I thoroughly enjoyed the food when I went before. However, I went to grab takeout last week, and no one working was wearing a mask. The lady at the counter/register who I would have done my transaction with (and obviously been close to) had on no mask. Then I saw the cooks were mask-less and talking and laughing over the food as they cooked with no gloves. Things I would not have been concerned about before, but with Covid-19, and the restaurant not adhering to the current sanitation mandates in place, it wasn't worth the risk and I left. i've been ordering von thai at least a couple times a month for the past six months, and if there's one big negative i'll say about them is that they are horribly inconsistent -- but, overall, they're still good. it does suck that one order of von fried rice (for instance) is dope as hell where the next is strictly mid, but it's never *bad*. this review will be in regards to my last delivery order. first up, the aforementioned von fried rice. spoiler: it wasn't the best. my girlfriend said it perfectly.. it tasted... fresh? bro, i want my fried rice to be greased up with a nice char. often times it is like that. but this time, it just tasted... fresh. i dunno, it's not what i look for from fried rice. you can even see in the picture it looks pretty ehh. the orange tofu we've gotten before, and it's one of their more consistent dishes. my only knock here is that there's hardly any tofu in it most of the time. the sweet and spicy and tangy sauce is great though and the vegetables are plentiful, so i ain't gonna bitch too much. i do wish they gave a little extra white rice though to soak up all the sauce. the drunken noodles... sigh. i can't get over how much these differ when i order them. truly they're never great, but i want them to be, so i keep rolling the dice and ordering them. the biggest problem i have with them is that they don't have thai basil by default -- why? it's the 1a necessary ingredient to making drunken noodles taste like drunken noodles. my girlfriend and i opt to add it, but this time around it didn't taste like anything...? we could see little nugs of chopped up somethinggreen, but it had no flavor. also, they went *hard* on the bean sprouts -- so hard that the dish had a fishy smell.. it was about 50/50 with the noodles. i think i can unfortunately safely assure myself i won't give the drunken noodles another try.. and it sucks, because drunken noodles are my absolute favorite dish from thai restaurants. sigh. the massaman curry is an absolute must. along with their potato curry, they're two of the more consistent dishes they make -- and even at their worst, they're the best tasting thing on the menu. sweet, spicy, filling, and crazy flavorful. i've been tempted to have a tray of it catered, it's that good. they also have and actually make their own spring rolls. they're reliably tasty, but the sauce changes from what looks like a sort of homemade applesauce concoction (it's delicious), and a neon pink colored sauce that looks like it's from a bottle. overall, von's an easy 5/5 if they were to make their dishes to the best of their ability every time, but since they pretty frequently make duds alongside their studs... i'll toss 4 stars. read more

But nothing compares to the drunken rice. I always get it with chicken but it seems like it would be good with beef too! This is probably one of my favorite Thai places in Metro Detroit. They usually have daily specials and they offer a wide variety of awesome Thai food options. They have a small seating area inside if you choose to dine in. This place is located inside a tiny strip mall off of 10 Mile it's easy to miss so make sure you keep your eyes open. The employees working here always very polite and you can even see them cooking your meal when you walk in. Every time I go here I get the same thing because it's simply amazing I get the curry chicken and they make it exactly how they're supposed to. Usually when you order Thai food in order it spicy they sometimes will give you mild thinking we can't handle their Thai Spice. This definitely is not the case here don't be deceived... I ordered extra spicy and let me tell you it could have probably took the paint off my Chrysler it was so hot!!! The portions are HUGE, enough to last us at least 3 meals each. The food was hot when I went to pick it up about 15mins after it was ready. Pad thai and drunken noodle are my mainstays here. The ambiance isnt the best for in house dining, but id highly recommend their take out. Open later then most on the east side, so thats helpful too. Man-O-Man! I was really hoping for a delish EAST side Thai joint but apparently nothing compares to my childhood memories of Thai Star in Warren. They've set the standards high and VT doesn't touch it. I doordashed, it was a quick delivery but the special soy sauce is just SS. The rice has good flavor but it's greasy! The spring rolls taste like bad sour cabbage and I LOVE good sour cabbage so ...blah. The dumplings are good but this is a first and last for us. What is it with the containers full of fried potatoes with my curry??? So many local spots are doing this and it's annoying and lazy. This vegetable panang curry had less than 5 pieces of clunky bell pepper, the same amount of carrots and broccoli, 2 pieces of cabbage (huge squares) and the rest..... frozen fried potatoes. This review is for the Warren location. I ordered my two go-to items on any Thai menu to see what they're made of. I ordered the Thai iced coffee with extra cream. It was sweet and delicious. I also ordered the Pad Thai V with fried tofu. The tofu was crispy and the sauce has a nice balance of sweetness and tanginess. Thank goodness they gave me a lime slice instead of a lemon slice. And they use spill proof containers, not leaky foam pads ones. Overall I'm definitely coming back to try other dishes. read more
