that a fancy restaurant might have a hard time serving us in the 30 minutes that we had. I explained our dilemma to the waiter and he did a great job at pointing out menu items that would be fast for the kitchen to make. We not only received our food very quickly, but they still did a great job cooking the scallops spot on and plating my husband's swordfish beautifully. It was quite expensive, as you'd expect from an upscale place, but it was totally worth it for the stellar service and delicious food. read more

The ambiance was quiet and very grown up. I would not recommend the Driskill Grill for dinner unless you are kid free. The grill is around the corner from the bar area. There were a plethora of food options for steak and seafood lovers. The appropriate dress code would be business casual or snappy casual. You could even where a dress shirt and tie if you'd like. Most ladies were wearing dresses and or dressy shirts with slacks. The grill is available to guests of the hotel and people who are not staying at the hotel. You have to valet if you chose to park in the hotel parking. I will be back soon when I come back to Austin. read more

The food was good here. It's in the hotel and the bar area/lobby was so crowded and we had to walk through there to go to the bathroom. I thought the food was good however I think it was over priced. It shouldn't be that expensive. Also the Mac and cheese has a hint of orange peel and I didn't like that. They ran out of one if there cocktails but they took a long enough time to tell us. Also when we got our bill we didn't understand it. It had gratuity added in as well as a service fee. Giving our waitress over a 140 dollar tip. We ask her what that is and she said she didn't know how that happened and it has never happened before. Phenomenal food, service, and drinks. I only wish I could eat here every day. But, that would be impossible considering I live in Kentucky... and probably couldn't afford it anyway. As a food allergy sufferer, I tend to avoid going out to eat as much as possible. When I do venture out, it's usually with much reservation, hesitation, and anxiety. Let's just say I've gotten used to eating plain hamburgers with no bun. This was not the case at Driskill! THANKFULLY. Words cannot express my gratitude for the delicious and completely allergen free meal I enjoyed while dining here one Friday night. Every single bite was delicious. I had the lamb and it was incredibly tender and flavorful, with just the right amount of fat. They even brought out special bread for me that was dairy and soy free and substituted some other side items for me as well. It has been a long time since I was able to enjoy a meal of this caliber, worry-free. The service was also what made the experience so special. I was dining with my 6 month old son, who fell asleep during dinner. The amazing staff at the Driskill made my son a little make-shift bed from chairs and blankets, so that he could sleep peacefully while we enjoyed our dinner. They even suggested it! I didn't ask...they are just that awesome. I will always make a point to eat here when I'm in Austin. Whether on a romantic date or catching up with old friends, the atmosphere is very classy and up scale. But if you are looking for something a little more lively, just pop outside to the bar area. We typically have a date night DT to remind us about what we love here in the city. With raising rents and constant traffic it can be easy to forget just how splendid the scene is if you simply allow yourself to go and experience all ATX is. With that minor diatribe out of the way we headed out to Congress to do something we hadn't done in some time. It was between Roaring Fork and the Driskill. Both quality establishments. On this particular night however the cocktail room at the Driskill was exciting and there was a buzz so we had a couple near single malts at the bar before joining the main dining hall. Our wait was likely 15-20 minutes with no reservation. If you are a larger group I don't recommend heading here with no reservation expecting seating promptly because the likely will be full and it may take some time. I digress, our server Brittney was fantastic. She helped us navigate the robust menu and make a fantastic experience even better. We began with the tartare and the steamed clams. From there moved to the rack of lamb and risotto and the pork chop with the. My only complaint is that the spinach was less of a vegetable and more of cheese with some greens baked in. Either way I'll make the rest of that with eggs today and all will be right in the world. Ok, now that we had tackled main courses we moved on to the fun stuff ... treats. My date had tiramisu and I had the raspberry sorbet. A little sweet but with a fresh lemon wedge squeezed over top This was an instant winner. There's a guy at the Driskill Grill bar that I'd swear has been here since the invention of silverware and the whiskey tumbler, give or take. He always seems mildly distracted (and to be fair, if my job involved some sort of real life theater-in-the-round I might be too), and on occasion I've had to work to get his attention, and come to think of it, he's not particularly gregarious, but he's a staple all the same, and perfunctory with his pours. Most of my time (as is becoming apparent as I write this) has been spent in the vicinity of the bar, and those sidled up next to you are often ripe for some engaging conversation. I've actually made friends here, and that's gotta be worth something. But that my lingering memories of the Driskill Bar and it's attached lounge are of late nights and new years, friends and the ringing hollows of an elegantly pounded piano, ambient shadows and radiant smiles, and it's hard not to like this place. As I know I'll be back around, and when I do, I know it'll be worth the time. read more

