My son is currently working on remembering his breathing while swimming, and I have already seen great progress. His instructor, Reya, is wonderful with him. She keeps him motivated and offers plenty of verbal praise, which is exactly what he responds to. The facility is very family friendly. There are changing cabanas available to use after class, and the pool area is shaded with plenty of space for parents or guardians to comfortably watch. Classes are 20 minutes long and offered on either a Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule or a Tuesday and Thursday schedule, which makes it easy to find something that works. They also offer parent and me classes for babies on the weekends. The owner, Jennifer, is so kind and clearly pours her heart into what she does. You can truly feel her passion for swim safety and for creating a supportive space for kids to learn and grow. We are so grateful we found Water Otters. It has been such a meaningful experience watching my son build confidence in the water.

All the kids improved drastically over the course of the time we've been working with Nick and I think their class has instilled a love of athletics and good sportsmanship in all of them. Not only is Nick a great coach -- knowledgable, patient and able to communicate his instructions well -- he has a great coaching presence that the kids really respond to. They listen, they're engaged, they learn and they have a great time. This was on full display during a birthday party we attended where Nick organized and entertained a large group of young kids and had everyone participating and enjoying themselves. We also took swim lessons with Coach Paulina and our son went from wearing a swim vest in the water to being a very strong swimmer in a matter of a couple of months. Paulina has a great way with kids, making them feel comfortable in the water, having fun, but also challenging them to take the next step and make progress. Now he's doing handstands, building real confidence, and even going into the deep end -- something we never thought we'd see this soon. After spending two years in swim school with very little progress, this truly feels like the best money we've ever spent. We realized that we're actually spending less with these one-on-one private lessons with Coach Rasha and getting more out of each lesson than the swim schools -- We honestly joke that we should've asked the swim school for a refund on all that time and money. My son had almost no experience in a pool before we started classes. He can also be extremely cautious and careful and usually takes longer than his peers to feel comfortable with a new situation. And then to make matters even worse, we tried another teacher right before Andy, who kept forcing my son's head underwater and ignoring his pleas for her to stop. So going into these classes my son was pretty on edge and would cry at almost every class for the first few weeks. But Andy was VERY patience with my son. Andy created the perfect balance of knowing when to play games and have fun and when to push my son to learn a new skill! Because of that balance, my son was able to learn a bunch of water skills, including jumping into the water and swimming back to the edge (helping him to be much more water safe), plus he now loves the water and loves swimming. He now wants his birthday party to be a pool party and he wants to be a Life Guard Scientist when he grows up. My son now has confidence in the pool and he loves it! And I feel much better about his safety at the pool because of the new skills he has learned!

Jeremiah makes it a point to learn not only every kids name but every single parent. He's really out there giving it his all. My 1.5 is so happy to get in the pool every weekend and my 6 year old is finally getting enough confidence to put his face in the water. (The 24 hour fitness has its own issues but regardless of that, the BSS staff tries to make everyone as comfortable as possible because some of the gym goers can be a little prickly)
