I wanted to get an incredible cake for the gf and her friends for her birthday and fired up my handy dandy Yelp app. While scrolling through some great options, I saw Sydney's Sweets pop up in the list and was so glad I did. Now I've known about them for a while but this was my first actually ordering from them. I called on a Saturday at about 3pm and Jermaine answered the call, both literally and figuratively. I nervously mentioned I needed a cake for the evening.. by 6pm, as I needed to be in Williamsburg by 7:15pm. Saw that they have rainbow cookie cake slices this weekend and one of my favorite desserts is a rainbow cookie, so I had to stop in! Grabbed a slice of the rainbow cookie cake along with a chocolate overload cake jar & a chocolate Nutella cake jar. My husband had the Nutella cake jar and liked it. He not only helped me figure out what to order but even hand-picked the flavors, including a special one just for my son. When I couldn't reach my son to coordinate delivery, Jermaine was calm, flexible, and gave me options without pressure. Zero Stress, all kindness... That kind of service is rare. I really wanted to see what the rave was about. Spoke with one of the owners . Very nice guy. This place is located in West Hempstead in a small shopping mall. If you are driving fast you can miss it. This is not a eat in bakery. It's for pick up only. Let start with the banana pudding cake. This cake was amazing it was very smooth and had the exact taste of banana pudding. Sweet potato cake - I was really excited about tasting this one. However, I was a bit disappointed. This cake wasn't moist like the other, and the frosting was too sweet, which actually was overpowering the taste of the sweet potato. I visited Sydney's Sweets over the weekend to get some cake slices and cupcakes. I ordered the red velvet cupcake and chocolate Oreo cupcake. I also ordered the Strawberry Crunch Cheesecake, Oreo cookies and cream cake, Chocolate cake and Sweet Potato Swirl cake slices. Everything was so delicious. The cakes were well prepared, flavorful and moist. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The store was pretty busy since everyone was coming in to pick up some sweets. The inside of the store was very nice since they had some recent upgrades. I'll have to return another time to take advantage of the cake bar. Outside of the I got 3 diff flavors but none were distinct from the others, just sweet. Lastly, I ordered these off UE and they want $11 per cake jar! For a jar that's not that big if we're being honest. I try to support local businesses hence why I won't give them 1 star. Sydney and Jermaine are geniuses. Culinary, confectionery and gastronomical geniuses. Last year I attended a YEE event hosted by them and we got a sampling of many of their cakes and pies. When I tasted Sydney's sweet potato pie, I was transcended to a different astral plane. This was seriously one of the best forkfuls I have ever put in my mouth and I vowed this needed to be on my Thanksgiving table. And that's exactly what I did. I called a week and a half before and placed an order for a pie. Sydney's requires pre-payment, and they take your card info the phone but are happy to accommodate if you come in person before hand to pay since they aren't really a retail bake. After placing my order on the phone, I confirmed with them when I would be dropping by to pay and it was easy peasy. Some might say... easy as pie. I picked up the pie the day before Thanksgiving and was greeted by Jermaine who was chatting with some other customers picking up their holiday delectable. The total vibe was so welcoming. Dessert is always the hardest part about a holiday. You always want to save some room but the entrees and apps get in the way. Well, that wasn't going to happen this time. I saved some room, did crunches in between and had two slices of the pie (along with some other desserts). I savored the damn thing, eating it slowly so that it could just stay forever in my mouth and heart. Sydney is a genius. A bonafide genius. That's all I can really say. And now, with a forlorn and heavy heart, I move into the space where the sweet potato pie one again becomes only a reality in my dreams as I wait out the next year for it to come around again. read more

I attended the Yelp Night at The Museum - A Food Art Show event in which the Nassau County Museum of Art was open to Yelp Elite members at night for a private viewing. Sydney's Sweets served cake samples as part of the event. Their red velvet cake was delicious... moist, flavorful, delicious cream cheese frosting. BUT... The coconut cake with coconut cream frosting..... Do yourself a favor and order yourself a cake or a dozen cupcakes of this. It was moist, excellent texture, flavor was perfect. I could have eaten a whole cake of it by myself. The head baker, Jermaine, was friendly and welcoming, taking time to speak with us about his business and offerings. The only sad thing about this is that I do not live anywhere near the bakery! But this cake was so good, I will likely make a special trip so that I can experience it again. read more