I came here a few years ago and still remember how good the food tasted. We had an early dinner and made the reservations the day of. It was a spur of the moment decision to eat here and they accommodated us very well considering it was fourth of July weekend. This place was just down the street from our hotel in downtown Austin and was a quick drive. We parked on the street, which had plenty of space. As I entered the hotel, I felt totally underdressed. This place was definitely fine dining status. (Obviously I didn't know that considering we made reservations from our hotel just the day of from a restaurant guide.) Any way, the restaurant is small but gorgeously decorated. It was an anniversary I celebrated with an old flame, and the hostess gave us a nice intimate table in the corner. For the first course I had the pistachio scallops. I can honestly say that, that was the best scallop that I have ever eaten ever, just juicy, tasty and simply delicious. (As you can tell, the portions are small there.) For the second course I had the lobster which was magically delicious. And finally for dessert, I had the apple tart. The waitress was so nice that she had the cooks in the back write "Happy Anniversary" on the plate for me. Lastly I want to say that the service is remarkable. Summary: Expect small portions and bland food at a high price. Service and ambiance is top-notch. Dine here if you want to impress a date or a client. However, if you just want a drink and dessert I do recommend this place. (7/10) Texas Chop Salad Maytag Blue Cheese, Smoked Bacon, Avocado, Crisp Plantains. The salad dressing and bacon make this one of the most delicious salads we've had. It is accompanied by a small scoop of guacamole on the side, which didn't necessarily add anything. Unfortunately, this simple salad was one of the highlights at this extravagant restaurant. (4/10) Signature Lobster Bisque Crab Salad on Brioche. It sounds appetizing but was quite disappointing. The amount of crab salad and brioche is equivalent to 1 teaspoon which was drowned by thin and watery soup. It was served lukewarm and had no flavor except for an unpleasant hint of fishiness. (6/10) Roasted Bandera Quail Mushroom Risotto, Cherry Gastrique. This small piece of quail lacked flavor and reminded us of Thanksgiving turkey. However, the quail was tender and was pretty good when combined with the yummy risotto. (4/10) Prime Beef Carpaccio Truffled Dijon Aioli, Arugula. The carpaccio is thinly sliced and has a slimy/mushy texture. This may have been our first time trying carpaccio, but it wasn't our cup of tea. Eating it with aioli sauce did not help much as the carpaccio texture was overpowering. There were a few capers on the corner of the plate...and didn't help this dish either. (6/10) Prime Dry Aged Filet Mignon Forestiere, Truffled Potatoes, Glazed Cippolinis. We ordered the steak medium, however it came out medium-well, causing it to be dry and slightly chewy. We expected more from this upscale restaurant but the filet was about average with other restaurants. The truffled potatoes were an excellent addition and complemented the steak very well. If you are looking for mouthwatering tenderloin, check out Restaurant Jezebel. (4/10) Cast Iron Grouper Crimson Lentils, Broccolini, Mango Butter. This dished is served in a gigantic bowl, but the grouper portion is tiny. But that is okay since the entire dish is completely dry and flavorless. There appeared to be shaved radishes over the grouper which did complement the fish at all. Stay away from this dish even if the waiter recommends it! (10/10) Chocolate Raspberry Gateau Dark Chocolate Mousse, Raspberry Custard, Chocolate - Cambord Liquor Glaze, Raspberry Sorbet. After a disappointing dinner, we were not expected much from their desserts, but we were proven wrong. This is one of the best desserts we have ever had! It consisted of a layer of chocolate cake, rich mousse, and topped with a hard chocolate crust. We were in chocolate heaven! There is a perfect amount of creamy and rich-ness so that you are not left with a stomach ache. This dish is also served with a small scoop of raspberry sorbet which is the richest sorbet we've ever had - it had a strong raspberry taste. Next time we will come back to Driskill Grill just for the dessert. Major props to the pastry chef Tony Sansalone! Service (8/10) As you would expect from an upscale restaurant, the service is very professional. We were happily greeted by the hostess and escorted to our awaiting table. The waiter immediately approached our table, introduced himself, and asked if there is anything he could bring for us. From taking our order, to refilling our water, everything was done in a precise and methodical manner. However, be sure to allow at a minimum of 2.5 hours to complete your meal (excluding drinks). The dinner is served in multiple courses which are spaced out which is great if you want a relaxing meal without feeling rushed. We noticed that other patrons that were there when we arrived were still there when we left! Ambiance (10/10) The Driskill Grill is located in the historic, upscale Driskill Hotel in downtown Austin. Parking can be difficult to find on the side streets, but valet is available. Also, the Grill will partially validate if you choose to valet. When you walk into the hotel lobby you are instantly surrounded by a rich, classy, Southern traditional vibe. It is no different when entering the restaurant. The whole room is elegantly decorated and the fine China tableware is like nothing you've seen in a restaurant - making this one of the top romantic dining atmospheres in town. Perhaps a good choice for drinks/dessert with that special someone, or a large group. read more

