Had a better experiencing eating in a few years ago but I found take out disappointing. The tofu was hard and seemed old. The vegetables in my vegetable curry were over cooked and the curry sauce lacked the complex flavors that a good Thai vegetable curry dish contains. Disappointing overall. A huge diverse menu and everything is incredible. The portions are huge, so my 3 kids can split a dinner portion and all have enough to eat. My personal favorite is the Kew Warn. Kew Warn isn't on every Thai menu - maybe it's called something else. The coconut milk and the heavy spice make a great combo. Sy Thai also has a way of making "hot" almost inedible, which is what I want sometimes. I'm taking runny nose, hard to breathe HOT. Yes. Sometimes I like to suffer when I eat. But if you get Medium heat, it's as hot as most other Thai places. Maybe those other restaurants are afraid of getting complaints about "too hot." We mostly get take-out. From phone call to the food being ready is never more than 15 minutes. They say "20 minutes" in the phone, but it's never 20 minutes. My whole family loves Sy Thai, including my in-laws who live 3 hours away. Many times we order it on our way outta town and have dinner when we get up there. But even if we save it for the next day, it's still amazing. read more

Pretty good service, and they allowed us to place our order on the phone so we could eat as soon as we walked in. However, the sauce on the pad thai left a little something to be desired. BEST PAD THAI EVER! The sauce is so complimentary and the meat is always well-prepared (no gross pieces with grizzle or anything). They provide enough sauce to coat the noodles and still have more left at the bottom- in case you are a person who likes a lot of sauce. The service is always quick and thorough- they follow-up to see if you have been helped, they say hello, they are not "too-friendly" but they definitely get the job done well! read more

It probably isn't a good thing that my co worker turned me onto this place, we've been here twice this week for lunch... Too good to stay away. It's a quaint little place that gets super busy for lunch, carry outs and dine in. Regardless of how busy it is the service we've had has been really good. I've gotten the traditional pad Thai with a medium heat and the sesame chicken mild heat. Both super super scrumptious and more then enough for lunch portions, I've taken a carry out box home both times. My co worker has had the drunken noodle both times, she loves it! The soup though... Is hot steamy goodness! I would come back at all hours of the day and night for the Tom yum soup. The broth is the perfect consistency and the heat on it is pin point perfect! Can you say obsessed? We've also tried the crab ragoons for an appetizer, the filling is amazing but I do wish the dough was thinner. I have yet to introduce my man half to this place but I'm sure he'll enjoy. Sy Thai is my go-to place for Thai in the area - specifically if I am craving noodles. The peanut noodle dish (also at the Troy location) is insanely satisfying. The food here in general is very well done. It is always consistent and you know you will get quality. The service is average, but that isn't why you're coming here in the first place. Portions are large so be prepared to have leftovers for tomorrow. read more

This place is the ONLY Thai restaurant I have EVER been to that actually gives you spicy food! I asked for extra hot and oh dear, they gave me extra hot. Most places sit there and pretend that their food is spicy, when its barely a mild. And to make things better, our waiter was soooo nice! I highly recommended one in Troy, but not this place. I ordered food with mild sauce. But is was not even close. It was hot. And also my husbands' too. He usually ok with hot sauce, but not this one. It was super hot. I was thinking to share the food with my kid, that is the reason I picked mild sauce, but it was impossible. If I didn't taste the food before I gave it to my kid, it's almost to get a disaster. And SY THAI at Troy has much better food too. read more

Vegetable pad Thai, peanut curry, udon noodles and vegetable curry are some of our favorite entrees. Crab cheese and spring rolls are always a delicious appetizer. Lately though, take out and dine in have only been okay. A lot of the dishes have been over sauced, too spicy, unusual items in the order and sloppy. This used to be a regular place for us but every time we come back to give Sy Thai another chance, it's just been worse each time. read more

My co-workers and I order from here quite often and we have never been disappointed. The food is good and they offer a wide array of dishes that most other Thai restaurants don't offer. I have tried several of them! I typically order Pad See Ew from every restaurant, but I haven't even tried theirs because I order so many other dishes. This place is just average at best. The service is super slow if you don't get there before 11:15 am for lunch on a weekday, and the food is bland and over-priced. I've been here several times for lunch and I've had better Thai food from the greasy-spoon type Thai joints. read more

We had a good variety and everything was good, except for the beef (we had it in the peanut curry) which was dry and tough. It was a little expensive, but the flavor was really good on everything. Their version of medium spicy is most places version of spicy so heads up if you don't like it too spicy. read more

The first few times I went here it was great. The kow pad fried rice was fresh and flavorful, however, my las 2 visits my fried rice seemed like the vegetables had been sitting out for days and something was turning the rice a grayish color, I will defiantly not be coming back. read more

This is a favorite Thai restaurant. I love the dishes with the brown sauce although everything is very tasty. Their signature dish is very good also. Have been eating here for a decade and always come back. The only real concern I have is that the seasoning as it relates to hot value is not consistent. Most often if I have multiple orders on a take out all will be seasoned identically which doesn't always work out when someone wants medium hot and the other wants mild. I have come to think of this as a language issue. I have found some success with calling in orders singly but that can take quite a few calls depending on the number in your party. No alcohol. Never feel rushed. Place can seat larger groups up to about 8, but only one large party at a time. If you live locally this is a regular must go to Thai restaurant. read more

Okay so I'm a little back and forth with this place right now. To begin with I do go there ALLL the time. They have the best noodle entrees, egg noodles and drunken noodles are my favorite and to die for, a must try if you go there. And I'm a huge egg roll junkie but the spring rolls here are my favorite roll I've ever had and the sauce they come with is magic in my mouth. Oh not to mention the shrimp chips they give you before your dinner are so good I eat basket after basket. The atmosphere is good with some funky Asian music playing that always gives me a good laugh and for some reason puts me in a good mood. To first add, I've always thought the place was a tad pricey but hey it's birmingham and a nice Thai restaurant so I don't expect much less in pricing, But today I wanted to order some carry out and I got a little upset and decided not to order becAuse I was going to order the dinner entree of the drunken noodles with an order of spring rolls and crab ran goons, thinking they could do something for a side or small order or fried rice and came to find out they only add a side order of white rice to entrees and if I wanted standard fried rice no protein or anything I could only get it as an entree for 11$. I just thought that was ridiculous and couldn't believe they didn't offer anything smaller or additional with a dinner meal. Well that's my rant but honestly other than my fried rice fiasco I highly recommend the place! Amazing food! read more