As a first time Mom, I definitely wanted something spectacular and over the top and when I stumbled upon Sydney's instagram months before, I knew she was the right person for the job! When I decided we needed cupcakes for a car parade thrown for my mom's retirement by her wonderful friends at school, I was so happy to see Yelp Long Island feature Sydney's Sweets. They are a black-owned bakery with an incredible repertoire of custom cakes, cupcakes, cake pops, the works! Working with them was a dream, communication was constant and so easy, and I can't believe how fast they were able to make my vision happen. I sent a couple of pictures and said it was for a retirement, but I had no idea the cupcakes would be just so cute! That was all them. The flavors we chose were Salted Caramel, Chocolate with Vanilla Buttercream, and Red Velvet with Cream Cheese Frosting. The Salted Caramel literally flew out of the container, people loved it so much. The Red Velvet is the best I've ever had with the most tender, flavorful cake and frosting that is the perfect balance of cream cheese and sweetness. Chocolate with Vanilla Frosting is my all-time favorite cake combo and their version is perfection (I might have eaten half a chocolate cupcake just while writing this but that is neither here nor there). I really had my heart set on surprising my daughter Sidney and her future wife Missy with a dessert table at their wedding welcome dinner, but I wasn't having much luck on finding a vendor in Conneticut. I really didn't even know where to start; as I live in California and was doing everything over the phone. Researching looks, desserts and vendors became somewhat of a job or I'd say passion. I just fell in love with dessert tables and could look through Pinterest for hours. Thankfully during one of my endless searches; I came across photos of some of the amazing tables Sydney Perry of Sydney's Sweets has created. Of course she was in West Hempstead New York and the event was going to be held two hours away in Connecticut. I figured she'd say it was too far to drive like the other dessert table vendors I'd found, but she didn't. I was especially grateful she was going to be making our dessert table, because Sydney is a Food Network Champion. She just won their Season 8 Spring Baking Championship that aired in March and it shows in every last detail and bite of her little masterpieces. She also worked with me and made changes to my concept more than once, twice, three times, but she was always patient with me. She knew just how important this dinner was to me and help bring that vision to life! She even made several off menu speciality items for me, because of course I wanted the theme colors of the evening to pop in the dessert colors. I'm sure she doesn't get a lot of requests for orangsicle mousse dessert shooters in just the right shade of pale peach, but she made them flawlessly. They weren't just beautiful little works of art, but some of the best desserts I've ever had. People just raved about them and the table itself. It was beautifully designed. I was shopping for custom cakes for a friend's baby shower when a friend of mine shared Sydney's yelp page. I liked the positive reviews so I emailed their info email to inquire about costs/pricing quotes. Out of the 5 bakeries I reached out to, Sydney was the first one to respond. Also, she was the second most affordable one I spoke to but still about $100 over what I was initially looking to spend. I was looking to create a small 2-tier cake that fed about 30-40 people with some additional deco elements to match the theme. I asked about cake tastings and Sydney informed me that their cupcakes are made with the same sponge and frosting as their cakes, so I was welcome to come by and try it. We drove out to Hempstead which is a 30-minute drive from Flushing/Murray Hill area without traffic. I tried the red velvet and the chocolate cupcake, both with Vanilla frosting. I was blown away by the buttercream, and the chocolate. To this day I still think about that chocolate vanilla cupcake I ate. I don't normally crave sweets and am not a known sweet tooth type of person, but I actually really crave this particular cupcake once I tried it... As a side note: for those with nut allergies, the vanilla sponge cupcakes are made with almond flour. Ultimately the mom-to-be chose a more affordable bakery that was only 10 minutes from her chosen venue. However, if I ever have an event of my own, I would like to choose Sydney. She was so polite, fast at responding, and her products were quality! Moist sponge, delicious buttercream. I even met her when I went to the shop, and she was so sweet. Looking for dessert we find Sydney's sweets a mile away from garden city...given the reviews we were confident in our discovery. They are a small, quaint shop with only a handful of cupcakes on display. The signs were pretty self explanatory and two flavors quickly became 8. We received 2 free cupcakes for using our check in offer but please make note to load your app before entering since they do not have wi-fi and securing an internet connection is difficult. Jermaine explained because of the old buildings their walls are hard to make a solid connection. Also before our app fully loaded, he quipped that we were using the same account. I could not believe what I heard. I was shocked and disappointed. He then said there is a minimum of 4 cupcake purchase required per free cupcake. If you read my reviews and/or know me, the minimum rule is too easy to satisfy. Anyway, took us a quick minute but we were able to get that sorted out by moving closer to the door for service. They were out of coffee today, so we ordered 2 bottles of water. They do not accept Amex and when using credit card, they charge a 4% fee so we decided to pay in cash. We were seated on these cute tables and served the cupcakes on paper plates. We chose the weekly special for our midday treat. Jermaine explained the flavor of the week changes and sometimes flavors are inspired by their custom cake orders. Typical sized cakes are ready I. a few days while the beautifully displayed party, and wedding cakes may take two weeks to a month to make. They also offer cake pops, cookies, push pops and many other dessert goods. The weekly flavor was maple syrup glazed pancakes. The cake was moist and dense, the frosting was just the perfect amount of sweet and the pancakes gave it a good texture. This cupcake made us wonder whether the 8 we earmarked to take home was enough. I haven't tried the other flavors yet, all survived the trip home except one had frosting melting to the side. All in all, I like to support local businesses. I would recommend visiting, definitely check them out when you are in the area! read more