I did a tasting menu here and it was a phenomenal experience that I highly recommend! Reservations are a pre-req, of course, and as is usually custom for a restaurant that has a total of (from what I could see) 12 tables, being on time for said res usually means a tacked on 15-20mins or so for your table-in-waiting to finish dessert and be re-set. Which is why having the Driskill Hotel Bar right there in the waiting area is so fortuitous. A great way to kill the time is to order a "Batini"-The Official Cocktail of Austin (in case you were wondering). This clever concoction of Tito's Handmade Vodka, Hibiscus & Ginger Simple Syrup, Agave, and Sweet n Sour is made to resemble a bat, Austin's Official Mascot, floating in your drink. The libation itself, for $9, was not an overpriced novelty, I'm happy to say. It was actually pretty tasty, fusing what one might assume would not be good-flavor/alcohol combinations surprisingly well...and with a heavy-handed bartender, a nice way to get a gateway buzz. Our reservation was finally called and after being sat at our "center of the restaurant" table and immediately being surged upon by two very attentive waiters for our drink orders, we began the full perusal of the extremely impressive menu options! A few minutes after putting in our orders and being served some delicious, warm breads with adorably shaped butter we were brought an amuse bouche, compliments of the chef. My bouche was definitely amused, among other reactions, by the lobster cakes with raspberry mustard and side of hot "lobster -insfused" green tea. The lobster cakes were absolutely delicious w/just a hint of sweet succulence that was enhanced by the conflicting sweet/spicy flavors of the raspberry mustard. The "lobster -insfused" green tea, however, was not something to be sampled by the faint of heart. The only way it was at all drinkable was if you had a bit of lobster cake already in your mouth. I am now a firm believer that the only thing that should ever be lobster-infused is lobster. A cleansed palate later and we were presented with our appetizers. Everyone ordered a different one so that would could all have a sampling. And there was not a "bad choice" amongst them! Though, while the House smoked Duck Pastrami Sandwich was absolutely fantastic and the beer cheese soup was phenomenal, after trying the mouth-placating flavor explosions that were the Roasted Walnut And Caramelized Pear Bisque and Compressed Watermelon, I was immediately stricken with order envy! The Main Event that was our entrees soon followed and again, nothing was a disappointmen or sub-par. The only entree that I didn't try was the vegetarian option. Though the Juniper smoked Alaskan Halibut was exquisite and the Maple-Pecan Fried Bandera Quail was delectable, they could not hold a candle to the Strube Ranch Wagyu Top sirloin! There was world of flavors, textures, and sheer decadence to be discovered here! The kobe beef itself was beyond any justifiable word of deliciousness. It was so rich and juicy and felt like melting silk on the tongue. The full-flavor of the meat was spectacularly enhanced by the Foie Gras Bordelaise. The Bacon-Cornbread Puree was a textural and flavorful enhancement as well and added just enough starchyness to offset the sweetness cooked into the Honeyed Black Eyed Peas & baby carrots. It was as if my tastebuds were under full assault and only resisted surrender to prolong the enjoyment! Momentarily entering a food coma and not yet fully recovered from the ecstasy that had been my meal thus far, the onslaught was only briefly stinted and continued with dessert. Now you know it's a good meal when the most unimpressive part of it is still damn good! I did not try the PB&J for fear of spontaneous combustion, but, the Spiced Honey-Amaretto semi-Fredo accompanied by a cup of fresh French Pressed coffee did not disappoint. While it wasn't as rich or decadent as the rest of the meal, the flavor combinations were interesting and a nice surprise. It was a wonderful end to a exceptional meal! read more

Wow, just wow. My wife took me here for my birthday and surprised me with the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairings. One of the beauties of the tasting menu is you get to try things you wouldn't normally try and discover you like things that you wouldn't think you would. The Service: I was really impressed with the service being that I like fine dining but I don't like pretentious restaurants. Our server was really cool and down to earth but new her stuff really well. She orchestrated the wine pairings for us and did a stellar job. I told her the more red the better being that I'm not a big white wine fan. She went above and beyond to find red wine that would substitute the white. The Food: With 7 courses you would think you're bound to have some not so great. Entirely not the case. Here's the line up: Beef Tartar, Beet Tar-tine, Carpaccio with Truffles, Fish Cheeks with Orzo, Halibut with Chorizo stuffed Potatoes, Antelope with Parsnip Puree, Cheese Course, Watermelon Sorbet with Berry Tart and Hazelnut Mousse. It was heaven. At first you think, "Really?!" with the portion size but it's a marathon, not a race. By the end of meal, you have had way more than enough to eat. Overall it was one of if not the best meals I have ever had. Although it is pricy, the wine pairing is definitely worth it. The wine and food together really enhance each other and makes the experience ever more special. At $400 (per couple after tip) it obviously isn't something you do every day but for a special occasion, it is certainly special. read more

