I often order the fish entrees, they know how to season & cook it so it's just yummy. The menu is extensive with many Italian dishes that I'm told are equally tasty. Such a lovely home-style seafood restaurant in Erie! Good place to grab a big meal if you are visiting Erie. It had a large menu to choose from, both seafood and non seafood. Service is nice especially when the whole industry is understaffed after COVID. The fisherman's platter and the walleye special we ordered were nicely cooked and delicious. First time here and we should have turned around when we walked in and smelled the lurking odor of years of cheap cigars leaking out of the walls. The only reason I can imagine that this place is still in business is that the regulars don't know that better food exists. We ordered bacon jam Brussels sprouts as an appetizer for $13. We were served an unappetizing plate of once frozen, recently boiled sprouts with some jam and bacon on top. What year is it when people are still boiling Brussels sprouts? I ordered the broiled Atlantic cod which came with what appeared to be frozen vegetables and had to send it back. The fish had such a fishy smell when it came out the entire table could smell it. I gave it a try anyway and immediately regretted it, realizing it had turned. The server took it back and I ordered a well done burger. My husband ordered the veal which was dry and rubbery, my father ordered blackened chicken Alfredo that was dry and bland, and my daughter ordered meatloaf that she described as tightly packed sloppy joes. I was embarrassed that I brought my parents to this place, but we'd had high hopes based on the history and reviews. read more

We came to Syd's after our second day on a 5 day bicycle tour. We wanted to have a solid meal. Boy was it. The tossed salad was fresh and salad dressings are all home made and so delicious I wanted to dip my finger in the remaining dressing while waiting on my meatloaf I had the meatloaf Marsala which was rich and flavorful. After a day of sightseeing we asked the captain of our tour for a restaurant recommendation. He steered us to Syd's place. The staff asked if we had a reservation. No problem it's busy but you can sit outside. That was fine with us. The hostess sitting us had a very cranky bad attitude. She said she had no time to be nice as some people expected to be waited on who didn't have reservations. It was rude and inappropriate. I shrugged it off. Our waitress was courteous and did her best. It took a very long time to get our food. It was delicious and portions were plentiful. Not sure I would rush back there in the future. read more

Ok I have to say this place surprised me. I thought when we walked in it was going to be disgusting. As soon as you walk in, the place is very old and reeks of mold and stagnant water. But dispite all that we sat out side and ordered anyway. I was soooo surprised. The food was fresh and very tasty. We have been going to Syd's place for years. It is our go to place when we go to Erie on weekends. Food is excellent and the service is great. Although this past weekend we decide to use our Visa gift card we receive as a gift from our children. When we presented to our server, she advised they do not accept these as their system does not support them. We were very disappointed as we were not prepared to use our own credit card. We will continue to support Syd's but wish they would update their system as these gift cards are very much way of life. read more

Highly recommend this place for dinner. We went on a Saturday afternoon around 4 with a group of 8. Staff were very friendly and very helpful. We had about 4 or 5 different meals and they were all very good. I had the Chicken Commodore and it was excellent. Parking was easy. I took my disabled 90 yo mom and another elderly aunt out to dinner. Neither of them are able to "get out much" so this was a girls night out. My mom suggested Syd's since she heard they had the best perch in town. I was skeptical since Syd's has been around forever. Some of the other (older) reviews mentioned the old, dirty dank smelling decor. BUT let me tell you, we're we're so pleased we went. Stephanie, our server, was kind, helpful, and took excellent care of us. The food was hot, delicious, and exceeded expectations. The older women proudly left with well stocked doggie bags! Mom was also happy that our booth was sturdy and had a ledge for her to use to stand (she needs to pull herself up). Anyway, don't overlook Syd's as a place to grab a meal. This quaint little slice of America, serves up the best seafood in town. The atmosphere is delightful and calming, especially the young lady Heather at the bar. We started with a tasty appetizer of fried cauliflower with a creamy buffalo dipping sauce, which was very great. The pan seared walleye was very delicious with it's citrus beurre Blanc. My wife had the seafood Florentine with the shrimp and scallops pan seared and in a delicious sauce which had tomatoes and spinach. Wanted to try something more "local" than an Applebee's or thousands of other chain restaurants in Erie. Kids meals were standard - no complaints from them. Mussels appetizer was very good. Now it gets a little downhill from here. Chicken salad was good sized, served on Iceberg lettuce, and wife disappointed in meal. I had fried fisherman platter- haddock, shrimp and scallops. Was decent, batter and oil were not overdone and it came with a nice cup of very hearty clam chowder( very good). Our server was very nice... just slow. Casual dress is definitely ok here. I'd also say that it looks like an older crowd. There is a patio out back but was starting to rain so we stayed inside. I was told that they do a nice job w perch but I did not try any. Honestly one of the best restaurants in Erie. I have to rank pineapple eddies in front of Syd; but Syd is pretty good. I really enjoy the seafood and the burgers. Nice place. Needs more vegetarian/vegan options. There was not one vegetarian option in the specials. There was a veggie stir fry on the menu, which was very good for my husband. I had just had stir fry the night before, so I ended up getting a side salad and fries. No veggie burger. Would be easy to add one to the menu or have it available on request. read more