All I can say is the cake jars and slices I've had were the bomb! I've tried the banana cake slice, strawberry crunch slice, sweet potato slice, very strawberry cake jar, birthday cake cake jar (name might be wrong), and other I can't recall lol but I was satisfied every time. I didn't enjoy my banana cake slice but that's on me for not eating it immediately ‍ The owners are also very friendly and helpful with explaining how things went and what they recommended my first time there. I ordered a cake for my best friend on short notice, to re-create her small wedding cake that she did not get to keep, I wanted her to have a good memory and save a piece (to freeze) as she had hoped for on her wedding day.... We are heading over to my cousin's house and my wife informs me she would like to bring dessert - she recommends cupcakes from Crumbs. Do a little Yelp search and what do I find right down the road from me but a cool cupcake boutique and studio called Sydney's Sweets! We arrive and it takes me a second to find it because it is set back from the road slightly to accommodate parking in front. Also Google Maps hasn't updated this stretch of road's street view since Sept 2012 (still showing the old business here - Vazquez Deli and Grocery). When we enter we find Sydney's husband and partner serving up cupcakes from a display case highlighting about a dozen of this weekends flavors. Actually the majority of them are mainstays that are made every weekend - Red Velvet, Chocolate, Vanilla and Carrot Cake, but the center of the display case includes this weekends special flavors - Caramel apple and a loaded Red Velvet that is topped with caramel and pecans are two that come to mind. We take to ordering eight, which quickly turn to a full dozen because they all look so good. While we are doing this Sydney's husband (sorry missed your name) is explaining how they have been here for 2 years, they do specialty cakes (They all look beautiful - it seems if your imagination can think it Sydney can make it!). BTW, there are tables and coffee served here so you can stop in for a little dessert fix. When we finally try some of these cupcakes we find they "taste even better than they look!" - moist, dense with flavor and quality, each bite better than the last - these cupcakes ROCK! You can keep your Baked by Melissa's, Crumbs, and Cake Boss chain sweets; as for me I plan to support what I think Long Island needs most - hard working individuals and small businesses with creative, well made items! read more

I came here yesterday like right before they closed and there wasn't much treats left but lucky for us we are able to taste 4 different cupcake flavors. Chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting-I'm not a fan of chocolate cake but this cupcake was really good. The cupcake tasted more like a brownie and it wasn't overwhelmingly chocolaty which I appreciated. Strawberry cupcake with vanilla buttercream frosting-Super super yummy, their cupcakes are just baked really well. Moist and rich and full of flavor. The vanilla buttercream frosting was creamy and fluffy-love! Red Velvet cupcake with special icing-Also another favorite of mine. I'm not crazy about red velvet like other people but I am crazy about this red velvet. Cupcake-moist and rich like all the others. The cream cheese icing tasted fresh and like it was actually made with cream cheese and the caramel drizzle with pecans on top was perfectttt! I wasn't able to try the last cupcake which was a vanilla cupcake with chocolate buttercream frosting but I'm sure it was just as yummy as all the rest. All in all, I had a very good visit. Sydney did an absolute amazing job with our engagement party cake. The crazy part is we had someone who was going to do our cake but then had a last minute family emergency so now my fiancé and I were in a rush to find someone who can do a cake almost a week out from our party. I stumbled upon her Yelp page and decided to give this a shot. We walked in and were greeted by Sydney herself. She allowed us to try her vanilla cupcake and I knew after trying and tasting the fresh vanilla bean she used that we found the person do our engagement cake. I was seeking out a bakery to custom design my sister's birthday cake and stumbled upon (intentionally while seeking out a Black Owned Business to support) found Sydney's Sweets. I surfed the IG page then reached out to them by contacting the shop. The customer service was the utmost and very friendly. I am not the greatest at selecting baked goods, although I do enjoy my favorite parts of sweets, I am not the extravagant side of it, that's why I leave it to the baker. Boy, did they take the cake (every pun intended)! The gentlemen on the phone suggested a pink drip cake when I told him I wanted a birthday cake for my sister with a Rose inspired theme. He freestyled and it came out just the way I imagined or even better. I was wowed! There were fresh white roses on the cake, with bottle of Rose imagery pouring out wine with a bubbly effect displayed in the cake and a golden happy birthday topper (images are attached). It was a 4 layer vanilla cake with icing in between and deliciously soft. I also ordered a dozen Rose infused cupcakes. My goodness were those delicious!!! They had a dropper filled with Rose wine and the cupcakes were vanilla with white frosting and pink designs some were topped with age #.
