I would give this place 5 stars, except for a shitty experience today. If you ever come to this place, and the girl with puffy fro pulled up on top of her head, terrible eye liner, and equally terrible attitude tries to make your espresso drink, ASK FOR SOMEONE ELSE. Why? Somehow she was able to make a latte and a mocha taste like dirt water. Weak as fuck, where's my espresso at dammit? I paid $13 bucks for two drinks that tasted as bleh as that chick's attitude. What attitude you ask? Look, I'm not asking for a colgate smile and perky chirpy greeting, but I'd also like to NOT be treated like picking up my drinks is somehow offensive to her soul. Especially when her drinks are meh as her personality. And she slapped those drinks down on the counter without calling out the order #. When I asked if that was my order, she answered like this was the dumbest question on planet. Sorry, lady, there are three other customers waiting - was I supposed to read your mind and know that this was my drink via telepathy? Maybe her attitude is terrible because she drinks her own espresso drinks. I'd be cranky af too. read more

Really loved this cute spot! The staff was helpful the coffee was great and the area was clean and trendy. I got a vanilla latte and it was only $5 for a large and was great- not super sweet which I appreciated. My roommate got the draft latte which was sooo delicious but be warned it was quite sweet and creamy (not that that's a bad thing!). Also if you're looking for somewhere to do work or study this is pretty small but there are tables. When I went around 11 am they were busy but there were open tables. I'm sure it might be crazier on the weekends. I also loved how close this was to the White House! Good coffee-stop spot. read more

Disclaimer...I own Starbucks stock so I live at Starbucks...but Swings makes damn good coffees and when work meetings move to a different office, my coworkers and I usually opt for a Swings cup of java. This place is definitely popping at normal break times, like breakfast and lunch, but they handle it well because there was no line and they popped my order out quickly. The inside has the typical city vibe with the modern decor. The coffee is very strong so for those strong coffee lovers this is your place! I had a small latte and even with added sweetener it was very strong. I also ordered the cinnamon bun with cream cheese icing and it was quite good and moist. After our run around the city trying to make an appointment, we had to stop for a quick breakfast! We looked for the nearest coffee with a decent Yelp rating and stumbled onto Swing's Coffee. It's located in front of the Metropolitan Square. There are a handful of two-top tables and a bistro bar with another handful of chairs. There is a wide enough space to allow for waiting without standing on top of those eating or ordering. We ordered an iced latte, chai, and a chocolate croissant. The staff was fast and efficient! They are probably very used to morning rushes since they operated like a smooth machine. The chai was fantastic, not too sweet and not overly spiced. The croissant lasted 0.5 seconds! Very flaky and the chocolate was just enough sweetness. The coffee was delicious and very much needed to fend off on oncoming headache. I would definitely stop in on my travels through the city or just a quick pick me up during the day! read more

You know the place is legit and the baked good are fresh when at 12 minutes before closing they don't charge you for the cinnamon bun you order. In fact, they gave me the last two for free, saying they were just going to throw them out anyway. The house Americano is also so delicious I almost bought a bag of whole beans but I was lured in by the Ethiopian instead. A little lemony, but overall very good. Super cool space and setup; however, seating can sometimes be hard to find if you go during a rush. Ordered a 20oz coldbrew with soy milk for only about $4! I go to Swing's every single day I work at my office in downtown DC. The baristas at the 14th St location are simply the absolute best!! My drinks are always delicious and crafted in the best manner possible. The milk is always creamy and there's just enough espresso in my drink to kickstart my day. And the lovely latte art is the cherry on top! The prices are consistent with what you pay in the city, but you don't always receive excellent service at other cafes like I do here. I've yet to experience any issues with my order and I've frequented this location since their opening in 2017. I give praise to the baristas each chance I get! Her coffee sat their unannounced too. There was only 3 customers in the store during our visit. I always try to find local coffee while visiting cities and this was a great find. It is a small shop but cool ambience with lots of natural lighting. They have oat and almond milk (+$1). I had an iced vanilla latte with oat milk. This drink was absolutely fabulous! The only straws they have are paper. I love being environmentally friendly but can't jump on the paper trend. This is my favorite coffee shop in DC, and there are some great spots in this city. They use high quality beans and the baristas are great. They perfectly heat the coffee (overhearing is both common and negatively impacts flavor). Lattes and cortadi are my go-tos and they're always delicious and creamy here. The foam is also a perfect consistency. Don't waste your time with a cold drink if you're a true coffee connoisseur - get a hot espresso and you'll be glad you did. You can get cold brew anywhere but you can't often get really great hot coffee! read more