I went for Austin Restaurant Week and the $35 option was amazing. Three course meal with great options. I understand that they do change the menu often so there is not a certain dish to recommend. The building is phenomenal. Parking isn't great but they do validate. The entrance for the grill is a little tricky to locate and the signage isn't ideal but it is tucked behind the bar. There was caulking live music playing in the bar area. I went on a Tuesday and made a reservation and I would recommend everyone do the same. The dining area is quite small. read more

We walked into an amazingly beautiful setting ready for a wonderful birthday celebration. Our server was courteous and friendly, and we were ready for a special culinary experience. The starting appetizers were wonderful then after some delay, the main course arrived. My birthday friend thoroughly enjoyed his Filet Mignon, but his wife's halibut was so overcooked it was inedible, and my salmon was so undercooked it too was inedible. The kitchen let everyone down...not just our party looking forward to a great meal, but the server who was clearly embarrassed. Finally, the desserts came and were very good but only slightly redemptive of the meal. We were not charged for the uneaten main course items, but we wondered if the manager or chef should have appeared in order to apologize for this episode. We would like to try Driskill Gril again, but we're not sure we should take the 65-mile drive to Austin and be disappointed again. read more

Chose to visit this place for Valentine's day and had the most disappointing dinner of my life. There was a set menu for the occasion with a few options you could choose between here and there. I, as well as the couple next to me, chose to go with the Scallops and were left extremely hungry and unsatisfied when the Scallops turned out to be one lone and singular scallop. All in after tip, ended up paying $300+ to sit at a tiny table, in packed room, with lackluster food, and leave with a quarter full stomach. Made sure to pick up pizza afterward to fill the huge void of void in my body. read more

We reserved a month in advance a tasting menu however upon arrival they told us they didn't have it. Also, filet mignon had no marble on it, which typical filet mignon doesn't have a lot of marble anyway. However it was lacking flavor because of this. They were also out of a few wines. Move over, Cabernet, I had a ribeye at Driskell Grill that is now at the absolute top of my list! Although I ordered the halibut cheeks, and they were very tasty, I robbed my hub's plate repeatedly to get to that gorgeous piece of meat adorned with blue cheese potatoes (which amped up the love all the more!). Just a fabulous dish, could not have been better. The chilled cucumber soup my guy had as an appetizer was also delicious, but meanwhile he was hankering & reaching for my beef tartare, which was the absolute best of that I've ever had, authentic French renditions eaten on location in France included. My conclusion? Driskell just knows how to do beef, period. The wines were fantastic, too (see pics), and I LOVE the fact that they offer half bottles of so many wonderful wines so that we didn't have to devote our affection solely to a bottle of red or white. I HIGHLY recommend the 2010 Chablis pictured, and double my recommend for the 2005 D'Arie Zin pictured, it moved to the top of my list of favorite reds, surpassing even the heretofore love of my red wine life (MacMurray Cab Franc). I should have called it a day after such a delightful piece of cow, and such insanely good glasses of grape, but I disregarded my instinct and went for the panna cotta anyway. Never, ever, EVER ignore your instincts - they're almost ALWAYS right. Don't get me wrong, the panna cotta itself was every bit as great as I expected, but it was buried in an inch of overly sweet white chocolate rice-crispy like crunchies that were more of a turn-off than a titillation. I daintily suggested to the waiter, and hope he passed the word to a receptive dessert chef, that a single layer might be more in order as it would be less likely to rob the the very delicate and lovely panna cotta of its rightful role as star of the show. Not to worry, however, as my impression of the restaurant, the atmosphere, the stellar service, the delicious wines, and the mind-blowing ribeye & steak tartare remains wholly unshaken - and no future trip to Austin will be considered complete without a repeat performance of this absolutely fabulous dining experience. read more

My fiancé and I have tried fine dining in Texas several times, only to be disappointed. Driskill Grill has been the exception, as we thoroughly enjoyed spending our anniversary there. When we arrived we were seated at an awkward table and tried moving our chairs to different places to make it more comfortable. The staff noticed that we didn't care much for the table and asked if we'd like to be seated elsewhere. We took them up on their offer, which was nice of them, but we preferred our first waiter and had we known he would have been swapped out for someone that wasn't as nice or helpful we would have stayed in our original seats. The food was great. We had Beef Tenderloin and Duck. I cannot remember what else we had as it was about a month ago, but we liked everything. We appreciated their little touches of personalizing the experience to the celebration of our anniversary. Our menu was customized to congratulate us on our anniversary, including our names. At the end of the meal we were brought a dessert that said "Happy Anniversary," and were sent home with our menu rolled up nicely and a small box of chocolates. Before we left, the waiter offered to take our picture for us--we were impressed because they really strived to make it a special experience. read more
