At the 1st official lesson, she had him jumping in the pool and flipping over to his back to float COMPLETLEY UNASSISTED! I seriously can't believe how fast she taught him! In full disclosure, in Summer 2023, we enrolled him in a water wings class for 2 months. In Summer 2024, we signed him up with a different 1 on 1 private instructor for a few months. So, my son had familiarity with swim lessons, but he had never been able to float or do much of anything on his own in the water. I mean, he is still working on blowing water bubbles becuase he hates putting his face in the water. So, to see Allyson *magically* had him doing all this with 2 lessons... I mean, I have no words to express my appreciation! She knows what she is doing! She is teaching life saving skills first! And she has a totally laid back and straight forward, no nonsense demeanor that I just respect so much! After the trial lesson, I bought a 10 lesson package and I'm looking forward to all that she is going to teach my son this summer!! Thank you, Allyson!!

As a parent, the first few lessons were honestly a little hard--watching my baby adapt to a new environment, especially water, can be nerve-wracking. What made all the difference was Allyson. Her professionalism, experience, patience, and genuine care for my baby girl was truly remarkable. Over time, I watched my daughter transform from hesitant to confident, excited, and enthusiastic about her abilities. She now absolutely loves being in the water. Allyson has a special way with children that immediately puts parents at ease. Knowing my child is developing such an invaluable life skill gives me immense peace of mind. It's reassuring to know she's learning water safety early and building confidence that will carry her throughout her life. I highly recommend Allyson to any parent looking for a nurturing, skilled, and trustworthy place for their child to learn to swim.

Tl;dr we're not coming back with our younger children…read more I would give this place 1 star except for one reason. Pro: * Coach Ella is an AMAZING teacher. When we switched from Group to Private lessons, our son improved leaps and bounds every single week. She is fun and smart and helpful, and she should be the benchmark that ALL teachers strive for. Cons: * The Group lessons don't really teach much beyond water comfortability. Instead of helping each child improve individually, the teachers just go through the motions in a systematic pattern each class. * The school shows little to no interest in caring about a child advancing; the school only seems to care that our check clears. We spent 1.5 years at the same Group level without ever advancing because the teachers weren't encouraged to push our child. See the note above re: going Private with Coach Ella. * The front desk staff is horribly unhelpful and very poorly trained. We've experienced multiple issues with bookings, billing, and scheduling when interacting with them. There should also be a "no cell phone" policy because half the time we need to speak with someone, the front desk staff members are texting / using their cell phones. * The showers and changing rooms are dirty and gross by the time we need to use them at 5:45 pm. Maybe instead of allowing 2-3 front desk staff to play on their cell phones all shift, there should be a rotation of light cleaning every 30/60 minutes. A little bit of care would go a long ways.

Anna at Hall Swim Academy is an excellent teacher…read more Two years ago, my son (who was 7 at the time) was going to another swim school and was doing ok but advancing slowly. As part of that school's safety training, they threw him in the water wearing street clothes. He was doing ok for about 30 seconds but then panicked and started to sink so one of the teachers had to jump in and pull him out. (It was partially my fault since I mistakenly had him wear long pants that absorbed water). Anyhow, he freaked out and got very scared. We continued to go to that school for several more weeks but he stagnated with his training and the teacher became frustrated and tried to push him too hard so he had a melt down. Fast forward two years, I started taking him to the Hall Swim Academy west LA location about 2 months ago and he started trying again to learn how to swim with Anna. Anna is extremely kind and patient with kids. She demonstrates what she wants him to do and corrects mistakes in his floating and swim strokes and has him repeat as necessary. She is able to recognize how much to push and when to give him more space and repeats instructions as necessary. He loves going to swim class with Anna and is motivated to learn so he can swim with his friends at summer camp. Yesterday, he had two major breakthroughs. He spent most of the class in the pool without wearing goggles which he previously refused to do. Then, on his own, he decided he wanted to try the swim test. So, he put on street clothes over his swim suit, jumped in the water, floated on his back for 20 seconds and then easily swam to the side of the pool and climbed out on his own. He was so proud of himself for overcoming his fear and is now looking forward to his next class with Anna. I am very grateful to Anna for her kindness, professionalism, excellent teaching skills and being such a good motivator. Thank you!!

Bailey is playful and fun, but also direct in guiding my opinionated four year old so that she can be water safe. Under her instruction she was able to learn how to swim across the pool by herself unsupported. With her new found confidence she now eagerly practices diving for gems and starfishes when we go to the pool as a family. A big change from where she began this summer - completely unwilling to go swimming without support from her puddle jumper!

The progress our child has made with Andy's help has been tremendous. He has a wonderful way of combining play with structured learning, which keeps the lessons fun, engaging, and effective. However, as we continued, each lesson was with a different instructor, and that lack of consistency made my son increasingly uncomfortable. At his age, familiarity matters, and it became clear he wasn't settling in the way I had hoped. What ultimately led me to write this review, though, was not the instructors--it was the customer service. My interactions with the scheduler/representative regarding scheduling, missed days, and invoices were unpleasant and rigid. There was very little kindness or willingness to work with me, and the communication felt cutthroat rather than supportive. Because of this inflexibility, my son essentially missed out on continued lessons. Instead of working with me as a parent trying to navigate life with two young kids and a disabled husband, I felt pushed out over a missed appointment. In retrospect, I now see how much that experience negatively impacted my son's relationship with the water. I'm writing this while watching my son thrive at Water Wings, where he is happy, confident, and excited to learn. Seeing the difference has made me realize just how behind he became due to how things were handled at Aqua Buddies. Thankfully, there are other options in this city. I truly wish Aqua Buddies placed more emphasis on compassion, flexibility, and customer service--especially when working with young children and families who may need understanding, not rigidity.