I really, really like this place. The lattes are delicious and the space is nice to read or work for a bit on a Saturday. I wouldn't call it cozy but it's clean and bright and the tables aren't in top of each other. I'm often a regular on the weekend. Note they aren't open on Sunday. Small simple standard looking coffee spot that just does coffee right. Simple straight forward menu. I went with my girl friend in the middle of a weekday afternoon. We ordered a mocha and hands down it is the best mocha I've personally ever had. All mochas should be like this! Rich chocolatey taste with perfectly brewed espresso. The mocha is not sweet and is exactly what I look for. Many places add too much milk, cream, sugar etc. to mask a standard or subpar mocha.... Swing's on the other hand doesn't rely on the fillers and sticks to making the basics right. Would happily go again and make this a regular spot if I lived in DC. I took off 1 star only because the coffee was served in a to-go cup. I had ordered the large mocha but there were no ceramic/ regular cups that could hold that volume. Seating can be scarce but the beverages are really good! I swung by this on a weekday afternoon and every seat in the house was full. Thankfully, after a few minutes of lurking, I was able to get a small table. My chai latte was excellent - spicy and frothy and not too rich. Great coffee! Terrible service. My work team came in one afternoon for a coffee break. My pregnant coworker asked for a decaf latte. Since the place was quite busy with making other people's orders and ours (there were about 10 of us), we were sometimes confused on whose order it was when the barista yelled out the readied drinks. When we thought she said a decaf latte was ready, my coworker went up and asked her if this was decaf. The barista didn't really answer her immediately and may have just said a very quite "mhmm" without looking at her. So she asked again, and then the barista looked at her with wide eyes and said "yes" in an annoyed manner. When my coworker turned around, I saw the barista give her an eye roll. SERIOUSLY?! Even if the barista didn't know she was pregnant, if they had answered her the first time she asked, maybe she wouldn't have to repeat her question again. Maybe they should start asking people for their names when customers order their coffee so we don't have to "bother" them by asking if we are taking the right drink or not. read more

On a hunt to find the best coffee shops in the DMV. This place definitely made the top list. Swing's is a real deal coffee shop. The latte was perfect, not too strong but not too milky. Latte art always makes the coffee taste better for some reason. The milk was perfectly velvety as a true latte should be. The croissants are just as delectable as the coffee. Flakey, buttery outside with a light airy texture inside. They have plenty of other delicious and homemade bakery items I'll have to try in the future. The atmosphere is relaxing and casual. The marble countertops and tiled bar really bring a modern yet industrial vibe. My only concern was the lack of friendliness by the employee who took my order and walked in. Maybe it was just too early for him. However, the other employee who made my drink was a little more upbeat. Hence the 5 stars still. read more

This was the worst latte I've ever tasted in my life. Their fall latte consists of luke warm milk with a hint of cinnamon. It probably cost 0.30 to make, I paid 4.50 for it. It is the size of a small at Starbucks. I sadly will never see that 10 dollars I just wasted there, but you can. You can be the difference in this world. Avoid at ALL COSTS. This is my probably my favorite coffee spot in D.C. It's never too crowded, and it's right across the street from my office which makes it convenient for me. The baristas provide excellent service and make sure you have the caffeine you need to get through work day. Today, I went over with my colleague and ordered a latte. I spontaneously requested to have a rabbit latte design on it and one of the baristas, named Sarah, went the extra mile to provide me with what I asked for! It was so cute and it made us both smile. This place is a literal hidden gem, tucked under a huge building on 14th and G streets. However, it's coffee packs some big flavor . It does not do any of the crazy "caramel mocha frappuccino" type drinks you'd expect from nor are the pastries anything spectacular. However, this coffee shop shines solely based on the "classic" coffee and espresso drinks. When I come to Swing, I always get either an Americano or a dry cappuccino, which is always brewed to perfection. Why anyone would choose Starbucks or Peet's down the street from here is beyond me. The espresso is rich, deep tasting, and roasted right here in DC. For the quality you get, the prices are reasonable. Baristas are friendly (which is always a plus!). It is definitely one of the most underrated places in DC. read more

I wouldn't recommend it as a place to sit and hang out since there isn't much comfortable sitting--lots of bar type stools. I would call this Apple of coffee, they know what they are doing and it is not just another coffee shop. Soon after entering the interiors caught my eye, there is something old world about this place. Baristas are very knowledge and they own roast their own coffee.
